I've been really disappointed with blogger lately. I don't normally do things straight from the site but for different reasons that's what I'm now doing. The pictures take FOREVER to upload and I really don't have the time for that. I've been using Wordpress for work lately (yomies.wordpress.com) and am thinking about transferring everything over. Bleh. Anyway, point is things could change. Of course I will keep you posted -- I know I really left a cliffhanger here :)

The week before Halloween we spent the week as a family in Phoenix. It was super low key and we had no itinerary or plans. Just perfect. I think we will be going back.

Since its so time consuming to upload pictures from my camera, I will just share the few I have on my phone.

We were able to squeeze in a trip to the local pumpkin patch for Halloween...

It was a pretty cool coincidence that both Cameron and his cousin chose the Red (Power) Ranger this year. We have Netflix to thank for that. Jackson was a good ol' Cheeseburger :)

Since he learned to ride his bike without training wheels this summer, a new bike was in order (Batman, of course!) as was a new cape from his cousin Jaden. He was looking pretty awesome. The party was a great time! I can't believe he's 4 already...

Much like our Anniversary, I don’t have any recollection of what we did to celebrate my 29th birthday. That doesn’t mean the day wasn’t at all special, we just have a lot happening in our world right now. I do remember the night ended with the most delicious cheesecake. I also remember eating way too much of said cheesecake in the days that followed. I singlehandedly took it down.

CELEBRATING EIGHT YEARS!

Honestly, I have no idea what we did to celebrate our Anniversary on August 23. I do remember we ended the day as a family at the park with a take out, gluten free pizza. It was no frills and we loved it.

I’m a big fan of our #6 anniversary post. I put some pictures up there that bring back some good memories :) It’s true when they say things only get better with time! (I’m pretty sure they do say that…it’s a real saying, right?! Whatever, it’s true!)

Our boys LOVE each other. Jackson’s face lights up when Cameron walks into the room. Cameron loves to hug and wrestle with Jackson (that wrestling part isn’t that awesome). Jackson is starting to hug Cameron and give kisses. Just precious!

Each boy has such a different personality! Cameron is just super wild. I’m not saying badly behaved (though he has his moments) but he’s 1000% boy. He has no fear. He wears capes and loves Power Rangers. He always has a chocolate ring around his lips.

Just a few weeks ago we found ourselves at Urgent Care: 3 stitches in the back of the head. You wouldn’t have known he had a gaping, bloody wound in the waiting room. He was running around crashing into things, making sound effects and everything. Energetic. I know it’s just a matter of time before he jumps off the roof trying to fly. He’s totally that kid!

Jackson wants nothing but love. And freedom to roam. He just FINALLY cut his first teeth, 2 in the same day and it seems there are more on the way. So we’ve been eating a lot of purees. He’s not walking, but cruising along anything he can get his hands on. Gives such cute kisses, loves clapping and signing “all done”. The bottle is gone (he had NO problem with that, unlike his stubborn brother) and he’s just along for the ride. So laid back and relaxed. God gave us exactly what we needed with this little guy, I can’t imagine our crazy life with a high-strung baby. He’s also pretty photogenic if I do say so myself

I didn’t get a chance to post my favorite non-detail pictures from Jackson’s party. So, even though this is really late…well, I don’t care. I’m doing it :)

We got lots of “help”from the bigger kids during present time. Oye!

The biggest announcement ever…

…okay I admit it, I lured you here under false pretenses. There’s no announcement.

But I had to. You see, I’m afraid our little blog is no longer relevant since I only update …well, pretty much never. I started wondering why I even keep it up at all when I have such a problem making time to do it. I realized because it’s more for me than anything! I love looking at old posts and reading about memories we’ve made these past 3ish years. I have problems remembering what happened yesterday so this blog is almost completely for me. So, even though I no longer had the time for it, this blog is around for the long haul. If you’re still here reading, thanks :)

So…what’s new? I have no idea. I think my approach will be to post a few pictures and spread the posts out over the next few weeks. I will say it was a busy summer. I haven’t cooked a complete meal in months, Keith and I work mostly split shifts – “single” parenting has been a challenge, and we are just trying to juggle everything. We are sooo blessed – this season of our life is all about transition with a capital T. Transition. As in, not forever. I hope.

