The game starts out pretty slow, each team only has 1 shot after about 8 minutes of play. The lines are a little different tonight we have Dupuis-Crosby-Fedotenko, Satan-Malkin-Sykora, Cooke-Staal-Kennedy and Minard-Talbot-Goddard. Off a faceoff in the Pens zone Goddard and Laraque decide to square off, it isn’t much of a fight, Laraque mainly tried to not get wrapped up and when Goddard got a hold of him both fell. Fedotenko takes a huge hit by Komisarek on the boards, haven’t seen a hit like that in a while. Kostitsyn hauls down Crosby, thats 2 minutes. Pens on the power play, Malkin takes quick wrister, but Price gloves it. Besides that chance the Pens really don’t do anything on the power play. Malkin jumps off the bench and gets the puck, he darts into the habs zone and makes a nice pass to Minard, he puts it on net. Price makes the initial save, but gives up a rebound. Sykora fights off a check and gets to the loose puck and puts it over Price’s shoulder. 1-0 Pens. Kennedy takes a hooking call, habs on the power play. They do just about as good as the Pens did on their power play.

The second period also starts out a little slow. Finally about 5 minutes in Crosby comes up the wing, he passes it cross ice for Fedotenko, he tries to put it on but fans on it. It gets to the net and it looks like Crosby might put it in but he is too well covered. Pens come down into the habs zone, they try an east to west pass, but it gets broken up. The Habs come back on a 3 on 2. Kostitsyn makes a nice drop pass for Plekanec who puts it 5 hole on Fluery 1-1 Game. On the next play Higgins tries a wrap around and it actually beats fluery but sits on the goal line, Scuderi gets the puck out of there! The Pens get a 2 on 1, its Malkin and Satan, Malkin goes for the shot but Price makes a great save. Off a faceoff win in the offensive zone eaton passes the puck back to Whitney at the point, he winds up a big 1-timer and Satan, who is in front of the net deflects it past Price. 2-1 Pens! Satan really needed that goal. Orpik takes a holding call, but the Habs don’t do much on the power play. Sykora gets a hooking call, Habs get another power play. Scuderi takes a stick to the face and goes down, no call at all geez! They call talbot for slashing, its a 5 on 3 now for the Habs. Schneider takes a huge slapper from the point and it beats Fluery, 2-2 Game. Malkin tries to run and gauntlet but gets dropped. About a minute later Crosby tries the same thing and gets dropped, looks like the Canadiens know what they are doing on them.

The Pens start the 3rd period the right way. Fedotenko comes into the Habs zone, he passes it to his right wing to Crosby, he then hits Malkin coming down the slot he lunges and shoots the puck past Price. WHAT A GOAL!! 3-2 Pens! Just like that the Pens get another one, Stall put the puck on the net, he looks for the rebound as players are looking for the puck Talbot comes in and find the puck and wrists it in the net as it is going off the mourings. The ref’s say it is a good goal, 4-2 Pens! Kostitsyn gets a nice pass coming into the Pens zone, he uses Gill as a screen and rips a wrist shot past Fluery. Just like that its 4-3! Now its back and forth hockey, chances at both ends! Very exciting to watch! Plekanec gets the puck coming into the Pens zone on the left wing, he winds up a a big slapper and it beats Fluery, Tie Game. Wow thats 2 pretty long, weak goals given up by Fluery. How crazy is this game getting? Gonchar has the puck at the point, he moves towards the center of the ice and blasts a slap shot under Price’s arm. 5-4 Pens. That’s Gonchar’s first goal of the season. Wow still more chances, then Pens are not sitting back and the Habs are pressing too. Time is running out for the Habs, they try to get Price off the ice, but he has to get back in net as the Pens get the puck. He finally gets off with around 40 seconds left, but that is not enough time for the Habs, game over. What a great period.

Game Thoughts
Wow what a great game, the third period was one of the most entertaining I’ve seen in a while. It looks like Bylsma’s system is more in place and the Pens are getting used to it. This game was a very high tempo game and the Pens were making the most of their oppurtunities. It was also great to see many pens players rushing back to help on defense, something we really have not seen much of this year. One thing that has been a problem with the Pens is being consistant, this was a good game let’s see if they can put some wins together though. Great game and good to take 2 points from the Habs.

