In this episode I ma discussing our most recent production run of Thoughtful Harvest Pasta Sauces and also how we have changed the labels (already!) to make the flavors more easily recognized.

This episode I’ll discuss some ongoing negotiations with Earth Fare and also discuss the possibility of selling sauce directly to individuals who can then resell to friends, family and small stores. I believe this is a great way to help sell sauce on a grass-roots level and also give our customers a way to earn some side income which most people need these days. Just by handing out samples independent reps can gain new customers from friends, family etc. We have a very high trial-new customer ratio which will drive sales.

Update-so far the internet sales have been much slower then anticipated. I bet people are hesitant to try a new product without tasting it. Because of that we now offer a taste guarantee. Total satisfaction or your money back. We can do this because we’re so confident because about 100 people have tried the sauce and all freaked out.

Our first run went very well although our yields varied slightly from my kitchen formulation mainly due to the size of the kettles and the evaporation that is normal with such a wide area.

We produced the very first inventory of our Thoughtful Harvest Pasta Sauces. We made two varieties….

Sun Dried Tomato & Rosemary

Flame Roasted Red Pepper

Our first run went very well although our yields varied slightly from my kitchen formulation mainly due to the size of the kettles and the evaporation that is normal with such a wide area. So I need to slightly adjust my expected yield so I know how much each kettle will produce.

Overall my flavor objectives were met. These are sauces that are brimming with high-quality, flavorful ingredients, lots of them. Many sauces on the market “say” they have this or that in the jar, and you will find these ingredients, but in very small quantities.

Our competitors sauces are not awful, just the value is not equal to ours. A few big brands that sell millions of jars per year have very little in them. For instance, one flavor that comes to mind is “tomato & basil” made by a big chef. Inside you’ll find 1-2 small pieces of basil in the who jar…and it does not taste like basil.

Om the other hand, our sauces have loads of the “signature” ingredients present. Just look at these photos here….

Sauce on the left is Sun Dried Tomato the other Flame Roasted Red Pepper. See the difference in color? The Sun Dried Tomato has a very dark, burgundy red color from all the sun dried tomatoes in the sauce. Again, I aim for a flavor explosion and a value added sauce that “is what I say it is”. No skimping here. Plenty, I mean plenty of taste.

One thing that may wind up changing is the caps, they are silver with a saftey button. This button works fine at or near sea level, but go west into CO, WY, NE, UT and other high-dessert states and the button will not be depressed. This causes concern for consumers but the sauce is perfectly sealed and has the exact same shelf like (1 year) as jars where the button is depressed. the only diffrence is the altitude.

To solve this we have to switch to a gold colored cap that does not have a button. We wanted silver, but cannot find it in silver without the button.

Gold looks nice..but not as slick as the silver cap. In the near future when sales increase we will customize the cap to include our branding elements.

Please help us by participating in conversations on our Facebook Page…pls “like” us too.

We we finally have product made, it’s been a fairly long road that at some points seemed hopeless. Whether it was artwork challenges, waiting on the FDA, getting in touch with small farms who were not used to have companies buy direct, you name it we waited on it.

Our packing partner proved to be an honorable gent with great management procedures in place, conscientious staff, well maintained facilities and the ability to make huge amounts of product as we grow.

We now are at the point where we need to market sauce. So that’s where we need your help. Things you can do to help:

Buy some sauces!!

Tell a friend about the brand

if you know a good store that might carry the brand let us know where to send pricing and samples

Visit our Facebook Page and like it, and contribute and share it

These things can help us get this brand off the ground..we appreciate your support very much!

Marketing:
We are approaching food bloggers to have them review the products and hold give away contests etc. also we are sending review samples to media outlets such as gourmet type magazines, food editors of local newspapers and large newspapers etc. We are currently sending review samples to bloggers who might be interested in reviewing the products.

New Products:

Once we see some sell thru, we plan on launching several varieties of Thoughtful Harvest Salsa, first up California Green Olive & Cilantro. This salsa is luxury on a chip, really great on scrambled egg burritos or a grilled pork chop. We hop to have it out before the end of September.

We may also have a new hot sauce, one that is used a few drops at a time. Made with all-natural ingredients minus the citric acid, gums and preservatives most others use.

On this weeks show we discussed the regulations required to get an FDA process authority letter needed to process acidified foods. I will be attending the pickle school at NC State University to get my certification when the next class if offered.

We chatted about gettign a Facebook vanity url liek the one we have at Facebook for thoughtful Harvest

Also discussed a potential new vendor called The Grande cheese Company from Wisconsin. I am meeting with the rep this week to pick up samples for testing.
