I have a new obsession and it's name is Black Milk. They are an Australian clothing brand that makes leggings, body suits, bathing suits, etc. They are glorious.

I haven't ordered anything yet but I want to get myself a pair of leggings. I'm nervous because I've never really worn leggings before, let alone with a crazy print on them. The price is also pretty steep which is another factor as to why I haven't bought myself a pair of leggings yet; they cost around $75 USD which is crazy expensive. The quality is said to be amazing and fully worth the price tag.

I've been lusting over Black Milk for awhile now. I am constantly scouring the Black Milk Instagram tag, as my friend well knows. I am constantly sending her pictures of a well styled pair of leggings all the time. The pair that I want the most are the Wallpaper Leggings. They look exactly like the iconic wallpaper in Sherlock and Watson's flat in the BBC's Sherlock. Sadly they do not sell the plain wallpaper leggings anymore but they do sell a shiny version! They also have the most amazing bathing suit in the world. R2D2. I know. You want it now too. I bet you are watering at the mouth. I can't wait to buy my first pieces from Black Milk!

Do you have any items from Black Milk? Is it worth the price? Or are they just not your style, let me know in the comments!

I'm the type of girl who loves all things fairy tales. I grew up watching Disney, reading fairytale retellings, and wishing that I could be a princess in general. (Funny story, my favorite Disney movies were Mulan and Tarzan, not actual princess movies. I feel like it was the life version of foreshadowing on the types of entertainment I like to watch and read.) Disney fairy tales are great with their happy endings but that's not how many of the original fairy tales ended. My favorite two examples of this are the original stories of The Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty (a.k.a. Little Briar Rose.) If you don't know the real way these stories go I highly suggest that you give them a google. They end anything but happy. Most of the original fairy tales are very dark and gritty, not anything like the Hollywood versions that we know and love.

I'm so intrigued by the real stories, and I find them very inspiring. That is why I have taken it upon myself to read all of the Grimm's Brothers and Hans Christian Anderson's tales. I have these two gorgeous leather bound books from Barnes and Nobles that contain all of the stories. My plan is to read at least one story a day starting tomorrow until I get through them all. I'm excited! The main way ill be sharing my fairy tale exploits is through twitter so make sure you're following me! Whats your favorite fairy tale? Have you read any of the originals?

So now I present you my top 5 movies that I'm looking forward to in 2013 in no particular order (but lets face it, the first couple that I show you guys are the most important to me.)

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (or to those of us that read the books just Catching Fire) November 22, 2013- If you know me at all, then you know that I am a HUGE Hunger Games fan. I only wish that I had discovered the books sooner. And then the movie, I loved the movie so much. And then Jennifer Lawrence! UGH! She's flawless, the perfect Katniss! I loved pretty much everything about the first movie so I have faith that Catching Fire is going to be equally amazing.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug December 13, 2013- If you haven't seen The Hobbit yet you need to. It was another amazing movie last year, one of my favorites. I am so excited to see what happens next to Bilbo and the dwarves. I've read The Hobbit so I know the gist of it but I'm wondering what they are going to do to stretch one book into 3 movies. And Martin Freeman, another flawless actor! (there's going to be a lot of actor fangirling in this post) I loved Martin Freeman in the BBC's Sherlock and as soon as I heard he was cast as Bilbo I knew that he'd be perfect.

(Sorry no poster or trailer yet)

Star Trek Into Darkness May 15, 2013- Benedict Cumberbatch. Oh m gee Benedict freakin Cumberbatch. I was already excited for the second Star Trek movie but when I found out Benedict Cumberbatch was going to be playing the villain I became 98394% more excited. If you don't know who this beautiful man is then go watch the BBC's Sherlock and bask in his flawless acting skills. He is an amazing human being with cheekbones that could cut glass. Ok, but besides Benedict I'm excited to see Zachery Quinto and Chris Pine again. The story sounds promising and I loved the first movie. But seriously you guys....Benedict Cumberbatch.

oh my gosh, watching that trailer again made me get all kinds of excited!!!!

Iron Man 3 May 3, 2013- I mean it's Iron man, 'nuff said!

Oz: The Great and Powerful March 8, 2013- The main thing that got me really pumped for this movie is the trailer. Its such a beautiful trailer and it looks as if the world building is going to be amazing! Just click the play button.

