Lucy Rose is our latest crush from the UK. Even Vogue magazine is waxing poetic about her, and can you blame them?

She reminds me of Joni Mitchell…her voice…or maybe it’s her lovely hair? Regardless, you should check out her music here.

Is there anything better than ice cream on a freezing cold day in Denver Colorado? The answer is….no, negative, ce n’est pas possible, nothing is better. And that’s why we decided to take Wild Ones to Sweet Action Ice Cream. On a side note: I would like to apologize for asking to sample 10 of the 20 flavors Sweet Action offered that day, but I have trouble making quick decisions. For the record I went with Lemon Poppyseed Ice Cream, delicious.

Wild Ones are a lovely band from Portland that caught my attention last year. We met up with them during their BEST FRIENDS TOUR with Typhoon and Youth (also lovely bands from Portland!)

“Honey Bunny” is the most upbeat and buoyant track off of the new Girls record Father, Son, Holy Ghost. And despite the self deprecating lyrics, this song is a danceable feast, don’t you agree? I wonder what lead singer Christopher Owens is doing for the holidays. Do you think he’ll make a nice holiday ham and read Christmas stories to his nieces and nephews?

We shot this dance card about 2 months ago, before the snow crept in and took over the city. It’s shot right outside the Performing Arts Center in Denver. Is it just me or is the grass ridiculously green. How many tickets to the LION KING musical did they have to sell to pay for that pristine lawn?

We’ve had so much fun over the last couple of months interviewing new bands, going to shows and staging dance parties in random and sometimes sketchy areas of Denver….so we thought it was time to make another trailer to help spread the word about The Window Seat. We’ve also taken your advice and switched the website to be more reader friendly, and not as confusing. It’s a very simple site, and we are continuing to work on it and make it better. Any feedback is much appreciated, so email us or tweet us!

More than anything, we just want to thank everybody who’s been spreading the word and helping us with all the elements that go into a web series. The bands, the labels, the venues and all of our friends–you guys have made The Window Seat possible! So thank you.

We hope 2012 brings many more fun interviews, segments and dance parties.

I remember the first time I heard Mates of State. They were one of those bands that I fell for immediately. I could sing (horribly) along with them at the top of my lungs. I could put their songs on mixtapes for friends, family and crushes. They are like the ultimate mixtape band, they manage to find a way to appear on the all of my greatest mixtape masterpieces. Mates of State have given thousands of people (including me) a chance to tell someone via mixtape: “I like you crazy” or “It’s not the same without you and I” or “What are your weaknesses? I won’t pass you by.”

Despite the lyrics I just mentioned, Mates of State are more than just sweet pop songs, in fact their performances have more fight and energy than a mosh pit at a Mastodan concert. What’s even cooler, is that Kori and Jason are some of the kindest, most down to earth people we’ve met since starting The Window Seat.

Very excited that Weekend’s debut Record is out this month. You can buy it online, listen to it on Spotify or be legit and buy the LP from Slumberland Records.

This noise rock trio reminds me of early Jesus and Mary Chain, Psychocandy mixed with My Bloody Valentine and Joy Division. It’s somehow romantic but completely bleak, kind of like the month of November. Like that Sunday in November when you were bored and walked to the Science Building to dance it out and then head home to make apple cider.

Ben l’Oncle Soul is a French soul singer. That’s right: French. Soul. Singer. Hello!!! (Insert swoons from the ladies around the world here.) If you like retro soul and funk with a modern feel, check out his debut record! Every song is a gem, and sometimes the record will play on repeat 5 times before I decide to switch to something else. The record is only available as an import cd right now (super $$$), but you can listen to the album and his first EP on Spotify.

Ben L’Oncle Soul (real name Benjamin Duterde) got his start singing in the Fitiavana Gospel Choir, his work with the Gospel choir led him to a solo recording deal with the French division of Motown Records. He released the Soul Wash EP in 2009 and then 6 months later he made his full-length debut with the the self titled Ben l’Oncle Soul. His first single off the debut record is a cover of the White Stripes classic, Seven Nation Army.

Who do I speak to about putting together a tour with Jamie Lidell and Ben L’Oncle Soul? That would be a dream come true, right?

Best part of the Charles Bradley concert….after his final song he walks offstage and into the crowd and begins to hug audience members. The audience hugs lasted for a good 20 minutes, I kid you not. If you get a chance to see Charles and the Menahan Street Band, go!

Summer Camp is made up of Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey. They started making music together in October of 2009 just to fill the time. Thank goodness these 2 ridiculously cool people were both bored at the same time AND loved the same music and movies from the 80′s. Their EP, Young, was one of my favorites last year, and I can’t wait for their new album Welcome to Condale to drop in the states. Oh and please notice that I wrote the word “drop” instead of “released” because I am so down with the terminology of the biz…wait, what?

According to the band, Welcome to Condale is “Our love letter to the days of being a teenager, when everything is so Important, and you’re transformed irrevocably by a miserable relationship with a spotty youth called Darren who works at Pizza Hut. We believe that you never really escape that time, for better or for worse. It’s the things you fall in love with then that will stay with you forever. Well, except Darren. Hopefully.” How do you not love these guys?!!

