HAPPY 2'nd BIRTHDAY ACOG

ACOG is coming up to it's 2'nd birthday on Nov 14'th and it's that time when we have to thank Mickeyboro for his attempts to get some "older gamers" together. We all know the story and what happened next, so a big thank you goes out to Rebel, Monkums, Cyantiffic & Slickers for setting up and administering the ACOG site / clan from the start. Without the efforts of these guy's we would still be wandering the PSN getting our asses kicked by random's instead of by a friendly clan member. There is no doubt what so ever that since this clan was formed, we as older gamers now have a "social club" if you like where we can escape to. We have met up and continue to plan meets into the future *see EXpoo further down the page, and I think I can safely say ACOG is here to stay. Online gaming is more fun with ACOG members than without them. The only difference now is that we are multi-platform, and lets see if we can expand on that.

As it's ACOG's Birthday, we admin have decided to run a little competition between now and Nov 8'th. (MW3 release day.)

You can submit your entries here when you have come up with your best efforts. Only one entry per ACOG, and only one prize per ACOG. So have a good think about them first and give them your funniest lines.

When MW3 is released the competition entry will close and the best one's will be posted on the forum and the 3 winners are to be picked via a poll. In the event that there is a tie, an admin will have the final decision.

For your efforts each winner will receive an MW3 T-shirt in their size.

Prizes will be presented at the EXpoo if the winners are lucky enough to be there.Otherwise it will be posted on to you. JC will arrange for your size when the winners are announced.

AND THEN THERE WERE THREE

If you are not already aware, on the 20'th October Cyantiffic / Bravo6 stepped down as a site admin.(Cue Queen's"Another one bite's the dust") We would like to thank Jason for his efforts in keeping the site in check and running order over the last few years. His admin input will be missed. But, hooray he is not leaving ACOG, glad your sticking around Cyan. Our sweary game nights are great fun, but you have toned it down a bit ?? So now ACOG has head admin Monkums, myself (Digital) and Chancellor JC Daddy running things. We are in the process of determining what our next step will be as far as getting a replacement for Cyan goes, and we will keep you informed of our decision. Keep an eye out as there may well be an admin application post on the forum in due time.

Don't despair ACOG as admin's step down, there is still a strong input from the remaining guy's and sometimes real life takes the lead with ACOG further down the pecking order.

As you are aware we moved our site host in the week 24-28 October and thanks goes out to Monkums on all his hard work during his week off. The new host servers (Hostpapa) should hopefully prove more reliable for us and don't give us any slowing issues like in the past. Thanks also goes out to JC on getting a good deal for us and finding this host. Check the front page on the site for the link should you have any issues on access / posting.

It's crunch time for two of the most anticipated games of 2011. Battlefield 3 and MW3. We have all had an opportunity to play the BF3 BETA and a lot of debate has gone on since it's release. So enjoy them, whatever you decide to buy. Read the reviews /first impressions on the forum if you're still not sure. Some great fun was had by xbox / PS3 ACOG's on launch night.

Don't get me wrong I like to wookie it up at times, but this would really piss me off in game. BF3 on PC I think. Note the bullet trace Rebel as you mentioned it.

BF3 Sniper...Grrr

Sniping is the scourge of warfare games, and if you are good at it as this guy clearly is, you are going to do it. However, to be able to pick off players from miles across the map would ruin any one's game if that sniper cannot been seen, or at least be taken out. I suffered badly with sniper kills in the BETA, just like in MoH. Frankly this puts me off playing. But how are you guy's fairing up ? Is it a game killer ? Or are you jetting in and bombing the Bustards ?

Don't forget guy's, that starting with premium games bought second hand from now on. There is a likely chance you will have to buy an additional "pass" to play online. So if you don't buy new be prepared to cough another £8.00 or thereabouts for multi-player gaming. This isn't a PSN exclusive, this also includes games on xbox too as it's an attempt to recover server running costs from gamers not buying new. It does not effect you if you buy a game new, trade it and buy it back as you would still have the pass code logged against your account. If you bought a premium title recently no doubt you have already encountered this.

Also on this theme. Cyan posted on the cbox on 19'th Oct that any DLC for GT5 was being locked to 1 PSN user account. So if this is the way things are going, then PSN is not going to be "free" for much longer.

On October 10'th there was an update for XBL, but it wasn't the update we were expecting. A lot of new features are on the way for the xbox including the big one, a redesigned dashboard. More details here

Timelords Movie Review

Shark Night 3D was this weeks movie of choice.

This was not the Jaws classic that I remember, does anything come close ? Possibly Deep Blue Sea.

The film starts off with a couple swimming in a lake, boyfriend wonders back into the the camp site after some foreplay in the water, lobbing his girlfriends bikini top just over head head so she goes out to get it and is walking back in.....I'll leave this bit for you to imagine.

Anyway the usual story a group of 7 University Undergraduates head off to Louisiana Bayou for a weekend of fun at one of the girls from the group lake cabin. Loads of scenes of the birds in bikini's and some boob shots (although this is no Piranha 3D) it was almost as good though. Although you can't beat Kelly Brook in 3D anyhow that's Piranha 3D. (worth watching also). Coincidentally this is getting a sequel called Piranha 3DD. Sorry the title made me smirk, go on admit it you did too.

There are plenty of limbs being bitten off although you don't see this. Fins breaking the surface of the water. There are the usual underwater scenes, not knowing if a sharks going to come out of nowhere etc. Some quite tense moments, one or 2 jump moments when your least expecting anything. The film comes across as a bit of a cross between Deliverance, Jaws (for obvious reasons), and a little bit of Hostel in it too. It does have some B movie moments in.