There are so many more movies than just these that are coming out this year that look amazing (Thor: The Dark World, The Great Gatsby, Jack the Giant Slayer, Man of Steel, Monsters University, The Wolverine, Ender's Game.) I'm excited to go see all these movies on the big screen, even if it means paying a steep price at the movie theater. What movies are you guys looking forward to? Tell me in the comments!

I am someone that equally appreciates television, books, and movies. I know a lot of people will choose one category of those things and find them better than all else but I don't. I love them all equally.

I have a love of Knights, Captains, etc. I think this all stems from books and reading about the gallant efforts that they make.

And then on the other side of the spectrum I love me some badass pirate dudes. Seriously though, I LOVE pirates. I'm even good with guys that just look like they could be piratical rouges. Have you guys seen Captain Hook from Once Upon a Time? Well go look him up, you'll thank me.

Doctor Who. Hands down one of my most favorite shows ever (also contains a dashing captain at times.)

I have a major girl crush on Jennifer Lawrence, and if you're sitting there saying that you don't have one on her too then you're lying to yourselves.

Peppermint, it is the best taste and smell ever.

I don't eat most meat. I cant consider myself a vegetarian because I will eat chicken sometimes but mostly its no meat. I just don't like the taste. I have no moral standing against eating meat, I am just simply weird and do not like the taste.

Serial Killers intrigue me, not necessarily real ones but the fictional serial killers. I definitely recommend I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga. It gets you into the mind of a serial killers son. If you haven't started watching The Following on Fox yet, you must! Its soo good and its all about this serial killer and his cult. It's a very well written show. I may have to do a blog post about it soon.

I would love to learn how to wield a sword or shoot a bow and arrow, or shoot a gun even. I know there is no need to learn these things but I just think it would be empowering and make me feel like a BAMF.

I LOVE medieval Europe. Knights, chivalry, the black plague. It all fascinates me so much.

This book....so good. I don't know why I waited so long to read it. I bought it forever ago on my kindle and just never picked it up, but i finally did and it was just exceptional! I loved it so much. Under the Never Sky is a dystopian novel, but it is very original. Dystopias are the new thing, and as Ive said before its hard to find a different, original dystopia. Veronica Rossi did it though. I just cant say enough good things about this book.

The way the story is set up slightly reminds me of Graceling by Kristin Cashore. Now hear me out! I know those of you that have read both books are wondering where I'm going with this and are thinking that I'm crazy. The reason I find them similar is because the story really takes dominance over the first part of the book and romance doesn't set in until the end-ish. I could just be crazy in my thinking but if you've read both books you may know what I'm talking about.

I love the characters. The story alternates points-of-view between the two main characters, Aria and Perry. What I love about this is that it really gives you a sense of the characters and the different worlds they come from. Aria has lived in a highly-advanced, sheltered bubble her whole life and then she gets thrust into Perry's world, which is all very primitive and even slightly medieval. You really learn a lot about these two very different people and feel their emotions since you're in their heads.

The love story in Under the Never Sky...I love it. For one, its not insta-love (HALLELUJAH) and two, it makes you feel all the feels. Rossi had me grinning like a fool the entire time. As soon as I finished Under the Never Sky I immediately bought and downloaded the second book in the series, Through the Ever Night. I can already tell that Under the Never Sky is going to be one of my favorite books of 2013, so if you haven't read it already then go get it!
Long time, no speak I know. It has been an extremely long time since I last blogged. Basically what happened was that I was in a reading slump and just needed a short break from blogging. Well that short break slowly turned into just stopping completely. Now I'm ready to come back! There is going to be a few changes though. Before I had a set schedule for reviews, memes, etc. now my blog is going to be a bit more sporadic and the content is actually going to change a lot. Instead of being solely a YA book blog, The Young Adventuress is going to turn into more of a life blog. Ill be posting all kinds of stuff! There is still going to be a lot (and I mean a lot) of book-related posts but there is also going to be TV, movie, beauty, and maybe even a few project posts. I hope this little change doesn't disappoint you guys but I'm excited to start blogging again! The Young Adventuresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216891135534162345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2899979237279013322.post-44231384697579510682012-09-10T14:53:00.000-07:002013-01-23T16:57:45.967-08:00REVIEW: Stardust by Neil Gaiman