I did find 503 pictures on my SD card from the last 2 or so months. I promise I will not post all of them. Just some of my faves :) It might be best to start with the most recent and work backward…

Last weekend we went to our one and only OSU football game for the season. It’s going to be a tough year for our beavs but you won’t find any fair-weather fans in this family. Our team is bad but we still wear orange :) We’ve taken Cameron 3 times now, it’s becoming sort a tradition – we took Jackson when he was just a few weeks old last year too.

I like this picture because all three boys are here. And Keith looks happy :)

We went’with some college friends, they have a 6 month old posterchild for colic. They call him Screamy. Anyway, it was super challenging to keep Cameron from hurting himself/jumping on me/jumping on our friends/jumping on everyone in our section…you get the point. In his (and my) defense, we did drive 2.5 hours to the game and then he had to stay still and watch a game he knew nothing about. Either way, it was super hard and exhausting but Keith assures me these memories are worth it. I believe him but DANG I think I can wait another year before trying that again.

More interested in the treats at the concession stand than the game. It’s all good.

Hard to believe it’s already been a year since this post and this post and this post!

Saturday we celebrated Jackson’s first year of life. Talk about surreal. Everyone always talks about how fast time flies and that is no joke.

We love our little man to pieces! We could not imagine a happier, more relaxed, more loveable or more perfect fit for our family! I think I might do something more in depth later (I think it would be fun to look back on the past year in pictures, but here are some teaser pictures from the party…more to come later)

What you are looking at here is an “owl”. Sort of. The theme was owls, okay?! I guess it turned out more like a balding man with psychedelic eyes. I tried.

The party was at Cuppa Yo East siiiiiyyyyyde. (the new spot). It was a great way to break in the party room (his was the first of many, hopefully) so we also were able to get someone in there to take some pro shots. Those will be on here in the next couple of weeks, fo sho.

Blogging Frenzy & family BBQ

yeah, I had MUCH to catch up in blogland. This should be the last of it (I think I did 7…SEVEN!?). Sunday we hosted a BBQ for Keith’s family. He had family in town from Arizona and Texas, sounds like a great reason to have everyone over, dontchathink?

I forgot to count how many cousins there were at our house but it was A LOT. Our couch got a lot of use. They had so much fun jumping all over one another.

Many of our relatives hadn’t ever been in either Cuppa Yo. The new one has plenty of space for large groups so we had a Pow-Wow over there. It was pretty much a Clayton invasion.

Wedding Bells

Our friend Jessi from OSU was married last Friday and although it was a 2.5 hour drive each way (wish we could’ve stayed overnight!), it was super fun! Both boys had a great time, so we all had a great time :) As I was getting things together and pretty-ing up, Keith gathered the boys’ clothes. He noticed Cameron had a hard time getting into his shorts but just thought 'mommy’ shrank them. Well, turns out he was wearing Jackson’s 18 month shorts. Yeah, they were a little small :)

We had a super fun time as a family. Good memories :)

El fourtho de July

I didn’t end up taking many pictures on the fourth but it was pretty awesome. (I think I say awesome a lot…I should work on that)

On our way to watch the Bend Pet Parade. By the way, the pet parade = lame. Think lots of people just being in a parade because they have pets in lame costumes. In fact, most people in the “parade” don’t even have pets. Even though this parade is incredibly stupid, it’s pretty much a Bend tradition. You HAVE to go. It’s what you do.

A few hours later we rode our bikes over to the Freedom Ride. The Freedom ride is pretty much a crappload of people on bikes (most of these people are drunk) who pretty much take over the streets of bend for a couple of hours. It was hot and crowded but we will DEFINITELY do it again next year. Cameron was on the tow-behind/trailer bike of my cruiser and Jackson was chillin in the back of Keith’s bike. They were both safe and it was just fun. Maybe a little hot. Want to know more about the freedom ride? Check this link out:

Turning 29, Keith Edition

Before we get started, something about this picture just makes me smile.

