When you buy a new PC, your hard disk is generally not partitioned. Partition of hard drive means to create multiple drives for better allocation of your data and files. You might want a separation of concerns in how your data is being handled. So one partition for your Windows/Program files and another for personal data (videos, music, documents). The advantage would be the ability to change your Windows install, upgrade, reformat and so on without needing to touch the personal data. If something, software related, goes wrong with your Windows install then it won't affect the personal data either, you just need to format only the same drive and re-install a fresh OS, without affecting your other files kept in other partitions.
One more advantage of partitioning your hard drive is that you can install multiple operating systems on different partitions so that both the OS may not conflict with each other and work seperately.
Partition manager pre-installed with windows is a bit complicated to use and may not partition your hard drive as per your requirements. So, here is a free tool which is very easy to use with very simple interface and you can partition your hard disk playfully with this.

Installing Windows XP over Windows 7 (or Windows Vista) with an option for dual booting.

Even after releasing of two newer version of windows, most of the people find Windows XP as the best operating system ,as far as programming and robotics are concerned. Later version of windows (Windows7 and Windows8) supports a plenty of hardwares and devices, but these versions are made much more complex and secure which is better for a normal user, but is not efficient for a programmer or for them who are involved in robotics or making project at home or connecting your pc to your circuit boards.

So, a better way is to install both windows XP as well as Windows7 on your machine and enjoy all the features along with multimedia experiences.

If you already have windows XP installed on your PC, you can easily install windows7 on a different partition and use both of them. but if you have a PC pre-installed with windows7, then it is a little tough task to install windows XP on it, since windows will not allow to downgrade its OS.So, in this post, I'll be explaining how to install windows XP over windows7 keeping both of them on different partition and create an option for double boot.
Following are the steps you need to follow-

STEP 1
First of all, you should have a different partition for fresh installation of WindowsXP. For example, if you have windows7 installed on "C drive", it is better to install XP in any other drive or simply create a fresh partiton for XP from the available disk space. You can playfully partition your hard disk using Easus Partition Manager.Download the free home edition here.

STEP 2
After creating a fresh partition, Get a CD containing windowsXP setup, or download the full version of Windows XP Professional here. Download the ISO file and burn it to a CD or if you want to install it from a usb pen drive, click here to know the steps.

STEP 3
After creating a bootable CD or USB drive insert the CD or USB drive and restart your computer.(Don't forget to set the boot order for CD drive or USB drive on the top of other devices in the bios configuration).

STEP 4
Now, If you try to boot windowsXP installer, you might not be able to install it if you had windows7 pre installed on your PC. This is because the bios configuration for windowsXP is a little different from that of windows7 or Vista. So, first of all you need to change the bios configuration according to XP, for successful installation.

*So, again restart your PC and press "F2" (or F11 / F12..etc) to enter the bios settings.
*Navigate with the help of arrow keys and search for "AHCI mode".
*By default, AHCI mode Control is kept on "Auto"mode. Change it to "Manual" mode.
*Now in the below option, "Set AHCI Mode to "Disabled".

*(AHCI mode is kept enabled if the booting OS is "Windows7 or Windows Vista" and it is kept disabled if the OS is "Windows Xp". Since windows 7 was pre installed so, AHCI mode was enabled. After the successful installation of XP, you again need to change "AHCI mode control" to "Auto" mode, so that the bios will configure itself according to the OS selected by the user.)

STEP 5
After configuring the bios settings you are now ready to install XP on the system. Restart your PC,after prompt, press any key to boot from CD. (In case of usb device it will be automatically booted if USB drive is set on the top in bios boot menu). If you miss the prompt (it only appears for a few seconds), restart your computer to try again.

Windows XP Setup begins. During this portion of setup, your mouse will not work, so you must use the keyboard. On the Welcome to Setup page, press Enter.

On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement page, read the licensing agreement. Press the Page Down key to scroll to the bottom of the agreement. Then press F8.

