We just got back from an amazing family vacation and found some baby items that have now become essential as we travel and road trip this summer!

To give you an idea of our voyage, we had 2 full days of 12-13 hours of travel….
I know what you’re thinking, we were so nervous too, but our 8 month old did great!
This vacation gave us so much confidence in our future travels.

We had 5 flights in the span of 7 days, 3 different sleeping locations, and many many MANY contact naps.
We were exhausted, but we would do it again!

Here are some of the essentials we took on this trip, and don’t worry, we will update our list as our baby grows and as we need more accomodations for him. Let us know if you would like a more in-depth look at our packing list, how we kept our routines similar to home, and how we were able to have fun with baby, but ensure he was rested.
All of these items were purchased on Amazon (paid link).

1. Slumberpod $174.99

JUST BUY IT! It is as amazing as everyone told us!
It is 100% pitch black, the material is soft and sturdy, and it is easy assembly. I set it up myself whenever we used it, like a tent, but easier!
We love that there is a spot for a camera and a fan if needed.
Our baby slept great, we kept his routine similar to the one at home and he settled in with no problems. We set it up in the corner of our hotel room with our Hatch Sound Machine going.
Cons: the hotel we stayed at was VERY HOT, even after they checked our AC. The Slumberpod did get a little stuffy, but we ensured to open the little vents located on either sides of the Slumberpod and we turned on a little fan we brought with us inside of the “fan compartment” and this helped A LOT.

2. Travel Bottle Drying Rack and Brush $20.99

Our baby drinks formula every couple of hours and we knew we needed a travel size drying rack and brush! We used this at our family’s house, hotel, airport, and airplane!
Easy to set up, everything dries quickly, and the little bottle of soap I took fit perfectly inside of the box.

3. Munchkin 98 Digital Bottle Warmer (Plug-in) $39.99
This bottle warmer was excellent! Compact and easy to use.
We purchased the one that comes with the MAM Adapter, which was $10 more, but the original comes with 4 adapters which fit Dr. Brown's Original, Avent, Medela, and Tommee Tippee bottles. We liked that this warmer kept the milk warm for 30 minutes, so we could start it as we got into our hotel room. It took about 6-9 minutes to heat up 5-9 oz of formula. The device has a Digital Temperature Display and it ensured our formula was warm for baby every feeding.

4. Snack Tray $9.99
We knew we would need a good amount of snacks for baby on our travel days and we wanted something sturdy, but compact. We were able to take quite a few snacks in this little tray!
Our baby eats real food 1-2 times during the day and we knew it would be a little tricky when we were flying, so having different snacks to choose from was great!
Con: The lid snaps on and there are no hinges, so the lid either has to be off or on. This got a little annoying on the plane as we had to ensure it wasn’t going to fall or open.

5. Packing Cubes: Mossio $16.99 and Veken $25.99
We needed to ensure our baggage was packed in an efficient way so that we could find things quickly and so that we could have enough room for all of the baby things!
These packing cubes were great! I bought the Mossio ones for baby and I and the Veken for my husband, but I wish I would have bought two sets of the Veken! They were bigger and sturdier. But for $10 less, the Mossio ones were great for mine and baby’s clothes… and the print is adorable.

6. Suction Cup Spinner Toys $12.97
These are the best invention in the world!
This was an amazing find from my sister-in-law and I ended up purchasing a set!
She let baby borrow these little toys on the airplane and he loved it. He didn’t care for the new toys we bought him, but played with these for the whole flight!
I didn’t find that they were noisy or distracting to the other passengers, we suctioned them to the window and the front of the seat/tray table.

7. Travel Bottles for Toiletries $11.99
We bought these bottles for baby toiletries: his lotion, shampoo, body wash, and we used one for dish soap to use alongside the travel size drying rack and bottle brush.
These did not leak at all, even with all of the flying.
Con: It is impossible to control how much product comes out! Meaning, when you squeeze, the amount of product that comes out is about the size of a quarter. This was slightly annoying because we tend to use less product when bathing baby or when washing bottles. Wasn’t a big deal, but can be wasteful.

It’s been a year and a half of long baking hours, so many photoshoots, and a lot of trial and error; but it is SO worth it.

I love helping start up businesses find their aesthetic and their social media presence.

It is not easy to start a new endeavor, but from my mom’s and I’s experience, we can honestly say that finding purpose and joy in what we do has become one of the biggest lessons of Quarantine 2020.

I quit my job to pursue my photography full time and to live my life the way I have wanted for so long, but believed I couldn’t because it wouldn’t have as much “worth” as a corporate career.