Keith turned 29. Yup, the last year of his 20s. With the second store being open only 2 days I wasn’t able to plan much of anything. Having seen the Cycle Pub around I thought it would be a great way to host some friends without really hosting. What is the Cylce Pub, you ask? A giant bike of sorts with a table used primarily for setting down one’s beer. A pub on wheels. Awesome.

Pizza Mondo. Practically a requirement. Yumm.

Our driver. She tells us the rules then steers the pub through the streets of Bend. This is how all of this manages to be legal.

The hills were sort of scary. But Awesome.

I think everyone did have a great time. It was a success. Lindy and Matt (sister and bro-in-law of Keith) came down the day before to check out the new store and were able to stay the night for the pub. Good times.

Stopped for a Cuppa Yo, of course! Cuppa Yo + Beer = fun birthday. For the record, no drunkeness occurred. All in moderation, friends :)

Happy Birthday, Keith! I can’t believe we’ve been celebrating birthdays since we were 17! It’s cool. LOVE!

Father’s Day 2011

He’s great. Hands on. Energetic. Silly. FUNNY. Fearless. Lots of other things, all good. Well, mostly <3

I hope that Keith knows how amazing I think he is and that the ONE day a year (Father’s day) isn’t the only time I tell him how great he is. He deserves to hear it ALL THE TIME.

While Stephanie and I went to the store to get some grub for the legendary Father’s Day BBQ, Keith took the boys + baby to the falls for a little photo sesh.

Cameron took a lot of time coloring this frame for his ‘world’s best dad’. Because every dad needs one of these! His other present to Keith was LEARNING TO RIDE HIS BIKE! (no training wheels). I was blown away!

Later that day we went to the Gilstrap house for the BBQ and after Cameron showed his cousin, Jaden what he could do Jaden was super motivated not to let his little cousin show him up. Both boys learned to ride their bike on the same day! I can’t believe Cam learned before he even turned 4. I think it goes to show how much time and energy Keith put into working with him. Keith was proud of his little buddy.

Changes

These few weeks have been busy and fun. We’ve found ourselves transitioning – juggling more work (store #2 opened 2 weeks ago) and summer activities. Summer is the best time to live in Central Oregon! Seriously.

Cameron will be 4 in three months. I’m just going to put this out there: he’s a genius. And funny. And perfect in every way. I’m joking but we are amazing at this kid. His personality is HUGE and he says/does things to keep us laughing constantly.

He’s loving showers and has taken an interest in letters and spelling. Names are big for him right now. He knows all of our whole names and is pretty proud of himself. Here he asked for help to spell all of our names (not Jackson, must’ve forgot :). We ran out of a few letters, so we had to get creative.

Jackson is ENORMOUS. At his last appointment he was off the charts in height. I don’t recall where he was weight-wise but I do know he’s right around 22 pounds. Flippin large. I was so over carrying him around in his infant car seat! He’s still rear-facing but he’s riding in style in his new big boy (non baby) seat.

Los Claytons went for an adventure along a new trail. Cameron insisted on keeping his Lightning McQueen backpack on for the entire thing (funny since he hasn’t mentioned the pack once since then but he was so attached that day…)

Juney Wooney

June started out with a bang. We celebrated one year of Cuppa Yo. The meaningfulness (yup, real word I think) of the day didn’t really hit me until the actual day. To have the first year under our belts feels so good! There was a lot of uncertainty going in (especially about the colder months) but we had faith we would be fine. God totally provided (and continues to do so) and we are on the verge of opening stores 2 and 3! What an amazing year – we have been so blessed. It’s been a lot of hard work but I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Keith and I took the boys up to Tumalo Falls for our first ever trip. Turns out it’s only 10 or so minutes up the road. A fun little day trip (or a couple of hours since I had to be to work by 10). When they’re older we can explore a little more, there’s even a trail to walk behind the water – but I don’t think the park rangers would approve. Tisk, tisk.

Jackson is on the verge of mobility. Last night he started rocking back and forth on all fours. We all know that crawling shant (yes, also a word) be far behind. I guess since he’s now 9.5 months, this was bound to happen but I’d be lying if I said I was excited about this. With the ability to move, everyone will have to be more responsible for legos and other small parts. Scary.

Sidenote: he’s pretty flippin’ cute.

