Home in 178 square feet

I've been thinking a lot about how much space I need to live comfortably. In Brooklyn, we lived in a cramped railroad that felt very much like a long hallway. We loved it (it was New York and you take what you can get) but I spent a lot of my time pacing back and forth from room to room. When we moved to Philadelphia, we settled into a gigantic industrial loft and it's as if everything we owned instantly expanded to fill the space. We love this place too but I think it's too fancy for us; I like some crumbling walls and peeling paint in my apartments. So now, as our lease is almost up, we are looking for something a little in-between, a just-right sort of place that we can call home.

But, when I see places like this 178 square foot apartment, the home of designer Zach Motl, I think, "I can do that". There's something actually quite comforting about a tiny home, everything needs to have a place and there's no room for extra crap that you don't need or want.

What do you think? Could you live in a little place or do you like the room to spread out?

Oh yeah, did I mention that I will be in London for the next three weeks? I am totally excited to be opening a new store on King's Road and then hopefully doing a little sightseeing/taking a little detour to Berlin to see some friends!

If you have any recommendations for shops, museums, galleries, restaurants and other must-see places in both London and Berlin, please reply!

A little late

Oh boy, I am having a hard time getting anything done this week. I'm chalking it up to a little winter ennui. It's supposed to rain all week here in Philadelphia and everything just feels cold and dark. Plus, my much-maligned adopted city was just rated one of the most depressing cities and it's making me sad!

I've been meaning to post this little Valentine's present that I wrapped for Mr. Loveforever. He's a giant fan of pine soap so I got him two fancy soaps (one British, one Swedish) and wrapped them up in craft paper (actually a grocery bag), some teeny tiny pine cones, twine, a little paper heart and of course, a hand typed note. I was pretty proud of the whole thing.

Plus, I surprised him with a dinner of crab cakes with roasted pepper coulis, mashed potatoes, shredded brussel sprouts and baked pears. Most of this menu was cribbed from a friend who was also cooking for her dude but it was perfect nonetheless!

A couple of days ago I went to the site of one of my favorite stylists, Twig Hutchinson and this is what I saw.

I can't even remember saying that about yellow because now I really do think I like yellow. Thanks Twig Hutchinson! I still don't love yellow walls but I love little pops and it has to be a really bright punchy yellow too, not that sad light yellow that I feel like I see too much of.

Anyway, it certainly was funny to see my blogs' name up there.