This is not to say that we cannot have a desire to grow our corporate careers, but just a desire to find purpose in the careers we are in.
I wanted to align my desired lifestyle and work to my values and to do good for my community.

2020 brought a lot of pain and hardship to my life, as it did to so many, but something I will forever be grateful for is spending the last few hours of my father’s life by his bedside and realizing in that moment that he lived a full and worthwhile life. In those moments no one cared what his job title was, how much money he made, or any monetary value his “things” had.

I saw my father smile and laugh and look so peaceful before those long hours that would welcome his death.
I have thought a lot about what my reactions would be to knowing I was passing away.
Would I smile? Would I look around the room and feel that I have done enough, given my time and efforts to help those around me?

If you knew my dad, you knew all he ever wanted to do was help those around him.
His biggest hero was Mother Teresa and he talked about her often to us kids.
He gave all of his time, love, and energy to help my family, our neighborhood, and our community.

Ultimately, I want that look of peace to come over me when I take my last breaths.
I want to know that I lived an ethical and authentic life full of purpose.

On that note, here are some of the yummy food my mom and I have made over the last year and a half!
I have loved being her business partner and growing with her.

After a year and a half of contemplating whether or not I would continue with our blog, I decided, why the hell not?

My second to last post was made the day before my father died.
And my last blog post was published because it was sitting so perfectly written and constructed in my drafts with a date and time to self-publish.

What an amazing concept.

Today, I sit at my computer staring at the screen unable to find words, meaning, or desire to construct an aesthetically pleasing blog post, full of pictures immaculately edited to match, puns and carefully crafted stories to reach those who might be reading.

Today, I don’t care as much.
As I have come to learn the last 517 days since I saw my poor father take his last breath after hours and hours of suffering, life is not what I once thought it was.
It is fleeing, quick, unforgiving, and continually in motion.

And I used to romanticize those concepts as if I knew that they meant.
Today, I laugh at past me for ever thinking I knew pain, knew heartache, knew what it felt to feel completely and utterly defeated.

The great thing about all of this is that I feel different.
Not in a woe-is-me kind of a way. Not in a pessimistic kind of way; although I am aware this is sounding a lot like that. Haha.
I feel as if I can see clearly, as if I am now in on a big secret.
Life feels real all of a sudden.

As if knowing the greatest pain I have yet to know has removed some sort of blinders I once had.
It is incredibly beautiful, in a very dark and crude way.

In feeling different, I would like to allow myself to use this blog as whatever I might want.
Meaning, I don’t think there will be many rules, perhaps less structure, more of my soul and perhaps less of the perfectly crafted snapshots of my life.

I will still include fun remodels of my home, DIY content, and fun stories, but I will allow myself the patience to create that as I see fit.
As my soul longs for it.

Here is what has been on my mind the last 514 day.

My favorite thing in the entire world is giving a piece of furniture a makeover!

It can be a great affordable alternative to buying new furniture.
We love finding great deals on furniture and then making it our own!
Oftentimes vintage pieces are strong and need small cosmetic fixes, which makes it such a fun project!

We found this great hutch on Facebook Marketplace a few months ago and we knew we had to pull the trigger! (Sites like Facebook Marketplace, KSL, and Craigslist are awesome because you can see your item face to face and do a little haggling!)

The only issue Ty and I face is transporting larger furniture to our home since we don’t have a truck!
But our great friend Austin came through and let us borrow his truck to pick up this beautiful piece :)
(I have been trying to convince Ty to get us a truck so that I can purchase even more large furniture hehe ;)
Fingers crossed!)

So my favorite part of a makeover is deciding what I want the final product to look like.
I love getting inspiration!
Ty and I decided we wanted to put this hutch in our dining room so I made some sketches and kept in mind the current colors of our dining room: white, natural wood, gray, gold, and green from our greenery.
While it was a tough choice between an off white rustic look and a black, copper hardware look; ultimately we chose black!

We knew this would be such a focal point in our dining room and would look so classic and beautiful!

Here’s what we did:

1. We took the doors off and started sanding the hutch. Sanding helps remove old paint and create an even canvas. Because I was painting the hutch black, I didn’t try to hard to remove all of the paint, I knew the black would cover it up. My biggest concern was having the wood be smooth so that the paint would go on great.

2. I started painting while Ty started cleaning the glass! HERE is the paint I used! It is thick and goes on so smoothly, it leaves no brush marks! Ty used a razor blade to get the old paint from the glass. Since I started painting before Quarantine (when I have more time), it took me a little longer since I would paint a little every week.

