When the Los Angeles Lakers drafted Bronny James with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, many saw it as nepotism. After all, he didn’t exactly light it up during his one season with USC, averaging 4.8 points per game and shooting just 36.7% from the field.

However, his dad is LeBron James, so it seemed pretty apparent to everyone but Nike and Lakers coach J.J. Reddick that his selection by Los Angeles in the draft was a favor to the team’s superstar.

After signing a $7.9 million, four-year contract, Bronny James played 27 games for the Lakers in his rookie season, averaging 2.3 points and 6.7 minutes per game. During his second season, Bronny averaged 2.9 points in an average of 8.9 minutes over 42 games.

Naturally, Bronny James’ father will always have his back, even if what he says to defend him seems to be utter nonsense.

Such was the case this week during an interview LeBron James gave Time magazine as part of their 2026 “100 most influential people in sports” list.

“Out of all the s— I’ve done in basketball, that’s the best accomplishment I’ve ever had,” LeBron James said about he and Bronny becoming the first father and son to assist each other on baskets.

“The kid has earned his right to be a professional athlete,” LeBron said. “The thing you’re not going to do is throw stones at us as a family. I’m not letting that sh— slide, because I know what I’ve created because of what I didn’t have.

“So if you want to talk about the kid, that he shouldn’t be an NBA player, I don’t care about that. As long as you don’t get to the fatherhood piece. I don’t play those games.”

After months of speculation, wide receiver AJ Brown is no longer a member of the Philadelphia Eagles after being traded to the New England Patriots. Eagles fans largely seem to be glad that they’re rid of him.

Based on all the reporting, AJ Brown seemingly spent months if not years trying to force his way out of Philly. Before he left, though, he made sure to leave one final reminder of his diva attitude that’s made him one of the more mercurial skill players in the NFL.

“He may actually be mentally unstable. It’s always about him,” a second declared.

“AJ might be the best ever at destroying his Eagles legacy with the fans lmao. Man went from beloved to public enemy number 1,” a third summarized.

“Hopefully the team rips the photo off the wall and lets the fans piss on it at the home opener,” a fourth hoped.

The Eagles officially traded Brown to the New England Patriots on June 1 in exchange for New England’s 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-rounder.

In four seasons with the Eagles, Brown has had 339 catches for 5,034 yards and 32 touchdowns in 62 games, and helped the team win the Super Bowl during the 2024 season.

Matt Ponatoski has a decision to make. The four-star quarterback prospect is committed to play college football at Kentucky but he really wants to play baseball with the MiLB and, eventually, MLB.

His (potential) future head coach in Lexington is telling him to follow his heart.

Only time will tell whether he ever plays college football or if he decides to chase his dreams on the diamond. That is a decision for next month.

Who is Matt Ponatoski?

At 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, Ponatoski rated as one of the top 15 quarterbacks in the recruiting Class of 2026. He ranks as the No. 13 player at his position, the No. 218 player in his class and the No. 10 player in the state of Ohio out of Archbishop Moeller.

There may not be a more talented athlete in the Buckeye State.

Matt Ponatoski burst onto the scene in 2024 by completing 69.4% of his passes for 4,217 yards with 57 touchdowns and just three interceptions. The Fighting Crusaders went 14-2 and finished as the state runners-up. Their quarterback was named as the Ohio Mr. Football, Gatorade Ohio Player of the Year and MxxPreps Ohio Player of the Year.

He was also named as the Gatorade Ohio Player of the Year in baseball that same season. Ponatoski, an infielder and right-handed pitcher, hit .429 with 29 RBIs and 10 stolen bases as a junior.

Needless to say, the two-way star could go in either direction— football or baseball. Ponatoski committed to play both sports at the University of Kentucky.

His impressive showing at the Elite 11 made the Wildcats even more excited to get him on campus. First-year head coach Will Stein would love to mold him into his quarterback of the future.

However, Ponatoski may not ever play football again. He might not ever play a single snap in Lexington.

Will he play college football at Kentucky or pursue Major League Baseball?

The Kentucky football program began its summer workouts over the weekend. Matt Ponatoski was not there. He is a busy.

Archbishop Moeller made the Final Four for high school baseball. The Fighting Crusaders will play for an Ohio state championship on the Division I level of competition as the No. 4 seed. Their semifinal game against No. 10 Perrysburg is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The championship game would then be played over the weekend.

Ponatoski skipped out on the Wildcats’ workouts because he was throwing a combined two-hit shutout to sent his team to state.

Stein completely understands. In fact, the head football coach at Kentucky actually encouraged his 4-star quarterback to pursue baseball.

“Coach Stein told me if you get the number you want in baseball and you don’t go, you’re stupid.”

The 2026 MLB Draft is scheduled for July 12-13. Ponatoski told the Overs-Slot podcast that he would prefer to play professional baseball than to play college football.

“I think people who don’t talk to me face to face might get an idea that I want to go play college football. I do, but that’s option 1B. Option 1A is to go be a (MLB) draft pick and go get drafted and go be in an organization at 18 rather than go to college and be in an organization at 21, which is not a bad option either. I want to be drafted. That’s 1A for sure.”

I don’t know whether Ponatoski will spend any time in Lexington between now and July 12. Maybe he will get down there for workouts before the MLB Draft and decide from there. Maybe he will wait until after the draft to make his move if he doesn’t get picked as high as he had hoped. That isn’t the priority at the moment.

Most NBA teams that make it to the playoffs get there with the help of a star player who leads the charge, and they’ll usually have a hard time advancing if they’re not able to pick up where they left off when the postseason rolls around.

No NBA players have scored more points in a single postseason run than these guys

Winning an NBA title obviously requires a team effort, but it never hurts to have a superstar who becomes an absolute scoring machine when it matters most.

The official start of the playoffs is right around the corner, so I figured there was no better time to take a look back at the players who’ve managed to score the most points over the course of a single postseason run.

There are a few basketball legends who’ve gone off in the postseason multiple times, and they’ll be making multiple appearances on this list.

Michael Jordan: 759 Points (1992)

Michael Jordan led the Bulls to six titles during his time in Chicago, and no player in NBA history has scored more points in the playoffs than His Airness did while leading the team to its second championship in 1992.

M.J. kicked things off with a bang with 46 points in the first game of the first round series with the Heat (which ended up being a three-game sweep) and matched that total to help the Bulls take a 3-2 lead over the Trail Blazers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals (they clinched the trophy in the next contest).

Jordan ended up averaging 34.1 points per game, and you won’t be shocked to learn this isn’t the last time we’ll be discussing him.

LeBron James: 748 Points (2018)

LeBron James firmly holds the record for the most career playoff points in NBA history; he has 8,162 heading into this year’s postseason, while Jordan is in a distant second with 5,987.

The Cavaliers made it to the NBA Finals four years in a row after LeBron returned to Cleveland in 2014 but only walked away with a single title in 2016 thanks to the Warriors dynasty.

James did what he could to end his second stint with the Cavs on a high note, as he averaged exactly 34 points per game during an unreal run that ended with Cleveland being swept by Golden State (his 51 points in the first game of that series were the most he scored in the playoffs that year).

As was the case with Jordan, this isn’t the last time we’ll be talking about LeBron.

Kawhi Leonard: 732 Points (2019)

The Warriors were hoping to pull off the threepeat after reaching the NBA Finals for the fifth consecutive time in 2019, but the Raptors spoiled those plans thanks in no small part to Kawhi Leonard.

Toronto’s primary weapon peaked with the 41 points he scored with the help of the buzzer-beater that propelled the Raptors to the Eastern Conference Finals after Leonard emerged as the hero in Game 7 of their series.

He ended up averaging 30.5 points during the 24 games the Raptors needed to secure the first championship in franchise history.

Hakeem Olajuwon: 725 Points (1995)

Hakeem Olajuwon is the best player to ever don a Rockets uniform, and he was the main reason they won back-to-back titles starting in 1994.

He had 664 points in that initial run (good for the 12th most of all time) but outdid himself in 1995 to earn the fourth spot on this list.

The Dream wasn’t able to top the 45 points he put up against the Jazz in the very first game of a playoff run where Houston played 22 games en route to winning the title, and he averaged nearly 33 points by the time they secured the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the second year in a row.

Allen Iverson: 723 Points (2001)

Allen Iverson was the main reason the 76ers were able to snap a seven-year playoff drought after they drafted him, and while he was never able to win a title during his time in the NBA, he did everything he could to check that box in 2001.

A.I. arguably peaked during the season where he earned his first and only MVP award while leading the 76ers to the NBA Finals before losing to the Lakers in a gentleman’s sweep.

Iverson was the star of the show for Philadelphia during a run that saw him average 32.9 points per game and explode for a playoff-high 54 points against the Raptors in the second round a couple of games before he dropped 52 against them.

Shaquille O’Neal: 707 Points (2000)

You might think Kobe Bryant would be ahead of Shaquille O’Neal on this list (we’ll be getting to him in a second), and the fact that he’s not highlights why The Big Diesel is one of the most dominant big men to ever do it.