However it made you want to know what was going to happen in the next scene and kept you on the edge of your seat. Overall I thought this was gonna be cheesy, maybe if I seen just the ordinary version but the 3D was good when the 3D parts happened. A few times I almost spilt my drink from moving. The sharks were quite well done too, obviously some of them were possibly fake, but they looked real enough to me.

Overall I'd give this a 3 shark fins out of 5 (1 being bad , 5 being good), a worthy movie if your after some fun and excitement to watch or even just to veg out on the sofa with the Mrs on those special embargo wife nights, maybe not with some of the younger kids as you don't want them being scared of getting in the water. Then again after seeing Jaws etc did you go swimming in the sea, bet you didn't.

Every month I spend quite a bit of time putting together this BLOG for you to read, and it's no easy task.I am constantly updating and finding features that would be of interest to us, and that we may not have seen . So if you think you could add something (like TL is) to it's content, or there is some regular input you would like to see, let me know. It's okay me banging on here, but if it's not interesting or relevant and you have some idea's then feed it back to me please. The day to day news within ACOG plays out in the cbox or on the forums, so it's no good me including it in here as that's like reading a newspaper from 1970 by the time the BLOG goes out. Feedback is very welcome good or otherwise.

The Expo has come and gone and what a day it was for ACOG, some guy's made it a weekend and no one was MIA. The photo's that have been posted and the beer consumed show that a good time was had by all who attended. But what about the games that were on display ?

What was the verdict on MW3 & BF3 from the ACOG Clan ?
Well with the BF3 BETA causing some downbeat reviews since it went public, and MW3 being the franchise that it is. It looks like it will be another choice of preference for ACOG. MW3 will be undoubtedly the most popular title amongst us, with the odd few playing BF3 every now and again, right ?

Next year we will have a choice of Gaming venues to choose from for an ACOG meet. The Euro_Gamer Expo in London, or GAMEfest at the NEC in Birmingham. Roll on 2012.

Fancy a new not so shiny XBOX 360 done out in MW3 styley?

As the xbox already has the capability to stream 1080P HD content direct there should be no requirement for Blu-ray to be included in the hardware. However, we have seen multiple disc's for some games (LA.Noire,upcoming BF3) then a need for a larger capacity format on the xbox is needed. Watch this space.....

I have spoken in the last couple of BLOG's about PSN Pass / Uplay, well read this and see if free gaming is coming to an end on the PSN ?

Timelords Movie Review

TL has agreed to write a small review of what he thinks is the best film he has seen in the past month. Here is TL's first one :

Well being a sci if nut (Dr Who, Red Dwarf, Star Trek, Star Wars etc) I thought I would write about Apollo 18 having seen it recently. This was directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego.This is his first English-language film.

This film is about the officially canceled Apollo 18 mission which was allegedly launched in December 1974 but this never returned. Since then there has been no more expeditions to the moon by the United States. Missions 19 and 20 were also cancelled.

The film was shot in a mockumentary found footage style, which is supposedly the lost footage of the Apollo 18 mission that was only recently discovered.

When the movie started I thought ,oh great another handy cam style movie like Blair Witch and Cloverfield. This was soon forgotten as there was footage of JFK talking about the space race which dragged you into the movie. Once it started I was wanting to know what happened from the start.

3 astronauts went up 1 stayed in Orbit while the other 2 guys go to the moon surface to collect samples and plant a beacon which was supposed to detect missiles if fired by Russia (USSR).

Things started happening, strange noises outside, things got disturbed and you never really know what's going on. Your led to believe that they are not alone possibly or something weird is happening, so they go off to find out what's happening. A few surprises and scares along the way made for me an enjoyable movie as I love being scared in a movie. I like the ending as it explains what happened, but your still left wondering. Which makes for a discussion on the car journey home.

Was this a movie worth seeing, in both my opinion and my cousin we both agreed after coming out of the cinema that it was well worth the watch as it was something different. Plus you are left wondering at the end,was it true or another conspiracy theory? If your interested in the Apollo missions or the Space Race, then this movie was and is worth watching. Give it a go you may find yourself asking yourself surely were not alone in this Universe....

Overall I'd give this movie a Dalek rating of 1 being bad 5 being good. A solid 4 Dalek's.

GAMEFEST SPECIAL

So myself, Rebel & Slickers attended the first Gamefest at the Birmingham NEC, and first impressions were good. It seemed more organised that the Expo, and by that you could see where the sponsors money had gone. You couldn't miss the MW3 stand and next to it on the right was a smaller BF3 stand. We had a quick wander around to scope out the queue's, and my god were they long !!

Playing with a Disney game........(Testing for their children) yea right !)

We decided to queue for MW3 as it made no difference to how long we would wait to play 1 of the 2 most anticipated games of the year. After approx 2.5 hrs we got in to MW3, wow ! The games table seated 14 and looked like the table from the war room in Dr Strangelove..There were about 40 consoles (all xbox) enabled for us to play. The game was Spec ops in the Paris level. Slickers took up a position at the table, while Rebel and I had to stand at the other side. The game fired up and instantly it looked slick. Nice crisp graphics, the AI that came at you was very intelligent using cover to shoot from and also going to prone when shot at ! Although Rebel and I had headsets on it wasn't until a short while into the game that we realised we were paired up. Wave after wave came at you and you were attacked from all sides, not just 1 spawn point but at least 4 different spawns of AI. Rebel and I managed to get to level 14 the Juggernaut before time was up.....we were buzzing after that.

