REVIEW: iBall Groovy - Bluetooth Neckphone With Mic

I purchased the iBall Groovy (Bluetooth Neckphone With Mic) from Flipkart yesterday. I am pretty impressed by the service of Flipkart. Ordered it on Monday and got it on Tuesday! Used the "Cash on Delivery" option to pay.

Advantages:

• Priced lowest in its category.

• As its an in-ear headset, no loss of sound.

• Connects to bluetooth devices easily.

Disadvantages:

• The back of the Neckphone is fixed. Can't adjust it to your liking.

• Only USB charging is available.

The package i got from Flipkart is this:

Inside i found the Neckphone with its original packing.

The package includes:

• The Bluetooth Neckphone.

• USB Charger.

• 2 sets of extra ear buds. One big and one small. The medium type is fitted in the Neckphone itself.

• User Manual.

• iBall Service Centre List.

Design and build quality:

Design is good. It sits on the ear quite nicely. Weight of the headset will not bother you. But i experienced a slight pain behind the ear where it touches. It maybe because i'm not used to a headset like this.

Build quality is not that good. Looks cheap. Some of the markings on the controls have already got erased! Maybe we have to compromise something because the headset is a low cost one.

All the controls, indicators, charging port, mic are situated in the right side. Controls available are two switches. First one allows us to control the play back. Pushing down will jump to next track and up to the previous track. Pressing the button will Play/Pause the present track.

The second button helps in various functions such as switch on/off, answer/end/reject call, voice dial/ redial last number. Pushing the button up/down will increase/decrease the volume.

An LED indicator is also there.

The charging port and the mic are situated at the bottom. Charging port is covered by rubber flap. Mic is on the right of the charging port as shown.

Working

The Neckphone got fully charged in less than 2 hours and got connected to all the devices i tested easily (includes 2 laptops, 4 mobile phones from Nokia & Samsung). All the keys responded without any problem when paired with each device. There is a slight delay in every action though.

Performance

The performance and voice clarity are at par. No surrounding noise got in when played at high volume. The performance while playing song is not as good as a Sony headset but much better than Nokia's original one.

The Mic also performed well in quiet conditions. Again the performance is at par in noisy conditions.

Battery backup is very good. Got around 6 to 7 hours working time.

Final Words

It is the lowest priced gadget in its class. For Rs. 1,700/- you get Bluetooth stereo headset with mic. Performs well though not the best.

If you are willing to pay around Rs. 1,500/- more then there is a very good alternative. Nokia BH-505.

Motorola Rokr S9-HD is also there for around Rs. 4,000/-

So its up to you whether to go for the Groovy or go for an alternative which are priced higher.

Install Any Android App in BlueStacks (Android App Player for PC)

BlueStacks App Player lets you run your Android apps fast and full screen on Windows PCs and tablets. You can read about it more and download it from here: Run Android Apps In PC!

The problem with BlueStacks is that it only allows you to install apps available in its own App Channel.

There is a way around to install other apps also if you got the .apk file for that!

I assume you got the .apk file for the app you wish to install in BlueStacks. You can get it by simply searching in Google itself..! :-)

Step 1: Locate the .apk file on your PC. Right-click it and select "Open With..."

Step 2: Click "Browse" and go to the location where you installed BlueStacks. If you haven't changed the location during the installation of BlueStacks, you can find it at "C:\Program Files\BlueStacks" for 32-bit OS and "C:\Program Files (x86)\BlueStacks" in 64-bit OS.

Step 3: Select "HD-ApkHandler.exe", click "Open" and then click "OK"
Step 4: The .apk file will be installed to BlueStacks.

You can go and run the app you installed in BlueStacks now..!

Restore Files From Recycle Bin Through Command Prompt

Recycle bin is the place where the files go when you delete it in Windows. If you accidentally delete a file, you can recover it by going to the Recycle Bin and simply clicking Restore. What if you delete a system file and your system stops booting?! Well, one of my friend was in that situation! Thats why i'm writing this blog post. :-)

You can access Recycle Bin through MS-DOS also! The recycled files are stored in directory called "RECYCLER" in Window XP and "$Recycle.Bin" in Windows 7.

Step 1: To get into MS-DOS while booting, press F8. You'll see an option called "Safe Mode with Command Prompt". Select it and press enter.
Step 2: You'll be asked to select the Operating system to start. Select your OS and press enter.
Step 3: Next, you'll see the screen where you select your user. Select your user name.
Step 4: Now, in the MS-DOS window like below, the directory will be C:\Users\(Your User Name)\ in Windows 7 and C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name)\ in Windows XP

Step 5: Type cd../.. and press enter.
Step 6: Type cd $Recycle.Bin in Win7 or cd RECYCLER in WinXP and press enter.
Step 7: Type cd and press tab. You'll see that the line is filled with a directory name like this "S-1-5-21-564594560-2944949298-4040108220-1000". Press enter.
Step 8: Type dir/a to see all the files including hidden files in that directory. The file you want to recover will also be there. But the name of the file may be changed.
Step 9: Here I deleted a system file named "BOOTSECT.BAK". Its been renamed as "$I1R8ZP3.BAK"

Step 10: Type copy (The Name of the File) (The location)
For eg., type copy $I1R8ZP3.BAK C:\
Step 11: Type cd../.. to go to the root directory.
Step 12: Type dir and enter. You'll see the file you copied from the Recycle Bin directory there.