The Lakers welcomed the start of the new millennium by kicking off the threepeat they’d complete against Iverson and the 76ers, and while Kobe certainly contributed to the cause with 465 points, L.A.’s offense firmly ran through Shaq that year.

Superman delivered a heroic performance and set the tone early by scoring 46 points in Game 1 of his squad’s first-round showdown with the Kings.

He put up at least 40 on four other occasions (including three times in the NBA Finals against the Pacers) and ended up averaging 30.7 points.

LeBron James: 697 Points (2012)

He’s baaaaaack!!!

The Heat also made it to the NBA Finals four years in a row after LeBron took his talents to South Beach in 2010, and his best playoff performance in Miami came during the first of two back-to-back title runs in 2012.

The Knicks were the only team who were able to hold him to less than 20 points (New York still lost the first-round series in five games), and LeBron peaked with a 45-point performance against the Celtics in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

They ended up beating the Thunder in five games to win the championship and cap off a postseason stretch where that year’s MVP and Finals MVP averaged 30.3 points.

Kobe Bryant: 695 Points (2009)

There he is!

2009 marked the first time Kobe Bryant and the Lakers won a championship since Shaq’s departure five years prior, and he stepped up his game after the team came up short against the Celtics the previous season.

Bryant scored a playoff-high 40 points three times in all three series after the first round and ultimately averaged 30.2 per game before earning his fourth title after the Lakers dispatched the Magic in five games.

Michael Jordan: 680 Points (1998)

I told you we weren’t done talking about Jordan, and that will still be the case after we discuss what he did during his “Last Dance” with the Bulls in 1998.

Chicago made fairly quick work of the Nets and the Hornets before the Pacers pushed the Eastern Conference Finals to seven games, but the Bulls ultimately prevailed to earn the right to face off against the Jazz to cap off the second threepeat of The Jordan Era.

It’s only natural that he waited until the final game of the series to outdo all of his previous performances with 45 points, which put an exclamation point on a run where he averaged 32.4.

Kobe Bryant: 671 Points (2010)

Kobe took a slight step back in 2010 compared to how he played in the postseason the previous year, but it was still more than enough to win what would end up being his fifth and final championship.

Bryant had a couple of uncharacteristically quiet games against the Thunder in the first round but bounced back as the playoffs progressed and hit his apex with the 40 he dropped on the Suns in the first game of the Western Conference Finals.

He’s the only person on this list to average less than 30 (he ended up at 29.2 points per game), but it was still more than enough to lead the Lakers to a win over the Celtics in the Finals.

Michael Jordan: 666 Points (1993)

We’re going to wrap things up with one more appearance from Jordan, who had a… devilishly good showing during the playoffs in 1993 (sorry, I couldn’t resist).

This run marked the end of his initial threepeat in Chicago, and he would have ended up higher here if the Bulls hadn’t needed just 19 games to seal the deal (the shortest of any run on this list).

Jordan exploded for 54 points against the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals before outdoing himself with 55 in Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Suns, and actually has the highest average of any player we’ve mentioned so far with just around 35 points per game.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ 2024 Minor League Pitcher of the Year, Ryan Jennings, made a very surprising announcement this week. He is retiring from baseball at 26-years-old, on the cusp of making the big leagues.

After attending Louisiana Tech University for two years, the Blue Jays selected Jennings in the fourth round of the 2022 MLB Draft. Before choosing to retire, he had reached Triple-A within the Toronto Blue Jays’ Minor League system. In 2025, he was the Blue Jays’ 22nd-ranked prospect.

The right-hander had his best season in 2024, winning Minor League Pitcher of the Year with the squad. Prior to the Blue Jays elevating him to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Double-A, the right-hander started in High-A with the Vancouver Canadians. He finished the season with a 1.93 ERA in 21 games, including 12 starts, between the two levels. Jennings posted a 0.90 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, picked up two saves, and held opposing teams to a .135 batting average against in Double-A.

On May 16, 2025, the Blue Jays promoted Ryan Jennings to Triple-A Buffalo, where he struck out 54 batters in just 36 innings, but struggled with his control.

Jennings was one of 27 non-roster invitees to Spring Training this year, along with many other top prospects in the Blue Jays’ system. According to Jays Centre, he was one of the young players “who could impact the big league team.” The organization optioned Jennings to Triple-A Buffalo on March 27, 2026, and he began the season on the 7-day disabled list after making two appearances with the Blue Jays during spring training.

On Monday, Jennings announced on his Instagram account that, after toiling for five seasons in the Minor Leagues and being so close to making the Major Leagues, where the minimum guaranteed salary is $780,000, he had retired from baseball.

He finishes his professional baseball career with a record of 7-13 with a 3.07 ERA and 1.37 WHIP and 213 strikeouts over 170 innings in 83 games.

“A few weeks ago I decided to retire from the game of baseball,” he wrote. “What an unbelievable blessing this journey was! From championships to call-ups and everything I between I can’t explain how grateful I am to have gotten this opportunity.

“The relationships I built through this game I will cherish for the rest of my life. People who pushed me to be better both physically and in my walk with Christ. Reignigting [sic] my faith was the single most important moment through this entire journey. What a blessing it was!

“Lastly thank you to my unbelievably supportive wife who has been along for the ride since Varisty [sic] high school baseball back in 2016! She has done more for me than I can begin to explain and I am grateful for her each day.

“This next chapter holds a lot to be seen and we are really excited for what’s next! Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way and mostly thank you God for this great blessing!”

LIV Golf has four events left on the schedule during what could be its final season, but there’s growing speculation it may run out of money before they’re all played. The league’s CEO didn’t do much to quell those concerns, as he strangely attempted to court investors while refusing to answer a question about whether or not the league will be able to survive until the end of August.

Greg Norman was tapped to serve as the CEO of LIV Golf as it was gearing up to go toe-to-toe with the PGA Tour before kicking off its inaugural season in 2022. However, there weren’t many bright spots to point to when his tenure officially came to an end at the start of 2025 with the changing of the guard that led to him being replaced by Scott O’Neil.

O’Neil previously served as the president of the holding company that oversees the Knicks and the Rangers before stepping into similar executive roles for the 76ers and the Devils. It was hard to envy the situation he inherited when he came aboard, and he has not exactly managed to stage a drastic turnaround since taking the reins around a year and a half ago.

As was the case with the players who are affiliated with the organization, O’Neil was under the impression that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund had committed to LIV Golf until 2032. However, in April, the league’s biggest backers reverse course by revealing their plan to turn off the spigot at the end of the 2026 season.

O’Nel has spent the past couple of months scrambling to slap together a contingency plan that hinges on his ability to find investors willing to contribute to the nine-figure sum LIV Golf says it needs to survive without the assistance of the PIF, and he’s doing everything in his power to court them while staring down the barrel of an existential crisis.

As things currently stand, LIV Golf has four tournaments planned until its season wraps up with the team championship in Michigan in August. However, insiders are reportedly growing increasingly pessimistic when it comes to whether or not they’ll actually be played, as it seems like the PIF could decide to cut its losses and prematurely pull the plug.

O’Neil has had to grapple with those worries while simultaneously working on a contingency plan in an attempt to keep LIV Golf running without the support of the Saudis, one that will require the league to raise between $150 million and $250 million in order to stay afloat.

It’s hard to blame him for shooting his shot at potential investors when he appeared on CNBC’s Halftime Report on Tuesday, although he did so while ignoring a question about whether or not LIV Golf will play out the remainder of the schedule by responding, “What I can guarantee is a heck of a return if you come invest in this business.”

Even after their loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the New York Knicks are just two wins away from their first championship in over 50 years.

So it’s easy to understand why Knicks fans are pretty fired up. However, on multiple occasions during their current playoff run, Knicks fans have seemingly stepped over the line from joy to dangerous violence.

The first incident came after Game 1 of the second round against the Philadelphia 76ers, when Knicks fans swarmed former player J.R. Smith, knocking him to the ground.

“When I came out the Garden, my hotel was to the left, and I looked to the right and the big a– mob was right there,” Smith said of the incident. “I was just like, Man, I’m one with the people, so I’m like, Let’s see what this [is] about.

“As I’m walking over there, the closer I get, I keep realizing everybody’s noticing that I’m coming over there. So, every step I take, they’re getting louder. It’s getting loud. As I get closer, I’m like, Yeah, this probably [is] not as good [as I thought]. No bulls—, dog, as I’m thinking that s—, somebody 20 feet in front of me falls. And then that s— was a domino effect. It was inevitable.”

The latest incident, however, was even more egregious.

Multiple videos from outside of Madison Square Garden on Monday night show large groups of Knicks fans surrounding and then attacking San Antonio Spurs fans.

In the first video, a group of New York fans sees a man walking away while wearing a Spurs jersey. They then appear to chase the man down and rip the jersey off his back while he attempts to flee.

“This is absolute bulls—,” one poster on X said of the incident. “If this is how Knicks’ fans are going to handle losing, they don’t deserve to win. Hopefully, this was just an isolated incident.”

However, in a separate incident, an older gentleman wearing a Tim Duncan jersey attempts to evade a large crowd of Knicks fans, who then chase him down and harass him before he appears to escape.