After a short refreshment visit to the beer tent, we endeavoured to join the queue for BF3. Another approx 2.5 hrs and we were in. This was different though. The Battlefield guy's needed to give you a "briefing" ?? This turned out to be a sales pitch as to why you should pre-order the game, this wasn't necessary. This to me seemed like a desperate tactic to try and push the game while they had you captive. One thing that was interesting from their sales pitch, was that in the Physical Warfare pack you had the ability to block for a split second a melee knife attack from behind to prevent your dogtags being taken.The big drawback that Rebel and I noticed over the Euro_Gamer Expo was the over 18 games section . There wasn't one ! you had to join a queue for x hrs just to view a rated game, where as at Euro gamer you were able to see all the rated games if you didn't fancy queueing. Back to BF3. We got to play Operation Metro Squad Rush which was on the PS3. When the game started I hung back and had a nose around the park area where we spawned, and I thought it looked stunning. The detail was fantastic and you could see the Frostbite 2.0 engine was a winner. As the game we were playing was 24 players there was plenty going on. My gun seemed to have to much recoil for my liking, but it was a low level gun. We soon destroyed the M-COM's and went to move on, this is where I started to get lost. I got hung up on a section of the map thinking it was the direction to go in.(It did say BETA in the top right of the screen though.) You were then led into the underground area of the game for the next rush. The lighting effects looked great to me, but I wasn't feeling the "buzz" as I did with MW3 ? We fought on in an area where the tiles were being shot from the walls and glass was breaking around us, but we were cut short and did not get to complete the level. When I left the table, and Rebel & Slickers felt the same. We didn't feel the same as when we came off MW3. This is our opinions on a game that we only got to get 10 mins of playtime with. To be fair to BF3, it needs more team time to evaluate as it's not so fast as MW3.

We had a quick scout around again before Rebel & Slickers left for home and I wandered some more to check out the entire show. I found Goldeneye reloaded and had a play. I loved Goldeneye on the N64 and I still love it, bit after playing the visually superior MW3 & BF3 it left me feeling that it could have done better.

The Aston Martin was great though

I then moved on to Batman Arkham City. now I don't play these type of games usually and as is with this game series so far was very moody. The characters were good and the gameplay was quick and smooth, so if this is up your street it will not disappoint.

I also got to see Uncharted 3 which is to me a visually stunning game and the best SP you can get on the PS3. The multi-player looked equally stunning but third person view is not my favourite, so making this an SP only for me then trade as I have done with all the previous Drake outings. Assassins Creed Revelations was next, now this game again looked very good with the characters movements and appearance second to none.But I watched some game play for a while and found myself getting bored..so I moved on.

I went to the Turtle Beach stand and wow the PX5 headset is on my wishlist

Next I visited BoysStuff.co.uk stand and there it was all about gaming chairs. They had the model 1 up from the X-Rocker Vision I am offering in the next competition, but looks almost identical. It had a real kick in the back from it's subwoofer and it was comfortable, the only thing is that it is quite a big chair so make sure you have room for it. I also tried out a chair called The Ultimate,that was fantastic. It had a massage function as well as a recliner back and foot rest. You could set the chair to gently massage your back while gaming or switch it to vibrate function which then vibrates in time with your controller ! It also had a holder for your beer, so it really was the Ultimate. The price....The Ultimate was £349.99 and the X-Rocker Dream was £189.99, so start saving the pennies.

All in all the Gamefest was a big success, and I feel that when it returns next year (and it will as it sold out all days) it would be a better prospect for us as a clan to all meet at rather than London.If xbox sponsor it again be prepared to play with a console controller from "The Darkside" as Playstation was the under dog at this years event. What the future holds we will see.

So to those of you going to The Euro_Gamer Expo next weekend 24'th Sept have a good time, let us know your input on the BF3 / MW3 debate and look forward to a good few months gaming.

Well it's not long now, in about 2 months the biggest FPS franchise of all time hits our consoles with it's follow up to MW2.

The long awaited sequel to the game that got ACOG together.After last years COD:Black Ops was a disappointment for us Clan wise, it is still the game to own and play online.

The Call of Duty franchise developed by Infinity ward and published by Activision broke from it's WW2 tradition in 2007 with Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, it was the first game in the series to have the M for mature rating too. Treyarch have contributed to the development of the COD series by introducing Zombies into the mix with the 2008 release of Call of Duty : World at War. Some die hard fans have mixed feelings about the games development by these companies with each having it's fans and haters.But say what you will, there's no denying that when a COD title comes up for release there is a phenomenon surrounding it. MW3 is being co-developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games with Raven Software also assisting.

Modern Warfare 3 is due in our sweaty little hands on Nov 8'th. The anticipation surrounding this game has been immense, and with the release of Battlefield 3 just a week prior to this, a lot of comparisons have taken place. We today are concentrating on MW3.
The game will see the return of Task Force 141 Captain John "Soap" MacTavish, former SAS Captain John Price and Russian informant Nikolai who are on the run after killing the rogue U.S. Army Lieutenant General Shepherd. Russian Ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov will also reprise as the game's primary antagonist. Several new playable characters have been added, including Derek "Frost" Westbrook and Sandman, a pair of Delta Force operatives in New York City; Marcus Burns, a Sergeant in the Special Air Service fighting in London; and Yuri, a Russian federal security agent. Wallcroft from Call of Duty 4 will also return in the game.

New non-playable characters that have been confirmed so far include Truck and Grunt, who form part of the Delta Force fire team alongside Frost and Sandman. A Delta Force operative named Grinch was announced, with Tobey Maguire voicing.

