Und ausserdem trifft mich die ganze Telekom Drossel sowieso nicht da ich beim Kölner Qualitätsunternehmen QSC bin die - man höre und staune - sowas ähnliches schon vor Jahren eingeführt haben.

In a recent survey,
German magazine €uro asked some experts for their ranking of the 25 best
smartphones and beside Erik Friemuth, director of Vodafone Germany, Michael
Schuld, director at T-Mobile Germany and Ossi Urchs, a long-time multimedia
expert, I was also honored to be part of the jury.
While I cannot republish here the results (as you can imagine) I can tell you
that one Windows Mobile smartphone made it under the top 5 and three more made

the::unwired Videoviews - now with funky background music

During the past months, I've produced a good amount of
videoviews for
the::unwired. And while I wasn't a big fan of videos in the beginning, I've
completely changed my mind because videos are definitely a great addition to
photos, screenshots and texts and it adds some additional benefits for the
readers, especially
if used on exhibitions and congresses.
So while I recorded the first videos with the photo camera of my girlfriend,
because my Nikon SLR isn't able to record videos,
I've upgraded late last year to a dedicated video camera as well as changed the
video software. Nevertheless, most videos had the same problem - they were a kind
of 1900's silent movies which is somewhat boring to watch. However, adding some
music to videos is somewhat tricky because the rights management.
Thankfully, the nice guys of
sonar.brandmusic
threw in some tracks they have the rights on (which makes sense since their core
business is sound branding and music marketing) and therefore, from now
the::unwired videoviews will have some funky background music as well:

Quite cool - for registered Beta tester, Microsoft is providing the new
Windows Vista SP1 RC via Windows Update. All you have to do is downloading a
small file which updates Windows Update that it finds the Service Pac 1 RC on
the Windows Update server:

Microsoft releases Windows Vista Service Pack 1 RC1

I've
already tried some previous Betas of Microsoft's upcoming Service Pack 1 for
Windows Vista on several PCs and while it (still) works fine on my Media Center,
it had some trouble on my Notebook.
If you haven't heard about it so far, Windows Vista SP1 is an update to today's
Windows Vista that, along with improvements delivered to users via other
channels, addresses feedback from Microsoft customers. In addition to previously
released updates, SP1 will contain changes focused on addressing specific
reliability, performance and compatibility issues, supporting new types of
hardware and adding support for several emerging standards. SP1 also continues
to improve upon the IT administration experience. Unlike Windows XP's SP2,
Windows Vista's SP1 is not intended to be a vehicle for releasing new features;
however some existing components do gain slightly enhanced functionality in SP1.

While SP1 contains valuable updates to Windows, organizations don't need to
wait to deploy and can experience the improved security, management and
deployment benefits of Windows Vista today.

Currently, Microsoft is targeting a RTM release in Q1-08, depending on
customer feedback and the quality of the beta. The SP1 RC was released to the
15k Beta Testers on Microsoft Connect and on Thursday, December 6, the RC was
made available via MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Furthermore, Microsoft plans to
release the SP1 RC bits to the public on TechNet anytime next week.
SP1 is going to be released in two waves. The initial release of SP1 will
include 5 languages (English, French, Spanish, German, and Japanese). The second
release containing all 36 basic languages will occur afterwards.

Packing for Amsterdam - attending Möbius 2007

You might have heard about it already but in case you haven't: The annual
Möbius conference is just around the corner, this year happening in Amsterdam,
Netherlands and I'm happy I got an invitation for this year's Möbius conference.
So while I will leave tomorrow morning, it's time now to leave the PC and pack
my bag since I will take a couple of Windows Mobile smartphones with me, as well
as my Apple AirPort Express, my Nikon D80 and some other stuff. In the past,
without all the gadgets, traveling was easier. All you need was you Passport,
your Credit Card and your toothbrush. Now we are travelling with a whole bag of
gadgets.

Anyway, if you haven't heard about Möbius, it's an invitation-only
community (with roughly 100+ members now) of the world's most influential
technology pundits and online writers. Hosted by Microsoft, the yearly once or
twice happening Möbius conference brings together around 25 Möbians of this
group of 100+ which normally interact behind the scenes with companies big and
small to shape the direction of devices, services, pricing, design and the
culture of consumer technology.
As with every Möbius event, Microsoft will host a variety of speakers, from
across the industry, who will talk about general mobility issues, industrial
design, new applications and of course provide sneak peeks into future products.
However the best part of Möbius is having a very open and honest dialogue and
even healthy debate about the industry, technologies and initiatives that
are shaping the future of mobility.

Oh, two! or how Lucky Strike adopted O2 :-)

Funny, looks like someone at Lucky Strike's marketing department is an O2
customer and loves O2 that much that he or she adopted O2's mobile phone
campaign for Lucky Strike's cigarette campaign. At least that's what I've
spotted this morning on a street in Munich (Munich = German O2 headquarter):

Two Lucky Strike packages, a blue background and even bubbles (but not O2's
new "hero bubble"); this cigarette ad looks pretty similar to my O2 Xda Windows
Mobile Today screens. ;-)

Installing Windows Vista Service Pack 1 on Vista Ultimate

Okay, after I've downloaded the wrong file yesterday (which I've figured out
after the 16 hours download), I finally downloaded the right one (read just the
Service Pack 1, not Windows Vista including the Service Pack 1) and I've started
the installation now:

I've also fired up my stop watch to see if the installation really takes 30
minutes only (which would be fast for a 1.x GB Service Pack) or if it takes
longer anyway.

UPDATE: Okay, the installation of the files took something around 25
minutes only. Now the PC rebooted and Widows is configuring the updates (as it
said).

Just in time while I was reading this update, the PC rebooted again. We will see what's coming next...

UPDATE: Okay, after roughly 25 minutes of installation and another 30
minutes of configuration the PC came up again is is ready to use now:

Anyway, as soon as it's done I will put it on my test PC (to first check how
smooth the installation and performance is going) and maybe testing it on my