“My favorite part (tongue in cheek) is that basically a ton of these people were like ‘I should film these guys attacking people for liking the other team.’ I mean, sure, but to do what?” asked another X user.

Ultimately, fan violence is not unique to any one city. But the atmosphere outside of Madison Square Garden is clearly extremely unsafe for visiting fans.

Kevin Schnall will be the next head baseball coach at the University of South Carolina. He is leaving his post at Coastal Carolina after two seasons at the helm.

The move was not necessarily a surprise as Schnall was believed to be the most likely option for the Gamecocks. His lack of transparency, however, created extremely poor optics.

Did he know he was leaving while communicating a desire to remain with the Chanticleers? The timeline of coaching search suggest he was not lying to his employer.

Kevin Schnall is a Gamecock.

Schnall is a graduate of Coastal Carolina. He played catcher for the Chants from 1995-1999. He then spent years on staff as an assistant before landing the head coaching gig.

Schnall took the program to the College World Series finals in his debut season. Last year, the team made a regional before losing in Tallahassee.

Speculation on his future overshadowed much of the 2026 campaign.

South Carolina fired coach Paul Mainieri in March. Schnall’s name was immediately connected to the opening. The Gamecocks did not make the NCAA Tournament field. Instead, it began conducting a coaching search.

Kevin Schnall was a top target, though there were other candidates involved. After Coastal Carolina’s season ended, he had the following to say on his future.

Schnall referenced his five-year contract with the university. He had recently signed an extension to stay in Conway through 2031.

He then rattled off a laundry list of accomplishments from his time on staff. It was largely coach speak, which is to be expected.

Schnall’s name continued to stay atop the Gamecocks’ search board despite that denial. He reportedly spoke with the Gamecocks about the opening last Wednesday and Thursday.

All the while, he continued to reiterate his vision for the future with the Chanticleers.

It painted a poor picture after his decision to leave just five days later. But was Schnall lying?

Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball says no. The process was not cut and dry. South Carolina was gauging other candidates’ interest. A timeline of the search vindicates Schnall as he’s vilified by his former fanbase.

Schnall was always high on South Carolina’s list. That is not news. Still, the Gamecocks chased after a pair of notable coaches that were still competing in the NCAA Tournament.

Scott Forbes of North Carolina was a target, as was Steve Sabins of West Virginia. Had their seasons ended in the super regional round, conversations about the South Carolina job may have continued.

Instead, both punched tickets to Omaha over the weekend. The Gamecocks chose not to wait out the rest of the postseason. It put the full court press on Kevin Schnall, who accepted on June 9th.

If South Carolina was truly pursuing Forbes and Sabins, there’s no way Schnall could’ve known he’d be the guy during his recent discussions with administration. He had no choice but to continue operating business as usual with the Chanticleers.

Given the timing of his conversations with Coastal Carolina and subsequent acceptance of the South Carolina job, the optics are bad. The timeline of events, however, should quiet any rumors of duplicity.

It’s pretty hard to drive through Stamford, Connecticut without noticing the building that serves as the headquarters for the WWE. It features a massive American flag waving from its roof, and it was blamed for a power outage that left thousands of people in the dark while causing some headaches for commuters earlier this week.

The WWE has a history that can be traced back to the 1950s, which is when the McMahon family launched the promotion known as the “Capitol Wrestling Corporation.” In 1979, Vince McMahon Jr. became the owner of the company that was rebranded as the “World Wrestling Federation,” which he initially operated out of Cape Cod before eventually setting up shop in the building dubbed Titan Towers in Stamford, Connecticut in 1991.

That served as the HQ for the organization for over three decades before it relocated to its current location, a building located just a couple of miles south on 1-95, in 2023. It’s difficult to miss if you’re making your way down that highway, as it’s plastered with multiple versions of the WWE logo along with an attention-grabbing American flag that created an issue during a recent storm.

In 2023, the WWE celebrated the debut of what it described as “one of the largest American flags in the country,” a version of the stars and stripes that measures in at 76 feet across and 40 feet tall that was hoisted above its HQ for Veterans’ Day.

It was flying there when a storm system swept across western Connecticut on Saturday night, but it was ripped from the pole before landing in some power lines that were captured sparking after it got snagged in a transmission tower.

According to The New York Times, 5,000 people in Stamford and Greenwich initially lost power, but another 40,000 in the area were impacted when it struck more lines as workers were attempting to remove it on Sunday.

It also impacted train service at the Stamford station where Amtrak and Metro-North operate, as customers had to deal with delays stemming from an issue that was fully addressed by the end of the weekend.

President Donald Trump played right into Stephen A. Smith’s hands by giving him an opportunity to make a storyline about himself. After Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday night, Trump essentially called the First Take host stupid by doubting his IQ.

The beef between the pair began prior to Game 3, when Stephen A. Smith ripped President Trump’s plans to attend the NBA Finals, making him the first sitting President to do so. Trump’s attendance led to fans having to wait in line for hours to enter the arena and squashed area foot traffic that would have served as a massive boon for local businesses.

“This president has no business showing up in New York City. I am dead serious. It is selfish. It is narcissistic. It is ridiculous that he is coming to this game,” Smith said. “If it causes the Knicks to lose tonight, I’m blaming him.”

Predictably, Smith responded to Trump on First Take on Tuesday morning by challenging him to a debate.

“You wanna talk about IQ, I could say I could put my IQ against yours, I got something even better I could ask you why you been running from me for the past year since I asked you to talk to me, I could ask you to debate me since you think you’re that dude. We could go a myriad of ways,” Smith said.

The Knicks loss to the Spurs on Monday night essentially cost them a chance at locking up the NBA title, as no NBA team has ever successfully come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a playoff series in league history (teams leading 3-0 in NBA playoffs are 159-0). Instead, they now lead the series 2-1 and have lost the momentum in the series to the San Antonio Spurs.

Kaitlyn Terry does not like Jordan Woolery. The college softball pitcher at Texas Tech did not hold back her thoughts on her former UCLA teammate.

She publicly bashed the Bruins slugger.

This latest college softball beef stems from a crucial moment at the Women’s College World Series. It is unclear as to whether there was an underlying tension between these two athletes prior to this past season.

Kaitlyn Terry played two seasons with Jordan Woolery.

Terry committed to UCLA out of Greenway High School in Glendale, Arizona. She was named as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2024 and selected to the All-Pac-12 First Team in her first season. The 5-foot-6 left-handed pitcher recorded a 2.38 ERA and 161 strikeouts in 182 innings pitched and led the Bruins with a 21-3 record. Her sophomore season was just as dominant.

Jordan Woolery was already on campus in Westwood when Kaitlyn Terry arrived. The California-native joined the Bruins in 2023 out of Clayton Valley Charter High School and was also named as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year that season. She later was named as the Big Ten Player of the Year and the Softball America National Player of the Year as a senior in 2026. The 5-foot-10 infielder started every single game for UCLA during her four-year career and hit .412 with 182 runs scored and 285 RBIs.

Needless to say, Terry and Woolery were a dominant duo on the same team in 2024 and 2025. UCLA went 95-19 during that stretch and won the conference in both seasons.

And then Terry transferred to Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders finished as the national runners-up in 2025 and 2026. The Bruins finished in fifth place at the Women’s College World Series in 2025 and sixth in 2026. Neither team won it all but Terry had more success than Woolery. I would be curious to know how far they could get together.

College softball beef!

Kaitlyn Terry pitched 149.1 innings for Texas Tech in 2026. She won 24 games with only three losses and recorded 172 strikeouts with an ERA of less than 2.00. Jordan Woolery hit .497 with 117 RBIs in 2026. She only struck out 12 times.

One of Woolery’s biggest hits of the season came off of Terry’ teammate, Nija Canady, in the Women’s College World Series.

The senior slugger stepped into the box with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. College softball only plays seven innings so she was down to her last out. There was one runner on base. UCLA trailed by two runs.

Woolery mashed a monster home run to tie the game. She held up her hands and looked back at the dugout in celebration before she rounded the bases.

Her behavior did not go over well with many college softball fans. They don’t like how she is always trying to keep the attention on herself. Her opponents did not appreciate it either. Terry reposted the above video on TikTok, which includes the caption: “nah cause there aint another college softball player i cant stand more.”

Kansas City was supposed to complete the construction of a new $25.8 million jail in time for the World Cup. It’s still not ready, and people are upset, for numerous reasons.

According to The Athletic, both the original proposal and the eventual legislation for the new jail in Kansas City stated “the expected surge of visitors for the upcoming World Cup may further strain the city’s limited rehabilitation and detention resources.”

Kansas City leaders frequently stated that they primarily intended the temporary jail complex, originally planned to be used for up to five years until a $151 million permanent site could be built, to accommodate the expected surge in World Cup visitors.

Since Kansas City hasn’t had a municipal jail since 2009, police patrol stations either detain offenders who violate the law or send them to jails in Johnson County or Vernon County, both of which are located more than 50 miles away.