The game will immediately follow the events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, where the Russian Federation continues its invasion of the USA, and has also expanded its offensive to Europe, including England, France and Germany. Campaign stages are also planned for Somalia, Sierra Leone, Moscow and Dubai. Gameplay videos from E3 2011 in Los Angeles showed Delta Force soldiers forcing a Russian submarine to surface in the East River and boarding it before taking part in a mission to destroy a radar jamming installation on top of the New York Stock Exchange.

The released teaser trailers back in May 2011 came in 4 parts, radio transmissions and night vision were the order of the day. Here is all 4 teasers in one video :

That was all you got to wet your appetite, but the internet and COD fan sites were awash with rumour and speculation, the teasers had done their job.Then came the awesome looking Reveal Trailer :

Before this though there was some excellent live action "spoof" video released of "Find Makarov" which got a lot of people excited :

By now there were lots of Youtube videos showing analysis of what can be expected in the game, speculation on what Perks / Killstreaks were on offer, and what the COD fans would like to see. So here is the full list :

MW3 Killstreaks

There are 3 Separate killstreak tiers, you have to choose which tier you want to choose you’re 3 killstreaks from, but if you choose the last tier, you just get exactly what it says.

Assault Tier Killstreaks:
4 Kills – Care Package
5 Kills – IMS – 3 or 4 placeable landmines that cannot be stunned or flashed
5 Kills – Predator Missile
5 Kills – Sentry Gun
6 Kills – Precision Airstrike
7 Kills – Attack Helicopter
7 Kills – Little Bird Flock – Mini Helicopters which patrol the map
9 Kills – Little Bird Guard – Big Helicopter that follows you from above and protects you
9 Kills – Mortar team – Mortar team but with 5 predator missiles – all go off at the same time in different places
10 Kills – Talcon – Mini Tank Robot
12 Kills – AC130 (We cheer!)
12 Kills – Pavelow
15 Kills – Juggernaught Suit – From spec Ops ( For anyone who says in the spec ops video he gets it at 14 kills, well that's because he has hardline on)
15 Kills – Osprey Gunner Cps – You control a chopper gunner that also drops an emergency airdrop for your team mates.

Support Tier Killstreaks:
4 Kills – UAV
5 Kills – Counter UAV
5 Kills – Ballistic Duffel – Drop Juggernaught perk for the whole team, not jugg suit
5 Kills – Airdrop Trap – Drops a hacked care package
8 Kills – Sam Turret
10 Kills – Remote [Missile] UAV – Target enemies with missiles
12 Kills – Advanced UAV – Blackbird
12 Kills – Remote Turret – Sentry Gun that you can control
12 Kills – Stealth Bomber
18 Kills – EMP

18 Kills – Escort Airdrop – Same as the Osprey Gunner but you don't control the gunner or chopper and Drops 5 care packages, one will be hacked

Specialist Tier Killstreaks (you have the opportunity to choose the perk each time):

4 Kills – Get another perk
6 Kills – Get another perk

Another thing is that the killstreaks will cycle through in the same life, so you don't have to die to reset your killstreaks and get your first killstreak again.

MW3 DeathStreaks

Juiced [Lightweight] – 4 Deaths
Martyrdom – 4 Deaths
Final Stand – 4 Deaths
Revenge (Last person that killed you is always visible on your mini map) – 5 Deaths
Stopping power for one kill – 5 Deaths

MW3 Perks

MW3 Pointstreaks

Rather than standard killstreaks for objective based games, pointstreaks will be rewarded to players who play the objective (i.e. capturing flags, defusing bombs etc.) and get kills to encourage players to play the objective rather than just get kills in objective based game types. The streaks will be awarded based on points that the payer has received.

Now things are really hotting up. The release of The Spec Ops Survival Mode video looks just incredible with wave after wave of ever increasing AI, including Dogs packed with explosive pouches !

Spec Ops Survival Mode

We as a clan could make this Spec Ops mode into something interesting alongside any league we decide to run. Pair up with a buddy and wreak havoc, building that score and see who is the best Survival team ? What makes the Survival Mode a bit different is the enemy AI respawn. There will be no fixed respawn like in the Zombie series of games, instead AI will respawn in tactical positions according to the player's locations. Spec Ops Survival Mode will also be playable on ALL multiplayer maps.

We all like a shiny medal, so here are the supposed Prestige Medals available to us in game :

The developers of MW3 have included a "Colour Blind" support system to help those in need of this facility too, the first ever game to do so. There has been some debate over framerate as MW3 will run 60fps, and BF3 will run 30 fps on consoles, this has caused a lot of speculation amongst fans comparing the two.

The E3 2011 gameplay footage went one further and showcased a level called " Black Tuesday" which was looking incredible. Take a look :

It's also been announced that along with the game Call of Duty Elite will be running for those of us that like to know about stats. This will be a free / subscription based service created by Beachhead Studios for the multiplayer portion of MW3 as well as Call of Duty : Black Ops. Those of us that have been playing on xbox live and have Beta access, can tell you that it is pretty amazing at what you can learn from your in game playing style / statistics. Here are some screenshots of what to expect :

Career

Career being your all time statistics, which you can compare to your friends and can even take a look at friends set ups and game style should you wish to know how they always get the drop on you.

Connect

Connect is straight forward it allows you to customise who you want to play COD with or against. You can have featured tags ie : ACOG and then see your groups progress, and who in that group is top of the leader boards.

Compete

Compete allows you to enter competitions to win "Real world " prizes as they are announced. This looks like it's going to be Lone Wolf or Group Competition out in the open.

Improve

Improve is what it says. You can look at your set ups and see which one is your strongest / weakest and see what can be "tweaked" to help you improve. This includes all weapons / attachments / perks and maps.

