Bad Printing – Print Carrier

I used printcarrier.com for some fliers / business cards. Sent the files in the format requested. Cards came and the colours are WAY off. Really bad. So I contacted them. Then I waited a month. Then I called them. ‘Our print team say it’s well within our tolerances’! Is the response I got.

How can print companies operate like this? If I send a yellow to print I want a yellow back, not a green. My mac is fine, I print elsewhere without a problem. Printcarrier messed up and are totally unwilling to resolve the situation.

Take this as a rant, or as advice if you’re planning on using them. The local copy-shop might be a better, if slightly more expensive option. At least there you can talk to someone. PC only offer an 08…number,but for those who need it, their landline is 01530 274152 and 01530 274370. They don’t often answer though.

Now I have a bag of 5000 cards waiting to get skipped. Wasted money, ink, time, trees, electricity ….. Print Carrier, if you’re reading this please do something about your service and your print team.

Louise Firchau their new customer service manager says they are ‘the most successful online printing company in Europe’. I’d be interested to know how they measure success. Google them, you won’t find many good reviews.

Anyway, rant over. Just don’t use them, I’ll join you!

Liverpool Artists Book Fair 2009
SATURDAY 20 & SUNDAY 21 June 2009
Opening Hours: 12.00 – 18.00(Sat), 12.00 – 17.00(Sun) Admission is Free.
The second annual Liverpool Artists Book Fair will be held at A Foundation. The fair showcases unique and multiple books, comics, zines and paper based works by artists, illustrators and small presses from across the UK.

A Foundation is pleased to be hosting the second Liverpool Artists Book Fair. The fair brings together artist bookmakers, illustrators and small presses from across the UK and will be a great opportunity to network, chat to artists about their work and to buy original works of art from as little as £1.

Stallholders confirmed to date include: Foundry Press, Café Royal, North Wales School of Art & Design, Wirral Metropolitan College, University of the Arts London, Birmingham Institute of Art & Design, Pitville Press, LJMU Graphic Arts, Stephen Fowler, Emily Speed, Carson & Miller, Brickface Press, Camp Yellow, Tracey Eastham and Erpen Studios.

There will also be workshops, readings, performances and games throughout the weekend exploring the idea of the artists’ book.

Craig Atkinson, um dos mais importantes e pertinentes ilustradores da actualidade, reúne nesta exposição um conjunto de 200 desenhos.
Recorrendo a várias técnicas e ferramentas, apresenta na Dama Aflita retratos de gente vulgar, apontamentos arquitectónicos, diagramas enigmáticos, publicidade imaginária, edifícios isolados e um sem número de outros desenhos, aos quais junta por vezes frases soltas, títulos de notícias, datas, numa tentativa para rearranjar a realidade. Criando com isso cenários plausíveis para histórias que poderiam muito bem ter acontecido, mas se calhar nunca passaram, literalmente, do papel.

Sobre Craig Atkinson: tem desenvolvido nos últimos anos um invulgar corpo de trabalho, quer na ilustração, com trabalhos para clientes tão variados como The New York Times, Adidas, Computer Arts ou a marca de whisky J&B; quer na vertente mais autoral, com exposições em galerias de relevo, desde a Galeria Ceri Hand, Liverpool, passando pela Lab 101, Los Angeles, ou Galeria 85, Antuérpia, entre outras. É responsável pela Café Royal, editora centrada na distribuição e edição de livros-objecto e fanzines de autor. Nasceu em Liverpool, em 1977.

“At the end of summer 2008 Paul Paper spread the news that he was embarking on a trip around Europe and would visit places where somebody would host him. 50 sofas, beds or mattresses in 41 locations across Europe were proposed and the route map was drawn. Setting off on September 3rd it took him 8 weeks to visit 15 places out of the ones proposed.

This project portrays Europe in 2008 trough the eyes of the author. People he met and events that occurred on the trip. While very personal and intimate, it remains a universal glimpse into the joys, fears and loneliness of the lone traveler.”