In the sleepy English countryside of decades past, there is a town that has stood on a jut of granite for six hundred years. And immediately to the east stands a high stone wall, for which the village is named. Here in the town of Wall, Tristran Thorn has lost his heart to the hauntingly beautiful Victoria Forester. One crisp October night, as they watch, a star falls from the sky, and Victoria promises to marry Tristran if he'll retrieve that star and bring it back for her. It is this promise that sends Tristran through the only gap in the wall, across the meadow, and into the most unforgettable adventure of his life.In the sleepy English countryside of decades past, there is a town that has stood on a jut of granite for six hundred years.
Stardust is a very original story with a wonderful plot. My friend told me to read this and I am so glad he recommended it to me. I got so sucked into the story right away and without his recommendation I probably would have never read Stardust. The basics of the story is that a boy falls in love with a snobbish girl and the only way she will marry him is if he brings her back the star that they had seen fall from the sky. When he goes to retrieve the star, he expects to find a rock but instead finds a young woman. The story is very fast paced and just a really fun fairytale, that is super original.

I really liked the characters in Stardust. Tristan starts out as a young boy but really grows up as the story goes on. He is a very polite boy. My favorite character had to be Yvaine, the star. She is super feisty but naive. I love how feisty she is. There are so many different characters in Stardust because there are multiple story lines going on at once. You have witches fighting to stay young, brothers killing each other to become lords, and then you have the adventures of Tristan.

Stardust is a fairytale that is more adult than most but it is so good. I cant recommend it enough, definitely go out and read it!
The Cloth of Characters is a feature that I do from time to time showcasing outfits that I made on Polyvore that are based on different book characters. This idea is inspired by Disneybound.

In honor of it being Throne of Glass's release date today my Contemplating Covers this week will be for Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. If you follow my tweets (and if you don't you should be) I have been gushing and fangirling over Throne of Glass for awhile now. I read and reviewed all the novellas (ill post the review links down below) and now I'm just sitting and waiting for the UPS truck to bring my copy of Throne of Glass! I am dying to read it and as soon as it comes in the mail I probably wont be doing much else!

Have you guys seen this cover though!?! It is GORGEOUS! The cover girl looks exactly how I pictured Celaena to look (sidebar: the cover girl looks like she could be Sarah J. Maas's younger sister. They look SO similar!) She is super pretty but looks like she could take you out in a heartbeat, especially with that pretty dagger on her arm. Look at that glass city/castle thing behind her! Its looks really intricate and neat and it complements the girls eyes perfectly. I can't wait to see the castle up close.

I am in love with this cover and I am sure I'm going to be in love with this book once I read it! I'm so excited to hold Throne of Glass in my hands! The UPS truck needs to hurry up and get here!!!
"An impossible romance.

Bitter rivalries.

Deadly choices.

To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?"

I was not a fan of this one. The story kind of bugged me but for some unknown reason I could not put this book down. I ended up reading it all in one sitting. In this installment Jacinda is back with the pride after she manifested in front of Xander and a bunch of other hunters. In a turn of events Xander and the other hunters are shaded and don't remember it ever happening. While Jacinda is back with her pride she is treated as a criminal because A: she ran away (even if her mother did force her) and B: She showed the draki's best kept secret to hunters. While Jacinda is being shunned she is trying to forget about Will and accept the idea of Cassian. I don't like Cassian and Jacinda together. I just don't, I like Will and Jacinda together.

In Vanish you meet a lot more draki characters, but sadly not in their draki form. Jacinda and Tamra get along better for the most part in this installment. Cassian really does care for Jacinda, even though she is in love with a hunter. He protects and helps her. The bad guy in this book is Cassian's dad, Severin. He sees Jacinda as no more but a trouble making, breeding tool. Cassian's family is full of horrible people. Like Will, Cassian has a horrid cousin. His name is Corbin and he is just creepy. The kind of creepy that when he looks at you, your skin crawls and you feel like you need to take a shower.

I really hated how everyone was so quick to judge Jacinda and her family but after she was forced into a certain event they acted like nothing was ever wrong and she was the golden child once more. The draki just are not pleasant people. I also hated that Cassian was always trying to worm his way into Jacinda's heart, but that's mainly because I am team Will. Even though I am not a fan of this series I still feel compelled to read the next book that comes out in a few months. It sounds promising and action filled so here's to hoping that its better than Vanish.

"When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton's type happens to be girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact. He's also a washed-up child prodigy with ten thousand dollars in his pocket, a passion for anagrams, and an overweight, Judge Judy-obsessed best friend. Colin's on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which will predict the future of all relationships, transform him from a fading prodigy into a true genius, and finally win him the girl. Letting expectations go and allowing love in are at the heart of Colin's hilarious quest to find his missing piece and avenge dumpees everywhere."