Well a new coach is never going to have his system in place in just 1 day and we did not expect that going into this game, but we did expect the Pens to play hard. Not only do they desperately need the points they should play hard for this new coach.

The Pens were flat to start the first period, it seemed like the Islanders were putting everything on net. They even rung one off the crossbar, this is the Islanders, come on pens! The Pens finally seem to get some life when they get some shots to the Islanders net. Kennedy gets a 2 on 1 with Cooke, instead of passing to Cooke or shooting the puck he tries for the late man, Stall he shoots the puck, but it gets deflected over the net. Another example of the pens taking to long and not SHOOTING the puck!! The Islanders come down into the Pens zone and pass the puck towards the middle, it hits off Chris Campoli’s skate and goes in the net. After a brief review it is called a goal, 1-0 Islanders. Tim Jackman goes off for hooking, pens on the power play. Even with Gonchar the power play looks like garbage this period, geez! Malkin comes down the ice on a 2 on 1 with Sykora, she uses the D as a screen and puts it past MacDonald. 1-1 Game.

Malkin gets tripped by MacDonald, no call. The Pens atleast look alive in this period, they are trying to create some offense, but it is not happening the Islanders are breaking everything up, there is no real sustained offense at all. Another 2 on 1 for the Pens, its Kennedy and Thomas, instead of shooting Thomas tries to force the puck to Kennedy, it gets broken up…SHOOT THE PUCK! The Islanders come back on a 2 on 1, but Orpik breaks that up. The Islanders shoot the puck from the point, Fluery makes the initial save, but the puck squirts to his side an Islander is there and puts it in, 2-1 Islanders. Streit gets 2 for holding Sykora in front of the net, pens on the power play. The Pens control the puck well, Crosby has the puck and makes a backhand pass to Whitney coming in the back door, he puts it in the net! Tie Game! It is good to see that play finally work! Towards the end of the period a scrum ensues and Malkin decides to uppercut an Islander, classic.

The third period just seemed like a blur to me, both teams did have genuine chances to win the game but could not capitalize on them at all. It looks like Bylsma was pulling a Therrien and mixing up the lines, we saw Crosby-Malkin-Sykora and Crosby-Fedotenko-Malkin. Mixing up the lines really didn’t help that much. Neither team can score, we are going to overtime. Whitney has a 2 on 1 and actually shoots the puck, good save by MacDonald. Fluery makes a really good save on Okposo. Looks like its gonna end in a shootout. Franz Nielsen is up first for the islanders, he goes to the backhand and beats Fluery. Sykora is first for the Pens, he does a half slapt shot and it beats MacDonald. Tambellini comes down slowly and rips a wrists shot, it beats Fluery, nice shot but Fluery should have had that. Malkin comes down, loses the puck, gets it back, then loses it again, what crappy ice. Okposo tries some crazy move, but Fluery stops him. Crosby comes in close and slow, he has MacDonald beat but does not get the puck over his leg, end of the shootout and the game.

I don’t know how this was such a close game. Not only do the Pens need points badly they are playing under a new coach so they should have been flying out there. The only players on the team I saw really putting in an effort was Malkin and Kennedy, everyone else was just coasting around. It’s a sad sight, hopefully the Pens can do something about this…

That is never fun so I really didn’t have time to update this blog. After the horrible loss to the Leafs the Pens decided to can Michel Therrien and appoint Dan Bylsma as the head coach of the Pens. He was previously the coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pens, as Therrien was before him. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. I really want to see the Pens in the playoffs, but things are not looking good. They take on the Islanders today at 2PM, hopefully they can get 2 points out of them!

Coming into tonight’s game, every point is important to the Pens. You know they are going to want to play hard against the Sharks, who are the best team in the west. We all knew this would be a tough game for the Pens, but they stepped up and showed us what they are capable of.

