All Vintage/Classic Car, Hotrod, Tractor, Implement, Stationary engine car clubs and owners are hereby cordially invited to display their vehicles and machines, free of charge. New car and motor cycle dealers are all welcome to display their latest models.

VVCC Participation in SAVVA Vintage and Veteran Tour Bethlehem - 21 - 24 September 2019

The VVCC proudly had 8 participants in the above-mentioned tour, namely H. Heyns, K. Botha, P. Mouton, K. Lombaard, A.Duvenage, C. Lourens, D. Lemmon-Warde and P. de Wet. The group departed on the morning of the 20th September with cars loaded on to trailers, with the destination being Lavender Hill Hotel, just outside Bethlehem. The trip there was trouble free.
Saturday morning, after a hearty breakfast, the entire group assembled for a group photograph, thereafter, the group departed to the Maluti Motor Show Grounds. This show is an annual event and our cars were displayed with positive reception from the public. We then departed around 13h30 for our trip to Clarens, with the overall round trip being 68,4km. Again, the trip was trouble free. Saturday also included a meet-up with the participants from various clubs countrywide. The tour had a total of 22 participants, with vehicles ranging from 1911 models to 1930.

Sunday's tour included visits to Clarens, Golden Gate and Kestel, with a round trip of 233km. Various mechanical problems were experienced on route. The highlight of the day was an excellent lunch stop at Kiara Lodge. A challenging point of this leg of the tour included negotiating a steep incline and decent in the Golden Gate area.
Monday's tour was only 186km for the day. Windy and hot conditions were experienced during the day. We had a stop-over at Lindley Hotel for lunch, followed by a visit to the local museum and mill. This visit proved very inciteful and enjoyable. However, certain cars were plagued by mechanical problems.

Tuesday's journey was from Bethlehem to Sandstone Estates with a stop-over at IONIA Cherry Farm Stall. The farm offered a tasting of the various cherry liquers. However, the highlight of the trip was the visit to the Sandstone Estate, which housed a vast collection of steam driven tractors, trains, coaches, military vehicles and agricultural tractors. Again, we were treated to a very hearty lunch. Following that we returned to Lavender Hill.

Our hosts, The Model T Ford Club, hosted a gala evening on the Tuesday evening where a lucky draw took place and prizes were handed out for various categories. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance. The Model T Ford Club must be complimented for their well-organised tour of 2019. The facilities of Lavender Hill Country Estate also deserve praise. Their accommodation and catering were of a very high standard and can be highly recommended by our club.

The Vryheid Vintage Car Club is once again hosting its Annual Car Show on Saturday 8 June 2019.

Annual Outing to Talana - 20 October 2018

A lovely day at Talana.
The Talana Live is an annual event which the VVCC participates in and this year the event was held at Talana Museum, Dundee. Club members congregated at the Wimpy Junction, Vryheid on a very wet and cold morning. No less than 14 cars departed en-route to the event. :It rained all the way until the arrival in Dundee. The morning was enjoyed with visits to the museum and various food stalls as well as interaction with members from other vintage car clubs.

During the day the weather improved and we were treated to a display of large Scottish bands of which members were from various towns. In the afternoon we were entertained by a re-enactment of THE BATTLE OF TALANA between the British and the Boers. True to tradition, the members of the VVCC were treated to a hearty braai organized by Leon and Neels before our departure back home.
The day's outing went very well with no mechanical problems.
Our thanks to the members for braving the bad weather to support the Talana Live day. Well done!!!

The Annual Chicken Run - 15 September 2018

Our Chicken Run
The weather started off badly but eventually turned into a nice day.
Kowie Lombard, the sponsor from Valley View Chickens, came all the way from Mtunzini for the day. We had a total of 17 cars enter for the short fun run that had been organized.
Some of our members came from as far as Piet Retief and Pongola. The entrants were grouped in teams of four and five, and no two cars from the same group ran together.
This made for a very interesting run, and the Kowie Lombard Floating Trophy, which was donated by Kowie some years ago, was eventually won by team four - Kobus, Cornell, Arthur and Harry. After a prize-giving we all enjoyed a lovely chicken braai.
The salads and puddings ended a perfect day. Thanks to the organizers. We look forward to another great day next year.

"An often heard statement is that good things come in small packages. This is certainly true in the case of the Vryheid Car Show, held this year on 9th June 2018.
It's always a mystery to me how a small town in the midlands of KZN can have such a varied selection of veteran and vintage cars on display. Fords were obviously the chosen brand of the locals in years gone by.
I remember the editor of the old SAVVA magazine, Automobilist of about 30 years ago once writing about Fords and Chevs and how you could ascertain the political leanings of the drivers: UP supporters had Chevs and National Party supporters invariably had Fords!
What makes this show so special is that it's not just a one day show. The festivities start the night before at the Vryheid Club's clubhouse where they have a lovely dinner for all the members and visitors that have arrived from afar, and then after the show on Saturday evening at the clubhouse another dinner is organised for visitors and members. You get a complete weekend package.
The standard of restoration of the Model T and the A Fords that appear each year is of an exceptionally high standard. Originality is obviously a keyword in Vryheid. I would recommend this show to anyone who is need of a weekend away. The various B&B's in the vicinity of the showgrounds are not expensive and don't seem to overcharge visitors for that weekend. To the committee and members that make this show possible my congratulations for a job well done. - FRED"

Report on VVCC Car Show

The day of our car show dawned bright and clear - the Lord had blessed us with a perfect day! The good weather resulted in record numbers of spectators turning up for the show.