3. Next came hardware! We found some cute handles and door hinges at Lowe’s (I cannot find them on the site to link them, but they are still there!). Last week as we were helping my mom clean out her garage, we found some door knobs that were my dad’s. My mom gave them to me so that I could use them on our hutch and so that I can always remember my dad when I see them :)

4. The backing! The original backing of the hutch was not our favorite. We had plans of buying new paneling to make it look a little cleaner, but then we realized we were a little tight on money so we got a little creative and painted really rustically using white chalk paint. When I use chalk paint, I always water it down slightly so that it is easier to paint with. I was not careful as I painted and think the rustic look turned out beautiful! We painted the shelves and sides the same way (look below for example in picture).

5. Ty and I brought it inside but required help from my strong brother to get the top part on.

There are still a few finishing touches we want to add and I am debating wether or not I want to sand the edges and grooves slightly to add a rustic look! What do you think?
We love what this did to our dining room and can’t wait to get curtains and artwork up on the walls!

I went on the hunt for the cutest egg holders this season!

My inspiration?
The wonderful women in my life.

I knew my mother, Emilia, would love an egg holder that incorporated farmhouse and vintage style.
I knew I had to find something that was colorful and unique!
After searching, I found THIS perfect egg holder! FOR $11.73!
I loved it so much, I bought myself one too!

My beautiful sister-in-law, Ashlyn, was my inspiration for THESE glass egg cups!
She is royal, dainty, and a gorgeous queen!
I thought these would look perfect on her table!
And for under $8??

Last but not least, my mother-in-law, Jodie, inspired THIS egg holder.
Her home is always full of classic and simple farmhouse decor, so I thought this all white ceramic egg holder would be beautiful for her home!
Under $7 and this egg holder looks so darling!

I love decorations that look beautiful but have a purpose!
These egg holders can be placed in the fridge or on the counter and the glass cups can be used for breakfast and then set out on an open shelf to add color to a room!

I can’t get enough!

This DIY is so easy and it looks so nice!

I have some old books that I use to make crafts, great places to find cheap books are thrift stores, vintage stores, and YARD/GARAGE SALES!

Using old newspaper, wallpaper, or wrapping paper also works! All you need is:

• book pages

• bunny outline (this is the one I used, I found it on Google)

• cotton balls

• scissors

• hole punch

• twine or string

Instructions:

1. Print out and cut out the bunny outline.

2. Trace outline on book pages and cut out.

3. Hole punch two holes through the bunny’s ears.

4. Glue on the cotton ball on the bunny’s tail.

5. Using twine, arrange the bunnies and hang up!

I wanted all of my bunnies facing the same way, but if you would like, you can have them facing different directions.

How cute are these???

It’s funny how excited I got when I saw the sun shining for a few days in a row.
I told myself to not get my hopes up. I did. And then it got colder.
AND THEN IT SNOWED AGAIN.

This year I have experienced a sadness during our winter that I never had before.
Life is anxiously growing tougher while time does not stop.

When I took these images, I remember thinking how beautiful the light looked despite it being so cold outside.
The inside of our small home was warm, inviting, and humming with excitement as we waited for our family to stop by for dinner.

This winter season has taught me some very important lessons.
Firstly, it is not fun to receive terrible news during Christmas season. It makes everything gloomy.
Right before Christmas is when we were told that my dad would not live much longer.

Secondly, I realized that waiting for something bad to happen eats at you and drives you insane.
Some would say that is common sense, but how does one turn off one’s thoughts filled with worries and rage and frustrations?

Thirdly, I realized that I can still feel warmth and be hugged by light regardless of how cold it is.
Cheesy metaphor, I know.
But I am now realizing that I can enjoy my father and mourn with him all at once.

These images will mean so much to me forever.
I have had a very hard time photographing my father these last two years.
And interestingly enough I photograph spaces he has walked through or places he has spent time in.
But I can’t quite bring myself to take his picture and to see all the pain he is in.

But I am working on it, I am trying harder to overcome this fear of mine that I didn’t even know was a fear until not too long ago.

But there is something so beautifully and ironically terrifying of continually photographing memories without him in them.

Saying goodbye to Christmas has been very hard but we cannot wait for this new year!

2020 here we come!!

We are getting so close to Christmas it is actually INSANE!

This year this Christmas season has gone by so fast!
But it has been beautiful and merry!

We took our Christmas photos a few weeks ago and had to share some that didn’t make the cut!
This year we decided to send out postcards and they turned out beautiful! (I will post again to show you guys where we had them printed, pricing, etc.)