The Sharks an offensive team and they showed it in the first few minutes of the game. Thornton gets a shot away on Fluery, Murray puts another one on net, and Grier gets one to the net as well. The Pens are starting to get their legs though, Sykora passes it over to Cooke for shoots it just wide. The Malkin - Cooke - Sykora line looks great in the first, the Pens best line so far. Sykora gets a great chance from a pass from Cooke, but Boucher makes the save. Tyler Kennedy turns the puck over in the Pens zone right to Pavelski, he gets a shot off, but FLuery is there to make the save. The Sharks come into the Pens zone 3 on 2, Grier passes it to Ehrhoff in the slot. He puts it on net, but Fluery is there to make the save. The Pens come into the Sharks zone, Thomas dishes the puck over to Satan who wrists it on net, Boucher snags it. That was probably Satan’s best chance in a long time. Crosby comes flying into the Sharks zone, he puts it on net, Boucher has a little trouble with the rebound, Talbot tries to dig for it but the whistle blows. After 1 period of play this game is pretty much even. The Pens are doing great considering the offensive power of the Sharks.

The Pens come out flying in the second. Dupuis gets a few chances, but they are blocked, Malkin gets a shot to the net, Cooke puts another shot on net, Boucher has trouble with the rebound Malkin is in there digging for it but no dice. Dupuis comes down the left wing and fires a slapper, atleast someone on this team shoots the puck! Staal puts another shot on net from the faceoff circle, Boucher makes another save. It’s all Pens so far. All of the hard work pays off as the Pens finally draw a penalty. Rob Blake gets 2 for hooking. Just as the Penalty is called the game feed goes out and some weird Liberty Sports thing comes up on our screen. This was on there for a good 5-8 minutes, nice one comcast. Well when this happened I tured on the radio, all I know is that the Pens didn’t do much on the power play, no surprise there. Then it happens, Satan has the puck in the Pens zone and lugs it up ice, he chips it up to Thomas who goes wide, Thomas tries to put it in front but it goes off Boucher and into the net! 1-0 Pens!! What a great play by both Satan and Thomas, the goal is extremely important as this game has been a stalemate up until that point! It was Thomas first goal of the season and his first as a Penguin. The second period was owned by the Pens, they really worked hard and were rewarded with a goal, great work!

We all know that the Pens have had trouble holding onto a lead, can they do it here? The Sharks are definitely fighting back in this period. Pavelski gets 2 great chances, 1 he shoots wide and Fluery naps the other one. Kennedy tosses a wrister towards the Sharks net, Boucher has trouble with it, and it puck is just sitting in the paint, but for some reason the whistle blows. Thomas gets layed out by a Sharks played, Staal comes to his aid and a scrum ensues. Staal is the only one to get a penalty, 2 for roughing. Thomas is out on the PK and he gets the puck as a clearing attempt appears to hit Ehrhoff in the throat. He is behind the Sharks defense and tries to go for a backhander on Boucher, but Boucher makes an amazing save! The Pens do a great job killing the rest of Staal’s penalty. The Sharks are swarming now, Pavelski shoots the puck and Eaton blocks it, he is stunned and goes down, then the puck goes to Clowe and he puts it back on net, it hits off the post then hits Eaton who is down and goes towards the net, Fluery eats it up. Tough shift for Eaton! Clowe takes a backhander, Fluery makes the save, but the rebound comes out and it bounces around before Pavelski puts it in an open net. Tie Game. There is a lot of back and forth action now, chances at both ends! Finally the Pens get a break as Clowe is called for tripping. Malkin puts the puck on net and it hits off the post and Boucher covers it up, close one there! Off a faceoff Crosby gets the puck in front and puts a backhander on net, it goes off Boucher and comes back to Crosby who tries to throw it into the net, funny but it wouldn’t have counted if it went in. Grier gets behind the Pens defense and tries to go 5 hole on Fluery who makes the save, Whitney dove to try to stop him and he goes sliding into the net with the rebound, luckily Fluery was able to keep the puck out of the net! Wow what a third period, whatever happens they Pens at least are getting a point out of this!

We haven’t seen that many overtime games lately. Malkin has the puck behind the Sharks net and gets dropped by Blake, thats another 2 minutes for him. Pens have a 4 on 3, they have a chance to finish the game there but they can’t really get that many chances. Fluery makes some good saves on a few Sharks chances.

