Members from Team Taiwania will be representing Chinese Taipei (TPE) in the World Mixed Curling Championship 2024 (WMxCC 2024) in Aberdeen, Scotland, on October 12-19, 2024. ]]> This was my first time trying to repair any thing on any guitar. The frets were replaced with stainless ones. K&K Pure Mini pickup was installed. The tuning machines were replaced with Gotoh 510 (SGV510Z-L5-XN MGT Locking Tuners). The pickguard was removed simply because I don’t like it.

The guitar was made in Taiwan in 1979, featuring a solid spruce top and a 3-piece rosewood (2 ply) back.

A personal note

This is meant to push myself to step out of my comfort zone. Although I studied violin and piano when I was young, guitar and bass are new to me. And singing is really not my thing, and I was not into music other than classical music. Nevertheless, I thought I’d give it a try, not only to wrap up 2020 but also to set a new beginning for 2021. I’m pretty sure I will make more music in the future as I continue to search for the meaning in life.

]]> I started to learn classical guitar about 4 months ago as we continued to stay at home due to the pandemic. As a violinist, I was able to pick up some basic skills quickly, especially the left hand techniques. But there are still many differences between violin and guitar, and I will keep trying to figure it out in the coming months.

Here is my progress after 4 months, playing White Christmas, arranged by guitarist Thomas Sonderegger. The song was originally written by Irving Berlin for the film Holiday Inn.

]]> I recently had an opportunity to collaborate with Taiwanese cellist Li-Han Eliza Tseng on her project: Star Trek Picard Cello and Violin Cover. We got to know each other through a Taiwanese artists group on Facebook. She brought up this idea last month and we started to work on it for the past several weeks. Please check out our performance below.

Star Trek Picard cello and violin cover

The music was arranged by Li-Han, based on the main theme of the TV series Star Trek Picard. She played cello and I played violin. I did all the post production of the video, with inputs from her regarding the sound mixing.

Other updates

In addition to setting up the rig, I also modified my basement studio a little bit, planning to create more YouTube videos. I can’t believe it’s been more than a year since my last video. By the way, I wasn’t selected to play with Ray.