Now you will have access to Elite, but it will be limited for non subscribers. Those of you who do decide to pay for the service will also get "Free" DLC when it's available. As of yet no confirmed price has been announced for this service.

What about the Weapons I here you cry ! Well to hype you up some more here you go :

Some old favourites there, including one I hate (1887 shotgun). Although it has been rumoured that "Quick Scoping" will return, the fast pace of the game should make "Camping" a lot harder to do.

So there you have it, MW3 in all it's glory. Most of the ACOG clan already have this on pre-order, some will wait and grab it at midnight launch. The price varies from the full retail price of £54.99 down to £37.97 at Tesco, using discount code 10COD-1 (valid at time of writing). So if you were unsure about getting this, and I doubt it, sign up, join the queue, because it is going to be one hell of an FPS time.

Another month has come and gone and August was a turning point for ACOG, as the Clan ventured into the wild with an entry to CODXP.........

Four members of the XBOX ACOG fraternity attended the COD BLOPS Championships on Sunday 7'th August. Rebel_Badshot, Poorash,Boothrider & Slickers, and they were all ~~managed~~, kept in check by Monkums. After the guy's Saturday night "Training session" on the alcohol free lager (Ha ha), and an early night (cough). They were ready for action against some proper talent, 32 teams in total attended. After a slow start by the organisers they finally got down to their games Video & League tables here CODXP . A BIG THANK YOU to the guy's for taking the time and effort to attend at short notice and at their own expense. Next time guy's perhaps more preparation will be available, and some form of Clan Tactics for external games can be thought through. A new era has started for ACOG in gaming events.

Next up this month The Euro_Gamer Expo is here in a few weeks. By now you should all have made your hotel arrangements via Rebel and getting ready for the day trip of a lifetime ! (or weekend). If the expo is not up to scratch the pre-show / after show entertainment will be. This piece of news may warm your cockles in the console battle : PS3 version better than XBOX. Well done to GODS for winning season 7, with EASY coming second, HUNG coming third and FFS! limping in last. Well done all, and it seemed to go very well. As Mouse would say "It was in the organisation". Well done Mouse.

Good luck to Deso our Season 8 organiser as a lot of thought has gone into the format for this one. It's been a learning curve in the KO rounds but, can I suggest that if S8 is successful in this format (and I don't doubt that it will be ) that it is adopted for future seasons,and that all spreadsheets / layouts are kept as a master document if it's to everyone's liking ? Now that season 8 is under way, and we have a Champions and Premier league, make sure that if you have any difficulty making Tuesday nights, to inform your respective Captains in time to arrange a sub.

Breaking News (Not) : It seems the fickle clan that is ACOG has decided BLOPS is a good game after all ! It is on the comeback trail with some members even buying the DLC ! Although it had it's issues from day one,(and still does on occasions), it has been a great game to play when it does go right. I think a lesson to be learnt here, let's not be hasty when we first buy our games and trade them at the first sign of trouble, but give them a chance and enjoy them, and not make them our league game of choice until we are certain all is OK. Don't forget, as I said in last months BLOG. Most new premium titles will come with a one use on-line code with the game, and may have to be repurchased if you trade it in and then buy another pre-owned copy.

This Blog is a Battlefield 3 special for all you guy's interested in one of the best looking FPS titles ever produced. It's getting close now, it's just about 2 months until you can play this game.

What do we know about DICE (Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment) an EA company based in Stockholm Sweden.They started out in the 90's creating title's like Rallisport Challenge and the Battlefield Series, these titles helped them become the number one game developer in Northern Europe. Their first game was Pinball Dreams in 1992, and a less convincing game Horse & Pony 2 in 1998 ? It wasn't until 2002 when Battlefield 1942 was released that the road to great FPS gaming started. Once DICE realised that they had a winning franchise on their hands, that the series developed. 2004 Battlefield Vietnam, 2005 Battlefield Modern Combat, 2005 Battlefield 2, 2006 Battlefield 2142, 2008 Battlefield Bad Company, 2009 Battlefield Bad Company 2, 2009 Battlefield 1943, and eventually the DLC content for BFBC2, With Vietnam and Onslaught modes being introduced in 2010, the Vietnam DLC is like a game all of its own with a soundtrack that draws you in.Don't forget that in 2010 they also produced Medal of Honour. Now 2011 the biggest and best looking of all, Battlefield Bad Company 3 is due for release on October 28'th, and is one of the most eagerly awaited titles of the year.

As with the Call of Duty series, the Battlefield franchise has it's fair share of fans and haters. PC gamers will have enjoyed this franchise more as they are the ones who more often remind us console users that it was their baby. The Battlefield franchise is often compared to the COD series as the genre is the same, and comparisons will always be drawn when they go head to head, especially if they have a release date within a week of each other!

Battlefield 3 is powered by the Frostbite 2 game engine, this is a new version of the original developed in 2008 for Battlefield Bad company.It has gone through 3 revisions, Frostbite 1.0,1.5 and now 2, not 2.0. DICE showed BF3 at the E3 Expo June 7-9 at the Los Angeles convention centre this year and walked away with no less than 40 awards and 60 best of E3 nominations, that's impressive for a game that has yet to be released. It has also just won Best Game in Show at the Gamescom in Germany on Aug 18'th. When you watch some of the in game footage it's hard to imagine that one day video games could have looked this good. Just think when you first started playing video games it may have been on a Magnavox Odyssey in 1972, NO! Your too young to remember.Then perhaps it was on an Atari, Intellivision or even a NES. Perhaps you started on a Spectrum or Commodore 64 before moving on to a Gameboy or PS1. Whatever it was, looking at your PS3 or XBOX today and watching the picture on your HDTV while playing these games is phenominal.