Now we are going to a shootout, what a game! Sykora is up first for the Pens, he tries to go to the backhand, but Boucher stones him. Michalek goes first for San Jose, he comes down and shoots the puck over the net. Malkin is up next for the Pens, he tries for a low 5 hole shot, Boucher easily makes the save. Pavelski ties a 5 hole shot on Fluery, no dice there. Crosby is the Pens 3rd shoot, the comes down slowly and makes a quick move with his hands and shoots it through the 5 hole of Boucher!! 1-0 Pens. Boyle is the final shooter for the Sharks, he comes down and tries to go to the backhand on Fluery, Fluery gets his right leg out and makes a great save! Thats it, game! 2-1 Pens.

Game Thoughts
Wow what a great game, even if the Pens would have lost the game it was a great one to watch. Back and fourth action the entire way, hardly any penalties either so mostly 5 on 5 the entire game. The Pens really stood up to the plate in this game. They know that every point counts here and they took it to the Sharks in this game! It was great to see the Pens shooting the puck more and drive the net. So many players stood out tonight, Malkin, Staal, even Satan! Its good the see the guys really pick up their game. Also Fluery was huge in this game, no only for the shootout, but he made a lot of key saves, hopefully he is getting into his grove and will become that shut down goalie that we all know he is capable of. Great game for the pens and they earned a HUGE 2 points tonight! Go Pens!!

The Pens should have viewed this game as a character game, one they should have worked hard on to win. Even though they defeated Detroit earlier this year they still cannot forget that Detroit beat them in the final last year.

The game start with some back and fourth action between both teams. Fluery and Conklin are there to make the needed saves. Thomas draws a holding penalty, although it is a soft call the pens will take it. The pens power play does look good, they are controlling the puck well, but can’t mount much offense. The pens are definitely holding their own considering how they have been playing lately, although the Red Wings are missing some key players. Crosby and Samuelsson get into to it exchanging blows. They both go off, so we have some 4 on 4 action. Not much comes of the 4 on 4 really. Kronwall trips up Dupuis and goes off for 2 minutes. Letang takes a slap shot from the point, Conklin makes the save but the rebound is sitting there for Sykora, Lidstrom makes a great play to get the puck out of there. The Red Wings kill off the penalty, Chelios slashes the stick out of Staal’s hands, no call. Dupuis gets called for interference. With the Red Wings on the power play Staal gets a mini 2 on 1 with Thomas, instead of shooting he tries to force the pass over to Thomas, no go. The Pens do a great job killing off the rest of the penalty. Draper gets called for holding the stick, pens back on the power play. Pens don’t do anything on the power play. They did a good job in the first not letting the Wings get that many chances, but they need to SHOOT THE PUCK, not always look for the pass.

Malkin comes down into the Red Wings zone and leaves a drop pass for Gill who puts it on the net. They try to crash the net, but the whistle is blown. The Pens are still playing well breaking up a lot of the Red Wings chances. Sykora is called for hooking. Red Wings are on the power play, Zetterberg comes down the right wing and puts a shot on net, Fluery makes the save but kicks the rebound right out to Datsuk who puts it right in the net. 1-0 Red Wings. He really needs to control his rebounds! Some how Eric Godard gets a break away, he gets a wrister off, but Conklin makes the save. The fans are really giving it to Hossa and righfully so. I can’t remember a player getting booed that much every time he touched the puck since Adam Graves! Lidstrom gets called for tripping, Pens on the power play. They don’t do much on the 40 seconds they had. After 2 periods only down by 1 to the Red Wings really isn’t that bad, but they Pens need that all important first goal.

The Pens don’t do anything on their power play to start the third. Cooke goes in to finish a check on Zetterberg, who is passing the puck out of the zone. Zetterberg dodges the check but elbows Cooke in the head, no call. The Pens can’t get anything going as the Red Wings are just shutting things down. Crosby tries to take it past the Red Wings D, it does not happen. Hossa has the puck at the left point, he circles around and makes his way to the middle of the ice and puts a backhander on net, it beat Fluery, 2-0 Red Wings. Man that hurts, but how the hell do you let him get to the middle of the ice like that! Caputi gets called for hooking, Red Wings on the power play. The Pens do a good job keepign the game within 2 points by killing the Penalty. Time is running out on the Pens and they cannot mount any offense at all. Datsuk has the puck on the left wing, he takes a slap shot on net, Fluery makes the initial save, but Datsuk gets the rebound and goes around Letang and puts a backhander into the net. 3-0 Detroit That’s just an exclamation mark on Detroit’s victory today. The Pens can’t mount anything as time runs out on them.