It’s only a matter of time before all of these perfectly sweet little ditties from Rosie and Me are featured on TV shows like One Tree Gossip Girl Hill and Dawson’s Vampire Creek Diaries. For me, their music is a perfect soundtrack to the falling leaves and subtle chill in the air this morning. Like it or not, summer is over and the fall has arrived. Time to start planning your fall mixtapes and more importantly your Halloween costumes! What are you going to dress up as this year??

This jam by The Vaccines is summer 2011– hence Christy’s killer tan in the video…kidding. She hasn’t had a tan since the 9th grade (when she discovered The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees).

This Dance Card was shot at one of our favorite spots in Denver, The Empire Building. The artwork on the garage door was done by Dave Choe and Sam Flores who visited Denver in 2008 for the Democratic National Convention. Pretty cool right?

And The Vaccines…infectious pop songs that clock in at around 2 minutes a song. Their music is good for dancing, driving the getaway car, cleaning the mansion, roughing up the bad guys, dancing and more dancing. The Vaccines did a show with the Arctic Monkeys in May, and although they were the openers, we believe these young lads stole the show. Their debut record What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? is out now.

Today would have been Buddy Holly’s 75th Birthday. In honor of his 75th birthday, here is a Standby on an excellent covers record that just came out. The originals are better, but its really great to hear a BLACK KEYS or SHE AND HIM interpretation of a Buddy Holly classic. Still one of the most influential rockers of all time. The Antlers new record, Burst Apart, is one of my favorite records of 2011! I wasn’t sure I would like their new record as much as I liked their last record, but I was wrong. Equally good, very different, but equally good. Please be sure to listen/buy the song Rolled Together….what a beautious track. What are you waiting for? Go listen to it on the Internets!!

Umm…serious summer 2011 theme song potential anyone? I know what you’re thinking, “But Christy what about that killer Nicki Minaj song Super Bass?” TO that I say,

Both songs have potential for Summer Song 2011. My advice would be to have Nicki Minaj and Givers record a summer mashup called Super Bass goes Up Up Up. Right?????

And everyone who had the original album with the naked lady’s behind was sooo much cooler. Do you remember that?

Who doesn’t like blueberry cobbler, WHO I ask you? This is a recipe from John Vanderslice, we found this recipe in our friend Kara Zuaro’s book. One time I brought John Vanderslice brownies on tour, and he loved them so much he gave me free tickets to the show! He mentioned something about venues being cold, dingy places that could benefit from music fans bringing more home baked goods to concerts. So next time you have a ticket to see Uncle John Vanderslice bring him a  baked treat!

We ate this whole blueberry cobbler in 1 day. There may have been some licking of the pan…just saying. Don’t judge me.

I actually was listening to an LCD Soundsystem song during this dance, but then I found this Datarock cd in a box of old things and I had to send this song to Megan. I remember seeing this Norwegian electro rock band play years ago, and it was such a fun show! Data Rock where are you now? Make a new record and come to the US of A on tour!

UPDDATE: Guess what I just Googled them and they had a new record come out in March. Very exciting! Or as my Norwegian friends would say, veldig spennende!

These guys have been around for awhile, and their 3rd album, CIVILIAN,  sees them reaching a new maturity in their sound and lyrics. Download the title track of the new record here.

I also am obsessed with this live performance they did on a rooftop in Amsterdam. Oh to be part of an impossibly cool indie folk rock duo like Wye Oak….and sigh.

This red building is right by my house. It used to be a bar, but they closed it down because I think there was a shoot out. It was one of those bars where every night at 1am, like clockwork, the cops would show up due to a brawl or drug bust. Thats the Window Seat girls for you…living dangerously. Shooting in the sketchiest of locations for the greater good of dance moves and music.

Mates of State are like my kid brother, I will always defend them and punch out anyone who talks badly about them. In other words, I will stand by this band until the end of time. They have a new record coming out in September, and I’ve already set an iPhone alert to buy the record at midnight!

This is a record I go back to time and time again. A lot of Neil Young fans criticize this record for being to soft and too commercial, but I’m no Neil Young expert, I just remember listening to these songs as a kid and loving them.

To stay up to date with Neil Young visit his garage. I saw him in concert a couple of years ago and I was the only person there that was born in the 80′s. I was also the only person not smoking pot….oh to be young and uncool.

Is it just me or does this band sound like it should have come out in 2001? Critics be damned, I like the freelance whales! They might be 10 years late to the party, but at least they brought nightcaps!

Judah Dadone formed the freelance whales in 2008 by placing an ad on Craigslist.  He spent several months interviewing musicians all over the city, until he found the perfect people. And instead of playing shows in venues, the freelance whales worked on their sound by performing on the street corners of New York City, just to play in front of people and see what their reaction would be. Turns out the reaction was good, and after self releasing their debt record they were snatched up by indie darling label Frenchkiss Records.
