Summer is almost here and that means that frizzy hair is coming too.  But never fear, you don’t have to lose the battle with humidity.  Frizzy hair can now be managed with various salon smoothing treatments.  Smoothing treatments are much better than the harsh straightening treatments of a few years ago that broke down your hair’s natural bonds. Today’s smoothing treatments actually work by building the hair up which makes your hair healthier, shinier and more manageable. Three of today’s most popular smoothing treatments are the Brazilian Blowout, Keratin Treatment and Keratin Express.

The Brazilian Blowout starts at about $350 depending on length and volume and is an affordable and versatile smoothing treatment that works great with all kinds of hair.  One huge benefit of the Brazilian Blowout is that you can still wear your hair curly if so desired.  Brazilian Blowouts normally take about 2 hours to apply and should last about twelve weeks when you use their required shampoo and conditioner.  As with all smoothing treatments, make sure your stylist is certified to perform the requested service.

Keratin Treatments start around $425 and take about an hour and a half to perform.  Like the Brazilian Blowout, Keratin Treatments last about 12 weeks and require the use of the manufacturers shampoo and conditioner.  One distinct advantage of the Keratin Treatment is that you can still get same day color, however, there is a 72 hour down period following the service during which you can not wash your hair, swim or wear a pony tail.  This service works best on medium to thick hair.

Lastly, the Keratin Express smoothing treatment starts at about $125 and takes a little more than an hour to apply depending on your length and volume.  Of the three smoothing services, the express has the shortest duration as it lasts only about six weeks.  Unlike the standard Keratin service, the express only has a 12 hour downtime during which you need to avoid swimming, hair washing and pony tails. This service is best for fine to medium hair and if you want to keep some volume.  The express is also great for first time smoothing treatment clients who want to take a test drive before spending more time and money.

On October 21, 2017 all five living former presidents reunited at the “Deep From the Heart: The One America Appeal” event that was held at Reed Arena in College Station.  The event had numerous celebrity performers including the Gatlin Brothers, Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen.  One hundred percent of the ticket sales benefited people devastated from hurricanes in Texas, Florida, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Lady Gaga also made a surprise appearance at the event and Christopher Michael Stribling from The Upper Hand Hair Salon: River Oaks was called to make sure her hair looked great.  When asked of working with Gaga, Stribling said “Gaga amazes me with how humble and normal she is.  It’s always such an honor to be able to share my love for beauty.  I’m just lucky I get the opportunity to share it with really cool people.”

Gaga seemed to enjoy the event as well.  She tweeted “Nothing more beautiful than everyone putting their differences aside to help humanity in the face of catastrophe.”

We couldn’t agree more.
