How Many can you eat?

Yea that’s right, nothing like having a burger on Labor Day. But how many can you eat? Can you eat so many burgers to be qualified in the Labor Day Burger Eating Contest?

Whitlow’s on Wilson is having a burger eating contest and you’re invited! Whether or not you’re participating in the contest you should come out for this honorary event. You can watch, you can eat or you can eat and watch whichever you pick! All we want here at The Wellington is for you to have a great time on your Labor Day!

It's National Dog Day!

Today, August 26 is National Dog Day and knowing that The Wellington Apartment Homes is a pet-friendly community we want to help you celebrate!

Your dog is a member of your family and we know that. I know my dog (who is now 14) is definitely a member of my family. He’s been with us ever since I was a kid and I can’t remember a single memory without him in it (I’m ignoring the fact that he’s getting a bit older). So how can you celebrate a member of the family? We’ve got some great ways to help you celebrate!

1. Post pictures of your dog on our Facebook Page and let us appreciate your cute four legged pet!
2. Buy your pet a special delicious treat!
3. Take your dog out and enjoy the fresh air! Give them the space they’ll love!
4. Pamper your puppy! Give them a bath or take them to a pet salon.
5. Don’t have a four legged loved one? Adopt! or Rescue!

Some people like beer and some people like wine. I’ve only met a few people that like both. I have to say that I am one of those people, I enjoy both wine and beer. Why? How? Well I’ve come to understand that knowing a good beer is the same as knowing a good wine.

There are a lot of characteristics that go into finding a good wine and surprisingly enough a lot of those same characteristics go into finding a good beer. You have color and a wine tastes different depending on color…white wine vs. red wine. The same goes with beer,  you have your dark meaty beers (Guinness) and your lighter beers like St. Pauli, these do not taste the same. You have temperature, a red wine is usually served at a warmer temperature while a white wine is served cold. The same goes for beer, depending on the country you might get a warmer beer or an ice cold beer. Another characteristic that goes into finding a good wine or good beer is the date. When it comes to wine; the older wine the better but, for beer; the fresher the beer the better.  Lastly, there’s the make (the brand) we all know you can have a “boxed” wine and those aren’t always the best decisions, then you have the wine that’s kept in a humidified room and costs an arm and a leg, all because you can’t pronounce the name of where it came from. The same goes for beer; you can go for a Bud Light and have a watery good time or you can be ” a real man” and try Spaten.

Like I said before either you’re a beer person or a wine person. But either way it’s DC Beer Week and if you’re a wine person, take the time to learn some beer culture. More than 40 breweries and 30 restaurants and pubs are participating in this 10 day event. No matter what type of person you are, help celebrate DC Beer Week!

I’ve never really enjoy History…I think it’s the stereotype that History follows…it’s boring!

Only until recently have I started to enjoy History. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m a bit older and I can truly appreciate the facts. Another thing I’ve started doing is visiting places that are immersed in History. My current location to visit? The Arlington Cemetery.

I’m not sure why I haven’t visited this place until now.  I’ve been going back many times because it’s definitely not a place you can only visit once. My next destination at the Arlington Cemetery? The Tomb of the Unknowns.

The Tomb of the Unknowns is also known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. A white sarcophagus sits on top a hill marking the area of the Unknown Soldier.  Soldiers from World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam are buried here.

I cannot wait to view this piece of History.

Thai food has to be one of my favorite types of food to get from a restaurant. First it’s very tasty and second because I cannot make it. Trust me if I could make my own Thai food I’d rather do that… but for now I usually head out to Thai Square Restaurant for some “Good Eats.”

If you haven’t tried Thai before that’s okay it does seem “exotic” and maybe you won’t like it…but I know you will. For starters go easy…go with what you feel comfortable with, most Thai restaurants like Thai Square Restaurant have descriptions under the names of dishes.

My personal favorite meal at any Thai restaurant (especially Thai Square Restaurant) is the Tom Kha Kai (coconut soup), Panang Curry (beef/chicken curry with mild spice) and Thai Tea!  Yum!!
