We’ve just gotten set up with a new internet provider and providing things continue to run as smoothly as they have today, I’ll be better able to finish all this online stuff that I’m super behind on. Our connectivity has been really touchy for a long time so I really really hope those days are officially over for a while.

Nearly there, I hope

Got a lot done this week. The new theme is applied, though not fully customized yet. I tried to do it all offline, but that ended up a bit more complicated and counterintuitive, (to the way I work anyway) so I’m just going to most of my fixing on the server itself. The feed shouldn’t be affected since I’m not changing urls or anything, so if you’re seeing this in a reader it should be fine. On the site itself some stuff is a little broken though, and I’ve taken some stuff offline so it could be reworked (the Links page for example). It should only take a couple days of tinkering to get it worked out, then I can make the design a bit more customized.

Once the heavy lifting is done I’m going to reorganize the posts quite a bit, so some links may break. I might be deleting some content, since there’s a lot that’s either really out of date or just not all that useful or interesting. I might move silly stuff either to a sub-domain or a separate category. It’ll depend on what’s easiest probabbly.

I don’t want this notice to be too long so that’s it for now. Here’s hoping I’m finished by the end of the weekend!

Here’s what’s up

I’ve been doing a lot of work on the backend (the install is a few years old so it had gotten a bit messy) and it’s looking like I may not have to do an export and fresh install after all. I still might for other reasons later but now it should be a bit less complicated when it comes time for that.

What I am going to do is a bit of a redesign. I think info and content on the site could be organized better so I’m just going to give the whole shebang a face lift. Posting will be a bit sporadic while I work on this, so please bear with me. Ironically right after I finished my mockups somebody released a theme that’s quite close to what I was hoping to build on something else, (and with nice typography too) so that’ll cut down on the amount of code I’ll have to tweak a bit. I still can’t actually make themes from scratch but I am getting around child themes a bit better these days. I’m so glad that option is now available to us.

I may make my current child theme available in a non-branded form when I’m ready to use the new one, depending on interest.

Technical foobardness

Having some troubles (comp and hosting, bleh) so apologies for the silence. I’ve got some of the comp stuff worked out but there’s still some other things to get worked out before I can go back to a more normal posting frequency. I may have to do some tag and category reorganizing and that’ll just be simpler if I don’t keep adding too many new posts before I figure it out. Hopefully I’ll have it sorted right away.

P.S. I’m thinking about bringing the forum back. We could talk art and nerdy stuff. Would that be interesting to anybody?