As always the big light cars were the main attraction and believe it or not, we had 14 Model T Fords and 18 Model A's on show.

The Volvo Club from Johannesburg had their 10th annual run to our show and, as usual, had a very large turnout with nearly 40 Volvo's joining us. To celebrate this event we had a wonderful evening at the clubhouse with one of our local churches serving the most delicious meal of curry and rice.

The show was very well supported by other car clubs as well as individuals coming from all over the country. Herman Nel came all the way from Nelspruit with his Model T. A wonderful array of classics was on display with some really nicely turned out cars. The local dealers put on a great show with John Deere pulling out all the stops.

Our tractor collectors can also really be proud of the wonderful collection that had all the older farmers in ecstasy as they called back their past. This was well supported by the "doef-doef" engines with Johan Horn and Coen Labuschagne coming all the way from Pongola to display their magnificent machines.

A new attraction at the show this year was the music tent with artists entertaining the crowds who thoroughly enjoyed the music and the tent was packed out for most of the day. Nico Van Wyk brought his little train and spoiled the children by giving them rides around the show at no cost. We were fortunate to have the accomplished photographer, Rene Herrmann, taking photos of all the beautiful old cars and she has also made a video which is on sale to members at a reasonable cost. As usual the church handled the catering and John Kitching was on duty to do the announcements and providing the background music.

After lunch, the car parade drew a large crowd who really enjoyed listening to the stories about each car. The standard of restoration was cheered with loud applause and it was agreed that this was a great idea.

So after the show, all those who still had the energy, attended the after-show party at the clubhouse, ending of a perfect weekend.

10th Volvo Walk to Vryheid - June 2017

My 10th Volvo Walk to Vryheid kicked off on Friday the 9th, guys from Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Freestate and KZN set off to attend the VVVCC motor show on Saturday.

Those from Johannesburg, Pretoria and surrounds gathered at the Total Petroport on the N3 between Alberton and Heidelberg. At 11h00 headed off to Standerton where we had a Pitstop at the Schmitt House and were treated to homemade soup, bread, pate, coffee and biscuits - delicious!, sorry for those who gave the pitstop a miss. Next off Volksrust, we encountered five "Stop n Go's", call them "Chillouts", at least there are no stones flying from oncoming traffic. The drive through Majuba is always a pleasure, arrived in Vryheid after 16h00 giving us enough time to peg out the Volvo Walk stand at the field.

On Friday evening we were all treated to a very affordable meal at the Vryheid Vintage Car Club's clubhouse. WOW! The tables were decorated commemorating the 10th Volvo Walk to Vryheid. I think I have to thank Alfie Ball and Co for that, you guys excelled yourselves - THANK YOU.

On Saturday at the Volvo Walk to Vryheid stand 32 Volvo's surrounded 10 foreign participants (Datsuns, Morris Minor's, Renault, Austin Healey), our plan was that at 12h00 we torch them, however they turned out to be a lekka bunch of guys so we spared them the misery and enjoyed the banter. After taking photos, having them printed, mounting them, presenting them together with a medal and a coffee cup I then sat down and had a beer.

Saturday evening back to the clubhouse to watch the rugby and tuck into a dinner deluxe sponsored by VVCC.

Outing - 10 September 2016 - Garage Safari

The "Garage Safari" was hosted by Leon Van den Berg and incorporated a visit to Oscar Eybers's collection.

The event was well supported by the members. The group met at the clubhouse and proceeded from there out to Oscar's premises, about 10km out of town. Oscar has a collection consisting primarily of Porsches and Alfas and couple of VW Beetles. By all accounts this is a collection worth seeing.

At Leon's private home everybody was treated to a stunning display of part of his collection of vintage and classic cars. Everybody enjoyed a bring-and-braai with Leon and his family. Once again the Garage Safari was a most interesting event and thoroughly enjoyed by all the members. A very big thank you to Oscar and Leon for accommodating the car club.

Outing- 25 September 2016 - The Annual Chicken Run

In the month of September, the Chicken Run Outing was hosted by Kowie and Carol. It is well-known and very popular and well supported by the members of the club and their families. However due to the uncertainty of the weather, the outing was held at the VVCC facilities. We were met by Kowie and Carol at the club, and true to tradition excellent refreshments and snacks were made available, As usual, great interaction about members and their cars was shared by all.
The fires were started at the appropriate time and the "A-Team", namely Kowie Jnr and Trevor, were responsible for the braaiing. I believe we are yet to experience a more sumptuous and tasty chicken braai than the traditional braai of Kowie and Carol.
During the course of the afternoon our chairman thanked our hosts for their excellent hospitality. Small tokens of appreciation were made on behalf the members. Our club was also presented with a floating trophy and a banner by Kowie of various past outings - then known as "The Valley View Chicken Run". Perhaps consideration should be given for future outings to be known by the above-mentioned name.
Once again, another splendid day shared by all and our thanks to Kowie and Carol.
