I found several of these handmade, homemade signs with Scripture on them.

I like them all, a

nd this one speaks to my heart to have a time of prayer and reading my Bible every day, a

and usually as early in the day as possible.

Mornings can be full of color or have none at all.

Here, on a late winter morning,

the colors in the morning sky over downtown Seattle are pastel hues.

Looking north along Piers 20 and 18 on the left and Piers 28 and 30 on the right

give a glimpse of part of the working waterfront in Seattle.

I worked many years at Piers 20 and 18 on Harbor Island, handling import and export goods of all kinds.

I never tired of looking up and seeing a 800 foot ship glide silently into berth.

Brightly lit neon shines out into the early morning light, beckoning hungry patrons to come in.

Here,

very early one morning late last fall,

I found myself driving through the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle

and saw the new neon sign for the Square Knot Diner had been installed

on the red brick facade of a more than century old building along Airport Way South.

My husband and I ate a wonderful meal at the Square Knot Diner about a week after they opened their doors early last fall.

Serving classic diner food at counter stools or booths, it is a cheery place with a black and white tiled floor

Those of you who have been visiting here often or for very long,

know of my penchant for photographing neon signs.

I do like this one, although new, it has a

nice retro feel.

Sorry, I’m sure many have already come by, that

Self-portraits, can be good, bad or ugly.

About a year ago,

my daughter and I took a trip to the main library in downtown Seattle.

We toured the whole facility,

looking here and there, finding ourselves on the fourth floor

where there are conference rooms and the whole floor, walls and ceiling are painted this brilliant cherry red.

My selfie was caught by photographing my reflection on a wall.

Today is ‘Random 5 Friday‘ over at my friend Nancy’s place, ‘A Rural Journal.’

Here’s my five random facts about myself:

1. My favorite outdoor temperature is 60, not too hot, not too cold.
2. I enjoy trout fishing with my husband, but we don’t fish as often as we’d like.
3. I’m a diehard ‘Duck Dynasty’ fan.
4. I really like ‘Pork Fried Rice’ and ‘Teriyaki.’
5. Driver’s who don’t follow the ‘Rules of the Road’ really tick me off… oh can I include bicyclists in that too?

Brisk wind and bright blue water make Puget Sound such a beautiful place to live or visit.

:  :  :

Here in the tiny community of Lakebay

on Key Peninsula is a peaceful, rural place to view the stunning views of Puget Sound.

Established in 1871, Lakebay has been a community eight years longer than Washington has been a state.

Our view here of two boats anchored together,

a commercial vessel and a sailboat behind are nestled safely behind a spit

in the mouth of Lakebay Bay.

I love the cerulean blue waters of the bay,

contrasted by the deeper ultramarine blues of Carr Inlet on Puget Sound.

Taking a picnic lunch,  I love my day trips to Lakebay.

While not many miles from the very urban cities of Seattle and Tacoma,

Lakebay is very rural, quiet and peaceful.

I’ve taken you for numerous visits to one of my favorite places in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Fishermens Terminal.

No matter the weather,

I enjoy the vessels, colors, smells, sounds and people you see

while walking the docks between the commercial fishing vessels berthed there.

Unfortunately,

I don’t remember the name of the vessel that I’ve caught part of today.

Usually I have a really good memory for these things, but this one escapes me.

The bright primary colors of the hull make the fluorescent orange of the buoy really pop.

Mining, coal mining to be more specific has been the economic history for the small eastern Washington town of Roslyn.

:  :  :

Coal deposits were found in the Roslyn area in 1883

and mining begun in 1886 to support the railroads crossing the Cascade Mountain through Stampede Pass.

The last coal mine closed in 1963,

but more than 80% of the coal deposits remain untouched awaiting future extraction.

Here, on the back of the Brick Tavern,

is this well done historical mural about coal mining.

The small town of 893 residents was the actual setting for the wildly popular TV show, ‘Northern Exposure.’

The Roslyn Cafe, and Brick Tavern are still attracting tourists almost twenty years later.

It was one of my favorite shows of all time.

I’m still trying to get back on my feet,

the swelling has gone down slightly in my left leg, thankfully,

and the eye doctor says my left eye is just fine, thankful for that too!