I'm not a big fan of contemporaries but John Green is an exception. After I fell in love with Looking for Alaska I decided that I needed to read all of John Green's books. An Abundance of Katherines was not quite as good as Looking for Alaska but I still loved it.

An Abundance of Katherines is centered around a child prodigy grown up, named Colin, that has just been dumped by his girlfriend Katherine. That is not the only Katherine that Colin has dated though, he has dated 19 Katherines in total. While Colin is in the depths of despair his best friend, Hassan, suggests a road trip. The boys take off driving, not knowing where they are going and end up in a small town named Gutshot, Tennessee. I love the story of this book. Its not about Colin constantly pursuing a girl but rather discovering who he is and trying to cope with getting his heart broken.

An Abundance of Katherines has a very relatable cast of characters, well not the prodigy thing but we will ignore that. First we have Colin, who wants to be more than just a child prodigy. Just like any normal teenager Colin fears being alone, which tends to make him needy, which then tends to get him dumped. Its a vicious circle. Then there is Hassan, who is a hilarious jokester, all around lovable guy. Hassan is on the chubby side and doesn't do much in the ways of work, both of which make him insecure. He hides behind his wall of jokes. Lastly there is Lindsey, she is just your average teenage girl who wants to fit in. She seems to have the perfect life; a hot boyfriend, popular friends, and a rich mother. She's not happy though. I really loved the cast of characters. They made me laugh and I could see a bit of myself in all of them.

I loved the dynamics of all the characters together and the raw emotion that is shown by them all. John Green's stories make you think and that is one thing that I love about An Abundance of Katherines. I also found myself giggling and laughing-out-loud periodically throughout the novel and that is always a plus. I look forward to reading more John Green in the future.
Stasse

Today I am bringing to you a new feature named Contemplating Covers! What is Contemplating Covers you may ask? Well what this feature is all about is the discussion of book covers! It can be about a cover that we are in love with, a cover that we hate, cover preferences, UK cover vs. US cover, whatever! As long as it has to do with book covers it can and will be discussed in Contemplating Covers.

This week is going to be a cover war between the US edition of The Forsaken and the UK edition.

As an obedient orphan of the U.N.A. (the super-country that was once Mexico, the U.S., and Canada), Alenna learned at an early age to blend in and be quiet—having your parents taken by the police will do that to a girl. But Alenna can’t help but stand out when she fails a test that all sixteen-year-olds have to take: The test says she has a high capacity for brutal violence, and so she is sent to The Wheel, an island where all would-be criminals end up.

I really love both these covers! I haven't read the book yet so I cant tell you which one best fits the book best but I'm leaning on the UK edition on being my favorite. The US cover is beautiful but according to the synopsis I think that the UK fits just a tad bit better. The US cover looks very hipster sci-fi, while the UK cover looks more like a girl who is determined to survive, which is what the story seems to be about. In terms of beauty, I still have to stick with the UK cover. I don't know what it is but I am absolutely in love with it!

I declare the UK cover the winner!

P.S. I can't wait to get my hands on this book! The premise of the story sounds like such a unique dystopian, and that is hard to find now. Since I'm located in US I'm sure that ill get the US version but nothing will keep me from lusting over the UK cover. Its so pretty you guys, SO pretty!

Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide."

These last couple of weeks I have been on a huge Fantasy kick, so I had to get my hands on Firelight. I was a bit disappointed. It was good but I just thought that I was going to love it so much more than I did.

The book revolves around Jacinda who is a draki (a dragon who can also turn into a human.) Jacinda, her sister Tamra, and their mother Mrs. Jones live in a pride with a bunch of other draki. For reasons they must flee to the human world. Tamra and Mrs. Jones are fine with this because Tamra never manifested and became a dragon and their mom gave up her draki long ago. Jacinda's mom wants/is-forcing Jacinda to give up her draki by purposely moving them to a desert city where it is impossible for draki to live. Jacinda hates it until she meets Will, who is a draki hunter. And this is where the whole Romeo and Juliet comes into play. After the two meet the story is pretty much just Jacinda trying to stay away from Will and not succeeding.