Cameron had his first field trip today at preschool and although I wasn’t there, Jackson and I had a picnic consisting of pureed squash and graham crackers. Jackson also indulged in grass. Yumm-o.

Your ‘food’ is all over your face, baby.

We are preparing for a pretty intense summer. Our 2nd store should be open by June 29th. And we are working to coordinate the third being open by mid to late July. We’ve also set up a mobile vending cart and have booked ourselves for a couple dozen or more appearances. Oye. Someday I’d love to get a video tour of the stores on here as well as some sort of house tour. That way, friends of socal, you can see your room WHEN you come for a visit (aka breath of fresh air, anyone?). ♥

I have SO many pictures on my camera that need to be uploaded/explained, but I’m not sure it’s totally necessary to explain most of them…
May has been good to us, we’ve found ourselves here and there – making plenty of good memories.
First stop, Belknap Hot Springs for a surprise birthday party involving our Brother in Law, Matt. Stephanie had a pretty big time surprise birthday party set up for him out there. She rented a giant house and we headed over to celebrate. Really fun. Really. Cameron was instructed to bring his ninja costume and here’s why:

It was a short stay, about 18 hours. It was the first time there weren’t any owners at the shop. It feels good but so, so scary to be letting go – even if only a little. Like leaving a baby at daycare for the first time, ya know?!
Last weekend we needed to head to Portland for some furniture, etc for the new store. IKEA is so perfect for those things! We decided to make a family trip out of it, leaving a day earlier than we had planned to shop with Steph. I am REALLY not a fan of Portland. It’s ridiculously hard to get around (I ALWAYS get lost…) it’s always dreary, the people are flippin’ weird (ever heard ‘keep portland weird’? This is a real slogan for the city) and I just generally dislike it because it ate my husband up for weeks at a time last school year while he worked there.
Despite all this, we had a pretty legendary weekend. Portland, you have redeemed yourself. Partly.

It was one of the nicer days we’d seen in a while, 70’s and sunny. Keith told Cam he could run in the fountains but had to keep his shorts dry. riiiiiight.

He’s not really even close to crawling yet. TOTALLY FINE BY ME! Not sure I would have said that first time around. Cam was crawling by now, but I now realize how much harder it gets with a mover! Stay still as long as possible, baby J. PLEASE!

This baby absolutely adores his brother. He gets the biggest smile on his face whenever Cam is close by. It makes my heart happy.

In other news, we got our pictures back from this round of Jackson’s first year. The nine monthers turned out great! I LOOVE so many of the ones with the boys together. Score.

I’m 3 y’all! I don’t know why he thinks this is the best way to make a three but it’s flippin’ hilarious! Love him!

tales from an insomniac

Woke up at 4 today and it seems I’m not going back to sleep anytime soon. I’ve been procrastinating on doing stuff in blogland, so I better take advantage of this opportunity.

Easter was good. We closed the shop completely so it was nice to spend time with the entire family. Cameron and I colored eggs which started out fun at first, but as we kept going it was a rush to be done before we had any egg dye- all-over-the-floor major accidents. No accidents equals success in my book.

Pardon Cameron’s ‘special’ Easter outfit. For church he was dressed up all spiffy (pretty dang cute if you ask me) but when he woke up from nap he wasn’t having it. It really wasn’t worth the fight so this is what he came up with for the rest of the day.

Our friend, Rey from OSU spent the weekend with us a couple of weeks back. There were fun times. We FINALLY had a sunny weekend so we were able to take advantage of Central Oregon they way it should be taken advantage of. You know what I mean.

But first, we had a party to go to. The first ever upperclass party. Classy up top, trashy down low. Awesome. As you can see, I wore pearls. Nothing says class like pearls. Winner!

Next up, a trip to smith rock. Which one is the rock of smith? I may never know.

Obviously we had great weather. There are several trails to take when hiking around. I thought we’d be doing the leisurely family (read: flat) trail while keith had it in his mind we’d be doing misery ridge (straight up and yes, the name is fitting). Guess who won that battle? Yup, Keith.