Game Thoughts
The story of today’s game was the Pens not capitalizing on their chances. They were given 3 power play chances in the first period and they couldn’t convert. You don’t get many power plays against the Red Wings so you need to capitalize when you do. The Pens power play has needed work for a while and it is really hurting them as they had the chances to score first in this game. Once the Red Wings had the lead they could sit back and easily defend against the Pens, especially in the third period when the Pens couldn’t get anything going. I don’t understand why the Pens don’t just shoot the puck, they have so many chances to but elect to pass the puck only for it to get broken up. If you shoot the puck you might no score but you have the chance at the rebound, especially if you have other guys driving the net. It seems like the only person on the Pens that wants to shoot the puck is Dupuis. The Pens also need to get more offense in their game. Playing the 1-2-2 works when you have a lead or are in a tie game, but when you are behind it leaves little chance to get offensive opportunities. With the leagues top 2 point leaders it shouldn’t be hard to mount offense. This was 2 points that the Pens needed, but didn’t get. They will have Monday and Tuesday off as they prepare for the Sharks on Wednesday.

Every game is important and with the way the Pens have been playing you never know if a win of loss is ahead. Tonight the Pens played like they had a purpose.

The Pens came out flying in the 1st, they were getting pucks to the net and really pressuring the Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets are slowly getting momentum when Orpik and Cooke combine to destroy Umberger into the boards. He gets himself up and gets open for a chance right in front of the net, but Fluery robs him. The Pens are still pretty dominate, but then Bill Thomas gets called for slashing. The Jackets are on the power play and Nash comes out from behind the net and tries a wrap around to the far side, it looks like he is going to stuff it in, but Fluery makes anoter amazing save! What a relief it is to have a premier goalie that you can count on. The pens take another penalty as the first one expires. They kill that one off too, good job.

Umberger takes a hooking penalty early in the second. The Pens are on the power play, Crosby ties to hit Letang going in the back door but the puck is a little behind him. He manages to get the puck and from a sharp angle banks it off Dubielewicz and in the net. 1-0 Pens! Good to see the Pens convert on the power play. A few minutes later the Jackets ring one off the crossbar. Malkin has the puck in the Jackets zone, he circles up top and passes it to Orpik who makes a hard pass into the middle to Sykora. Sykora angles his stick so it will deflect and go in the net, 2-0 Pens. The Jackets call a time out. The Pens are picking up their hitting game, Whitney nails Umberger, Orpik takes out Chimera. Crosby comes down the left wing, he passes the puck back to Letang. Letang waits eyes the top corner of the net and puts it there, 3-0 Pens. What a wrist shot, Letang needs to be shooting more!

Cooke gets an unsportmen like penalty early in the third. The Jackets don’t do much on the power play. The Pens get a 2 on 1 with Malkin leading the charge, he passes it over to Stall for a 1-timer, but Dubielewicz makes the save. Malkin takes a high sticking penalty for checking Dorsett in the face, haha. The Pens almost kill off the Penalty when Huselius puts the puck in front and it comes to Tyutin and he puts it in the net. 3-1 Pens. Caputi gets a nice chance on a feed from Staal, but Dubielewicz eats it up. Time is running out on the Jackets, Chimera is robbed in front by Fluery. With just under a minute left the Jackets pull Dubielewicz. The Pens get the puck and Dupuis passes it along to Crosby and he puts it in the empty net. 4-1 Pens! The Blue Jackets try to start something when Dorsett challenges Goddard, but nothing comes of it. Game.