I'm not a giant fan of the characters in this book. Mrs. Jones and Tamra resent Jacinda for her draki. I get why Tamra would resent Jacinda, but her mom?! Jacinda's mom is literally trying to kill part of her daughter. What kind of mom does that?! Jacinda is an alright character, except that she has like, no will power. One minute she will be snubbing Will and the next they're making-out in the stairwell. Now onto the subject of Will, hmm...Well I must say that he is persistent. If someone snubbed me and gave me as much mixed signals as Jacinda gave to Will, I would not be pursuing them still. Will is probably one of my favorite characters in Firelight because even though he hunts dragons he has a heart of gold. My other favorite character is Xander, Wills cousin. He is just so evil that you just have to love him.

My favorite thing about Firelight is the dragons. We don't get to meet many dragons yet, but I like that they all posses different types of powers and can morph into humans. What I did not like was the insta-love that is going on in between Will and Jacinda. No doubt about it, it is insta-love. From practically the first moment the two meet they want to jump each others bones. Despite the insta-love and the Romeo and Juliet-esq feel Firelight did keep me entertained and I want to pick up the next book in the series.
"Celaena Sardothien is the assassin with everything: a place to call her own, the love of handsome Sam, and, best of all, freedom. Yet, she won’t be truly free until she is far away from her old master, Arobynn Hamel; Celaena must take one last daring assignment that will liberate her forever. But having it all, means you have a lot to lose . . .

This fourth fantastic e-novella gives readers an inside look at the characters who appear in the full-length novel Throne of Glass. Don’t miss out!"

My emotions you guys, my emotions! I knew that this novella was going to end badly because of the synopsis for Throne of Glass but it made me cry anyway. Not many books can boast making me cry, but this one did. It was just so good. This is by far the best Assassin novella.

The Assassin and the Empire has most of the same characters as Underworld, but I believe that this novella takes place about a year later. Celaena has a lot more raw emotion in this one. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT! Her compassionate, emotional side comes out which doesn't make Celaena make the most rational decisions at times but it does humanize her. By the end Celaena becomes mentally and emotionally stronger. I still love Sam, even though he does make some foolish decisions. Sam and Celaena together I love. With my whole heart I ship them. They make the perfect little couple, accepting each others flaws and always looking out for each other. And then there is Arobynn...oh how I despise Arobynn. He likes to destroy my happiness and and is just a horrible person. Just...URG! That is all I can say about Arobynn. You ll understand if you've read The Assassin and the Empire, and if you haven't then go read it immediately. It will leave you full of all kinds of feelings. I now anxiously await August 7th for Throne of Glass to come out.
When the King of the Assassins gives Celaena Sardothien a special assignment that will help fight slavery in the kingdom, she jumps at the chance to strike a blow against an evil practice. The misson is a dark and deadly affair which takes Celaena from the rooftops of the city to the bottom of the sewer—and she doesn’t like what she finds there.

I feel as if these Assassin reviews are getting repetitive because once again I loved this novella! The Assassin and the Underworld starts where the last novella left off, with Celaena arriving back into the city after being sent away to the desert.

In the first Assassin novella you were in the city for maybe a chapter, but in this novella the whole story takes place in Rifthold. Rifthold has the slight feeling of the gritty, underbelly of Victorian London, which I love. In The Assassin and the Underworld you get to see where, how, and with who Celaena grew up. She lives with Arobynn Hamel, the king of the assassins, and other Assassin guild members including Sam! Eeek! Sam was in this one! I love Sam, he is just so swoon-worthy. You learn a lot more about Arobynn Hamel, who had previously only been in one chapter himself but mentioned countless times. Arobynn is one of those people who tries to appear caring and generous on the outside but is really just evil and vindictive on the inside. He knows how to push Celaena and Sam's buttons and he does it on multiple occasions.

The Assassin and the Underworld is another great installment to the Throne of Glass series and you seriously need to go out and read these like right this second!
"The Silent Assassins of the Red Desert aren’t much for conversation, and Celaena Sardothien wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s not there to chatter, she’s there to hone her craft as the world’s most feared killer for hire. When the quiet is shattered by forces who want to destroy the Silent Assassins, Celaena must find a way to stop them, or she’ll be lucky to leave the desert alive."

I am in love with these Throne of Glass novella. Sarah J. Maas knows how to write a mean story. Just as with The Assassin and the Pirate Lord I could not put The Assassin and the Desert Down.

Celaena is sent to an assassin school in the desert as punishment for what she and Sam did in the previous novella. In this story you see Celaena grow a lot and even become a bit less...prickly. Not to say that Celaena isn't her usually feisty self, because she most definitely is. I have fallen in love with Celaena Sardothien. She is now on my list of Top 5 favorite female characters of all time!

