ThoughtWorks is offering a one-day training course on Amazon Web Services (AWS) for developers, systems administrators and all technologists who want to embark on a hands-on deep-dive of Amazon's powerful AWS tools. Developed in conjunction with Amazon, the class will lead you through the AWS infrastructure services, and show you how to architect and deploy your applications “in the cloud”.

Reasons to attend:

Learn how Amazon EC2, S3, EBS, VPC, CloudFront and other services work together to form a scalable web architecture
Gain hands-on experience provisioning machines, managing storage, caching content at network endpoints, and more

Software design in the 21st century

In the last decade or so we‘ve seen a number of new ideas added to the mix to help us effectively design our software. Patterns help us capture the solutions and rationale for using them. Refactoring allows us to alter the design of a system after the code is written. Agile methods, in particular Extreme Programming, give us a highly iterative and evolutionary approach which is particularly well suited to changing requirements and environments. Martin Fowler has been a leading voice in these techniques and will give a suite of short talks featuring various aspects about his recent thinking about how these and other developments affect our software development.

Speakers

Martin Fowler - renowned author, software consultant and speaker - brings two decades of experience helping corporations utilise object technology for mission-critical information systems. He has worked with clients like UK National Health Service, Chrysler, Citibank, Netscape and Andersen Consulting, pioneering object-oriented design and Agile methods. He was one of the authors of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development. He has written five books on software development, and collected a few awards for them. He's also a highly regarded speaker at international conferences, although these days he prefers to stay off the stage.

Vivek Prahlad is a Principal Consultant for ThoughtWorks Singapore. Prior to that, he was Delivery Manager at ThoughtWorks Studios, where he helped build Twist, a next generation Functional Testing tool. During his career, Vivek has also worked as a Technical Lead, Agile Coach, and Project Manager. Vivek is the author of Frankenstein, an open source testing tool for Swing applications.

ThoughtWorks is touring around Brazil in June. Join us if you’d like to learn more about us!

ThoughtWorks is a company that has always been synonymous with revolutionary software and software practices. It’s likely you’ve read the work of our Chief Scientist Martin Fowler and evaluated some of our tools like Go and Mingle. What’s really defined our success is our ability to bring together technologists who are passionate about quality and business value, and possess the talent to deliver on it.

We opened our first office in South America, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in December of 2009. We have quickly reached the mark of 130 employees and are now opening a new delivery center in Recife, but we want more. We want to storm the gates of the old ways of delivering software and free our clients’ horizons, all the while keeping our minds on how to change the world for the better.

To do this, we want you.

Whether you have just started your programming career and are itching to tackle the big and interesting problems, or have been in the market for a while and are trying to find out even better ways to do what you excel at, we would love to hear from you.
