I was reading my Bible recently in the book of Exodus and I was very amazed at something.  I have often thought that, even though at times in my life I have been ungrateful, that if God did something huge... I mean really really big, that it would stick.  That then I would remember his faithfulness and be grateful without thinking about it or having to remind myself what He has done.

Many atheists would tell you that is something that religious people use as an excuse to believe in something that can not be explained.  I greatly disagree with this.