Game Thoughts
What a dominate game by the Pens. The Blue Jackets are not a premier team, but sure a much better team then the Leafs and Lightning. It is good to see the Pens work hard and finish their checks. All the Pens were finishing off their checks and getting in the face of the Blue Jackets, not just Cooke and Orpik. I also noticed the Pens has a lot more chances this game, it didn’t seem like they were struggling to find offensive chances. Staal really stood out in this game, although he was kept off the score sheet he really worked hard and made some good plays. Also Fluery played great, there were 3 prime chances that Columbus has to put it by him and he was there to come up big. Overall a great game, that’s 2 wins in a row, can we makes it 3 against Detroit on Sunday?

You would think that the Pens would be able to take the Lightning easily, but that was not the case in this game. Tampa Bay had a 3-0 lead going into the 3rd period, but the Pens were able to come back in the 3rd and tie the game up and force overtime…

The game started out with both teams feeling each other out. The Pens got an early power play when Recchi hauls down Malkin. Pens powerplay looks horrible as always. Orpik stick is lifted and hits Malone in the face, it draws blood so that’s a 4 minute penalty. The Pens do a great job and kill off the 4 minute penalty. The Pens can’t get the puck out and it comes in front and Malone puts it in, sloppy D by the Pens. 1-0 Lightning. The Lightning take another penalty at the end of the first.

The Pens have a power play to start the second, it looks a little better but they don’t score. The lightning are really picking up their hitting in the second, they are finishing every check. Lecavalier find the puck on the wing and turns to shoot it at the net, it hits off Malkin and comes right to St. Louis who slaps it quickly past Fluery, 2-0 Lightning. Malkin lines up Andrej Meszaros and levels him, he appears to get injured. The Lightning get called for too many men on the ice then also a unsporstmen like penalty. The pens have a full 2 minutes for a 5 on 3 and they cannot put it in, are you serious? The Pens are slowly picking it up but as always they are passing the puck instead of shooting it. Prospal has the puck on the left wing and he passes it through 2 pens defensemen right to Lecavalier and he scores, 3-0 Lightning.

Being down 3-0 going into the third it did not look good, especially with the amount of chances the pens have had in this game. Malkin intercepts an outlet pass by the lightning and he passes it into the slot to Dupuis, who rips a 1-timer, it hits off the crossbar and drops in the crease, McKenna does not know where it is and Malkin comes beind the net and pushed it into the net, 3-1 lightning. The lightning are containing the Pens, time is running out. With about 6 minutes left Eaton throws the puck on net, it his off a Lightning D infront and goes in the net! 3-2 lightning. The Pens still need 1 more, Cooke gets Roberts to go after him as Roberts punches him in the face. Roberts goes off and the Pens have a power play. Sykora puts it on net, it goes off a bunch of players in front and goes under McKenna and in the net. TIE GAME!! Both the Pens and Lightning has great chances to score but the goaltenders were strong.

Well were in overtime. Both teams are getting some chances but nothing that great. The Pens have the puck in the Lightning zone, Staal is fighting for it in the corner and puts it in front, for Malkin. Malkin fights off a check to get his stick free and puts the puck on net and it beat McKenna and goes in!!! Pens Win!! What a goal!

Game Thoughts
What a great comeback! Coming back from a 3-0 lead, in the 3rd period is quite a feat! Especially since the Pens could not get that many offensive chances and could not score on a 2 minute 5 on 3. The story of the comeback was Malkin. He matched the Lightning in hitting and worked so hard to get to loose pucks. Him scoring the overtime goal was just fitting. The Pens really needed these 2 points and they earned it. The rest off the team needs to feed off his energy during the next game. This was a great win, but the Pens still need to work harder, you might be able to come back against the Lightning, but a team like the Sharks or Bruins it isn’t going to happen. Great win none the less!

Another game that the Pens needed to win and they didn’t. Every game from here on out is extremely important, I don’t know if the Pens know that but someone needs to tell them that!

The game started out with the Canadiens on fire, getting a lot of chances. Luckily Fluery was there to make some great saves. Therrien in a surprises puts the 4th line out there early in the first and they get a get chance and crash the net. Caputi, in his first NHL game, on his first shift scores a goal! 1-0 Pens. The last Penguin that did that was Mario Lemieux! Right after the goal Goddard and Henry square off, its a pretty long fight both gets some shots in, but I would have to say that Goddard won the fight. A few plays later the Canadiens shoot the puck into the Pens zone and Fluery comes out to play it, he mishandles the puck and they pass it out to Hamrlik and he scores. The Pens do get a powerplay in the first, but it was one of the worst power plays that I’ve seen in a long time!

