Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” off their top selling album Random Access Memories has been subjected, like most popular things, to parody. Here is one from YouTube user jcs101010, who has skillfully juxtaposed the track with scenes of the works of David Lynch. The bulk of the footage comes from the episode of Twin Peaks where The Man From Another Place appears as a red-suited dwarf who tears up the dance floor, which naturally works well with Daft Punk’s Chic-evoking funk. But scenes from Lynch’s other works, including the iconic “bad coffee” moment from Mulholland Drive and plenty of nightmare fuel from Eraserhead also make appearances. It could probably have used more dancing or general movement to really work, but for fans of Twin Peaks and / or Daft Punk, it’s a good excuse for a weird dance party.

This morning we were listening to ‘Crave You’ by Flight Facilities, just cause, and Gisele was dancing around in her underwear in the video. Here, another video, featuring the hottest Brazilian ever? Swedish denim entrepreneur turned photographer Johan Lindeberg shot his pal GISELE over an easy-breezy two hour period not for a big campaign, not for big bucks, but really, it turns out, for the love of jeans. “She called me,” he said. And it’s really no surprise: everyone from Daria Werbowy to Carolyn Murphy (who turned us on to the ultra-high-waisted, ankle-zippered Jeans 8 last summer) stockpile skinnies, straight-legs, and leggings at his SoHo boutique. We swung by this week to catch up with the Brazilian supermodel and get her denim rules of attraction.

Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara, and Ben Foster star in ‘Ain’t Them Bodies Saints’, the story of Bob Muldoon (Casey Affleck) and Ruth Guthrie (Rooney Mara), an impassioned young outlaw couple on an extended crime spree, are finally apprehended by lawmen after a shootout in the Texas hills. Although Ruth wounds a local officer, Bob takes the blame. But four years later, Bob escapes from prison and sets out to find Ruth and their daughter, born during his incarceration. Set against the backdrop of 1970′s Texas Hill Country, first time director David Lowery paints a poetic picture, evoking the mythology of westerns and saturating the dramatic space with an aching sense of loss. Featuring powerful performances by Affleck and Mara as well as Ben Foster and Keith Carradine, AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS is a story of love, motherhood and searching for peace while faced with an unrelenting past. Watch the trailer above. It’s def on our ‘to watch’ list.

Marc Jacobs said he felt he’d arrived when he created his first fragrance. Maybe Stella McCartney feels the same? She’s launched a new fragrance and a video campaign to accompany it. The opening looks a bit like a slow motion sneeze from a Bill Nye science video, transitioning to a monochromatic kaleidoscopic‎ pineapple, or what looks like radio speakers made of glass. Zoom out and we see it’s the slick bottle for the fragrance, the smell we aren’t sure of, but it sure looks good. This also goes with our wet and rainy and grey kind of feeling we have today about life, reflective of the weather. Spray on.

Like Thought Catalog but with hard-won wisdom and humility to its credit, David Cain’s Aptitudeis one of the most engrossing sites out there dealing with managing and optimizing the daily human condition. Cain has laser-pointed his own problems with Occam’s Razor and, unlike the average Thought Catalog contributor, aims to actually do something about them other than whine. He’s chronicled his attempts to tackle procrastination, mindfulness, veganism, and more in his “Experiments” section. He’s not a self-help guru, he’s trying to “get better at being human” and has some ideas for us who want to do the same. A recent post, “Let Reality Be Real,” explores the benefits of allowing minor inconveniences and discomforts into your daily life without moaning or avoiding them; he gives the classic example of carrying too-heavy grocery bags exhausting him way more than they should — I’m sure many of us relate. He writes: “I now see all instances of minor physical discomfort as a chance to get better at being relaxed. I relax into the discomfort, I let it hang out with me. When you first try it it’s an exhilarating experiment — to voluntarily open up to minor pain when that’s what the moment brings you, to refrain from listening to the impulse to cringe or harden. It feels like you’re walking freely in an area you thought you weren’t allowed to go.”

There’s an old Spanish saying that I found tucked inside a pack of matches: “Tell me who you run with and I’ll tell you who you are.” They say that life is all about relationships; don’t find jobs, find people. Brooklyn resident David Gensler has made his entire livelihood off of relationships — both in business and pleasure, which, in a city like New York, can sometimes feel like one and the same. David understands not only what others are looking for in him, but what others are looking for in others before they might even know it yet. With Internet Week in full swing, we think it’s just the right time to feature someone like David Gensler, who reminds us that as much as the internet is made up of static, pixels and algorithms, behind every glowing screen there is — most importantly — a person.

