If you are sick of the normal Powerpoint slideshows with the usual animations you might want to look at Animoto.

You can choose a favourite tune and the animated transitions are automatically set to the rhythm of the song or tune. Totally free to sign up. Create a 15 second video clip for free which you can download or embed on your blog. However, you have to pay for longer slideshows.

IrfanView Version 4.25

IrafanView is my favourite image viewer. I also use it to make minor edits on my pictures. It is packed with features and it's amazing that it is still totally free.

The latest version is Version 4.25 and was released last month on the 16th of June, 2009. Several plugins have been changed and updated as well.

Just downloaded Firefox 3.5 and I may be imagining it but it seems to be noticeably faster.

Just found out about Frixo, a road / motorway traffic reporting site. They provide users up to date information on traffic on UK's roads and motorways. The site gets updated every 3 minutes via feeds from various sources including the government's official Highways Agency site.

Definitely useful in planning trips.

BMW has released a Z4 Roadster game for the iPhone a couple of hours ago.

This is part of BMW Z4´s "An Expression of Joy" campaign. Players will be able to explore, customize, create and virtually drive the virtual Z4 . Players may "draw" using the wheels of their car by choosing different colours so that their tyre tracks create marks as if creating brushstrokes on a canvas.

The game is available for iPhone & iPod Touch and can be downloaded for free from the iTunes store.

Skype 4.0 for Windows has a number of new features including full-screen video calling, much better call quality and easy-to-use buttons. The new Conversations Tab also makes it easy to manage multiple conversations.

Have you ever wanted to have rounded corners for your digital photographs but couldn't because you have no idea how Photoshop works or don't have the software.

Well just go over to the RoundPic site, upload your pic and you automatically have your pics with rounded corners, which you can download and use.

It has only one shortcoming - maximum size of the pic is 1 Mb.

Found this great way to generate Web 2 style buttons in just a few steps. Just go over to "My Cool Button" site. You can choose the shape, colour, text font, text size and whether you want to put an icon in and you are done.

However, if you want to do it the hard way and make your own button on Photoshop, here's a tutorial at Iris Design.

Boxes with rounded corner generator

I am in the process of redesigining our organisation's website and I wanted to put up boxes with rounded corners. There are so many ways to do this but I wanted to use CSS with images. A search on the web led me to so many resources.

The best and the most easiest is RoundedCornr. You have the option of a Basic box, boxes with a colour gradient, with border or one with several options. ALl you have to do is decide the colour, corner radius, etc. Press the "CreateRoundedCornr" and you will have the code and associated graphics ready for download.

See an example here. I created the blue box with gradient using RoundedCornr.

Image reflection generator

If you take a look at the logo of various Web 2 sites online, one of the most common feature is to have a reflection below the logo as if the image was placed on a reflective surface.

You can have it too for your logo for free. Just go over to the Image reflection generator site. You can either specify the url or upload the image (Max 200Kb only). Choose the reflection size and the background colour. Click the "generate" button and you are done.

I am working in a temporary position as a webmaster for a centre at the University of Warwick. I had to get a small logo done quickly but I didn't want to mess around with Photoshop.

Did a search on Google and I found the Cool Text website. In just a few clicks, I had a brand new logo.

First you choose the Logo Style which takes you to another page where you can customise the text, size, colour, etc. Hit the "Render Logo" button and you are done.

Really cool.

Wow! It's been quite sometime since I last updated this blog. It has totally been neglected.

Anyway, the latest version of Firefox, version 3.0.3 came out yesterday. It fixes a problem where users were unable to retrieve saved passwords or save new passwords.

Those who think that Foxkeh, the Japanese mascot of Firefox is cool (or cute), you will be pleased to learn that a Foxkeh theme is out.

AVG antivirus has always been my favourite anti-virus program and I have been using it for a very long time. AVG Technologies (formerly Grisof)has come out with the latest version, AVG Internet Security 8.0, which consists of Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Spam, Web Protection and Firewall. It costs £39.99 (inc. 17.50% VAT) for a 1 year subscription and £59.99 (inc. VAT) for 2 years.

If you just want the anti-virus it will cost you £29.99 inc. VAT for a 1 year Subscription and £39.99 inc. VAT for a 2 years Subscription.

Fortunately, a free version - AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0 (latest version : 8.0.138) is still available.

Introducing two new blogs

This blog started out as a list of all the free of all the best free software out there on the net. I later started writing about bargains, discounts and informations regarding sales offered by retailers, both online and offline.

Now I am going to take this blog back to it's roots and focus mostly on software with limited news on other free stuff.

I will now carry news about discounts and offers by online retailers on my site On Sale Online. This will include discount codes, online shopping tips, etc.

On the other hand, my new blog "not about fashion" will discuss fashion, retail news and tips on getting value for your money on branded clothes and accessories.