We quickly start losing control of the situation with our doggos as they get more and more antsy! Haha!
We only shot for about 5 minutes before it was time to call it quits!
But the shots we captured are so cute it was worth it!

Merry Christmas!

We have been loving this winter season!
The snow, warm naps on the couch, and spending time with family and friends!

Winter is also a great season for growth and rejuvenation.
It has also been a time of reflection for my family and I as we are even closer to saying goodbye to another year and feeling hopeful that my Dad can live to see another Christmas! (for those of you who don’t know, my father has been battling with cancer for almost 6 years and these last couple of months have been really hard. He has slowly been getting worse and worse but is still with us, so we are grateful for any extra time we can have with him!)

Our number one family tradition is Secret Santa!
AND WE LOVE IT.

We started it a few years ago when we realized we felt a little guilty not being able to afford gifts for every person in the family.
And while Christmas is not about gifts, it does feel great to be able to gift a little something that we know will brighten up the other person’s day.
But we realized that it would be more meaningful to draw one name and really focus on that person during the season.

So a few years ago we wrote names on little pieces of paper, put it in a bowl, and went around while everyone picked a name. It has been so fun!

After a few years I got married and so Ty joined the fun, and then Ashlyn (Kevin’s wife) joined the family and she became part of our game as well!It has been even more fun with more people!

And as the years went by, our Secret Santa became a fun get together and we started bringing food, playing games, etc.
So this year Ty and I really wanted to host the Secret Santa party since it is our first Christmas in our home!
We decided to make a Hot Cocoa Bar and lay out some small decorations.

Interestingly enough, our dining room gets the most use in our house and it is the room that we have left to finish for last!
While remodeling, painting, and decorating, we focused our energies on other rooms!
But when we invite friends and family over, the presence of these lovely souls make our dining room the brightest room in the house!
White walls and a table is all we need! (But we do have many ideas for how we will be decorating this beautiful space, don’t you fret!)

So here are a few images of our tablespread and one really cute image of my family with our doggos :)

And as a little sidenote, I am reminded of this quote I read that I think is just fantastic, “Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones that would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.”

Family is a network of people who love us and support us and that can be defined in a million ways. Families are tough and gritty but also lovely and warm. I want to be family to everyone around me!

Merry Christmas!

Autumn is my favorite time of year and this year it also proved to be the most busy!

So before I knew it, snow was falling, stores were filled with Christmas decorations and it wasn’t even Thanksgiving yet!

So this year I kept my Autumn decor up a little longer and started adding some Christmas reds and greens instead of taking down all of the warmth that comes with Autumn.
I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but the crisp air, the sweaters, the crunchy leaves, the rain, and the apple cider all bring warmth to my heart!
I have always loved this season and it was especially hard to say goodbye to it again.

Long time no see! (No hear?! Haha!)
Today we have a cute little downloadable image as well as a great DIY autumn/winter stovetop potpourri!

Our quote of the day is “They who sing through the summer must dance in the winter.”
Well, if winter is going to feel like today does, then bring on the winter!
All jokes aside, winter is great! … until the seasonal depression hits and you realize it’s only November and you have 4 more months to endure!

So if you’re like me, you LOVE going outside and seeing the snow, drinking hot chocolate, cuddling your partner and doggos, taking long warm baths, skiing, etc. BUT THEN YOU GET HOME AND YOU FREAK OUT BECAUSE YOU THINK IT’S MIDNIGHT BUT IT’S REALLY ONLY 5PM.
The anxiety is real people! Haha. 

So here is a little Winter Potpourri that we have simmering in our house all the time that helps us endure the winter!
We are huge aromatherapy people and sometimes you need a little potpourri to make your house smell like Christmas and make you feel warm inside :)

It’s easy to put together and if you have enough supplies, it makes for a great gift!

What I used in my potpourri:

• Oranges and Grapefruit

• Cinnamon Sticks

• Cloves

• Pine Needles

Since I knew I would be gifting my potpourri, I decided to dry my oranges/grapefruit so that they made my little potpourri extra aesthetically pleasing!
But placing a whole orange/grapefruit (or a couples small ones) in your gift bag/box would look equally beautiful :)

If you would like to dry your citrus, do this:

1. Using a sharp serrated knife, cut your citrus into thin slices. The thinner the quicker they will dry.

2. Place a cooling rack on a cookie sheet and place your citrus on top of a cooling rack (the cooling rack allows for the citrus slices to dry equally and faster!)

3. Place in the oven at 200 degrees for 2-4 hours. (My oranges took 2 hours to dry and my grapefruit took 4 hours.)

4. After baking the citrus slices, I left them on the cooling rack overnight to ensure they were perfectly dry.

Next, assembling the gift bags! My favorite part!
And the cherry on top is printing out this cute free downloadable! (For personal use only, make sure to credit us!)!