In the Assassin and the Desert we meet new characters, a new setting, and Celaena even gets herself a bit of a love interest. I was blown away by the world and new characters. Everything is so well developed and I find that surprising with how short the story is. One thing that did disappoint me was that Sam was not in The Assassin and the Desert. Other than Sam not being in it The Assassin and the Desert was fantastic!

(NOTE: TJ, our young hero of NOLICHUCK, endures constant bullying at school. He even has problems with ruffians when he travels back in time to the wild frontier days. His story of ultimately overcoming and gaining real confidence is very relevant for youth today who suffer harassment from mean classmates.)

Are you faced with bullying at school or know students who are? Ways to deal with bullies.

Bullying in schools has seemingly reached epidemic proportions today. This appears especially true in elementary school, middle school, junior high school levels, and even up through senior high. And it's not just the boys who are tormenting their classmates. Girls often are crueler and much more devious than the boys.

Bullying can take many forms. It can be verbal such as taunting, teasing that goes way beyond mere kidding around, false accusations, vicious rumors, ugly slurs, constant unkind statements, making fun of someone's appearance or intelligence or lack of material things. It can be emotional such as constantly and publicly humiliating someone, continuously excluding someone from becoming part of an accepted group or popular crowd, derogating someone's manhood or womanhood. And it can be physical, including hitting, punching, slapping, kneeing a boy in his private area, shoving, tripping, choking, in the case of girls, pulling hair, yanking on clothes, spitting, biting, kicking, etc.

Whatever form bullying takes and wherever it occurs, bullying kids at school is intolerable behavior. Unnecessary and unprovoked unkindness is always wrong, no matter what the excuse.

But there are ways students can help protect themselves and deflect bullying actions.
1. Build a "defense team" around you. The old truism that all bullies are cowards unfortunately is not 100% true. Yes, many bullies are cowardly at heart, and they seek to lash out at weaker prey. But all bullies, whether they're a coward or not, respect power. Two are better than one, three are better than two, four are better than three. Early on, connect with other students who may also be targets of bullying action, and form a protective group. In between classes, in the lunchroom, in the gym, on the playground, etc., keep together as much as possible.
2. "Believe in yourself" and your good qualities. I'm not saying don't be realistic about areas where you want to improve. We all have things that aren't perfect in ourselves. But spend equal time encouraging yourself in the many areas where you KNOW you have good qualities. Think on all the good traits, skills, and abilities you have. Don't let peer pressure or group mentality or bullying take away your core confidence. You have a lot of innate value. You have dreams and hopes. Don't give those up. Who knows how productive and how fulfilling your life will be in 10, 20 years versus many of those people who are being mean to you right now. Look at the long-range picture and KNOW you'll going to be someone and accomplish good things.
3. "Stand up" for your innate worth. When confronted by untrue or mean statements, reply calmly, logically, and clearly. State what you know to be true about your self-worth. Don't back down. And never give up on yourself.
4. Think about taking some type of "martial arts or self-defense" class. I'm not necessarily talking about becoming the Karate Kid here. But learning some basic defense techniques and using them ONLY WHEN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY will work wonders in scaring off would-be bullies. I had several fights growing up with bullies. I was always small, highly intelligent (not a good thing in my generation), but feisty, and I never lost a fight with a bully, and in fact had instances where the bully failed to show at the "appointed time" because my bluster apparently scared them off.
5. "Make allies and be a friend" wherever you can. Even among the more popular kids, you'll find of lot of them have good hearts and real character who'll sympathize with your plight and take up for you. Be a true friend to everyone you can, knowing that real friendship pays dividends. And don't just be a friend to those in power, so to speak. You should go out of your way to be friends with others less fortunate. Help those in need, and you'll find help may be coming back to you!
6. "Never return evil for evil". It never works out the way you'd hoped. Don't say or do intentionally mean things to get back at bullies or others. Rise above the maddening crowd and be a better person than the bullies who persecute you.
7. "Make it known". In today's "zero tolerance" environment, it's not only okay but the correct thing to do to notify school administrators and teachers of bullying behavior. They'll take steps to stop the aggression. In addition, you should confide in others who can give you comfort and guidance: Siblings, family members, friends, acquaintances you can trust, and people at church (if you go). Talking things out always helps, especially if the person has been through some of the same problems in their school days.
