<p>There was no sleeping in this morning as it was the first Sunday of May! What does that mean? It means that all the major museums in Paris will have a long line-up waiting the visitors as there&#8217;s free admission!</p> <p>We knew that we wanted to spend quite a few hours (and ended up being most of the day) at the Louvre since it is massive in size, not to mention that it holds some of the world&#8217;s most famous paintings, including the Mona Lisa. We had also hoped to visit a portion of <a href="http://www.musee-orsay.fr/en/home.html">Musée d&#8217;Orsay</a>.</p> <p>We departed the temporary hostel we were staying at 8am and had to make our way to our originally booked hotel to put down all our baggage. The secondary entrance (if you don&#8217;t mind not going in from the main pyramid) took less than 20 minutes. Not bad! To get to it, you have to walk through the Italian Paintings hall and find your way to the room. You can&#8217;t miss it &#8211; everywhere you go, you see her face on the walls with directions leading to it.</p> <p>This was a shot from the hallway, about 50m away from the wall. The sheer amount of people in there with their electronic devices is incredible! You have to sort of move slowly up to the wall. Once up there, you get &#8220;one shot&#8221; and that&#8217;s it &#8211; before you are escorted out of the area (to keep it moving). There was this woman that apparently wanted to stretch her luck. After taking a shot of the painting and had to move out, she ran past the guards and posed &#8211; supposedly wanted her friends to take a photo for her. Needless to say, she was escorted out of the area by 3 guards, haha.</p> <p>Fortunately for me I had the telephoto and already took a &#8220;few shots&#8221;. I also did what every visitor does &#8211; a photo of me and the painting :-P The Mona Lisa is behind a big bullet proof glass &#8211; apparently there&#8217;s been many attempts to ruin it before.</p> <p>And of course, I just &#8220;had to&#8221; take this shot &#8211; even though it&#8217;s all over <a href="http://images.google.com/images?q=Mona Lisa&#038;svnum=10&#038;hl=en">Google Images</a>. A funny thing happened here &#8211; one of the security guards saw me with my telephoto lens and opened her eyes wide and said &#8220;Oh my god!&#8221; (since most other people had small digicams). <p>We came to this Japanese <a href="http://www.plusalfa.com/">restaurant</a> last month on a friend&#8217;s recommendation &#8211; supposedly having good creative rolls and short ribs!</p> <p>The restaurant is located at the corner of Helmcken St. and Richards St., so it&#8217;s not in the middle of a busy intersection, even on a weekend. The food was great with moderate pricing. On their menu you can see from a glance that many of their dishes are &#8220;originals&#8221;, or I guess you can call it &#8220;chef&#8217;s specials&#8221;, though you can still get a regular California roll or Udon like any other Japanese restaurants.</p> <p>We tried many of their speciality rolls as well as the Ebi Mayo and the ribs, which packed a lot of taste! <p>We continue our Eurotrip journey the next day departing London, UK, to our second country, France. In France, we&#8217;re only staying in one city just like the UK, and of course it is Paris! For the next four days Paris will be our home and we&#8217;ll be touring all around the city.</p> <p>Paris was definitely on the top of my to-visit cities in the world. Too often you see it portrayed as one of the most romantic and luxurious cities in the world, on posters, billboards, TV, and movies (of course, Da Vinci Code). With a bit of conversational French under my belt and slightly better reading comprehension of the language, I hope that it would come in handy.</p> <p>Something I&#8217;ve always wanted to do when and if I reach Paris &#8211; speak with the locals in (poor) French, and have a cup of coffee on the streets of Paris, haha.</p> <p>One thing I should mention is that there is free admission to all the museums in France on the first Sunday of every month, so that&#8217;s basically what we planned this whole trip around. There are way too many museums and sights to visit here, but we kept it at a decent pace, not wanting to rush through anything (learning from our experiences in London &#8211; rushing burns us out It was getting late at 10:30pm, but we didn&#8217;t want to miss the night scene. And it didn&#8217;t disappoint at all. I paused for a moment and looked in awe. This is one of those rare moments during the trip where I got the shivers.
