In January I made a post about this collaborative project called 15 dias / 2 miradas (15 days / 2 looks) created by Arlette Montilla, which consisted in portraying the Venezuelan's daily life outside the country and each participant has to take one photo for 15 days. Then she will try to look for similar situations for a comparative of our lives.

From April 17 to May 1 it was my turn, I believe our results were pretty interesting. A lot was happening in these 15 days so I had some cool stuff to document. I loved the challenge, and it seems that I can't stop taking daily pictures.

This is the beginning of a great year because:

1. I changed my glasses.

2. My mom visited along with her husband, so much to do so little time.

3. She brought a lot of awesome gifts from friends, delicious candy, food and rum

Did I tell you it was a lot?

4. It was our anniversary, which we enjoyed at "Los Amigos Invisibles" concert

5. And lastly we moved to a new better place. I'll post some pics soon.

My life lately... (Part 1)

It has been a couple of months since I last wrote on this blog, and now that I have time to finally dedicate myself to it, and I wanted to tell you what have I been doing lately. My life is not that exciting but I want to write this post in parts so I have a reason to write again :)

I'm going to start with Melissa Araujo, she is a Brazilian fashion designer who contacted me to collaborate with her. I am taking pics of her style for her blog, we have been meeting frequently, and I would like to show you some of my work.

This last one was my favorite shoot, we are lucky to shoot on such lovely days. Also, this and the first shoot were featured on the Brazilian and French American Apparel Facebook, how freaking exciting?

How to achieve your resolutions + printable

How many times have you found yourself at the end of the year writing new resolutions and wondering what happened with the ones you wrote last year?. If you are one of the few that actually accomplishes more than 50% of the goals you set yourself then CONGRATULATIONS!

But the majority of us feel like we haven't done most of the things we wanted to do, and why is that?

Maybe you wrote down some unrealistic goals, like quitting your job and making $100.000 from your blog. Let's be serious, that's not going to happen. Goals need to be realistic, measurable and with a deadline. Saying that you want to lose 1 kg. or 2 pounds per month is more attainable.
You had too many goals. Focus on just a few rather than going crazy with lots.
You didn't write them down, or if you did you forgot about them the next week. A solution for this is to print a piece of paper (like the one I'm giving to you) with specific goals, an action plan with deadlines and put it in a visible place.
You wrote resolutions just for the heck of it. If they don't "speak" to you they won't motivate you. State a goal like it's your life mission for that year.

The list could go on and on, but this post is not about that, on the contrary, I want to help you plan and monitor your goals.

Remember when I said to choose a few goals like 2 or 3? It's because for this to work we need to focus and the margin for quitting is lower. A few years ago I just had one resolution, to watch more than 100 new movies before December 31.

Then you should choose an area to work on next year, it could be: health, finance or blog building, choose whatever you want.

After that, you get to the part when you state a goal, let's say I want to be more fit next year, I'm not going to write down just that, it won't motivate me. Remember than for a goal or mission to work we need it to be realistic, measurable and with a deadline. So for my goal I could say: "Be able to finish a 5k race by December 2013" or "Get 3 hours of exercise per week"

Now that you have a goal you need to know how in the hell you are going to do it, it's time for an action plan, following the resources and deadline, with my "5K goal" it could go on like this:

Find out when are the nearest 5k races. It'll just take a minute on google, but the importance of this is to know a real deadline. Let's say there's a race by February and another one by August, obviously I won't be prepared for the first race so I chose the second one as a definitive deadline.
Then I choose when to train. I'm a sissy so these three first months are way too cold for me to train for a 5k race, I decide to train from May to August with a specific schedule. By the way, the couch-to-5k program is amazing.

The list should be specific and long enough so you know what to do and when and it should look like this:

Following these simple steps you will be able to see your progress and at the end of the year you'll be happy having achieved those goals, and it's Ok if you don't complete them, at least you are going to be way more close to accomplish your goals than you used to be.

Hello lovely reader!

I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to you, or happy holidays or happy festivus, or whatever thing that you celebrate.

These are our first holidays away from our families, and even though me and my husband are kind of nostalgic we still have the spirit and joy of Christmas.

If you are like us and you are spending the holidays and new years away from home, then I have a tip for you: DO SOMETHING! there is nothing worse than being depressed on the holidays, go out and do something, if you have friends invite them over for a dinner, try to find a place to do some charity work and volunteer, or if you have money go out on a shopping spree, like a friend of the family that spent the new years eve shopping at Walmart, ok that's kind of crazy. The point is to get distracted from the nostalgic times, otherwise it's instacrying.

It just so happened that this tiny balloon was floating around the convention center at Vancouver downtown, and I took some shots at it for one of my best friends and awe-inspiring blogger heyvero.