These screenshot's show the detail and sharpness unimagined in a game as far back as 10yrs ago.

Those of us that play Battlefield Bad Co 2 will tell you what a great team based game it is, and with the introduction of the Vietnam option brought in hours of extra game play. I have spent a good few hours with Cyber,GarryMc,Cyantiffic,Mart_B and others, trying to get the Hardcore medals in onslaught mode only to be thwarted at the last minute by the intelligent and unforgiving AI.

If you are going to buy MW3 this year then you really ought to consider this one too. Unparalleled Vehicle Warfare — The best online vehicle warfare experience gets even better with a fitting sonic boom as fighter jets headline an impressive lineup of land, air and sea vehicles. I feel that this is going to be my go to game in the next few months after release. For once I want to complete a game, and look forward to playing the SP mode as this has been promised to be just as good as MP.

Hello guy's the month's are flying by now,it's August and it'll soon be Christmas ! The kid's are off school getting on your nerve's, so's the wife, possibly ? A few of you have been lucky enough to have been away on holiday already,some for 3 weeks.(You know who you are), other's may be going away soon. So here is the latest round-up of what's happening and what's coming up.

I want to start with PSN PASS / UPLAY, or whatever you want to call it. Just as I posted last month's BLOG I noticed information on this emerging.What's this I hear you say ? You may well ask. I mentioned this in my first BLOG,so could this be the end of free on-line premium gaming on the PS3 ? PSN PASS (Sony) / UPLAY (Ubisoft) appears to be like the on-line battle codes needed for Homefront (THQ) & Medal of Honour (EA).If you purchase a game new, the PSN Pass / UPLAY is included, but if you want to get a pre-owned copy of a game then you will have to purchase a further on-line pass code to redeem or access on-line content. So it seems that the pre-owned market is about to take a big hit, including the rental market as Sony are not supporting this either.It has been said that this program will be game specific, so premium games could end up costing you to play on-line with friends if bought as pre-owned.(We won't be as quick to trade them in the future.) UBISOFT's UPLAY has been priced at £8 or 800 MS points if you want to go play on-line. UPLAY is being introduced in Driver: San Francisco out in late September.

As stated *in a blog post by Sledgehammer Games VP and COO Michael Condrey,* Modern Warfare 3 will offer a Colour Blind Assist mode for those impacted by color vision deficiency.
To play this game competitively, you definitely want the playing field to be as equal as possible.Not having a problem with this, I hadn't given much thought to how differentiating teams could be tough, visually, for some people.
Making a point to promote this feature's inclusion will hopefully remind other developers to implement similar modes in their games as well. Same goes for configurable controls.
At long last games developers are starting to recognise this problem and make the game more enjoyable for all.Some of you guy's could not play the "Jungle" map in BLOP's because of this, well now jump in and kick some ass!!

Those of you still playing Red Dead Redemption there is a free DLC pack coming next month called : Myths & Mavericks Bonus Pack which will include new characters and levels for certain game modes, grab the bag etc.It comes out in September if you fancy it.

Call of Juarez : The Cartel has had mixed reviews * Stuff , this is just one of them. Why is it that a game looks so promising but fails to deliver ? Did you get it ?

This month see's the penultimate questions in the Uncharted 3 : Drake's Deception Competition.It ends next month and the winners will be announced after 27'th Sept,and it has gone quick too. If you played the BETA you will know that it is a third person shooter and not to everybody's taste. However, the single player game play is where it's all at, the story, graphics and epic scenery will have you enjoying every minute of it.It is released in November for those of you interested and not lucky enough to win. Mrs Umeji is 99 yrs old and plays Bemberman every day, and has done so for the past 26 yrs ! Bomber was released on Nintendo Famicon in December 1985.Not only does Mrs Umeji play Bomberman, she excels at it.The Sendai resident clears the final 50'th stage regularly with ease.During her daily Bomberman sessions,she starts at the first stage and continues until she finishes the game no problem.
Before she put's the Bomberman cartridge in, she even give's it a gentle blow to clear out any dust.

Every. Single. Day.

"Playing Famicon keep's me from going senile."

It usually takes her about 21/2 hrs to clear the game,but on days when Mrs Umeji is on fire,she can clear the game twice.Mrs Umeji said she thinks the game is good at helping her keep her mind active.Gaming isn't her only hobby.Even at 99 yrs old,she still enjoy's needlework and is able to thread the needles herself.

Lastly this month, you will notice that Monkum's has started his site "clean up" and asked you about the layout. If you haven't looked at his post's then make sure you do or you might loose something that you liked about the ACOG site.You will also have noticed features being added too. But this may be short lived, as you may have seen Rebel has received a letter telling him to remove the ACOG site as it breaches IP infringement copyright.This has come from the manufacturer of the ACOG gun sight Trijicon in America who it look's like, wants the ACOG URL.Watch this space ??

When he was truly satisfied, she poured him a cup of steaming coffee. As she poured the coffee he noticed a £5 note stuck to the bottom of the mug. "All this is too wonderful for words" he said, "But what's the £5 note for?"
"Well" she said " Last night I told my husband that it was your last day at the job and we should do something special for you" "I asked him what to give you?"
He said "Fuck him, give him a fiver"

It's July already and it's BLOG time again ,and at last summer's here isn't it ? Monkum's has asked me to advise you that during the coming month you may notice things appearing & disappearing on the ACOG site.It is undergoing some housekeeping so bear with us and all will be right in the end.He will be posting on the forum for you to comment about site content as well.