The Pens are on the power play in the 2nd period and Sid tries to pass the puck back to Letang, but he misses the pass and that sends Higgins into the Pens zone all alone, he beats Fluery with a quick wrist shot. 2-1 Canadiens. If the power play wasn’t having enough trouble, you let them score a short handed goal…wow. The Canadiens are working the Pens in their own zone and as always the Pens cannot get the puck out. Pacioretty got the puck behind the net and passed it out to a wide open Maxim Lapierre and he put it in the net. 3-1 Canadiens.

Moving into the third period the Pens are lookign a little bit better but really cannot mount any offense at all. Finally they get a break as Maxime Talbot draws a penalty. On the power play Goligoski passed the puck over to Malkin where he move in and took a shot, it beat Price 5-hole. 3-2 Canadiens. The Pens really needed that goal. With about 4:15 left in the game the Canadiens come flying into the Pens zone and Kovalev made a nice cross ice pass to Kostitsyn, Fluery gets a piece of it, but not enough to keep it out of the net. 4-2 Canadiens. The Pens still can’t get much going, Malkin draws a penalty with a little over a minute left, but the Pens don’t do much, game.

Game Thoughts
Like I said the Pens needed to win this game and they didn’t. Loosing against the Leafs and now the Canadiens, things are not looking good at all. They have some really tough games coming up and you would expect them to at least beat the Leafs. How is it that we have the two top points leaders in the league, but we can’t seems to generate that much offense? The Pens really need to do something to get things going or they are not going to make the playoffs.

They take on the Ligntning tonight in Pittsburgh, hopefully they get 2 points out of it!

It really makes you mad when you see the Pens work so hard throughout a game, they let a team come back and eventually beat lose the game in overtime. We have seen this many times with the Pens and last night was one of them.

The Devils came out flying in the game, they were throwing everything at the net, but Fluery was really strong in net. I looked like the Pens didn’t have a chance, but they Whitney ripped one from the point and Talbot got a stick on it to deflect it in the net! That was a huge boost for the pens because 20 seconds later Malkin feeds a pass over to Crosby and he backhands it into the net! The Pens were lazy in their zone and let the Devils come right back as Holik put one behind Fluery.

The score stayed the same until the third period when Malkin came down the wing and wristed one into the net. So the Pens have a 3-1 lead with under 10 minutes left in the third. Sykora gets a hooking penalty, then another 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct, so he is in the box for 4 minutes. Right off the faceoff Shanahan blasts one from the point past Fluery. The Pens are able to kill off the rest of the penalty. Time is running out for the Devils, they pull the goalie and get the extra attacker on the ice. There is a faceoff in the Pens zone with 35 seconds left, the Pens win the faceoff but are unable to clear the puck. Langenbrunner gets the puck behind the net and comes out and tries to get it past Fluery, the puck goes off Whiteny’s skate and into the net. Tie Game.

Overtime was all devils, the Pens didn’t even look like they wanted to play. The Devils made a cross ice pass to Langenbrunner and he 1-timed it past Fluery, game.

The Pens really needed 2 points, but atleast they walked away with 1. Hopefully they will have better luck tonight against Toronto. Tonight we will see Mathieu Garon in the net for the Pens, this will be his first start with the Pens since being acquired on January 17th. The Pens desperately need these 2 points! Go Pens!

After the Pens great 6-2 win over the Rangers on Wednesday they are going up against the Devils tonight in New Jersey. The Pens will get another boost of energy as Brooks Orpik will be back in the lineup tonight. That will bring a lot more toughness to the pens defense. The Pens are still on the outside looking in trailing the Florida Panthers by 2 points for the 8th spot in the east.

The Devils on the other hand are on a 7 game winning streak! And sit comfortably in second place in the east. They took out the bruins last night with a 4-3 victory in Boston. They are really becoming an offensive threat, the Pens are going to need to play hard!

Puck drops at 7PM, Go Pens!!