It’s labeled “Stovetop Potpourri”, gives clear instructions and makes gifting these even easier!
All this Winter Stovetop Potpourri needs is 2 cups of water and can simmer for hours.
Water can be added as needed and you can add essential oils, other herbs, or spices to create an even more unique aroma!

Here are some other great things you can add to this potpourri:

• Nutmeg

• Allspice

• Star Anise

• Vanilla Bean

• Rosemary

• Mint

• Lemon

• Cranberries

• Apples

This recipe was inspired by my mother who made the most delicious Peanut Butter Energy Balls last week!

I was craving something sweet today and pulled out all the ingredients I could to use in this recipe! That’s the fun part about these energy bites, you can put whatever you want in them and as long as you have a nut butter (or coconut oil), they will form into the most delicious bites!

I just knew that I needed peanut butter and chocolate in mine… there’s no harm in that :)

What you will need:

• 1 cup of oats

• ⅔ cup creamy natural peanut butter

• 2 tbsp maple syrup

• ¼ cup flax seed

• 2 tbsp chia seeds

• ¼ cup dark chocolate chips (optional ;))

• 2 tbsp shredded coconut (optional)

• Other great things to add: seeds, protein powder, dates or any dried fruit, nuts, coconut oil instead of a nut butter, cinnamon, turmeric, vanilla  … the possibilities are endless!)

Instructions:

1. Place all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix.

2. Form balls and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

3. Place in freezer until hard so they retain their shape.

4. I keep these energy balls in a container in the freezer and snack on them throughout the week!

*** If you are not lazy like me, place the ingredients in a food processor to create smooth and compact balls. This also helps if you have picky eaters at home who dislike textures!

Here we are with Episode 2 of our Video Updates!
I wish I could say there is a ton of home renovation footage, but alas there is not hehe.
I have been in a little bit of a weird state lately and my creativity won over my desire to show you our home remodels.

That’s not to say you won’t see more remodel videos, you will! (Already working on it for next week :))

Ty and I have had an interesting couple of months to say the least.
My parents were gracious enough to let us stay with them as we finished up our home, but if you know me then you know what it’s like to live with me! Haha!

Living out of our suitcases, invading other’s spaces, and ultimately feeling as if things would never look up, I became more and more anxious.
Hence you have not seen a lot from us. From balancing work, remodels, and never-ending tasks, it felt as if we were in auto pilot. It’s not a great feeling!
The whole time my desire to create and share grew.

Ideas for our blog, our videos, and my photography came pouring in these last few months! (And have continued to come!)
So even though it has been hard, Tyler and I have learned so much about ourselves and feel that this pushed us miles outside our comfort zone, something we will forever be grateful for!

I hope you guys enjoy this video.
It might not make any sense… and I am okay with that!

These last couple of months have felt like a blur and I have battled with this idea of technology.
The voice you hear in this video is our angel Matty Healy, may his words impact you as they do me.
I constantly wonder what I should capture with my phone and what I should capture solely with my heart/soul.

Does that make any sense? If it does to you, we should talk, because this topic fascinates me!

I try my best to balance what I capture with my phone (camera, mic, film, etc), but the creative in me sees beauty (this doesn’t always mean something “beautiful”, beauty is different for everyone and is found all around us. Again, such an amazing topic!) in everything.

Is it bad to want to share with the world the things that send shivers down my spine, make me cry unconsolably, and that leave me speechless? Or those moments that inspire me so fully I feel complete?

Here is a list of feelings I wish I could capture in a bottle and send it to all of you:

• when you hear that song you’ve heard a million times, but somehow every time it sounds new and the warmth in your heart engulfs you

• that special time of summer’s night when you roll down your car window and the wind hugs you and you see clearly for the first time

• looking into the depth of the person you are madly in love with and finally understanding why it is you do

• feeling so small surrounded by nature and matching your breathing to the trees, the flowers, and the wind

• wondering why you are so lucky to be surrounded by the people you are, what you did to deserve them

• the pain that comes with knowing you could be better

• the tears that come when you realize how much of your life has been lived

• the undeniable sorrow that comes with watching a loved one suffer and feeling as if you can’t do anything

• the questions that come late at night when your brain is no longer distracted

I could go on and on.
These feelings live inside of me and encompass me daily.
Granted, I think a lot (some might say overthink) and I constantly fear losing time and opportunities.

And I hope we can talk and I can visit you and let you know how much you mean to me.
