Different from the usual boring person talking about photography, PhotoNetCast is published by four photographers that give it a conversational mood while still delivering useful content. You can see (hear) that this is not a professionally produced podcast (the sound production is not the best) but it’s still better than many out there.

If you’re not into podcasts, what are you waiting for? Grab your mp3 player, load it with podcasts, and make your commutes more enjoyable and educative.

It seems that a car dealer in Missouri is giving a strange gift when you buy a new car: a brand new Kel-Tec .380 weapon

There are stupid things, and then the real real stupid.

Probably I’m going to offend some of you gun fanatics out there so, if you’re on that list, you might consider skipping this post.

It seems that a car dealer in Missouri is giving a strange gift when you buy a new car: a brand new Kel-Tec .380 weapon. According to the dealership owner "a nice little handgun that fits in your pocket".

But this doesn’t surprise me that much. Everyday you see absurd giveaways, or bonus, or whatever made to entice buyers. Nothing new here. What does surprise me is that people out there still find that getting gun has bonus is enough to convince them to go for a particular car dealership. I thought the US had evolved a bit more. But again, the words of the owner sum up pretty much the kind of people he’s targeting: "We’re just damn glad to live in a free country where you can have a gun if you want to."

Enough said…

In Andalusia, south of Spain, there is a paradise for climbers, hikers and mountain bikers: El Chorro.

One of the most famous things about El Chorro is the 700m high Desfiladero de los Gaitanes with it’s King’s little path.

Although officially closed in 2000 after a tourist died crossing it, some still risk it.

Here is a little video of one of the crossings.

Would you do it?

Am I the only one who broke a USB flash drive just because it’s sticking out of the port and accidentally was hit by something? Probably not.

USBee comes to the rescue. USBee is a USB (duh) flash drive that can be twisted in any direction thanks to a flexible neck. All the circuitry is located on the back part and the wires are protected by a flexible rubber casing.

Besides being able to survive accidental hits, unlike the rigid counterparts, due to its flexibility, it can be used to easily reach that USB port that seems always out of the way or it’s partially blocked by something in front of it.

The idea is great, but there are no mentions to what sizes (in Gb) will it be available. And at the cheap prices USB drives go for these days, unless the manufacturers can make it price competitive it might find a hard time penetrating the market. And on this, not even the flexibility will help

This time the concept is the similar.

What if it would be possible to harness the energy produced by crowds going through a revolving door?

Fluxxlab came up with just a concept.

Even if the energy produced is not that much, anything is a good help.

Can we harness the kinetic energy produced by thousands of walking people?

Two graduate students at MIT (School of Architecture and Planning) idealized a project capable of harnessing the "power of the masses". Literally, what they developed is a way to capture the kinetic energy generated by the movement of crowds.

If you think about it, it makes sense. While the energy of one person walking might not amount to much, if you think usually crowded spaces like train stations or shopping malls where thousands of people walk around everyday, the energy harvested could be significant.

"Our intention was to think of it not as a high-tech mat that would be laid down somewhere, but to really integrate it into a new sort of building system"

The question is, will it ever be tested by an interested company to see how productive and reliable such a system can be? Maybe not in the near future.

Tired of having to carry a flashlight with you every time you go for a jog at night? Those days may be counted.

Feijun Chen and Bin Zhao designed a new concept of shoe that converts kinetic energy (from walking or running) into electrical energy. This energy is then stored in a battery and used to power a small headlight in the front of the shoe, capable of illuminating up to 1,5 meters.

The shoes are waterproof (ideal for when it rains or snows) and shock absorbing, protecting your joints from the hard shocks while jogging.

And if it sounds weird using shoes with a headlight turned on during daytime, well… it is. But a switch on the back of the shoe will allow you to turn the light off, while still recharging the battery.

Will this become mainstream with joggers?
