All of us in the Tiny Team just wanted to say how grateful we are to have met so many wonderful folks (both locally and from elsewhere) who seem to appreciate why and how we’re trying to revitalize Savannah’s live entertainment scene.

The fact that we have been able –over the course of a little more than a year– to present such internationally-known and respected artists as CRACKER, WEBB WILDER, JOHN HAMMOND, THE ASYLUM STREET SPANKERS, FRANK BLACK of the PIXIES, and RORY BLOCK, as well as throw a major Benefit Concert featuring members from several of the city’s own top rock and soul acts such as THE SAPPHIRE BULLETS, THE 8-TRACKS, ARGYLE, THE VERAFLAMES, SPLITFINGER, THE JEFF BEASLEY BAND, SUPERHORSE, THE GREG WILLIAMS BAND and HOT PINK INTERIOR, all to raise money for an injured member of the local music scene is, quite frankly, amazing.

We could not have achieved this without all of you who bought tickets to the shows, or volunteered to help behind-the-scenes to make them a reality.

Although we’re taking the month of September off to regroup and restructure the Team (onward and upward!), we’ve got an even wider variety of major artists lined up for the end of this year and 2008 - starting with a return visit from THE ASYLUM STREET SPANKERS on Tuesday, November 13th at American Legion Post 135, and a massive triple-bill of buzzworthy indie-rock bands a week later on Tuesday, November 20th at Savannah Smiles.

That show features the super-fantastic Canadian jangle-pop group THE GOLDEN DOGS, along with California’s THE WILLOWZ (as heard on the soundtrack to Michel Gondry’s ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND), opening for trendsetting Detroit dance-rockers ELECTRIC SIX (”Danger! High Voltage”), who are touring in support of their forthcoming album I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me From Being The Master.

Tickets to both these shows will be available through this website starting at 12 noon on September 22nd - weeks before they hit our regular outlets.

Check back here often for more details, drop us a line and ask to be added to our ever-growing e-mail list for advance notice on cool TTC events, and don’t forget to befriend us on MySpace and SUBSCRIBE TO OUR BLOG there.

Also, if you have a business or organization that is interested in helping to enrich Savannah’s quality of life by co-sponsoring any of our upcoming shows, please contact us directly through this site. We’ll be in touch.

Be safe, and we’ll see you at the gigs.

8pm, Friday, August 24th at Trustees Theater

What if we told you that Ms. Block, a 5-time W.C. Handy Award-winning singer and slide-guitar whiz who’s been described as “a national treasure,” and “a living landmark of the Mississippi Delta blues tradition,” was playing an ALL-AGES show in Savannah in support of her 2007 Acoustic Blues Album of The Year?

And what if we told you this was one of only a few handfuls of dates that she would also be accompanied by a 38-piece black church choir and band from Utica, Miss., who’d accompany her on full-on Southern gospel hymns as well as blues tunes by the late, great blues icon Robert Johnson (of “Crossroads” fame)?

Now, what if we told you that one of the members of that choir is the recently discovered Grandson of Robert Johnson himself?

Yep.

Anyone who saw our spellbinding John Hammond concert last November won’t want to miss this rare opportunity to see another one of the top acoustic blues artists in the world - and as this show bridges the gap between rural, secular blues and soulful, sanctified Southern church music, it should be all the more sweet and profound. Plus, this is the first Tiny Team event at the Trustees Theater, location of so many wonderful Savannah Music Festival concerts.

Check out some live video of Rory Block right here.

We expect this to be a memorable evening of uplifting and spiritual American music for people of all ages, races, beliefs and backgrounds! Whether you’re a believer or not, if you’ve never witnessed the exhilarating joy of a deep Southern revival meeting, you’re in for an intense musical experience. We’re gonna turn the Trustees Theater into a Mississippi church for a night. So, bring the family…

Reserved-seat Tickets to this ALL-AGES show are only $22, and are on sale NOW at the Trustees Theater Box Office (tel.912.525.5050).

Click here to order yours securely through their site - PLEASE NOTE: Trustees Theater adds a service charge to all internet or phone transactions which the Tiny Team DOES NOT control. If you want to save that extra fee, buy your tickets in person from their Broughton St. office!

Thanks for your understanding.

Webb Wilder, “The Last of the Full Grown Men,” has been entertaining audiences around the world for more than 20 years with his completely original mix of “both kinds of music: Rock and Roll.” Over the course of a half-dozen albums and several iconic film appearances, Webb Wilder has carved out his own unique place in the canon of American music as “the last of the boarding house people; a four eyed guy who doesn’t smile a lot, but who doesn’t frown much either; an outsider who feels as though he’s on the wrong side of the tracks no matter where he’s at; and a guy who knows every thrift shop and plate-lunch joint in town.”

Beloved local musician Jesse Jordan (The Easy Walkers, The Veraflames, The EROK Trio, The Courtenay Brothers Band, The Jeff Beasley Band, etc…) suffered a bad fall down some stairs early last month and broke his right leg in several places and had to have a knee replacement.

He cannot walk for many months and cannot play the drums for several more. He makes a large chunk of his income each year by playing gigs and teaching percussion. We at Tiny Team have invited almost forty of the most respected rock & roll and blues musicians in town to donate their time and talent to play a massive show in Jesse’s honor.

This will be the biggest and most eclectic local rock show of 2007, and a great opportunity to see and hear some of the finest acts in town from past generations as well as today - all for a great cause.

Advance online ticketing for this show has ended! There are still plenty of great seats left for this wonderful show, and they can be purchased for $18 CASH ONLY (sorry, no credit cards) at the door.