City Manager Mario Vasquez, Assistant City Manager Jeff Martin, and Councilman Wes Rogers all made statements in the lead-up to the World Cup that the jail needed to be operational by the time the soccer tournament came to town.

“The World Cup’s coming whether we are ready for it or not, so we’ve got to get this built,” Rogers said at a city council meeting in July 2025.

The facility’s planners scheduled the 100-bed facility to open on June 1, fifteen days prior to Argentina’s match against Algeria in Kansas City. It’s still not ready, and it won’t be ready in time for the soccer tournament.

A representative for the city manager’s office informed The Athletic that the city would no longer keep detainees at the facility during the games. They said that the manufacturer’s supply timeline for certain parts has delayed the $25.8 million project, and the center is also running its staffing behind schedule.

City officials are now walking back their statements that they intended to use the new jail for the World Cup.

Councilman Rogers told The Athletic in the final week of May that it “really is maybe loosely tied to the World Cup, but this is stuff we had to do regardless.” He now describes the World Cup as a “footnote” in the broader story of Kansas City being “the biggest city in the country without a jail … and we need a jail.”

He acknowledges the local jail would be used for “low-level misdemeanor and ordinance violations, whereas a prison is for somebody committing a felony,” which means it would have been “nice to have it open” for the World Cup.

“They used the World Cup as an opportunity to get buy-in from the public,” said Dylan Pyles of Decarcerate KC. “If they had to use the World Cup as an excuse to get it going, then they’re fine with that. Most of the city was sold on the idea that it was for the World Cup. So it does now feel like a little bit of a waste of everyone’s money, time and energy.”

On Monday, hundreds of competitors took to the course in the hopes of punching their ticket to the U.S. Open during what is known as “Golf’s Longest Day.” Chase Kyes, a member of the golf team at the University of Tennessee, earned one of those qualifying spots, and he discovered he doesn’t have much time to prepare for the major during an interview he conducted after his round.

The U.S. Open is set to get underway at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club next Thursday, and as of Monday morning, 104 golfers had already secured their spot in the tournament. However, that number ballooned to close to 150 by the time the evening rolled around thanks to the qualifying events that were held across North America.

The major is referred to as an “open” for a reason, as the USGA conducts a number of events that give any golfer with a handicap of .4 or better the chance to compete alongside those who’ve earned an exemption for their play on the PGA Tour and other circuits.

They culminate with the gauntlet that is referred to as “Golf’s Longest Day,” as players are tasked with playing back-to-back 18-hole rounds in qualifiers while trying to snag one of the spots up for grabs.

On Monday, a grand total of 713 golfers (pros and amateurs alike) descended upon the 10 courses that hosted those qualifiers while vying for one of the 43 invites to the 2026 U.S. Open. University of Tennessee freshman Chase Kyes ended up clinching one of them, and he got some unexpected news while reflecting on his round with a reporter.

Kyes was the top-ranked golfer in the class of 2025 before he linked up with the team at the University of Tennessee. On Monday, Kyes headed down to Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Georgia for the U.S. Open qualifier that was held at the course. He was one of the five people who earned a spot when everything was said and done, as he followed up the 67 he shot in the morning with a 66 to finish at -11 (one stroke ahead of the two men who ended up as alternates at -10).

Kyes chatted with Golf Channel’s Ryan Lavner after the round, and he seemed to be under the impression he’d have more time than he actually does to prepare for what Shinnecock has to throw at him when you consider he said “I didn’t know it was next week” after being informed that was the case.

“We could still get 30 more minutes out of today.”

“I didn’t know it [the U.S. Open] was next week.”

Brendan Sorsby is eligible for the 2026 college football after a court ruling in his NCAA gambling case. He is set to suit up for the Texas Tech Red Raiders this fall.

That decision has been met with criticism from media, school administrators, and fans. Now, a former Iowa wrestler has come out to rip the ruling.

Nelson Brands was “banned” from the sport after placing a trio of $5 wagers on the Hawkeyes’ football team. He lost a season of eligibility as a result of his gambling activity.

Brendan Sorsby will play despite gambling habit.

The transfer quarterback beat the system after admitting to betting on college athletics. Sorsby reportedly placed $90,000 worth of wagers on a variety of sports over the last four years.

Some came on his own team as a member of the Indiana football program. Many came while under the age of 21, violating state law. A number were linked to accounts created by family members and friends.

His gambling addition was uncovered ahead of his first season with Texas Tech. He was granted his final year of eligibility with a temporary injunction after spending 35 days in a rehab facility.

Sorsby was denied a request for reinstatement by the NCAA. He won his case in a Lubbock, Texas courthouse to overrule that restriction. The decision is monumental.

The passer broke the NCAA’s golden rule. He will receive a slap on the wrist in the form of a two-game suspension. Sorsby will be eligible for each of the Red Raiders’ nine conference games barring a reversal on appeal.

In the past, gambling on college sports has been cause for an NCAA ban. Betting on your own team is the ultimate no-no as it undermines the integrity of the game.

One of the most recent cases to play out prior to Brendan Sorsby’s ruling occurred in Iowa. Both the Hawkeyes and Cyclones had players suspended as a result of gambling.

Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers was blackballed because of his activity. He missed the 2023 season after being slated as the starter and was forced to transfer down to JUCO.

He placed more than 300 bets at a total of approximately $2,800.26, with many coming on Iowa State sports.

Iowa baseball superstar Keaton Anthony was suspended as part of that same probe, which cost him the final 17 games of his last season with the Hawkeyes and tanked his MLB Draft stock.

There were more than a dozen others punished in the sting. Nelson Brands was one of them.

The wrestler signed with Iowa ahead of the 2018 season. He competed the next four seasons, being named an All-American in 2022-23. He was ruled ineligible for his senior year.

Brands’ gambling activity was not nearly as egregious as Sorsby’s. He claims to have placed three $5 bets on Iowa football games. They were not linked to his sport or team. Still, he was barred from competition.

Texas Tech is enemy No. 1.

Schools and conferences are already holding discussions about removing the Red Raiders from future schedules. That does not apply to football alone.

There have also been calls for the College Football Playoff to ban the program from the postseason.

In response to the ruling, one Big 12 coach has already suggested that he’ll encourage his players to bet on their own games in the future. Texas Tech booster and leader of the “Saving College Sports” movement, Cody Campbell, shared his thoughts on that decision on X.

But the issue could have even larger ramifications for Texas Tech.

Teams And Conferences Threaten To Avoid Scheduling Texas Tech

Shortly after the ruling, University of Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks barred his coaches from scheduling non-conference matchups with Texas Tech across all sports.

Now, it sounds like the entirety of the Big 10 could follow suit.

Multiple sources told The Athletic that Big Ten athletic directors are set to meet with conference commissioner Tony Petitti on Wednesday to discuss a league-wide ban on scheduling Texas Tech in all sports.

Now, that may not seem like a huge deal on its face. After all, the Red Raiders can still play big games against opponents from the ACC, SEC (sans Georgia), and newly re-formed Pac-12. But what happens if those conferences decide it’s prudent to follow the Big Ten and Georgia’s lead?

Maybe Sorsby leads the Red Raiders to a national championship, and none of this matters to Texas Tech. But it has the potential to blow up in the school’s face in a major way.

Pat McAfee is set to become the face of ESPN.

According to a report by The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, McAfee is currently negotiating a contract extension with ESPN.

Marchand reports that McAfee could get paid upwards of $65 million/ year, which is a big jump from his current estimated $30 million/year salary.

ESPN and representatives for Pat McAfee are discussing an extension to his contract that would pay him more than $60 million per year, sources briefed on the talks told The Athletic.

McAfee could be on the air even more, with a bigger role in NFL coverage a possibility, according to the sources. The two sides are currently between $60 to 65 million per year, according to the sources.

Last year, Stephen A. Smith signed a 5-year $100 million contract that looks small compared to McAfee’s negotiated contract.

It is worth noting that McAfee is getting a lot more airtime on ESPN than Smith. People have noticed McAfee’s increased presence on ESPN during the NBA Finals.

Someone inside ESPN pointed out to me that the network released plans for its extensive NBA Finals coverage, and for the first time in a decade, there is no mention of Stephen A. Smith.

The college football world is on edge after a local judge granted Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby a temporary injunction to play for the Red Raiders this season, despite evidence that placed thousands of bets over the course of multiple years, including on his own team.

Sorsby will instead only miss Texas Tech’s opening two games of the season, against Abilene Christian and Oregon State, before returning to the field.

The backlash from across the country has been significant, including several programs stating that they will not schedule competitions against the Red Raiders in any sport.

But one Big 12 coach in particular pointed out the biggest problem of all with ruling.

Brendan Sorsby Ruling Sets A Terrible Precedent For College Sports

ESPN’s Dan Wetzel spoke to a number of coaches across the country to gauge their reaction to the news. All of the coaches were mystified by the ruling.

But the anonymous Big 12 coach pointed out, perhaps sarcastically, that it will change the way he coaches his players moving forward.

“If this is the precedent, then I owe it to my players to bring in people from Las Vegas to teach us how to gamble,” the coach stated. “Then collectively, we need to decide which games we will play hard in [to cover the spread] and which ones we won’t.

