Mike Bevens, Brittany Ferries group commercial director, said: "We are well aware that families are feeling the economic pinch and money is in short supply. Therefore, asking for just a small deposit and requesting full payment a few weeks before departure means customers can secure the holiday they want now and at the same time help their cash flow.

"With almost all transport companies now insisting on full payment at the time of booking we believe this measure will be appreciated by passengers, particularly families, seeking value."

Brittany Ferries has pre-Christmas £99 return fare to France

Brittany Ferries has announced a special low fare of £99 return for a car plus two passengers for travel between now and 18th December on all its routes to France.

Although restricted to a maximum stay of 60 hours in France, this is perfect for anyone wishing to do a bit of Christmas shopping, stock up on wine and cheeses, or simply enjoy a well-deserved break.

Mike Bevens, of Brittany Ferries, said: "Our part of France is a great place to take a break at any time but particularly during the pre-Christmas period when the open-air markets have their own special seasonal appeal. Of course, by taking your own car, the only limit to the amount you can bring back is the size of your boot."

Brittany Ferries has services from Portsmouth to Caen and St Malo and from Plymouth to St Malo and Roscoff during this period and it is possible to travel out by one route and return by another.

These fares can be booked from now until 21st November for travel until 18th December 2011, with a weekend surcharge of £10 per car each way applies (Thursday and Friday ex UK and Saturday and Sunday ex France).

New autumn fares from LD Lines across its network of three ferry routes, provide short break excursion ideas to a choice of destinations including the Normandy region of Northern France and Gijón in Northern Spain.

LD Lines’ two ferry services to Normandy operate from Portsmouth to Le Havre and Newhaven to Dieppe.

Portsmouth – Le Havre autumn break fares start from £46 each way for a car and two passengers and Newhaven – Dieppe fares start from £39 each way for a car and two passengers. Foot passenger fares via Newhaven – Dieppe are also available for £15 each way.

The French region of Normandy is best known for its gastronomy, from Camembert to Calvados; its connections with William the Conqueror; the immense stretch of sandy coastline that forms the D-Day landing beaches and one of its most iconic sites, the abbey known as Mont Saint Michel.