Select that partition which you created in the beginning , for the installation of WindowsXP.(Choose wisely,as you may loose your important data if not selected properly).

Press Enter again to select Format the partition using the NTFS file system, which appears by default.

After formatting , windows files will be copied to the partition and after copying the system will restart.

Do not boot the CD again(or remove usb drive before booting).

After restart, Installation will begin, which will further ask you for time zone setup, PC name , Password and other details.

Enter the CD key when asked for.

Finish the installation of Windows XP..

STEP 6:
After the successful installation of windowsXP, if you restart, you may not be able to access previously installed Windows7, as the MBR is written with the installed WindowsXP bootloader.

So, to get the option for dual booting menu of WindowsXP as well as Windows7, you need to install a small utility, called "EasyBCD", which will do the job for you. Download and install EasyBCD.

Open "EasyBCD",
Click on "Add New Entry"
Select the type as "Windows Vista/7/8"
Assign any name.
Select the drive (Partition on which has Windows7 was installed)
Click on "Add Entry"

STEP 7:
Restart your PC.
Now you will see both the operating systems listed in the boot menu.
Select the OS to load................

How to enable booting of CD or USB devices in bios.

Instructions to enable booting of CD drive or optical drive:

*First Shut down your PC if it is on.
*Press the power button to start it again.
*Just after pressing the Power button,keep pressing "F2" until you get the bios menu. (In some PCs press F11/F12)
*Navigate to "Boot Menu", using arrow keys on the keyboard.
*Select "Boot Priority Order".
*There you can see several booting devices arranged in an order.
*Booting takes place in the order of "Top to bottom".
*Read the instructions at the bottom, and navigate "CD Drive" to the top.(here using F5/F6)
*Save and exit. (Here F10).

Now when you restart, CD drive will boot first.

>> If you want to boot your pen drive or flash drive or any usb drive, the steps are similar . Just navigate "USB Drive " to the top in the boot menu instead of CD Drive.

Hi,you must have been wondering , how to make your PC as a server so that anyone can access your html page or any file present on your computer from anywhere in the world.. just like websites, which can be accessed from anywhere, just by entering web address. But to have a web address, you need to pay some bucks. so we will not have any web address, but will access our PC just by entering IP address.(However there is a way to get a free web address for your IP. Click here to know).
So, in this post, I'll be dealing with some simple and very easy steps to configure your PC as a server.
First of all, you need to know what is dynamic IP and what is Static IP.
*Static IP addressing is for one customer on one IP address and Dynamic IP addressing assigns a different IP address each time the ISP customer logs on to their computer, but this is dependent upon the Internet Service Provider (ISP) because some ISP's only change the IP address as they deem it necessary.

In a simple way, If you have a dynamic IP address, than your IP will keep changing, everytime you connect your computer with the network(even if you use the same internet connection everytime)., but static IP is the one which never changes for one machine or PC. It is assigned with a constant IP address, and most of the connections are generally provided with a dynamic IP address because, static IP address can become a security risk, since the address is always the same so, static IP's are easier to track and can be vulnerable to hackers. Static IP addressing is less cost effective than Dynamic IP Addressing.

So, to make your PC a server, you should have a Static IP address so that you can access your PC from anywhere just by entering your Static IP. But, since the connections are mostly with dynamic IP so, you need to enter the new Changed IP every time to access your PC files. (However there is a way by which you can point your changing dynamic IP to a single web address and your PC can be accessed by entering that web address, even if you have a dynamic IP).

So, to make you PC as a server, all you need to install is a tiny software, called "SimpleServer". This tiny application let you to make your IP as a server, so that you can access your files from anywhere just by entering your IP address. It is a safe application since you can access only that folder which is pointed by the application, and not any other files or folders.