“I’m supposed to do what’s best for my players, and in that case, they would be able to make a lot of money betting on our games,” he added. “That’s the precedent for me.”

While it may sound ridiculous when you read it, the coach makes a good point. In a world where a coach’s job is to do right by players, why wouldn’t he encourage them to fix games, make a ton of money, then lawyer up down the line?

After all, it appears that Sorsby was able to do it, and the only consequence he’ll face is missing two games that don’t particularly matter in the grand scheme of things.

Without legitimate punishments for betting on games, you don’t have a legitimate sports league. And the Sorsby ruling, made by a friendly local judge, has turned college sports into a mockery.

Brendan Sorsby will be allowed to play college football in 2026 even though he broke the rules on gambling. The starting quarterback at Texas Texas received an injunction that effectively overturns his permanent suspension from collegiate athletics.

However, two specific bets completely invalidate his most prominent argument for reinstatement.

People seem to forget that Sorsby twice placed bets that would profit from the poor performance of his own college football team. That does not make him more connected to his teammates.

Brendan Sorsby wants to us his situation to help others.

The 22-year-old quarterback entered rehab for a gambling addiction at the end of April. Logic suggested that Sorsby would not be allowed to play his fifth and final season of college football at Texas Tech because he admitted to betting on his own team and sport. That is not allowed. The NCAA subsequently issued a lifetime ban.

And then it got litigious.

Brendan Sorsby took his case to court. He was ultimately granted a preliminary injunction against the NCAA that prevents the governing body of collegiate athletics from punishing him for violating its rules on sports gambling. Judge Ken Curry ruled that the former Indiana and Cincinnati signal-caller’s attorneys demonstrated that their client will suffer a “probable, imminent and irreparable injury” if he is unable to play for Texas Tech in 2026. The NCAA cannot prohibit him from playing.

As part of the agreement, Sorsby must adhere to six requirements:

1. Commencing and continuing individual clinical counseling with a provider credentialed in gambling disorder, focusing on relapse prevention, cognitive restructuring: and anxiety management as ongoing areas of therapeutic work, as recommended in the May 12, 2026 report of Applicant’s Licensed Associate Counselor and denoted as Exhibit F to the Tompsett Affidavit offered and admitted into evidence in redacted form (the “Report”)
2. Commencing and participating in peer support through Gamblers Anonymous or a comparable mutual aid community as recommended in the Report,
3. Commencing and continuing treatment for Adjustment Disorder with Anxiety, addressing the underlying anxiety that served as the primary driver of Applicant’s gambling behavior, as recommended in the Report,
4. Commencing and participating in athlete specific recovery resources and mentorship a s recommended in the Report,
5. Not participating in the game day activities of the first two games of the Texas Tech 2026 football season, and
6. Brendan Sorsby admitted to placing over $90,000 in bets over four yers. He placed 40 bets on his own team.

However, a majority of those bets were on Indiana and the Hoosiers were not very good at the time. Their former quarterback claims that he actually lost more money betting on his own team than he won. He also claims that he only placed the bets on his own team to feel more connected to his teammates. It was an attempt to be more involved as a redshirt freshman.

These claims, in addition to his successful rehabilitation, served as the primary arguments in favor of the injunction.

“Once I became part of the active roster with an opportunity to play, I immediately stopped betting on Indiana. However, my gambling on other sports did not stop; it escalated and became compulsive. What started small when I was in high school turned into a daily habit of betting on all kinds of sports, including some sports that I didn’t follow and had no interest in like tennis and Romanian soccer. Gambling became an addiction.”

There is only one problem. Two of the bets on Indiana were against Indiana.

Sorsby bet on the ‘Under’ for starting quarterback Connor Bazelak’s passing yards in October 2022 and on the ‘Under’ for the first half of a Hoosiers football game in September 2023. Both of those bets only cash if his team does not play well.

Even though Sorsby and his attorneys claim he was not aware of the bets until they received the betting data from the sportsbooks, those two bets completely discredit their argument that he was trying to “feel more connected to his teammates.” He was rooting against his own teammates in both of those instances.

MetLife Stadium is using natural grass for the World Cup.

MetLife Stadium, which will be branded as ‘New York New Jersey Stadium’ for the World Cup, is scheduled to host eight FIFA World Cup matches in 2026. It will stage give group stage matches, two knockout round matches and the World Cup Final on July 19. The group games will feature Brazil, Morocco, France, Senegal, Norway, Germany, Panama and England. The rest is obviously to be determined.

Competition for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to begin on Thursday. The first game at MetLife Stadium is set for Saturday.

With just a few days until the start of competition, the stadium looks completely different than it does during the NFL season. The artificial turf field has been replaced with natural grass.

The installation took place at the beginning of May so the grass had more than a month to settle. Much like Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, which recently drew unnecessary criticism for its playing surface, this is not the first soccer game to be played at MetLife.

27 trucks transported hundreds of rolls of grass from a turf farm in North Carolina to the Meadowlands. Workers rolled the slabs of grass onto a layer of sand upon arrival. Once the grass was laid out, they tugged and pulled at the surface with rakes to fasten it. They also used an asphalt roller to stabilize the surface even further. The slabs of grass were then sowed together at the seams.

Once the grass was properly installed at the start of May, the focus shifted to maintenance over the last four-ish weeks. The grounds crew has worked diligently to get the field ready for play.

John Harbaugh would love the New York Giants to get rid of the artificial turf.

The New York Jets and New York Giants normally play on an artificial turf field at MetLife Stadium. The grass is only installed for the World Cup. It will be removed in time for the first game of the NFL preseason. American football games will be played on turf.

John Harbaugh would prefer the grass to stay. He did not want to get involved with the conversation on turf vs. grass because he did not want to anger the league commissioner. The 63-year-old didn’t want to say what Roger Goodell didn’t want him to say.

Silence often speaks louder than words. Even though he did not outright say it, Harbaugh certainly seems to prefer natural grass to artificial turf. The Ravens switched from turf to grass in 2015. Their head coach was thrilled.

This desire for a natural grass playing surface coincides with the feelings of the players. The NFLPA already called out the league over the use of natural grass at MetLife Stadium for the World Cup. It also called for a massive overhaul to NFL stadiums after the injury to Aaron Rodgers in 2023. A vast majority of players want the fake turf to be removed from every stadium. Even Swifties took up arms with the NFL over turf fields after Travis Kelce’s injury scare.

Meanwhile, the league continues to claim that turf fields are just as safe as grass fields. Change does not appear imminent.

For the past few weeks, the UFC has been building a large claw-like structure that will light up the Octagon on the South Lawn of the White House during its event on June 14th.

THE CLAW’S GIVEN name is not “the claw.” At Stageco, it is known as “beta tent,” and it typically lives in Europe. Stageco devised the structure for the 2017 Lowlands festival, a three-day music and camping festival in Biddinghuizen, Netherlands, headlined by Mumford & Sons and The xx.

“Stageco has done quite a few claw structures,” Nick Rivas, the operations manager of Stageco U.S., told ESPN. “And by that I mean we do arches or arcs perpendicular to themselves so it looks like a claw.”

The production is there. Sayin led the Big 10 in completions after winning the starting role. He threw for 3,610 yards and 32 scores to take Ohio State to the College Football Playoff.

The Buckeyes went undefeated under Sayin’s guidance before losing in the Big 10 championship. They then fell to Miami in their CFP opener. They’ll look to scrub that losing skid and win a second national title in three years.

Carr was stellar in his first season leading the Notre Dame offense. He threw for 2,741 yards and 24 touchdowns as a freshman while winning 10 games.

The Fighting Irish ended the year on a 10-game winning streak after back-to-back three-point losses to future College Football Playoff participants in the opening weeks. Carr’s play only got better with experience.

Unfortunately, he missed out on the postseason. Notre Dame was the first team left out of the field. This season, he looks to make a CFP debut.

He’ll likely need to boost his numbers from last season to earn true consideration. Most believe it will happen given his position as the Heisman trophy favorite alongside Arch Manning.

Ahead of Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, the NYPD — having already canceled watch-parties outside Madison Square Garden and telling ticket-holding fans to arrive two hours prior to tip-off — announced that multiple blocks around MSG will be closed starting at 4 p.m.

“Tonight is Game 3 of the NBA finals – an exciting time for New York City – and we want everyone to be able to enjoy the game safely. With tonight’s presidential visit, there will be extra security measures in and around MSG that the NYPD and Secret Service have planned together,” the NYPD said in a statement.

“Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be closed from West 30th Street to West 35th Street between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue,” they confirmed.

That’s a 5-block stretch north-south (30th to 35th) and a 2-avenue stretch east-west (6th to 8th) — making roughly a 10-block perimeter surrounding MSG, which sits at 7th Avenue and 33rd Street.

The kicker, however, is that “no one” will be allowed inside the area unless you “have a ticket to the game, a train ticket, are going to a business inside the area, have credentials, or have some other authorized reason to be there,” according to the NYPD.