And of course I got a "fashion" shot. I have to say my style is improving by the day, and these are all my clothes I brought from Venezuela, minus the coat. I guess I'm starting to learn how to put things together.

Then, we went inside the convention center where there was a Yoga convention and the Christmas Market. Both huge. My lovey and I got to pose in front of the enormous earth globe and so did the heyvero's globe.

Adventuring Granville Island

It was our second time adventuring the very chic and warm (even though it was freezing) place called Granville Island. We decided to go through a different route and found the most beautiful stores I've seen. One of them was Paper-Ya, my heart melted every step I made into the store. It's a must visit.

Then we went to the Public market wanting to eat everything at our sight. We bought some delicious and fresh ricotta and sun dried tomato raviolis to die for. And there is actually buffala cheese, but its too damn expensive -sigh- one day.

I wanted to make a post about my fashion clothes, and because yesterday was a sunny day I guess it was just perfect. I've been trying to play with layers mainly because I don't melt. I've done some experiments with my clothes, some work some doesn't but that's fashion right? Trying to get to the sweet style spot.

If you are interested to know I'm wearing a forever 21 dress which I choose to wear it as a dress, Zara's sweater, my grandmother sew this shirt for me, from this tutorial, Roxy boots, top shop tights. And Peperita's accessories.

It's not new my love for pinterest but I don't know if its worse now that I'm starting crafting. Last week I did a makeup storage a little different from the one I have on my pinterest board. How much was it? $2 + tax. I didn't find better trays but fuck it, I love it.

Also,I want to talk to you about my lovely lamp, it was literally the first thing for our home, it was a gift from the lovely owner of ELEMENTALT, a brand from Venezuela that uses paper to make lamps and accessories. This is the Cocoon model, but she has other models as well. Isn't it gorgeous?

NaNoWriMo is coming

NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month is just around the corner! It's held every November and the goal is to write a 50,000 words novel in a month (or 1666 words in a day), without obsessing over quality. If you are interested sign up here.

I tried it last year, but I didn't make it, I think I just did three pages or something. But I feel I can do it this year, and If you like writing (even if it's gibber gabber) then you should give it a try. How cool it's to say "oh, I'm a novelist".

If you are a planner freak, you can plan what you want to write before this event starts, it's not against the rules. Here are some prep tips to help you develop the novel.

As for my novel, I'm just going to write it but I'm not going to show it to anyone, not even my husband, it's going to be a total piece of crap but I don't care. I'll probably place a widget for you to see my word count.

Here in Vancouver there are groups that get together in quiet rooms and to try to get to the quota.

Geese insanity

Last week the most crazy thing I've seen happened, right outside of our apartment, thousands of crazy geese that I suppose are migrating. Gian and I took some pictures.

I know this one was plotting against us.

At last, back to my blog, I finally figured out my routine and a way to manage this better, it took me a while because I'm basically the queen of procrastination. But I promise this blog is not buried like the rest of my other blogs, I just had to organized myself better and set different and reachable goals, let's be honest, I was never going to make the 365 thing, silly me.

♥ You know that halloween is coming, so I'd so wear this, I would even make it if I had some skills in sewing.

♥ Ok, so this one is actually goreish, it's a zombie nails tutorial for Halloween.

♥ We've been eating ramen soup quite a lot, but not just maruchan, we even try to make a tasty soup. Here are some recipes to turn your ramen life upside down.

♥ Movies recommendations for the week: Mao's last dancer, Before sunrise and before sunset, I'm a sucker for romantic movies.

♥ I would give my left tit to be able to pull this sequin maxi skirt from nastygal off.

Instameet Vancouver in October

Yesterday was a really fun day, I finally got to meet cool people from instagram. This instameet it's organized every month as a photowalk. I brough my camera with me and these are my favorite photos, I didn't take that many because Gian and me had to leave early to the whitecaps game :)

The fashionable girl bellow @beyunique was posing for me, loved her animal print hat.

I've been following @bryceevansphoto since I was living in Venezuela, it's nice to see one of your favorite insagrammers in action.

We went to the Science World and got cool shots there.

As you know (or don't know) last Sunday the Venezuelan elections were held, Chavez won... again. I'm not going to talk about politics because I kind of hate that topic.

Ironically the Monday after that was Thanksgiving Day here in Canada, but I could only be thankful for one thing only, being away from my country, being safe. I'm not going to be a downer here, but I'm going to focus on the thanks thing.

At one of my bus rides.

Canadians are famous for being very sorry or very thankful. In a normal day I hear people say sorry or thank you about 10 to 20 times, so this guys are very polite. Even when they get off a bus they scream "THANK YOU!" to the driver, and funnily enough they sometimes say "YOU WELCOME!", and I sometimes do it too.

