Your Role

The Performance Engineer is responsible for tuning all networks, hardware, software and other applications to ensure optimal performance for their low-latency trading infrastructure:

Write software to decode and analyze market feeds.
Revise Linux kernels to monitor and improve data performance.
Collect deep analysis of the trading system performance data.
Customize and integrate 3rd party network cards into trading software.
Initiate preventative/corrective measures and develop tools to measure performance.
Play a leading role in performance improvement projects.
Identify bottlenecks and potential areas for optimisation.
Provide ongoing ideas, solutions and recommendations for producing stronger results.
Understand external trends, competitor approaches and recent developments in IT that will help improve the trading systems, infrastructure and services.
Work closely with the broader IT team to understand key issues and initiatives.
Work closely with Traders to understand their needs and requirements, to communicate key developments/issues and to implement new initiatives.

Your Profile

Expert in:

Various operating systems and their internal workings (Unix, Linux, Solaris, Windows, Mac OS X).
Scripting (Perl, Python, Bash, Powershell).
Java and/or C/C++.

Experience with OS and network tuning.
Good understanding of networked systems (TCP/IP, UDP, IP multicast).
Experience with SQL (MySQL).
Experience with Wireshark/Ethereal
Prefer a candidate with:

Understanding of financial markets and trading.
Understanding of system and network performance concepts.
Familiarity with 3rd party trading software.

Out-of-the-box thinking (breaks away from tradition)
Winner mentality, results oriented and get things done.
Hands-on and entrepreneurial, proactive and self starting.
Quick learner with strong analytical skills who is capable of prioritizing
Excellent English communication skills - both written and spoken.
University Degree or relevant IT qualifications.

Join this innovation Dutch company who runs one of the largest websites in the Netherlands. This innovative, high-paced web 2.0 product company is located in the centre of Amsterdam and is a respected contender in their industry.

Your Role

Their platform is characterized by high-volume traffic and cutting-edge web 2.0 technology. More than 1500 Linux servers, located in 3 datacenters around Amsterdam, generate 4.5 billion page views per month.

The website runs on Gentoo Linux running Apache and MySQL. The main development languages are Python and PHP. Everything runs on 64-bit AMD or Intel platforms with 2-4 cores.

Your Profile

Minimum of a Bachelor degree in IT.
3+ years of professional experience in a Linux variant, preferably have your knowledge of several distributions.
Scripting and programming in BASH, PHP or Python is required.
You have experience with at least 3 of the following technologies or server software: squid, apache, MySQL, LVS, Nagios, memcached, jabber, puppet, cfengine, pound/lighty/nginx, gfs/clustering, trac, subversion, git & ganglia or mrtg.
Experience in building software and packages to generate a Linux distribution is a clear advantage.
Extensive experience with TCP/IP, routing, firewalling and any dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF or BGP.
Preferably you have ISP or large ICT experience as a Linux System Administrator or Programmer.
Excellent English, both written and spoken.
The Employer is willing to organize a Knowledge Migrant visa for exceptional people, however they would prefer to hire people who already live in Europe and are free to work in the Netherlands.
