If that's the point of marriage, there's no reason for the government to have anything to do with it. Right? If it's all to get approval/recognition from your deity of choice, why do people have to jump through the hoops of paperwork and whatnot?

Yeah, the whole movie reeked of "we have some stuff in space, isn't that enough? Look at all the cool future space stuff! Pretty!" and not enough "hey, this makes sense!"

Aww, cute. So in order to disprove the Ode to Nice Guys, you make that nice guy into a total asshole.

Hmm...yeah, nice attempt to ignore the problem and to live in your own sad little world of ignorance.

The "nice guy" isn't using the girl, that is why he IS the nice guy. Yet apparently he MUST be using the girl and have a sinister plan...because...

No, the ode is to the nice guy. Not the evil, plotting maniac. Not the clingy, obsessed jerk. Not the selfish, loser who is only doing it to get into your pants.

I've seen soo many responses to these types of "odes", all of which somehow attempt to twist the clear distinction into a deviant, horrible character. When it says the nice guy is doing that because he cares for you, you write "hes only doing it because hes scheming his way into your trust".

Hey, I guess theres no need for dating either right? If you meet someone, exchange numbers and he takes you to dinner, it MUST be a deviant scheme to get in your pants.

Whats sad, and frankly digustingly pathetic, is those types like you who attempt to dismiss their actions and their responsibility on the other. It's usually your type that has had a nice guy attempt all this, but you were stuck up or exactly the weak little child addressed in the ode and you just HATE to have to face up to it.

No, the nice guy is the nice guy. He genuinly liked you and tried to help you while you bitched and moaned that you wanted someone like him, but...just not him, haha. Then of course after being rejected by such a sad excuse for a woman, uh...I mean little girl, he gave up. Of course despite years of friendship and deep understanding, you took his wanting to move on with his life as him "being an asshole", or "being a sad loser" or a hundred other excuses you could come up with for instantly dismissing a BEST FRIEND who put up with a thousand times more sad shit from you before he gave up on that friendship.

Instead of changing the Ode to the NICE Guy to suite your petty, ego driven concience...perhaps you should actually read it first, hahaha.

Oh, and before you attempt to use the same idiotic logic to dismiss this post. Im OBVIOUSLY not a nice guy, never have been. So before you even attempt to use that, as you obviously wouldnt have read my response ripping into you, nice try.

I saw this movie and I feel just the same way. It was horrible. I'm without words... Actually, what lowell does to save the plants doesn't even make sense - He sends them off into deep space. Even if they could stay alive out there - how does that help at all?

I think the whole point of marriage was for your commitment to be recognized and condoned by God. That he would slate your love down in some universal, metaphysical, intangible history of all things.

I guess to me birthdays are a reason to get together with your friends and celebrate. It is more about thanking the person for being a great friend then being born. Very few people take time on a daily basis to tell the people in their life that they appreciate them, so birthdays are a time to do that. I agree that the gifts are uncalled for, I don't need things to know someone cares, but if they take the time to tell me happy birthday or go out for a few drinks and fun with me that means more.

Aggressive but true. I must say I never really thought of birthdays this way. Maybe I should read your rants more often. :P