E3 was last month with some great games announced and a plethora of information given about our 2 favourite FPS titles.(BF3 & MW3) **E3 Special BLOG has more detail.
The rivalry between BF3 & MW3 looks to be increasing with debates over the frame rate of the upcoming releases :** Frame rate debate What's your opinion ? Will this impact on your enjoyment of the game ?

Whether you are a COD fan or not, thanks to BLOPS. This upcoming MW3 title looks sweet,there is a Spec-Ops Survival mode which will be great as a Clan team based competition in the making.
This mode play's out on the multi-player maps with on-line co-op mode, and the SP mode will play as per the traditional Spec-Ops from MW2. The on-line Survival requires you and a team mate to survive ever growing waves of attackers that include : Attack dogs,Suicide Bomber dogs,Kamikaze Soldiers and different types of Juggernauts.If that wasn't enough then there is also Chopper gunners to contend with ! There's an unlimited number of waves of attackers, so the fighting will be intense. (Perhaps a 2 man Team based Clan league here for who can reach the highest wave?)
The latest news for MW3 is that the killstreak system is to be altered :** Killstreak changes This could mean a fairer system for us, but we will have to wait and see.
HOT OF THE PRESS : MW3 Closed BETA ? Fake or Real ?

Over at EA there is controversy about the Pre-order "Physical Warfare Pack" for the limited Edition version of BF3 being classed as unfair? It seems that whatever is offered for a pre-order sweetner someone in "The Community" is not going to like it...But hey, I'm getting it so if it gives me an advantage I'm taking it !
It has also been announced that BF3 will have night maps now to, and at least 100,000 weapon combinations with 3 slots to every weapon....drool.

Friday nights are making a comeback for us as a Clan, we have had a few good one's the last couple of weeks.The free PS+ download of Burnout Paradise has been a big hit with some ACOG's,and has given us a great laugh at a few of our Driving Skills..cough! It made a change from shooting someone that's for sure.
PS+ will be coming to an end for some of us soon as our 30 day freebie expires,but will you pay to extend it ? (If you have not got your free PS+ by now you've missed out I'm afraid as it ended on 05'th July, after a 2 day extension.)

On another note BLOPS released "Escalation" DLC at the beginning of June, and now have released another one "Annihilation" on the XBOX first as usual. I know some of us dumped BLOPS a while back but it does play well occasionally and when there are no issues. Some of us still play on PS & XBOX and last Friday night a few of us had some games with play being hit and miss again,just like old times but fun nonetheless. But, I'm not sure I want to keep buying all this DLC for it, although if I don't get it I feel like I'm missing out ?(I caved in and got Escalation, and I'm loving the new maps) Another DLC has possibly been outed too,so watch this space.

XBOX news : There have been reports that a new XBOX may be announced at E3 2012 see here : **New XBOX? If that does become true then surely PS4 wont be far behind :** PS4 + **PS4 .
It's also been reported that a PS3 only graphics feature has been enabled for XBOX : **MLAA
As I have not played much on the XBOX yet,It's also been revealed that the original controller is to make a comeback. Known as "The Duke" it looks big and bulky, but a mixed reaction to it's return judging by some comments posted on various XBOX websites., and it's mahoosive !**The Duke
"The Cloud" is mentioned a lot nowadays so it's without suprise that XBOX is to get it's own "cloud" based storage system enabling gamers to recover data to any console. XBOX Cloud . This is also available through PS+ on PS3.

OH DEAR.....Duke Nukem Forever,or is it R.I.P Duke as some of the comments have not been very complimentary about his comeback.I know some of us have been playing this, but was it a big disappointment to you ? Metacritic was one not being very nice about Duke Nukem, so I think I will wait until it's a pre-owned bargain before I give it a go.

The COD4 Season 6 is at an end and Team CNUT did not have the best of starts and it hurt being at the bottom of the table, but as I am a "Dirty Shift Worker" I did not help the situation, and Cybermanc was coaxed into the fold but it was too late. Team DIVA did their best to put up a fight but in the end Team BUM triumphed by a very narrow margin,with Team ACME coming in third. It was probably our most frustrating season with various issues on a COD title after the BLOPS fiasco, thanks to the PSN / maintenence holding us back at the beginning etc.So let's hope we have better luck with League Season 7, and as Mouse is running it I'm sure it will be.

We as a CLAN continue to enjoy GT5 with season 2 just starting,TW12 with season 2 under way soon.Burnout Paradise,KZ3,BLOPS,BFBC2 and a renewed interest in MW2 with the next season 7 and the 2v2 coming up.Some of you guy's are still persevering with FIFA 2011, so I found this for you on FIFA 2012 , RDR seems to have waned a bit though.

Hello ACOG,

This is a New game release / E3 special BLOG for your pleasure, so read and be amazed at what's coming up.
Time to put down the controller and go outside.........Yeah right !!

The game's industry is awash with all sorts of rumours and speculation so we will try and see if there's anything of interest to us.E3 started on Monday 06/06 with lots of big announcements from the major players so here is something for us to look over and get excited about so far.

He's Back ! The Duke lands this week..(10/06)
It has taken 12 yrs for the return of Duke Nukem and what a fun game this is.If you played the original, god haven't things improved.It still has it's tongue in cheek humour and outrageous game play that will have you smiling as you blast those alien pig's. You can see why an M for Mature rating has been issued for this game,dancing girls,lesbian kissing,nudity and lots of obscenity..."Let's Rock"

This next game due for release very soon (28/06) is Call of Juarez: The Cartel. This game seems a cross between Red Dead Redemption & GTA IV.Unfortunately this game only has 3 player Co-op on-line experience so nothing that will float the ACOG boat but the SP may be worth trying?.If you are getting this let us know your thoughts.

