The four hour workweek. For those who are driven to work 80 hours a week this sounds like a bad dream. For those who are realists this sounds utterly ridiculous. For those who are dreamers it sounds absolutely wonderful.

Which camp are you in? Would you like to able to work only four hours a week? Or perhaps somewhere in the middle? If you would like to find more time to do the things you enjoy in life, it doesn’t just happen. You need a plan.

Where are you going with your life? Do you have a plan? If you are an entrepreneur and have your own business you must have had a reason for taking this course of action in the first place. What was it that made you want to step out on your own? It is important to keep this in mind when things get hectic and crazy or you will lose sight of it.

You may be thinking that’s easier said than done when you are so busy it is hard to keep everything going. It isn’t easy but one way to combat the craziness is to manage your time more effectively. If we want to be successful we have to have to keep our main goals in the forefront of our mind and also be able to manage our time on a daily basis.

Let’s be honest – money is not everything. Working yourself into the ground and trying to run the business on your own may result in money in the bank, but what’s it doing to your health, well-being and life plans? You must have dreams and aspirations, but you need to be making steps to turn those dreams into reality, or what’s the point of it all?

It may surprise you to learn that the most successful entrepreneurs on the planet do not work 80 or more hours per week. They may have started out that way but soon realized it is not sustainable. They learned that they had to delegate and outsource to capable and responsible virtual assistants in order to help them plan an overall lifestyle.

No one is really advocating that you should work only four hours per week, but it’s a catchy phrase. You can be actively involved in your organization without becoming stressed, worn out, and burned out. If you delegate or outsource to a virtual assistant you will be able enjoy life and have a successful business.

Take time today to think about what you really want out of life. Where are you going to be in five years or 10 years from now? Are you going to be one of the people who look back on their life and wonder where it went because you didn’t take the time to enjoy it? If so, don’t let your work determine your life plan. Take control and plan to delegate.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Cloning is the sincerest form of flattery” and when it comes to your business you should definitely flatter yourself! If you are like me, you have wished at some point in your life that you could create a clone of yourself just to get everything done. If you’re like me and an entrepreneur or if you operate a small business this is especially true. Being able to rely on someone who knows how we do things and how we like them to be done is invaluable. Many of us feel that there will never be anyone who could possibly know our business as well as we do or do things they way we would. But wait, is that really true? What if you could really hand-off some of your workload and still feel like it is in good hands? Even if your business is moving along quite nicely, just think how much better it would be if you could hand-off some of your workload. You know the saying, “Many hands make light work.”

How is this possible? Unfortunately, we are not able to actually clone ourselves but we can do the next best thing. We all do tasks which could easily be done by someone else. The trick is learning how to let go. I can’t emphasis enough that in order to maximize our success we must learn to give some of our tasks to others to accomplish. The entrepreneur who does not outsource will find it difficult to grow and may be destined for failure in the long run.

We are all talented in our own ways and in that regard we should concentrate on that which we are good at. You may be best at your chosen field of work but the everyday office tasks weigh you down. You could be spending more time growing your business if you could give some of those tasks to someone else. Virtual assistants are particularly good at business maintenance tasks, and with the proper amount of upfront guidance and direction from you will be able to take a lot of heat away from your working day.

You will be surprised when you see that everything is ticking over nicely after having outsourced a sizable portion of the daily grind. You will be able to focus on more important things – like not only business expansion, but also home life, your social interactions, your golf swing and so on!

In broader advertising terms, if you’re not actively involved in promotional activities and if you don’t regularly evaluate where you are, you are essentially “going backwards.” If a business merely accepts its status quo and thinks it is successful, just because it has a steady stream of work coming in, it may not be planning for the unexpected and will not be ready when it happens. Every business should have several plans in place and be continually looking for other opportunities and possibilities.

The typical hard-pressed businessperson will tend to worry about their business’ development and overall operations. They may think they have to micromanage everything to be sure it is done correctly and the way they want it to be done. It is not advisable to begin to manage your business this way because it will be difficult for you to keep the bigger picture in focus. Each day that you have to deal with loads of paperwork, navigate your social media accounts, manage your emails, and handle your internet marketing, you are losing valuable time. You could be using this time to build your business, not to mention spending time with family and friends.

Every business is at a different place in development and need to focus on priorities that will move them to the next level. To accomplish this, there are many tasks and jobs that need to be addressed, if only to make sure that the business operates on a daily basis. Time management here is everything. Let’s say that you devote 60% of your time to your core process. You can’t afford to let the rest of your time be taken up by administrative tasks. No matter how many hours you work each day you must make sure that a you spend a significant amount of time devoted to overall marketing and planning.

It’s good to have a plan for the unexpected but you should also have a detailed plan for expansion. If you don’t plan to expand you most likely won’t. Remember also that your competitors will be making plans as well and if you don’t you will be left behind. Each mundane task is important in its own way, some more than others. You must be sure they all get done but you don’t have to do them all yourself. By contracting qualified and productive virtual assistant services you will be able to outsource many of those tasks. This will give you time to get your bearings but also time to actively plan for the future of your business.

Things may be going along smoothly now but if you try to do everything yourself it’s only a matter of time before you run out of steam. Don’t get caught by surprise, be prepared and plan to delegate well before that happens. You’ll be glad you did.

This is the question many of us wake up pondering at 2 am in the morning when thoughts of work overwhelm our desire to sleep. Have you had your sleep interrupted with the latest challenge at work on your mind? If you are an entrepreneur or in charge of a small business of some kind the answer to this question is unquestionably yes. Not only do you get your sleep interrupted by thoughts of work but you often are getting up well before dawn to tackle the typical work day. It seems that you only had a few hours of much needed rest before your alarm clock is rudely awakening you from your slumber, once again. This is a picture that is repeated all over the world as people who are “living the dream” and devote all their waking hours to their work. To them, there definitely are not enough hours in the day and they seem to devote less and less time to their family, or to their friends.

There is no such thing as a 40 hour, 9-to-5, Monday to Friday work week for anyone who has their own small business, or is in charge of one. For these people, working at the minimum between 60 and 70 hours per week, life goes by in a whirl. They don’t have enough time to devote to all their daily tasks, especially as they have to backpedal from time to time to put out fires and to deal with unexpected complications. The business may be turning over nicely, in terms of the amount of money coming in, but is it really growing? There is a good chance that you can’t see the wood for the trees, due to everything that you have taken on.

If you do manage to get one day per week away from the office, per se, there’s a good chance that you have taken work on and find that you have to do certain administrative tasks on your Sunday morning.