Step 13: Type ren (The Name of the File) (The Name You Want)
For eg., type ren $I1R8ZP3.BAK BOOTSECT.BAK
Step 14: Thats it! The file is restored. Restart your computer and enjoy the Graphic UI of Windows again! :P

LongTweetSplitter is a website which will help you post longer tweets. It splits your long tweets to several parts and posts them as separate tweets!

Sign in with your Twitter and authorize the app first. Then type your long tweet in the box 1. Add hashtags. Click "Split Tweet".

You can see your tweets being split into several parts in box 2. Now click "Send Tweets to Twitter" in box 3.

Other tools are also available like manually split tweet, split long direct messages and send it.

If you want post a long tweet as one tweet itself, click the drop down menu next to "Publish As" in the box 2 and select "Click Single Tweet with Link". This will make your long tweet into a single small link and you can post that to your timeline.

Desktop Client For Google+

Google+ (Google Plus or G+) is the social networking site by Google. It has got a good web interface which is very user friendly in using. A German company Abelssoft has released a free desktop client. It is called GClient.

Basically it shows the Mobile version of G+ in your desktop and it operates from the notification area on the taskbar. When clicked on the icon it'll display a handy window showing your latest Google+ activities. This window allows you to post messages and to follow the activity of your circles.

Create Nokia Anna Type Icon!

Nokia's new version of Symbian OS, Anna introduced new refreshing icon set. You can create that type icon yourselves now! Create Anna type avatars also using Nokia Icon Builder website.

This may be old for most of the people but not for everyone!

Step 1: Go to the website of Nokia Icon Builder

Step 2: Upload the image which you want to make in Anna style.

Step 3: Re-size and Rotate your image and place as you want. You can also use the options given. After completing hit Save Icon. The image will be saved as .png file!

Download Nokia Store Contents To PC!

As you may already know, Nokia Store (Previously known as Ovi Store) is the application store for Nokia phones. There's a Nokia Store app in every S40, S60, Anna, Belle,... powered mobiles of Nokia. You can download everything to your phone through that store app itself. But sometimes it gets difficult because of the problem with mobile network we use. So what if you can download the contents to your PC? Well, there is a way for that!

Things needed for that trick are;

1. Mozilla Firefox (This trick works with Firefox only.)

2. An Add-on called "Use Agent Switcher" for Firefox.

3. A Nokia Account (It is needed to download content from Nokia Store.)

Step 1: Go to Device Specification page of Nokia Developer website.

Step 2: Select your device.

In my case its N97.

Step 3: Go to "Browser, Flash and Web Technologies" and copy the things that's given as "Example User Agent Header"

Step 4: Go to Add-on section in Firefox and open the options dialog box of "Use Agent Switcher" Add-on.

Step 4: Click New>New User Agent...

Step 5: Give your mobile's name or whatever you want as description and give the thing you copied from the "Device Specification" page in "User Agent" text box. Press OK.

Step 6: Go to Firefox's Menu>Tools>Default User Agent and select your device.

Step 7: Now Go to http://store.ovi.mobi/, login using your nokia account.

Download whatever you want to your PC! Enjoy! :)

Web Browser War!

In the previous post, I shared the features of the five most popular web browsers and their download links. Now lets have a look on some of their market statistics.

According to w3schools.com, market share of web browsers is as follows:

You can see that Google Chrome hasn't entered into the market. Major share is enjoyed by Internet Explorer.

A new player Google Chrome has entered into the market. Mozilla Firefox was gaining on Internet explorer. IE lost about 9% to Firefox and others. But still they are leading.

Now in 2010, from the current statistics, we can see that Firefox hasn't lost much but hasn't gained also. On the other hand, Google Chrome keeps on gaining on Internet Explorer.

So it is clear that the Microsoft guys will have to come up with some miracle to regain their position.

And by "share", i mean their "market presence". It has nothing to do with share market. :D

Opera 11 Beta Released With "Tab Stacking"

The Indian mobile communication industry is the world's fastest growing telecommunications industry. The number of Mobile subscribers in the country was approximately 5 million in 2001 which has increased by more than 100% to 670.60 Million in August 2010! long with state owned MTNL & BSNL, private operators like Bharti Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, Reliance Communications, Aircel, Docomo have strong subscriber base in India. India's biggest Mobile Service Proveder, Airtel today launched their new logo along with a new tone called "Signature". It is composed by A R Rahman. They are going to roll out their 3G services in India at the end of 2010.