The ACOG membership now stands at just below 100, and this now includes 1 xbox only member Carl1213 and at least 10 dual-console owners with the PS3 as well.
I said in the last BLOG that XBOX would now be included so here is some news for you.

At E3 opening Monday was XBOX overload with announcements galore,not just content and upgrades but also showing what's coming up games wise.There is too much to list so I have included a link to some detailed Microsoft announcements.

So you can see XBOX owners are in for a real treat.If you've not got one, tempted now ??

Truly stunning Battlefield 3,I don't think we can wait to get our hands on this.The video footage that's been released looks amazing, although we are hoping the port to PS3/XBOX will be just as good.It's been suggested that the maps for the consoles won't be as big as they will be on the PC game. If you pre-order The Limited Edition version of this from Game or Gamestation you can get exclusive content "Physical Warfare Pack" (Inc Back to Karkand Map, plus exclusive selected weapons and abilities) and they will only be available from these suppliers.The release date has been announced as 25/10/2011.There was also a Beta announced a month before release too.

Those of us going to The Expo in September will be lucky enough to get a go on the demo (Subject to availability).That's if the queue's not too long, and it don't crash.(Remember Medal of Honour last year!)
We also now know that MW3 is due in November this year on 08/11/11 :

This look's equally amazing, it's a real battle of the FPS games this Autumn / Winter time.We as a Clan will probably end up with both games,some will prefer MW3 other's BF3, but whatever it's going to be good times all round ! I for one will be divided over which one get's the most playtime from me.
As this is a COD title we hope that it's not the big disappointment that BLOPS was as the Clan need's a good MW3 title to play after MW2 kicked us off. It does look awesome though, it's going to be an FPS fest.

Uncharted 3 is also due for release as well around the same time as tthe above. If you like this series of games you wont be disappointed.(One lucky ACOG is going to get a copy for free).Although this is a Third Person Shooter, it will still give you some great game time, including on-line multi-player.Visually this game is one of the best out there on the PS3.Here is the E3 game play video.Beta for this is 28/06 for PS+.

What takes your fancy?

It's been a strange year so far game wise.We've all invested time and money into some new releases, only to trade them in a while later.BLOP's,Homefront,Crysis2,Brink etc.So the latter half of this year going into winter should see us ACOG's having a better time on the PS3 & XBOX with some quality gaming.It's not all been about the guns, which is what makes this Clan great.If members see a game that takes their fancy, we encourage, (cough) others to get it and give it a blast. Peer pressure FTW.

Hello Guys,

Firstly some sad news to report.If you are not already aware Slickers has left ACOG and moved on.We admins were very sorry to see him go, but we wish him all the best wherever he ends up with his on-line gaming.You may have seen the site's recent post so there is not much more to say other than adieu Slick and many thanks.

Summers almost here, and a plethera of gaming awaits us....(Not). Season 6 is finally getting somewhere, but our Clan has a need for a "comfort game", a go to game which we can ALL dip in and play. We are predominantly an FPS gaming clan, but lately what with TW12, L.A.Noire and GT5 we have turned for excitement elsewhere.We now have " ACOG Splinter Cell's" in different games and on different platform's.

There's lot's of teaser's about BF3 & MW3 but nothing appealing for all to actually play NOW ! We have all been turning back to COD4, MW2 and the great BFBC2.(This game is under played by us as a clan in my opinion.)

With the lighter nights, the smell of the barbie and the chance to stay a bit later in the garden with the family is great for us all.But when it's finally quiet, and we want to go on-line where do we go? It's been a while since 18 ACOG's were in the same game.(Except last night Fri 03'rd June which hasn't been seen for a while) MW2 to the rescue.....here's to Friday nights.

Other news: Sony has reported that the PSN downtime cost them approx $171million,but the sales of PS3 hardware rose by 1.3 million units to 14.3million across the globe during 2010. Good news is Sony made $435million on the Playstation brand for 2010. In a recent survey 13% of PS3 user's have switched allegiance to the XBOX because of the downtime due to hackers.

We as a clan have had a few members switch their gaming to XBL during that time and it has impressed them. Although this has happened in ACOG,apart from 1 member, most as of yet have not ditched their PS3's entirely. Are you thinking of getting an XBOX as well as your PS3? What about XBL costs, are they worth paying for a better gaming experience?

The reason I ask this is, it's now known that the new release of MW3 will come with "Elite" on-line gaming. Do you really need to pay for having more access to stats? We had this with WAW and it was free.Did you actually use it to improve your gaming skills? I doubt it.It has been said that this subscription would include any future DLC for the game and on-line prizes.Gimmick maybe,but is it going to keep you paying extra month on month?

This possible new direction of on-line subscription charges for gaming on the PSN could become common place amongst developers, look at Sony with PS+.Is this the way things are heading? Watch this space......

Sony has posted an increased budget for 2011/12 for R&D, the companies Exec VP and Chief Financial Officer Masuru Kato made the revelation to investors via a conference call on 26/05."For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life," he said, "but this is a platform business, so for the future platform - when we'll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that - but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there." Over at Microsoft top tier publishing houses have been rumoured to have received prototype dev-kits for the new XBOX.

Hardware development looks to be in progress on both mainstream platforms, so the race is on ! (PS4 / XBOX 720)

So with some of us now owning XBOX consoles I believe it's time to introduce the XBL experience to ACOG and embrace our new found enjoyment at Bi-console ownership. I will be including XBOX in all future BLOGS, so again if there's anything you specifically want mentioned let me know.

This BLOG will come out close to the start of each month, unless we need to inform you all of something. In which case you will receive notification of it's release.
