back in April 2006, Ruzzo Martinelli – a good friend and president of Keynote Management – sat down with me at a local Starbucks Coffee on Ventura Blvd. to chat about ways to improve the exposure of one of his key recording artists, Venice Maki. the bulk of our conversation centered around blogging – an Internet trend that I had limited knowledge of at the time, and even lesser interest in since I wasn’t a blogger myself. I expected blogging to go away just like many other “trends” and just like many other tech-skeptics. but I agreed that it was a relatively lucrative marketing platform, so I made a promise that day to find someone or some group of people who would go out onto the World Wide Web and flood the listening ears of the people of earth with Venice’s music. that evening, I had some brief discussion with Luci-lu about what blogging really was – and discovered that she knew just about as much as I did about the subject – and spent a bit of my time scouring the Internet for information about this trend. less than two days later, it turned out that I would become that someone we were looking for....and YOU would become that group.

today thiswayisout.com celebrates its 365th day on the Internet!! it’s our birthday..it’s our birthday..it’s our birthday!! as I did back in October 2006, I want to invite you to take a look back on the blog and see all of the great moments we’ve captured of this phenomenal writer, musician and person...and all of those we’ve scrap booked on YOU! discover our first month, April 2006, when we got our feet wet and actually discovered how to blog, saw Venice featured on VH1.com and Roots Rock LIVE, and posted our first LA show announcement. in May, we added commentary and a photo record of that event (May 18th @ The Mint) -- one of my very favorite posts -- and launched our little blog into the...blog-osphere in the form of RSS syndication on feedburner.com. June 2006 was one of our most active months, with Luci-lu and I taking a trip out to Sedona, AZ for Venice’s second Future Studios appearance (and lots of “natural” fun) , the publishing of our first artist promotional flyers, and celebrating the accomplishments of Gabaricious (Venice’s drummer’s better half). oh, and we also turned 1000 back then!!

in July, Venice went to Portland, we all went to the fair, and, in concert with MusicPlusTV.com’s airing, TWIO was the first to premiere Venice’s music video “Taking Time,” supporting his first U.S. single release. from here we set out south of the border to Mexico with the Fluff & Fold crew, taking Venice outside the boundaries of the United States, sharing knowledge of his music with the locals and passengers of the Royal Caribbean cruise liner Monarch of the Seas. man behind the blog also did his first live interview on the main deck of the ship with Silverlight Entertainment’s Adam Kassoff and David Oliveras, who are looking to secure Venice’s music for the soundtrack of their upcoming feature-length film Watercolors (on which Luci-lu is an executive producer).

along with some more festivals and a trip to the San Diego Chargers’ Qualcomm Stadium, TWIO listeners helped catapult Venice to the very top of the hit Internet radio program Fame Games – a place where he is now again taking it to the Fame Games panel and his counter-parts with “Bound to Crash”. in November we announced our very first listener contest, crowning the 2222nd visitor to the site soon thereafter and showering that listener with prizes (kinda). Christmas time brought great gifts of new ventures as the forming of now hear this began to take shape, and we partnered with Keynote Management and Del Oro Music to help present our first LA concert event, TINSEL ROCK - a great success pulled together in just over two weeks!

in the New Year we all took some time off, though Venice did rock the House of Blues, and Hillary announced that she would do us all the favor of running for President of the United States.

we returned in February to document the culmination of Venice’s Goodwill Ambassadorship to Drug Free America Foundation and his return to Nashville to begin recording new material (which we can’t wait to hear!). and finally, last month and here in the beginning of April 2007, one year later, we have reasserted our commitment to making Venice Maki a household name as he again makes a historical run at Fame Games, attempting to become the only artist in the program’s history to win Track of the Month honors more than once, and with back-to-back submissions. he only needs two more wins to accomplish this, so check out our posts on this subject to help him do it again! (UPDATE: before I could get this posted, it has been announced that Venice has won Fame Games for a third straight week!! ONE MORE KIDS!!)

Senator Hillary Clinton announced today that she will make a run for the White House in 2008. Should she become the Leader of the Free World, she would be the first woman in U.S. History to take this seat.

In a statement announcing her bid on her website hillaryclinton.com, Senator Clinton added: "And I'm in to win."

Venice Maki was the featured performer and a special guest of Senator Clinton at Friday Night with Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2005 in support of her re-election bid to the U.S. Senate.

wow. who puts up a show 3 weeks before Christmas anyway?

WE DO!! and apparently, we do it well!

more than a week has passed and here I am finally finding a moment to share the experience with you...3 events to cover in one weekend, broken cameras to repair, and mounds of commentary and photos to compile makes time fly by fast! of course, even though Fluff & Fold’s Madam President hates to hear about these things: we’ll have to wait for the photos in the background to finish downloading. these things take time....have a glass of your favorite Arbor Mist flavor, Madam Fairydust. meanwhile, let me paint a different kind of picture....

one of gratitude.

a super mega THANK YOU to EVERYONE who helped make TINSEL ROCK at Key Club, Hollywood a success and pulled together for one of the most rapidly produced events of the season! in less than two weeks, Del Oro Music, Keynote Management and now hear this lined up some of the most accomplished and aspiring recording artists, celebrities and industry players for a concert event that brought some holiday cheer to both club goers and disadvantaged kids alike. from David Longoria’s Spanish influenced big-band sound, to Venice Maki’s energizing display of stage prowess, to Stereo Suite’s continuing quest for stardom, to the impressive display of punk & funk by Juliet B. Rock and April Diamond, the dance floor was not lacking in willing rump shakers. at the door, The Salvation Army Band and the venue box office took in toys of many shapes and sizes for distribution to Southern California’s least fortunate kids this Christmas. on the V.I.P. landing, the likes of Brad Pitt, Shin Koyamada and Brad Beyer joined in support of the event, mingling about as the night unfolded.

all in all, the event was a grand success! and now hear this got its grass-roots feet wet, successfully seeding the event and achieving all of its pre-determined goals, leading the event producers to express their utmost appreciation and respect for our efforts and look forward to future collaboration.

until then, enjoy the holiday season by reflecting on all that YOU have been a part of with us, all that YOU have accomplished this year, and all that YOU plan to accomplish in the coming year!!

Hollywood Holidays Unwrapped....