Did I mention the whole time I’ve got the baby tied around my front and Cameron is in crocs? It was a bad idea. Getting up was no problem, but as we got closer to the top I was seriously wondering how the heck I would be able to get down without killing either myself or my child. I bailed early before climbing 1.32499 bajillion stairs going straight up. Definitely a good move on my part.

Cameron earned a prize (10 stars for sleeping in/going potty at night) and has been working hard towards getting a set of Legos. These are his new obsession.

He loves making ‘injas’ (ninjas).

Mother’s day was pretty awesome. Breakfast in bed, church, cupcakes and flowers. I am so, so thankful to have the privilege of motherhood. As I go through life I am becoming more aware of all the women who struggle with Mother’s day. They either are struggling with infertility, miscarriages, or a whole lot of other things I can’t even wrap my head around. I do not take my two little guys for granted, not even for a second. Thank you, Lord!

Gratuitous bragging

You might remember from a couple of months ago, this post where I detailed our first DIY woodworking project. We made our own headboard, based off something you can find at Pottery Barn. This all came from this sweet site, Ana-White.com

Well, that was our starter project – I knew I definitely wanted to revamp our table. Our table is one of the first pieces of furniture we ever bought and we actually retiled it and stained it ourselves way back when. It was pretty small, the chairs were scuffing up the bamboo floors (I’m not sure our landlord would approve – we couldn’t find anything that would stick on the bottoms to protect the floor) and I was just plain tired of it. Here’s what we were dealing with:

Keith REALLY loved our old table. I really had to work on him to convince him to help me with my “vision”. He was very sweet to give in, even though our table was perfectly fine. I thought it was very cute, but definitely small. I wanted more of a forever table – something I could see using for many years to come to fit our whole family.

This table at Restoration Hardware was pretty spiffy but ummm I would never pay $3200 (plus shipping!) for anything, especially a table. Unless it it’s pure gold. Enter Ana-white.com. If we were willing to put the work in we could get EXACTLY what we wanted for the price we wanted. Me likey.

It took waaaaaay longer than I expected (of course) but turned out even better than I imagined! Here’s our table making journey :)

So, with the table finished, I wanted something functional to sit on (durr!). We could have got these benches from Pottery Barn, but at $499 a piece, OUCH. My bank account wouldn’t ever agree. So, we started again – these went much faster and coordinate pretty well! Thank you, Ana!

Keith, you are my hero! thank you so much for being a manly man and using power tools and building our furniture! We are thisclose to becoming AMISH! Love it!

NOBODY wants to read about THAT

[Disclaimer: There’s nothing horribly interesting written here, it’s just something I wanted to write. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!]

And by that I mean ~~BREAST FEEDING,~~ errrr, nursing. I’m done. I thought I would be happy and feel liberated and everything else, but I really don’t. When Jackson got really sick for most of his sixth month the demand really wasn’t there, so the supply mostly disappeared. I dried up, for lack of a better word. I tried to make it work but my chronically fussy and constipated baby told me it wasn’t.

So, that was it. I just couldn’t take it anymore. Nursing was horrible, he wasn’t ever happy. I said. THAT IS ENOUGH! And started him on the difficult task of adjusting to the bottle. He wouldn’t take one from me for the better part of 3 days. Misery for both of us (mommy + baby). But, he’s drinking nearly 30 ounces everyday and MAN! this kid can poop and pee. These are things that allow me to believe I did the right thing.

But, I really miss it. I NEVER thought I would ever say that. Sunday, I took him into the nursing room at church and found myself horrifically overcome with mommy guilt. 2 mommies were nursing while I plopped that bottle in my baby’s mouth faster than you can say nipple confusion. I knew I wasn’t being judged but it still was not a good feeling.

Oh, crap.

Pardon the motherly overtones here, but I miss feeding my baby. But I do suppose he’d still be starving and dehydrated and I’d be resenting the task of nursing.

Maybe I am just realizing that he won’t stay small forever?! He’s growing bigger and bigger and bigger every day.

And, did I mention he is just the most perfect baby ever? He is.

I’m sorry, but it has to be said. I have been getting some of the cuuuutest pictures lately! Cameron is again cooperating with the camera (well, sometimes) and Jackson is so smiley! I’m loving it. My April folder has over 200 pictures already. Yes, I have a problem.