While the NYPD does state that patrons of local businesses will be able to enter, the heightened security will undoubtedly restrict the otherwise free-flowing area and will deter potential customers who do not want to deal with the TSA-style precautions to simply go to a bar or restaurant.

Fans and businesses aren’t alone, as commuter traffic coming into and out of Penn station are also being put out. Penn Station sees approximately 500,000 passengers pass through on a given weekday — roughly 435,000 train riders across LIRR, NJ Transit, and Amtrak, plus additional foot traffic from the surrounding area. The evening rush is the busiest period, with the bulk of that commuter traffic concentrated between about 4-8 p.m.

With the NYPD’s security perimeter covering the blocks directly surrounding Penn Station, tens of thousands of evening commuters trying to catch trains home will have to navigate TSA-style checkpoints just to get to their platform — regardless of whether they have a Knicks ticket.

It’s difficult for people who’ve never been at MSG outside of a major sporting event to understand just how many people pass through the area. I was at UFC 205 back in 2016 — the first UFC fight at Madison Square Garden and the night Conor McGregor became the first fighter in the promotion’s history to hold titles in two divisions simultaneously — and 7th ave was so full with pedestrians that cars couldn’t pass through. People were spilling in and out of bars five, six, seven blocks past where MSG is actually located. Vince McMahon, several WWE executives, and former WWE shareholders reached a settlement in a lawsuit over the company’s merger with Endeavor to form TKO Group. Delaware’s Chancery Court had scheduled the trial to begin on Monday and last for one week.

The settlement of the lawsuit, which also included Nick Khan, Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, Stephanie McMahon, and other WWE executives, means testimony about Vince McMahon’s alleged sexual misconduct and hush money scandals will not occur.

Following the wrestling company’s $21 billion 2023 merger with Endeavor, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), several WWE shareholders filed a lawsuit in Delaware. They accused Vince McMahon and the other WWE executives of pursuing the deal in a way that violated their fiduciary duties and benefited McMahon at the expense of shareholders.

A trial could have exposed Vince McMahon and the WWE to damaging testimony

According to ESPN, if the trial had been held, the shareholders would have probably asked Vince McMahon to produce all records pertaining to the accusations of sexual misconduct, as well as records of any money he paid to female accusers. The documents would have allegedly reflected McMahon’s “state of mind” at the time of the merger.

Front Office Sports reported that the suing shareholders had demanded that McMahon provide these documents as part of the discovery process. Amidst the initial accusations in 2022, McMahon resigned as chairman and CEO of WWE. The following year, he returned to the board to help complete the merger with the UFC.

After Janel Grant, a former WWE employee, claimed that Vince McMahon had abused and trafficked her, the merged company asked McMahon to step down in January 2024. That lawsuit is still pending.

Another lawsuit, filed by five former WWE ring crew workers, filed against McMahon and his wife, Linda McMahon, alleges that the two “knowingly allowed” a ring crew chief to sexually abuse them decades ago. That case is still pending as well.

This week, the Clearwater Police Department in Florida declared that they had concluded their investigation into the death of Terry Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan, and that it was determined that the late WWE superstar died of natural causes. Police also determined that there was no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

Interviews with family members, home health workers, emergency responders and Hulk Hogan’s primary care physician are included in the 72-page death report. Investigators determined that Hogan died from a heart attack after examining surveillance footage and medical records, according to WCYB News. The report also revealed that Hogan had been suffering from atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm condition, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

The report also states that, while getting ready for a planned therapy visit, Hulk Hogan was in a living room recliner when a home health aide and an occupational therapist noticed he was unresponsive, according to the police. Following a 911 dispatcher’s order to move Hogan to the floor, the occupational therapist started chest compressions.

Other than redness and an abrasion consistent with the mechanical chest compression device used during resuscitation, investigators who examined Hogan’s body at the hospital reported seeing no signs of trauma. Police also interviewed emergency responders who said they too saw no signs of trauma.

Records from several medical facilities, including Tampa General Hospital, Morton Plant Hospital, Visiting Nurses Association, and Good Samaritan Medical Center, were subpoenaed by the police. According to investigators, their investigation turned up no proof that Hogan’s death was suspicious or criminal. Additionally, investigators reported that they did not discover any questionable prescription-prescribing practices for Hogan.

On Monday, Hulk Hogan’s daughter Brooke Hogan, who has been vocal in questioning the circumstances surrounding her father’s death, blasted the Clearwater Police Department.

“I think my fans and I think people know me well enough to know that I have integrity. I try to keep my mouth shut,” Brooke said to Bubba The Love Sponge. “I’ve tried to stay out of this stuff, but dear Clearwater Police: Keep my effing name out of your mouth. You have not treated me like family. You have not helped me. You have not been in touch with me like you should have been.

“And my family, by the way, I would have continued to talk to Nick,” Brooke continued. “The fallout really happened Nick Khan called me and was like, ‘We extended the invite for the WWE stuff through your brother.’ That’s fine. It has been just weeks since the sudden and tragic passing of NASCAR star Kyle Busch at the age of 41, and the auto racing world is still in mourning.

Over the weekend, Busch’s former teammate, Denny Hamlin, celebrated the life of his friend after tying Busch for ninth all-time in Cup Series wins. We’ve also heard statements from across the NASCAR world, including former boss Richard Childress, who revealed that Busch was set to sign a contract extension for 2027.

New York Knicks forward Josh Hart isn’t thrilled with regular NBA fans being priced out of getting into the Finals at Madison Square Garden. Hart called the fact that the cheapest tickets are ~$7,000 “crazy” and ridiculous.”

Josh Hart, who has been with the New York Knicks since 2022, made a key contribution to the Knicks taking a 2-0 series lead into Game 3, particularly with his performance in the opening contest of the series.

In Game 1, Hart became the first player in NBA history to record at least 15 rebounds, six assists, and four steals in a playoff game in under 30 minutes of play — Hart was on the court for 27 minutes.

The World Cup features the best soccer teams on the planet, but there tends to be a very large talent gap between the top contenders and the countries that were simply glad to qualify. That has led to some lopsided matches over the years, including the games responsible for the largest margins of victory in the tournament.

These are the biggest blowouts that have transpired during the World Cup

In 2014, Brazil and Germany faced off on the former’s home turf with a trip to the World Cup Final on the line. The latter appropriately treated fans to one of the more brutal doses of schadenfreude ever delivered on the soccer pitch, as the Germans pulled out to a 5-0 lead 29 minutes into the first half (with four of those goals scored in the span of six minutes) en route to a 7-1 victory.

That marked the eighth time a team had won a World Cup game by exactly six goals (no squad has done so deeper in the tournament), but it was not enough to join the groups of teams that have dispatched an opponent by at least seven.

Spain Beats Costa Rica 7-0 (2022)

As of the start of the 2026 World Cup, there were six teams who’ve won by seven goals, and I’m going to start with the most recent instance and work my way back.

Spain and Germany were the heavy favorites to emerge from Group E at the World Cup in 2022, and the former set the tone in its very first game at the expense of Costa Rica. Six different Spaniards ended up netting a goal (Ferran Torres was the only one who finished with two), and what was a 3-0 lead at halftime ended up being a 7-0 rout by the time the final whistle blew.

Spain advanced to the Round of 16 thanks to that victory, which was especially wild when you consider Costa Rica was the only team that was able to beat Japan (which also advanced with the help of unexpected victories over the other two members of the group). However, they were eliminated in a shootout with Morocco.

Portugal Beats North Korea 7-0 (2010)

No one expected Portugal to have any trouble with North Korea at the 2010 World Cup, and they didn’t really break a sweat against a team that was playing in the tournament for the first time since 1966.

Portugal needed a win after the Ivory Coast unexpectedly played them to a draw in their opening game, and Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. bounced back from that slight setback in dominant fashion as six different members of the team also showed up on the scoresheet (Tiago was the man responsible for multiple).

The winning squad capped things off with another tie against Brazil as both of those teams advanced from Group G, but they ended up losing to the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.

Poland Beats Haiti 7-0 (1974)

1974 was the first time Haiti played in the World Cup (it did not qualify again until 2026), and it got a pretty rude welcome on soccer’s biggest stage.

Haiti fell to Italy 3-1 in their World Cup debut, but things took a turn for the worse when they encountered Poland. Andrzej Szarmach had a hat trick and Grzegorz Lato contributed two goals to the cause as the Poles got the 7-0 victory, and they ultimately emerged from Group 3 play undefeated.

Poland ultimately had to settle for the third-place game due to the antiquated tournament structure that led to West Germany facing off against the Netherlands in the final, and they got the consolation prize with a 1-0 victory over Brazil.

Turkey Beats South Korea 7-0 (1954)

North Korea isn’t the only Korea that has suffered a 7-0 loss in the World Cup, as their neighbors to the south had already checked that box 66 years before they joined the club.

This is the first match between two teams that both failed to advance, as they ultimately ended up behind Hungary and West Germany in Group 2 in 1954 (those two teams ended up in the final, and the latter got revenge for the 8-3 loss it suffered during the opening stage with a 3-2 win to secure the championship)

Burhan Sargun had a hat trick for Turkey and two other players added two goals in the 7-0 romp. However, this was somehow an improvement for South Korea compared to their first-ever World Cup game as a standalone nation, which will make an appearance on this list in a little bit.

