Jamila and Michael: A Yellow And Grey Wedding At Loews Lake Las Vegas

Jamila and Michael were married in October 2011 at the beautiful Loews Hotel in Lake Las Vegas. After spending some time with the bride and groom, I knew this was going to be a fun wedding! Their colors popped against the blue sky and they had a great view of the lake from their ceremony and reception at Lotus Court. Their guests dined on a delicious Lobster Bake and did the Wobble and Dougie under the stars! Thank you to Stesha with The Black Chicken for sharing these photos with us!

Katie and Luke: A Summer Wedding In La Jolla California

It would take too many blog posts to describe how special this bride and groom are. We were honored to have been able to coordinate this beautiful wedding and it was nice to leave Las Vegas for a few days in July! Katie and Luke were married at Estancia Hotel and Spa. Katie is extremely creative and with the help of family, they made all of the decor for their big day. Their vintage travel themed wedding fit them perfectly as traveling is one of their favorite hobbies. There are too many good photos to keep on writing so here we go!

The coins came from different countries Katie and Luke had visited while traveling Europe together

Their first look was done on the beach!

Katie, along with her family, made the groomsmen boutonnieres.

They used different countries as table names. Passports were used as escort cards.

Katie’s father Tip created this wooden structure for their chalkboard frames to be placed on.

Instead of a champagne toast, the bride and groom wanted to include a touch of Ireland (where they lived while Katie did her student teaching) by having a Guinness Beer toast.

One of their songs “Galway Girl” played as guests clapped and cheered.

Guests got to take their own photos in Katie and Luke’s fun self made photo booth. The props sat in a vintage dresser with a chalk board sign.

The night ended with a packed dance floor and guests participating in Katie and Luke’s signature dance called “Let It Go”.

I know Katie and Luke will have many memories together and many more place to travel! Thank you for letting us experience a gorgeous California wedding!

Ombre Weddings

I’ve been in love with ombre since I first laid eyes on Gwen Stefani’s pink silk faille John Galliano wedding dress almost 10 years ago. Back then, I had no clue this had a name! The word ombre comes from fashion and means a graduated variation in color. Basically, a color fades from a light shade to a darker shade gradually or from a dark shade to a light shade of the same color family.

Within the last year or so, we’re seeing this more and more in weddings and events. I love some of the cool ways ombre is being incorporated from wedding cakes to nails to wedding invitations and of course to floral!

Here are some beautiful examples of ombre in weddings.

From pale pink to fuchsia: sweet peas, hyacinths, and nerines culminates in a deluge of fuchsia peonies, ruby fringe tulips, and raspberry cyclamens.

A Wedding Showcase by Celebrity Wedding Planner Colin Cowie

Last night, we attended a wedding showcase at the Keep Memory Alive Event Center. The wedding showcase was hosted by celebrity wedding planner and lifestyle guru Colin Cowie. We enjoyed some food pairings with sparkling wines and Champagnes and learned of creative ways to create experiences for wedding guests. Oh, and we got to see Colin Cowie saber a bottle of Champagne. Pretty cool!

Wedding Word Wednesday: First Look

In 2010, I wrote about the “First Look” and why couples should consider doing a first look before their wedding ceremony. Photographers call this a number of things including, “First Sight”, “Reveal” or even “First Glance”. Basically, your photographer will stage the first time you see each other for the very first time. Instead of this taking place at the wedding ceremony, it is set up ahead of time before formal portraits are taken. There are many reasons for this. Photographers love this because it allows for more photography time. My favorite reason, besides plenty of time for photos, is that the couple will get to spend some quality time together before the ceremony. If you’ve ever been married, you realize that ALL eyes are on you when you walk down the aisle. It’s a beautiful moment and yet it isn’t so private and is extremely nerve wracking for shyer types. After the ceremony is over, you’re whisked away for photos and then the reception starts. The rest of the night is spent greeting and thanking guests.

With a First Look, you’re able to get rid of some of the jitters as well as spend a few moments alone together. Also, so many couples find that this is so much less stressful!

Wedding Related Items on Sales Sites

I am obsessed with these private shopping sites such as Rue La La, HauteLook, Fab, The Foundary, and Gilt. In the past month, I have purchased some awesome furniture from these sites and saved a bit of money! Once in a while, it’s great to see wedding related items on these sites too. Yesterday on Rue La La, I browsed through wedding dresses from designers such as Jenny Yoo and Sue Wong and shower and wedding gifts from Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, and Kate Spade. Cool stuff and great savings! Check it out for yourself!

2012 USPS Postage Rates

Thanks to two local invitation companies 1st Impressions Invitations and Paper and Home, I’ve been made aware of the postage increase going into effect January 22nd. Here’s a handy little chart for additional information. And, as always, it’s a good idea to get your invitation weighed so that you’ll be sure to have the correct postage on your invitations when they go out.
