Left field isn't only for players who can't play first base. Once, when legendary left fielder Rickey Nelson Henley Henderson was asked by a teammate if he had the Garth Brooks album with 'Friends in Low Places' he famously replied, “Rickey doesn’t have albums. Rickey has CDs.” Well we can't be sure if Rickey has MP3s, but if he does, he'd probably say "Rickey likes 'Rickey Being Rickey'" and mean it in more ways than even he would understand.

The illest of the illeists, Rickey could not be contained by baseball just as this mix cannot be contained (legally) by Rickey. There is no bigger self-made star in the twisted universe of professional baseball players; a mustachioed meteor, Henderson blazed a trail across three decades just as this mix does, only with less panache. PersonPeople would trade their every last recorded sound byte just for one of Rickey's false stories to be true about them. Of all the stories though, there are still some left that even the most die-hard fans do not know, such as his taste for balearic disco, obsession with 1980s TV star ALF or slightly questionable relations with Thurman Munson in late 1979. One of our favorites though, has Mr. Henderson standing completely naked in front of a locker room mirror before every game and saying, “Ricky’s the best! Rickey's the best!” over and over for several minutes right before taking the field.

This is exactly the way that PersonPeople approached making this deeply hyperbolic mix, only without the field. We hope that it continues 'The Man of Steal's' legacy and erases any hint of doubt that may have existed. Don't hate the player or the game. Rickey wouldn't want it that way. And Rickey knows what Rickey wants. But this is PersonPeople calling on behalf of Rickey and Rickey wants to play music.

Do we as the group have the needs of the individual in mind? Are we as a species sensitive to the singular? If not, is there a way to train ourselves together as a phyla to behave this way?? Is there no one left but us???

Leading scientists have recently discovered the part of the brain that determines whether or not we are "Person People." In a new study, cranial expert Dr. Jonathan Coleman (Louisiana State University Mental Health Research) reveals that "Cultures that become classified as Person People all seem to share a specific part of the brain that other cultures simply do not possess."

In a lengthy, multi-year, multi-disclipinary, multi-track study whose findings will be revealed on Tuesday, Coleman collaborated with Dr. Christopher Tarantino, the head of E.B.S. (Experimental Brain Science) at the University of New Jersey. Tarantino asserts, "through sonic muscle memory, an extra domain between the occipital and the parietal lobe can be physically willed into existence." Certain types of binaural waves can also aid in the creation of this area. Coleman & Tarantino traced the highest frequency of these waves to a plot of land in Omara, New Zealand where an ancient amphitheater once stood.

Today, an open air market stands on this spot and people that shop there seem to have no idea how lucky they are. This subatomic field recording by the doctorses is the closest we will get to understanding these cultures & how they once lived. back again (you're welcome) with an oldie but goodie; just like me. kids did you know that mr. chaff is over 275 years old? remember vaudeville? or the black plague?? yeah, that was me. oh & that internet too. this blog is actually 116 years old, but in a form that carbon based humans other than me had the capacity to read, only about two-ish. way back when, i was tweeting where all the freshest meat was, only none of those hunters & gatherers had twitter yet. morons. that's why i'm fat as fuck & they're dead. anyway, i tend to enjoy LOTP more in remixed form & this is the best example of that. while their set at coachella was timed to perfection (late aft nu-rave, anyone?) & a superior show overall, their recent SXSW set on the directv stage (wtf???) was rife with tech problems & less than stellar, it did contain the best ending to a show that i've EVER seen. groups of grim reapers dragged each band member offstage kicking & screaming, one at a time as their feedback droned. it may sound gay now, but it was awesome at the time. my friend agreed with me too & he's smart. like, really smart.

he first synthesized the drug in '38, but thought it was a dud til he brought it back out in '43 & accidentally absorbed some shit thru his fingertips, ended up eating his entire microscope & realized that he may be onto something. he documented it all in LSD: my problem child & championed the drug as "medicine for the soul".

so, its offish. we can finally reveal that the WMS will be hosting the official KILLS afterparty for their stopover in the greater los angeles area on 5/21. they are playing the el rey. so we are playing the el rey, right after them. so, in effect, they are opening up for us. suckers! no, but seriously folks, we are extremely happy to be part of the tour supporting the very excellent MIDNIGHT BOOM album. nyc's CHILD BALLADS are opening up & they're pretty nice too.

I have not posted in a long time. I'd like to use the excuse that I've been so consumed with work and crazy shit that I haven't had the time to contribute recently. Unfortunately, that's not the case. I was in bed for two weeks straight. One disgustingly rainy Saturday, I was at Trader Joe's buying chicken broth & biodegradable John Wayne Gacy pomegranate all purpose cleaning soda, and I bumped into my old chum from the dorms Kurt 'I'll park where I wanna park' Loder. We embraced & said things like 'It's been a while' and 'How are you?' Turns out Kurt isn't that good. He's more-or-less homeless, surviving off pawned memoribilia like Yo! MTV Raps gummi snacks and Debbie Gibson flavored 45 adapters.

I know, right!?

Even worse, he came down with the chicken pox. Of course, I offered to let him take an oatmeal bath at my place. I'm there like that for my friends. We eventually ended up sharing a dreary Winter afternoon together in a warm plasmic goo, trading songs [old & new]. Below are morsels of the conversation.

after some hard researching (Google, 6.3 seconds later), i realized he was the blogger equivalent of howard stern. he's written a book, gone on tour for it, has a sirius radio show & has the requisite rabid weirdo/nerdo fanbase, which quickly obliterated my idea of discovering some diamond in the rough in a dark corner of the interweb. the homemade graphics are as sarcastic as the writing, so obviously he is a true WMS brother. imagine david sedaris with a huge chip on his shoulder & zero sense of optimism & you're close.so.....after sending him an apology email for the first email & realizing that maybe i was the last one onboard, i thought i would share it with you, b/c hey, maybe you're the last one onboard. ah ha.

just finished the roky erickson doc YOU'RE GONNA MISS ME & it's amazing. real slow & thoughtful & obviously done by a a very musically passionsate filmmaker. had a passing knowledge of him goin in ("before-his-time genius gone bat-shit-mad"), but that didnt even begin to tell his story. tragic in a DEVIL & DANIEL JOHNSTON kinda way, which is always kinda depressing but earns its inspiring ending. the extra features also catch us up to present day & his recent coachella appearance.

all i kept thinking was what a great movie it would make until i realized, that it already was. documentary can just be a dirty word sometimes like "foreign" & "not in color". so here goes. take it from quato & 'open yr mind' you quaids.

here @ the WMS we are not just about sonically BASHing yr face in (although we like most anything that fits that description), we are also about sonically making love to yr face (which is just as good, if not better - ed.). right now we'd like to give you a lil bit of the latter, just b/c we haven't in awhile.