Uruguay Beats Scotland 7-0 (1954)

Turkey’s victory wasn’t the only 7-0 win that unfolded at the 1954 World Cup, as Uruguay also got in on the action while beating up on Scotland.

Scotland had opened things up with a 1-0 loss to Austria, but they were unable to hang with Uruguay as Carlos Borges got a hat trick and Oscar Miguez and Julio Abbadie each finished with a couple of goals. That helped them advance from Group 3, and they made it to the semifinal before losing to Hungary and falling to Austria in the third-place game.

Germany Beats Saudi Arabia 8-0 (2002)

We have three games where the winner scored eight goals against an opponent that couldn’t salvage a single one, and we’ll once again start with the most recent and work our way back.

Saudi Arabia managed to advance to the Round of 16 when it competed in the World Cup for the first time in 1994, and it was hoping to recapture some of that magic in 2022 after being eliminated in the group stage in 1998.

That did not end up being the case, as the Saudis finished with an 0-3 record in Group E after kicking things off with an embarrassing 8-0 defeat at the hands of Germany in a game where Miroslav Klose led the way with a hat trick and five of his teammates also got a goal.

Germany ended up making it to the final, but they lost to Brazil by a score of 2-0.

Uruguay Beats Bolivia 8-0 (1950)

The 1950 World Cup was a strange one due to the diplomatic drama and financial issues that limited the initial field to 15 teams before that number dipped to 13 after France and India withdrew before it got underway.

That meant Uruguay and Bolivia were the only members of Group 4, and it’s safe to say the former did not have any trouble advancing with a resounding 8-0 victory in the only game it played during the opening stage (Oscar Miguez also had a hat trick in that one).

Uruguay ended up meeting Brazil in the championship game and earned its second (and most recent) World Cup victory.

Sweden Beats Cuba 8-0 (1938)

16 teams qualified for the 1938 World Cup, which consisted entirely of knockout play based on a traditional bracket.

Sweden automatically advanced to the quarterfinals after Austria withdrew, and Cuba earned the right to face off against them by defeating Romania in the game that was played to determine who would advance after they initially played to a 3-3 draw.

If the Swedes were worried about being rusty against a Cuban team that had played two games to its zero, those fears were quickly assuaged as Harry Andersson and Gustav Wetterström each ended up with a hat trick while propelling their team to the 8-0 win.

However, they had a bit more trouble with Hungary in the semis while losing 5-1, and they fell to Brazil with a 4-2 defeat the third-place game.

Hungary Beats El Salvador 10-1 (1982)

There have been three World Cup games where a team has lost by nine goals, but there has only been a single contest in the history of the tournament where one of them scored ten.

Hungary set a mark that’s yet to be topped against El Salvador when both countries played their first Group 3 game in 1982, as Laszl0 Kiss had a hat trick to lead the six different players who had at least one goal for the winning squad (Luis Ramirez Zapata got the lone one for the losers).

However, neither side was ultimately able to advance to the knockout round, as those two spots went to Belgium and Argentina.

Yugoslavia Beats Zaire 9-0 (1974)

This is the only matchup on this list that features two countries that no longer exist (at least in the form they did when they faced off in the World Cup in 1974).

Haiti owed Zaire some credit for making their loss to Poland look slightly less embarrassing; Dusan Bajevic led the way for Yugoslavia with a hat trick, and six of his teammates also chipped in with a single goal.

That helped them advance out of the first group stage, but they were eliminated after going winless in the second one.

Hungary Beats South Korea 9-0 (1954)

Remember when I said the South Korean team that played in the 1954 World Cup would be making another appearance? Well, here they are.

South Korea’s 7-0 loss to Turkey was somehow not their worst showing of the tournament, as Hungary welcomed them to the World Cup with a 9-0 win where Sandor Kocsis had a hat trick to lead the five players who had at least one goal.

Apparently, rattlesnakes are one of the concerns of the Swiss national team as it readies to compete in the World Cup in San Diego. At least that seems to be the case, because a team post that included a map of their training base, along with a warning about the rattlers, has gone viral.

The Swiss team is alerting players and supporters that an area outside their World Cup training facility in Carmel Valley is off-limits due to snakes. In a post on Instagram, the goalkeeper area, training pitch, dressing area, gym area, and, marked in ominous red stripes, a “snake area” in the nearby canyon and brush are all depicted in a rendering of the team’s training facility at the San Diego Jewish Academy.

The post is captioned, “Watch out for the snakes.”

According to Fox 5 News in San Diego, the area does have a lot of rattlesnakes. San Diego County reports that they are primarily found in rural or canyon regions during the warmer months. Switzerland, on the other hand, has poisonous vipers but no wild rattlesnakes.

The San Diego Natural Museum says about rattlesnakes in the area: “In the wilderness, crossing paths with a rattlesnake can be a very memorable experience. Few sounds stick in the memory quite like the buzz of a rattler.” One can only imagine.

On the plus side, the museum also added, “Thankfully, rattlesnakes do not like being discovered by people. They are sensitive, fearful creatures that only hang around our properties for a good reason. Yes, they can be deadly, but they don’t have to be dangerous.”

Also, “Remember, rattlesnakes are fearful animals that only strike at humans in defense. They do not ‘attack’ people.”

Many people got a kick out of the Swiss national team issuing a snake warning

“Do you guys not have dangerous wildlife in Switzerland?” one person asked.

“Have to be quick on your feet!” someone else suggested.

“They also have bobcats and mountain lions there,” read another comment.

“Meanwhile, the Australian team is loving the decrease in snakes,” another fan joked.

Brendan Sorsby is eligible for the 2026 college football season. The Texas Tech transfer received a temporary injunction allowing him to suit up for the Red Raiders.

Mega-booster Cody Campbell has responded to the news publicly. He celebrated the Red Raiders’ ability to exploit an admittedly “broken system.”

Campbell has a vested interest in Sorsby’s success. The billionaire is bankrolling Texas Tech’s roster through NIL efforts. Sorsby was the crowned jewel in the team’s recruiting class this offseason. He signed to the tune of $5 million ahead of his senior year.

According to Matt Hayes of USA Today, Campbell will pay Sorsby’s salary if eligible.

Soon after stepping foot on campus in Lubbock, the quarterback’s eligibility came into question. Gambling activity was uncovered dating back to his freshman year at Indiana. He’s wagered around $90,000 across the last four years. He bet on his own team, which is an NCAA no-no.

Since, he’s battled to preserve his final year of competition. This week, he received good news.

Brendan Sorsby got an injunction.

That decision prohibits the NCAA from keeping him off the field. He is, for now, eligible to play at Texas Tech though an appeal is likely incoming.

The ruling is one of the most controversial in recent memory. Sorsby broke the NCAA’s golden rule. He receives a slap on the wrist for doing so.

The system is broken.

Campbell knows it. The NCAA knows it. Exploitation of the current setup has created a lawless environment in college sports.

Players are taking eligibility issues to local courthouses to seek favorable rulings. Brendan Sorsby is not the first.

NCAA President Charlie Baker spoke on the injunction Monday. He believes only Congress intervention can save college athletics.

“When you have schools and deep-pocketed supporters willing to look the other way on the glaring integrity threat of betting on your own team – and judges whose rulings effectively strip away our ability to stop them – only Congress can equip the NCAA to apply this commonsense rule to everyone fairly and consistently. The Protect College Sports Act would empower the NCAA to enforce rules including the gambling restrictions – it’s needed now more than ever.”

At this moment in time, the NCAA has no power. It is being overruled by local courts despite having clearly established guidelines related to rule violations and eligibility timelines.

Campbell, who is also the chairman of the Texas Tech Board of Regents, insists he is trying to fix the issue while actively exploiting loopholes for the benefit of his school. For that reason, his statement seems disingenuous.

Campbell is looking out for the Red Raiders. He has taken advantage of the current landscape, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but he is part of the problem he claims to be solving.

“So, I flew on Delta from JFK to San Diego,” Hernandez recalled. “I made the mistake of having a window seat, and I was in Aisle 1. And I had a guy sitting in B next to me on my right in the aisle seat. And he had his full Met regalia. And he didn’t recognize who I was. I was into my iPad, the whole thing. The whole flight, did not know who I was.

“We’re descending, and the flight attendant discovers that I had my laptop. I had it hidden in my newspapers. He goes, ‘You’ve gotta put that up in there.’ I had to get up and sidle over his legs.”

“When I sidled back into my seat, I bent my leg, and I went down almost in his lap. And I just grabbed his television in front of him, and it basically saved me from falling in his lap. And he still didn’t know who I was!”

“He didn’t recognize you then?” a shocked Gelbs asked.

“No,” Hernandez replied. “So, to make a long story short, there was a couple behind that were Met fans and knew who I was. So, I turned to the wife when we landed, and I said, ‘Would you mind asking your husband to get my bag for me up on top?’ And they said, ‘Absolutely.’