Before Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest, there was real life, and David Gensler was living it. Based in the Valley at the time of the dot-com boom, a young David Gensler was reaping the benefits of being in the right place at the right time. He was backed by ambition and an impressive resume: he started and sold his first company to hip hop mogul Jay Z by the time he was 25, founded his own print magazine The Royal, launched a clothing line for the sheer social experimental fun, worked at Roc-A-Fella Records, and collaborated with legendary people in the arts and entertainment business, like Leeor Cohen, Ricky Powell, Pete from Sneaker Pimps, Futura, the Mob Two Crew and KAWS, to name a few. Gensler is also credited for the entire marketing campaign behind Jay Z’s Black Album and launching the career of Kayne West. He’s turned nothing into something for big brands like adidas, ECCO and Hennesey.

As David tells it, he was lucky he started out when he did, and the circumstances have always been just right. We also like to think it’s his actual knowledge and business acumen that has made him what he is today: a man with a plan. Although it doesn’t seem like it now, his (currently empty) giant Brooklyn apartment once was the office space for The KDU, the first virtual collaboration-based agency intended for big clients for business purposes. In all the time the KDU has been running, David has seen nothing quite match it — not LinkedIn, Facebook or Behance (which he admits, he spends more time trolling on the net than porn); they all fall short of what they try to do, which is connect people. David connects people — creators mostly — to purposeful projects for large scale companies. It became wildly successful, linking all of those remote people, the best of the best in their field and hand-picked by David and his very small team, to work on specific projects. No one could compete with the sheer volume or quality that KDU was producing. But David eventually had enough of the beast he had created and called it quits.

Not to say that he’s quitting; he’s just reinventing. At 38, David has know-how, experience and a long list of achievements under his belt. He’s seen the evolution of social networks, from before they were a thing to now, when we all can’t seem to go a day without a tweet or tumble. We are a culture of self-taught self-promoters, he says. That selfie on instagram? That’s promotion. “Why can a guy like Mark Ecco be worth billions of dollars?” asks David. “These days, everyone is their own brand; there are thousands of us. There should not be one person worth $400 billion — what does he represent that you can’t represent yourself?” It’s a solid point, but how does it relate to the bigger picture? Right now, David is returning to the ethos of his first ever company, HUMAN BRAND, and re-creating it for dynamic competitive strategy to serve any kind of company — from adidas to a local coffee shop. The idea is that a brand doesn’t manage itself, but is based off of a construct of clearly defined shared values and archetypes, almost human-like qualities that create a strong character. “I’m always bringing it back to the human,” he says.

David is feeling confident about this next venture, which he initially says is under wraps, but then slowly begins to reveal more. YOU ARE WE will be the first platform to assemble teams, real and virtual. If you have an idea, he explains, what do you do? You can get your friends to help you out, but then what? Who else do you know? Every network, he points out, is limited — even those of LinkedIn and Facebook and KickStarter. How do you find who you are looking for? And how much would you be willing to pay someone who could do it for you?

David is using the algorithms of dating sites. You plug in who you are, what you are looking for, and David’s platform essentially acts as a super duper matchmaker. “This doesn’t yet exist,” he says. “This is a big idea.” The project is currently in the development and investor stages, and he’s making moves, putting the right people in all the right places. Imagine being a CEO or a freelancer, and being able to find your place based on a seamless platform that’s user friendly, and safely guarantees you jobs with accredited companies and good work from talented people. And all based on the simple idea that people need people.

Stay tuned for this exciting project, and don’t say we didn’t tell you so.

Made by Hand is a new short film series celebrating the people who make things by hand—sustainably, locally, and with a love for their craft. Their fifth film turns to bike maker Ezra Caldwell (Fast Boy Cycles), who was diagnosed with cancer in 2008. When the cancer threatens to shatter his love of bikes, Ezra survives by documenting his illness as thoroughly as his craft.

Howard and Guy Lawrence, known as UK dance duo Disclosure, are about to release one of the landmark pop debuts of the year with Settle. Even as “White Noise” (a former Contra Ear Candy favorite) makes inroads on the US charts, they’ve unveiled the UK hit single “You & Me” as well as the latest, “When A Fire Starts To Burn.” It’s grittier than any of their other recent material, harkening back to their purely rhythmic roots. “When a fire starts to burn, right?” a sharp male voice commands on repeat, reminding us of all the two-step rap verses we love and miss. And then the beat just goes zero gravity.