Following are the steps to use this application-

1)Open "AnalogX SimpleServer"
2)The IP on the top is your IP available for your connection.(It can vary every time you connect, if you have a dynamic IP.)
3)Create a folder on the desktop (or anywhere you want).
4)Create a html file or web page or any file and place that in the created folder.
5)Choose the address of that file (See in the below picture)
6)Now click "Start".
7)Your server is ready. now you can access your pointed file (step 5 ) from anywhere on the internet just by entering your IP(step 2). If it is a html file, than you will view it as a website.

(IMPORTANT: To make your PC as server, either you need to disable your firewall from control panel or Set up an inbound rule in Windows Firewall to allow all activity on port 80, since Port 80 allows allow your web server to communicate.)Click here to know how to open Port 80 on your computer.

Allowing Port 80: How to Set up an inbound rule in Windows Firewall to allow all activity on port 80 so that you can use your PC as a server.(Windows 7)

In this post, I'll be explaining how to Set up an inbound rule in Windows Firewall to allow all activity on port 80, so that you can use your computer as a server, so that it can be accessed from anywhere on the internet.Port 80 and 8080 are the ports that the server "listens to" or expects to receive from a Web client.

So, If you are using your PC as a server, you need to allow Ports 80 and 8080 in windows firewall.
Following are the steps how to configure it:

1) Go to Control Panel>>Windows Firewall
2) Click on "Advanced Setting" (see the picture below).
3) Click on "Inbound Rules"
4) Click on "New Rule" on the right side.
5) Click on "Protocol and Ports"
6) Select the Port option and click next. (See the below Picture)

7) Select "TCP" and then add "80" to "Specific Local Ports" (You can add 8080 also through comma seperation ,( like 80, 8080) ). Click Next

8) Now Select- "Allow The Connection" and click Next.

9) Select Domain, Private and Public... Click Next

10) Enter any name (Ex Port 80). and finish.

So, you have created an inbound rule for port 80 and 8080 in windows Firewall.

You can check it by the following process:

1) Go to Control Panel>>Windows Firewall

2) Click on "Allow a program or Feature through Windows Firewall"

3) By scrolling down, you can see "Port 80" is checked. that means "port 80" is allowed.

IF you want to disable it , you can uncheck it by clicking on "change settings"

5) Enter the domain name you want for your website. (Note: For the free version , your domain name will have limited extension names.(Exmple- domainname.no-ip.org).
6) Click on "Sign Up", at the bottom.

A confirmation message will be sent toyour email. Verify it from your mail box.

Now go to manage hosts on the No-ip website or just click here to manage your hosts.
There you will see your domain name. Click on modify.

Now select "Port 80 Redirect" and there you will see your current IP address of your PC. If that is not your current IP, assign it manually.

Now click on "Update" at the bottom. (Leave other options unaltered).

How It Works:
*Since your PC is assigned with a dynamic IP, so there must be a client installed on your PC which will update your new IP everytime to the domain name, you've registered.
*When you verify the link from you mail, you will get a link to download the Update Client,Or optionally you can download the update client here
*So, even if your IP address changes, this desktop client will point the same domain name to your new IP address of your PC, So, now you can access your PC from the internet through domain name, even if the IP changes.

After downloading the desktop client ,install it ,open and enter your account information (No-Ip id and password).Click on "select host", and select your domain. Now your domain will be updated everytime and you can access your PC with the domain, even If your PC IP changes.

OR

If you have a blog and you want a domain name for your blog, then point your blog to this domain name. For example, I've assigned my blog "digitechn2.blogspot.in" to "digitechn2.sytes.net" . So, if you enter "digitechn2.sytes.net", then also you will be redirected to my blog.

For this, select "Web Redirect" and enter your blog address in the URL box. and click Update.

There are too many paid anti-keyloggers that you can have installed on your pc for more better protection, but the best among freewares is a tiny application called "AKLog Anti-Keylogger". It Deactivates all system-wide hook-based keyloggers.It is impossible to be fully protected in an unsafe machine where malicious users have had access.