“And so the guy [next to] my seat went and got it, and then he looked at me, and he went, ‘Keith!’ I said, ‘The whole flight!’”

“The whole flight, and you fell in his lap, and he still didn’t understand,” Gelbs said with a laugh.

Games are set to be played in New York City, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Miami, and everywhere in between. And yet despite that fact, many of the top national teams on the planet have decided to have base camps not in five-star hotels, but at high schools across the United States.

However, there’s a catch. These aren’t just your run-of-the-mill public schools. Instead, the national teams for second-ranked Spain, eighth-ranked Morocco, 11th-ranked Croatia, and 19th-ranked Switzerland will all stay at some of the nicest high school campuses you will ever see.

The idea of the Royal Spanish Football Federation choosing to put the reigning UEFA Euro champions up at a high school in Chattanooga, Tennessee, may seem far-fetched on its face.

But that quickly goes away when you find out more about the Baylor School, which is one of the top preparatory schools in the country.

In fact, it’s even home to Marshall Manning, the son of legendary NFL quarterback Peyton Manning.

Not only does the school’s campus provide elite facilities, but it also offers privacy. The Baylor School is tucked away in the mountains and even has a separate entrance to the athletic facilities part of its campus.

“A lot of countries came in and looked, and there was a lot of interest,” head of school Chris Angel told Front Office Sports. “But when Spain wanted to be here, that narrowed it down quickly.”

These Host Schools Have A Deep History With Soccer

Meanwhile, Morocco has taken up residence at The Pingry School in northern New Jersey. The over 150-year-old school played host to Italy during the 1994 World Cup, in which the Italians reached the final before falling to Brazil.

Additionally, it has played host to several elite national and club teams in the past, generating six figures in revenue over the summers. The school’s facilities include two full-size training fields, expanded stands, and a retaining wall to keep training private.

On the other side of the country, Switzerland is staying at the San Diego Jewish Academy. The  preschool-12th-grade program has just 500 students, but incredible amenities.

The school recently spent  $200,000 in order to extend the grass on its training field ahead of the World Cup. That investment is significant given the recent criticism of World Cup playing surfaces.

Lastly, Croatia is staying at the Episcopal School in Alexandria, Virginia, which is just outside of Washington, D.C.

The boarding school is nearly 200 years old and has a massive 130-acre campus. It recently installed a second Bermuda grass field and hosted the U.S. women’s national team ahead of the Paris Olympics. It also hosted Emirati club Al Ain for the Club World Cup last summer.

Is it weird, on the surface, that teams are staying at high schools while trying to win the World Cup? Of course. But these clearly aren’t your average high schools.

For this one, you will want to wait until your playing partner chunks a shot. Ideally, it comes after they have piped a drive and had ‘birdie’ on the mind before catching too much of the ground and sending a big ol’ beaver tail of grass flying 30 yards down the fairway.

As they are sitting there, ready to throw a club in anger, you calmly look at them and say “bold decision to lay up from there.” It snaps them back to reality and changes the mood in an instant. There are two times, and two clubs, where you can bust this next one out. I tend to lean on this go-to trash talk phrase when we are on the green but it could just easily work if someone is in the bunker and having trouble getting out.

Let’s say we’re putting and my partner misses a putt he really should have made. He’s furious. In that moment I tell him “well, at least you had the right club in your hand.” Drives them nuts every single time.

This one is especially good to pull out on your dad if your dad is the type of guy to take golf way too seriously with respect to how good of a golfer he is… Ie., he throws a club in anger despite being a 22 index and has no business expecting to play good golf. And similarly to the putting scenario, if your partner is stuck in the sand and can’t get out then you can remind them that they at least have the right club in their hands (aka it’s all user error).

Golf Trash Talk Scenario 4: Mind Games

In this scenario, your playing partner is a bit of a headcase, an over-thinker. You don’t want to ruin their whole world but they have been needling you for a while and it is time to take them down a notch.

On the next tee box, you ask them if they are inhaling or exhaling during their swing. It is a devastating thought. One that will infect their pre-swing routine like a poison. Save this one for the right opponent. Don’t bust it out as friendly fire.

Golf Trash Talk Scenario 5: You’re Beating Your Opponent In A 2-Person Match

A lot of times on the golf course there’s just two of you, not 4. That type of competition gives you the opportunity to humble your playing partner.

The second you get a lead, if you are playing well enough, you remind them they are in last place. Not that they are losing, but they are in dead last place. Sure, there are only two of you but banter is banter. Last place is last place.

This one works well depending on how close you are with your playing partner. In a best-case scenario, you bust this one out with your brother, dad, cousin, or regular golf crew. You need to know your audience.

And it is a long game you are playing… They get a bogey on the first hole (you know this) and ask them if you should ‘put them down for a double?’ Add +1 to every score, aloud, not on the scorecard. So they get a par, you say ‘nice bogey.’ They manage to pull a birdie out of thin air and you say ‘that’s a real ho-hum par right there.’ Keep it up for as long as you can.

Golf Trash Talk Scenario 7: Challenge Them

In this scenario, your playing partner is chippy. They won’t stop ribbing you all day. You are coming off a below average shot, what do you do after they hit you with more trash talk?

You immediately challenge them to a driving contest on the next hole and tell them they have honors. Not only will they swing out of their shoes trying to beat the brakes off the ball this will throw off their tempo entirely for the next few swings. But you reaaaalllly need to sell it in order to get them to swing lights out.

Golf Trash Talk Scenario 8: Give It Up

There are a lot of times you just want to have a repository of one-liners to pull from when golf trash talk is necessary… Quick jabs that are often shot back after your opponent says something snarky.

A good one to have on hand is “if I played golf like you, I wouldn’t” as a reminder that while you might be struggling at that moment you are still the superior golfer. This one only works, of course, if you are the better golfer.

Golf Trash Talk Scenario 9: Reverse Psychology

In this scenario, your playing partner needs some advice but they are so far gone in their own head they can’t listen to you. You want to suggest a swing fix but don’t want them to snap, what do you do?

Hit them with “you’re not swinging hard enough” as a subtle reminder that golf is all about finesse and tempo. It is telling them they are swinging waaaayyyyy too hard without spelling it out for them.

Have you reached your wit’s end? Is it time to hit your playing partner with the most devastating golf trash talk that you can think of?

If you are playing with someone who is chill, they’ll laugh it off and it will likely help them refocus. If you are playing with someone who doesn’t have the self-awareness to realize they are a bad golfer then this might set them off but that is a risk worth taking.

Last but not least, anytime a shot is hit wayward and you want some golf trash talk to bust out you can tell your partner “that would’ve been a great shot if the hole was over there.”

This one is best used on a par-3 but you can also use it off the tee if they spray their drive off into the woods.

Dana White is betting big on the UFC White House event.

Last week, President Trump boasted that the upcoming UFC White House card is going to put up historic ratings.

“It’s right at the front door to the White House, and you’ll never see it again,” Trump told Fox News. “It’s never happened before, and you’ll never see it again. It’s great and the UFC’s going to have all the best fighters in the world coming that night. They all say we want to fight at the White House. Dana is an amazing man, he’s done an amazing job, he’s put together something that – this will be the highest-rated event, maybe one of them ever in sports.”

It appears that White also believes the UFC White House event will have massive ratings.

A private plane on its way to pick up former Major League Baseball star Yadier Molina and his family and friends crashed on Sunday in the Dominican Republic. Neither the pilot nor the co-pilot of the plane survived.

According to a statement from the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, the plane crash happened near the southern coastal town of La Romana. Officials identified the pilot and the co-pilot as citizens of the United States. There were reportedly no other passengers on board.

“An accident occurred on Sunday afternoon at La Romana International Airport involving the crash of a private aircraft, a Gulfstream 200, registration N318JF,” La Romana International Airport said in a statement. “The plane was crewed by pilot Erick Javier Diago and co-pilot Ruddy Ghazal, both of American nationality and the only occupants of the flight, which was headed to the city of Austin, Texas, in the United States.”

A few minutes after the private Gulfstream G200 took off, the pilots tried to return to the airport after reporting an issue with the aircraft. Video of the crash shared by baseball reporter and broadcaster Mike Rodriguez shows the plane missing the runway, skidding, hitting a bump and bouncing, then bursting into a giant fireball.

“We extend our sincere condolences and expressions of sympathy to the families and friends of those who died in this tragic incident,” the airport added.

The plane was on its way to pick up former MLB star Yadier Molina and his family and friends

After taking off from Puerto Rico, the aircraft stopped in the Dominican Republic to refuel before continuing on to Texas to pick up Yadier Molina and his traveling party, according to The Associated Press. Dominican authorities are reportedly investigating the cause of the accident.

“My ​condolences to the pilots and their families,” Yadier Molina wrote on social media. “This ​plane was on its way to pick up me, my family, ‌and ⁠friends in Texas to return to Puerto Rico. This is all so heartbreaking.”

On Friday, fans spotted Molina, who currently resides in Texas, in the stands watching his son Yanu, a catcher, compete for Austin’s Lake Travis High School in the UIL Texas 6A D1 state championship.
