For Black History Month, figures from the arts, culture and sport reveal the people and ideas that made them who they are today

So a whole month devoted to those of a specific tint. Well, OK:

According to the 2021/2022 census data, Black people make up approximately 3.7% of the total population of the United Kingdom (around 2.48 million people).

Breakdown by Region (2021/2022 Censuses)

• United Kingdom: 3.7%
• England: 4.2% (or 4.0% specifically in England and Wales combined)
• Scotland: 1.2%
• Wales: 0.8%
• Northern Ireland: 0.6%

Key Details

• Concentration: Almost 96% of Black Britons live in England, with nearly half (47.8%) of the total Black British population residing in Greater London

It’s really a London thing, isn’t it? But we’re all to be deluged, nationally, with it because the media thinks London is England.

Last week, the chair of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) reparations commission, Hilary Beckles, emphasised that the absence of a dedicated official event did not mean reparations would remain peripheral. He described the gathering as “the Chogm of reparations” and the “first round of reparations negotiations”.

“This is the meeting of the Commonwealth in the Caribbean, and the number one item in the Caribbean as far as this gathering is concerned is reparatory justice,” Beckles said.

That’s what “reparatory justice” means here – gibs the money. Nowt else either.

Of course Our Andeh is playing along:

But facing a changing world together requires us to stand on firm foundations. To meet those challenges of the future, we need to face up to the past. For years, those members of the Commonwealth affected by the slave trade have asked for an honest conversation about the legacies of slavery. By sticking our heads in the sand, we have damaged the ability of the Commonwealth to function.

Having these difficult conversations to safeguard the Commonwealth for the future is the right thing to do. It is also the patriotic thing to do.

As the allegations mount against Thomas Markle Sr, his daughter, the Duchess of Sussex, has released a statement describing her deep distress, and saying her priority is the protection of children. Is this the point at which Thomas Markle will cease to be an acceptable source for the Sussex character attacks that have become a tabloid staple? The Daily Mail and its sister paper, the Mail on Sunday, have been utterly brazen in their cultivation of the embittered Thomas Snr, using him as a weapon against his daughter since she first married into the royal family.

My first reaction is what in buggery’s The Guardian doing writing about these peeps?

The second is that I’ve been wracking my brains to think of why would anyone try to set up Markle Senior? Because that’s where I am with the whole saga. Not that I know anything at all about the allegations themselves. But I do just assume that anything to do with any of them is something being set up by ‘er for ‘er advantage. Which is indeed evil of me, to think so little – or, perhaps, so much – of someone but there we are.

And now I’ve got my explanation. If ‘ee’s trampled into the dirt then all the things ‘ee said about ‘er are invalidated. We now have our motive.

All of which is wildly untrue of course. But such is my view of the personalities involved that I’m willing to run with it. Something that could be a comment upon me, or them I guess.

The post Evil of me but…… first appeared on Tim Worstall.

Communities are resisting, and winning. Data Center Watch counted at least 120 US datacenter projects worth nearly $200bn blocked or delayed in the first half of 2026, with opposition in 49 states. Heatmap News found at least 20 canceled outright in the first three months of the year alone, a record.

These are the early stages of what we believe is poised to become a global movement against corporate and billionaire capture of our water, the land that grows our food, and the air we breathe.

At Climate Emergency Fund, we’ve put half our funding toward grassroots groups at the forefront of this fight, and we hope to scale that up before the year is out. We’re asking other funders to join us in this work, which at its core is meant to build thriving communities, not AI datacenters.

Not because data centres are in fact a problem. Nor because being able to stop data centres in countries where popular opinion matters will make any damn difference at all. But because data centres are the bonnetbee du jour among the trendy. Therefore all the money gets spent on being against them.

This only make sense through public choice economics – what’s good for the grant giving, donation raising, bureaucracy is the only motivation here.

The post Latest bandwaggon first appeared on Tim Worstall.

Diana Simpson, 35, a Stanford graduate who lives with her parents on Cambridge Street, is suing Westminster city council. She is applying for judicial review and potential damages on the grounds that when the embassy did belatedly seek planning permission for its change of use and flagpole, the local authority failed to take into account the impact on her mental health of the arrival next door of Montenegro, a country that has been involved in recent scrapes with Russia.

Planning p0ermission should now take account of the feelin’s of the crazed?

Simpson, the daughter of a former US diplomat who has lived on the street for more than three decades, is in receipt of disability benefits after being diagnosed with clinical anxiety, long Covid and a functional neurological disorder. So unsettling has the arrival of the embassy been to Simpson that her nights are regularly affected, she claims in her statement of grounds.

She alleges: “I frequently feel the need to sleep in an alternative to my lifelong bedroom, to gain some marginal relief; sometimes pre-emptively, sometimes in the middle of the night when I cannot reason with my activated primal ‘fear’ brain response (for example, upon hearing a creak, and immediately fearing an intruder accessing my room from the embassy, despite knowing the possibility is very slim and that this response is mostly irrational).”

They’ve a piccie of her. Would, nice bow windows. But having read, perhaps no, failing the hot/crazy interface a little too much?

The post Whut? first appeared on Tim Worstall.

Oren and Tal Alexander were star representatives at real estate firm Douglas Elliman, before forming their own brokerage, Official, which made hundreds of millions of dollars selling condos to wealthy and celebrity clientele.

Alon Alexander ran their family’s private security company, and was also deeply involved in their opulent lifestyle of superyachts, private jets, exotic overseas trips, and parties at waterfront mansions in Miami and elsewhere.

Their easy access to money and women, prosecutors said, allowed them to exploit their victims and lure them to parties or on luxury trips, during which the Alexanders would drug and rape them, either together or in the company of others.