So I was wondering how many times did I hear someone saying thanks to their bus driver, did I ever say it back in Maracaibo? Of course not, those are radically different cultures, but what if you start saying thanks to someone who don't get that too often?

I don't imagine people in Maracaibo saying a legitimate "Hey! bus driver, thank you for not letting us all get killed this time!" because let's face it, its hot as hell, there are like 100 sweaty people touching you and the driver is a maniac, but it could be fun if we start being polite to everyone around us.

Hello you all! I know, I suck.

My best friend reminded me that It has been a whole month since my last post, but now that we are talking about my best friend I just wanted to dedicate this post to her because it's her Bday.

Even though we know each other since we were on 4th grade (14 years more or less) our relationship grew stronger in 2004 because of reasons.

We've been Chinisima and Kirisima since forever. We graduated together,

And traveled together.

We are almost the same person, mentally

and physically.

Just once I missed her bday, which I regret, but every year she is the absolute queen :)

We've danced together

and we always dress up together for Halloween.

We've worked together (awesome stuff, eh?)

and also had our tough times, but we've always made up

and you know you completely trust and love your best friend when you ask her to do you makeup on your wedding day oh and be the maid of honor of course. She's the best.

I really miss her and want to be with her today, but I know she is going to have a great time and that makes me happy :)

Believe me when I say we don't have the time to surf the web, next week I'll start with the regular posting most probably.

Gian and I went cellphone shopping and apartment hunting. So I don't have Lots of pics to show you other than these.

The place we are staying at live a Shih Tzu and yesterday the brother went to visit him. They were playing right next to me and Gian took this beautiful photo <3

Also went to a supermarket, and read this where they put the meat, this Spanish is funny and horrible at the same time.

The family that lives where we are staying held a BBQ party, it was so nice to meet people from all over the world, the food was incredible and sitting by the fire is always the best thing.

We are finally here!! 0 days! which converted to Day 1, that means I'll post my tiny adventures every day for 365 days. At least a tiny pic per day.

4 things I'll miss and won't miss about my hometown {4 days}

4 more days to go! and i've been SUPER busy, you have no idea. I even missed yesterday's post.

I had this post in mind for a while and I think it's the right time to post it. I hope I keep on posting before we leave, wish me luck!

The local food: If you know about Maracaibo you know everything here tastes delicious, even though Vancouver is the foodie town, local food from this city is incredible, mostly because everything is fattening. I'll specially miss the hallacas in late November, December and January and arepas too, hopefully I'll find Harina PAN
My friends and family: I probably won't cry when I say my goodbyes but I'll definitely will when I hear Gaita in Christmas.
Being spoiled: leaving my home means my mom won't cook for me, no one is going to clean up after me, even less do the laundry. Leaving home means responsibilities but don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it.
The weather: Yes i know, this country could be a literal hell but when rainy days and cold kicks in I'll miss my sun but maybe just for a day.

It's impossible to not feel nostalgic about the place you grew up, that made you who you are, but then again there are some things that I definitely won't miss:

The weather: Maracaibo isn't called hornocity for nothing (horno stands for oven) and even though Raincouver's weather isn't the best I'll still won't miss the standard 48°C with 90% of humidity and NO wind.
The lifestyle: Vancouver is "streets ahead" when we talk about nightlife and culture. There are a billion things to do rather than go to a mall/movies and eat.
The sightseeing: let's face it, Maracaibo is NOT pretty, it's just humid and dirty and who's going to miss that? not me.
Crime: I believe this is the most important point of all, I really don't want to get something stolen or get murdered for an iPhone, I really don't. So yeah, walking without worrying that someone is going to kill you just for stealing from you is something I dearly want to experience.

So tell me, what is the one thing that you will miss about the place you live if you leave?

Portrait and Ballet {7 days}

A couple of weeks ago I promised my best friend to post something ballet related so I had the idea to mix the black and white portraits with ballet. So instead of writing about my love about dance, which I'll cover eventually, I'm just going to show you.

Weekly Adventures on Instagram {9 days}

Oh man! It seems that yesterday started the official 10-days-to-go countdown! This week started just fine, with my bday happening and all.

My family took me to a new restaurant called Bistro where the food was good, not great, the only thing great was the profiterol I ate, holy cow that was good! Then my incredibly awesome husband gave me two presents I looooove.

Next day I went to Caracas to meet my family and one of my favorite dogs, Nieto. Then my family threw a little farewell reunion with salchichon included.

You remember the post where I talked about my recent obsession about black and white portraits? Well last saturday when I arrived to Maracibo, I got together with some of my friends who were interested in being my models, we had a great time, you'll see the pics soon.

My friend @heyvero is filling her home with lovely post its, an idea she got from one of the links from my round ups.
