14 years ago I was still typing on a computer just as I am now. Though I was most likely typing at 7pm as per my bedtime opposed to 4am. I had an idea. I have always been fascinated with the atomic bomb. My dreams are constantly filled with tornado or atomic bombs. Something about them both thrill me and terrify me. I am also fascinated with people, how they work and how they think. So 14 years ago I found myself in a chat room trying an experiment. What would total anonymous strangers without fear of being honest tell me when I asked them, “What would you do if the world ended and you had only a minute left to live.” Real answers below, be warned some are darkly humorous and not of my own creation.

Real Answers:

”I would try and piss for an entire minute.”

“I would have sex.” (On average this one is pretty standard)

“I would get a gun and go on a shooting spree.” (This terrifies me to this day)

“I would pick up my baby daughter and make her laugh.” (This inspires me to this day)

<!–more–>

I realized that I had something interesting here. I pictured these little vignettes and thought they would make profound, interesting, entertaining and humorous short films. But the problem is you can’t make an hour long movie out of one minute “real-time” short films. Even a 15-20 minute short of unrelated one minute films seems too much. That was until I realized two years ago that the perfect avenue for this idea was the web. One minute films are perfect for our internet short attention span. They can also be viewed at different times or all at once. The web-series was the vehicle to make this dream come true.

Mark a year later after filming and editing and fine tuning till now. Our fund raising kick. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t both thrilled and nervous. We are raising a good chunk of money and it is still only going to cover half a season. To the laymen it may seem like a lot for so little but after spending years now making films on bread and butter I am ready to take the next step into the bigger leagues. Using actual money!

With the incredible help of one of my great friends and inspiring and talented filmmaker, Richard Fleming (Co-Producer and Electronice Cinematgrapher) and the ever-so passionate and excited Mark Mook (AD) we have come to bring the beginning of the end, (so to speak). THE FINAL MINUTE!

Please check out the kickstarter page and help us start spreading the word. Maybe…just maybe…we’ll even do your idea!

Angels Without Wings or A.W.W. was one my first production companies along with Testament Pictures below. Angels Without Wings was a concept I created after a discussion with an artist friend. We were talking about how we were learning how to be light in darkness. We were angels without wings trying to live more and more daily in grace and working towards wings rather then horns. I had him draw up an initial sketch of the logo. Then I had Hilary Wade design the animation. Concept by myself. It is a production company that leaned more towards edgier productions in genres of thriller or sci-fi. The animation and logo were developed out of the grindhouse genre.

Testament Pictures was my other production company in the past. This was created out of desire for certain productions that were softer and dramatic rather then the edgier thriller. I had some projects with The Bible Box and used Testament Pictures. The concept was myself and the animation created by Chad Moseley. I now have X-Rocket Productions that cover both.

This was a great project as it was the first project that was purely a creation with my family, girlfriend, her son and one of my best friends. We had no professionals other then myself and used a flip camera. It felt good to win Best Director and In-Camera edits on a non-one shot film. As much as I love the one-shot concept for these contests it was goo to know I can pull off both. It was also a blast getting my family a chance to be in one of my films and be apart of it. Yet again we turned this in with only five minutes to spare. I was up all 24hr hours. The longest I had been up for a 24hr film festival. The others I got 2hr-30min amount of sleep. The film was also shown at the 2010 Cheyenne International Film Festival.

The film is a dark comedy about the economy, death and pop fiction. When the Grim Reaper decides to get a smart phone instead of using the Book of Life he soon finds himself broke without a job. Desperate and depressed he resorts to finding jobs through a temp agency. Meanwhile, Heaven is interviewing the next Grim Reaper and on Earth, no one is dying. Trouble ensues.

Dedicated to my Grandma Littlefield who enjoyed horror stories as much as I do. I think out of anyone in the family, she would have had the most fun making this. Love you Grandma wish we had more time when I was older.

Cheyenne Film Festival Winner:
Best Sound Design, Best Director and Best In Camera Edits.

(THIS IS AN EDITED version – credits were added along with a few more sound effects and sharper title)

In 2009 I wrote, directed and produced my second short film. I had previously won a Sony contest for a short film and was lucky enough to fly to LA to interview a Sony Producer. This film was the first that was primarily on my own. We had a premiere at an AMC theater along with a variety of other wonderful Colorado films.

Below is Testament Pictures and A.W.W. Productions presents “The Infected” B Trailer featuring the fantastic up and coming band Random Hero with their song “Pull The Trigger”

A psychological zombie film that is more about the journey then the ride as most zombie films are. After the infection hits, few remain. Three people find themselves in the mountains with the infected on their trail. Staying over at a cabin, they discover a door and they are not alone. Behind the door is a little infected boy who seems to be getting better. A film where the real question is, who is really the living dead?

Two towns connected by two long highways with tall, slender fields of grasses in between. Green stalks swaying in the Summer breeze, laid out along the flat land for as far as the eye can see. It is an expanse worth seeing. But don’t stop. And under no circumstance, enter them.

Taking the scenic route seemed like a good idea at the time. But when painter, Danny Wilson finds himself stranded on the side of the highway, surrounded by tall green grasses, he sees only one option. He will walk across the grass field to the interstate to hitch a ride into town. The only thing is, something behind him is moving the grasses or are the grasses moving themselves?”

2010 Best Cinematography, Best Editing

This is a re-cut edit of the short film “Reel Murder on the Air.”

Originally shot for the 2010 Boulder 24hr Shootout Film Festival, we re-edited this (by the talented Gabe Dohrn Avavision Media) film. The whole film was created in 24hours save the title and the credits (added on later). The film is also only two shots. The first shot and the second shot after the title, everything else is one fluid camera tracking/panning.

The film is themed around the death of Radio. With ratings failing, an Old Time Radio Mystery Show broadcasts a “real life murder, live on the air.” What follows is a twist and turn who-dun-it with deeper metaphors in what is art, metaphor, film, radio and ultimately entertainment.

For starters…notice the film being played in the beginning, one of THE most famous scenes ever in theater, Hamlet. It is very poetic that the scene is Hamlet coming face to face with death and life and contemplating what it means. TV can be said to arguably kill theater as well.

BEHIND THE SCENES

I have been lucky enough to have a lot of my questions and short films selected. I have had over 25 videos on CNN.com along with 2 films shown on the CNN television channel on Showbiz Tonight. Majority of my videos have been questions to celebrities. I have tried to do most of them through unique ways. Including Batman asking Russell Brand. I have interviewed numerous stars from Nicholas Cage, Topher Grace, Aaron Eckhart, Jenna Fischer, Michelle Rodriguez to Anthony Hopkins. See my portfolio for the range of videos. Here is a sample. I got to ask Russell Brand two questions and he didn’t know that I was Batman, classic! As well as the cast of Battle LA. Love those guys!