Sunday night, February 4th at 7 pm, this critically-acclaimed guitar duo play an extremely intimate show in the area’s best acoustic listening room - Randy Wood’s Concert Hall in Bloomingdale, just a few minutes’ drive from downtown Savannah.

Not familiar with their work? Listen to Stacey & Mark’s music at the Tiny Team Myspace. We think you’ll agree that its something special indeed.

They both spent time in Stacey’s older brother Steve Earle’s band The Dukes, but since then have gone on to write, record and release impressive and beautiful songs on their own. They’ve opened up for Joan Baez, Steve Earle, Willie Nelson, Ralph Stanley, Richard Thompson, Gregg Brown and Iris Dement (among others). They’ve played all of the major folk festivals, including Tellruide, Newport, MerleFest and Mariposa, as well as popular radio shows like NPR’s Mountain Stage.

This will be their first time in our area, and they’ll play two full sets, with a meet-and-greet at intermission.

“An audacious, genre-defying national treasure!” says Jazz Review.

“Part of her charm - and she is nearly irresistible - is that she’s almost impossible to pin any one label on. Alt.country, straight-up-hard-core-country, folk, singer-songwriter, Americana - all of these and more hit the mark.” ~ Country Standard Time

“Leaving controversy to her brother Steve, Stacey and husband Mark use their voices and guitars to deliver plainspoken tales over similarly unvarnished bluegrass, folk-country and Appalachian gospel.” ~ Chicago Tribune

“Gillian Welch fans will be right at home…” ~ Uncut magazine (U.K.)

“With modern country stars shilling glitz and patriotism, Earle and husband Mark Stuart create the kind of smart, intimate, lived-in version of Americana that’s an endangered pleasure these days.” ~ Creative Loafing Atlanta

Tell your friends - there are only 100 seats available for this whisper-quiet, alcohol-free (soft drinks available, and there’s a killer BBQ joint next door) ALL-AGES show, and we predict they’ll go fast! If you want to learn more about the band, check out staceyearle.com.

If you aren’t hip to this amazingly entertaining 6-piece acoustic hick-adelic group of unhinged, moderately intoxicated, Americana-loving, alt.country pranksters, then you don’t know what you’re missing.

This world-famous outfit of satirical misfits are just as likely to play a faithful rendition of an old swing tune from the ’40s as they are to bust out a washboard and fiddle version of a Beastie Boys rap or a new-wave classic by The B-52’s. Plus, they’re known for writing some of the sweetest, snarkiest and edgiest tongue-in-cheek ditties you’ve heard in years.

They are the living embodiment of a good time, and will knock your socks off without relying on amplified instruments, electronic trickery or fancy light shows.

Don’t believe us? See for yourself. Their brand-new, politically-incorrect spoof video for “Stick Magnetic Ribbons On Your SUV” is burning up the internet - and for good reason.

Tiny Team Concerts is extremely proud to announce our 3rd major show this year!

On Tuesday night, November 14, 2006 at 8:00 pm, Grammy Award-winning Living Legend of The Blues, JOHN HAMMOND will play a special, intimate solo show in the Grand Ballroom of American Legion Post #135 at 1108 Bull Street in Savannah, GA.

Tickets on sale now! Purchase yours online securely by clicking here.

This marks the first time that John has appeared as a solo artist in Savannah in several years. If you have seen him before, you know that he is an amazing performer who puts on incredible shows, and if you have never seen him before, you won’t want to miss this great opportunity to see an up close and personal show from a man that many consider to be one of the finest blues guitarists, singers and harmonica players in the entire world!

John’s career began in the early 1960s, when he was first turned on to the almost mythical recordings of the late, great Delta bluesman Robert Johnson. Hearing his calling, John devoted himself to learning the intricate and highly personal and improvisational style of bottleneck guitar playing and vocalizing that Johnson and his peers such as Charley Patton, Son House, Skip James, Blind Willie McTell and others made famous.

He signed to Vanguard Records, the leading commercial folk and blues label of the 1960s, and recorded many classic albums, some of which featured electric backing by members of The Hawks, a Canadian roadhouse band whom he would later introduce to his friend, the young Bob Dylan. Dylan would subsequently hire that group to record and tour with him on his infamous 1966 electric rock tour of the U.K.. The group would later re-name themselves The Band, and go on to become superstars in their own right.

Over the past 4 decades, Hammond has released a steady string of live and studio albums - some with backing musicians, some by himself - each of which displays a mastery of his instruments that has become the benchmark which most all budding bluesmen aspire to hit. It’s said that the late Duane Allman once drove a beat-up milk truck for an entire day to show up and sit in on one of John Hammond’s recording sessions. He’s played with Jimi Hendrix, jammed with Johnny Winter, recorded with Dr. John, JJ Cale, drummer Stephen Hodges, Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo, Doug Sahm and Bob Dylan sideman Augie Meyers, Little Charlie & The Nightcats, and many, many more.

He’s been nominated several times for the Grammy award and has one under his belt in the Blues category.

A few years back, he and his longtime friend, the genius songwriter Tom Waits, collaborated on a stunning album called Wicked Grin, which found Hammond interpreting a full CD’s worth of classic (as well as unreleased) Waits tunes. Produced by Waits himself, and featuring a handful of musicians who have worked with Tom in the past, it was an unexpected departure for Hammond, whom many consider a blues purist. However, John Hammond is much more than a limiting description such as that would imply.

He is a phenomenal musician who knows how to get the most out of a song.

Catching his live shows are like traveling back though time to an era when complex music and emotions were displayed using simple means. A steel resonator guitar (or Dobro), an acoustic guitar, a slide or bottleneck, a mouth harp on a wire neck rack, and a strong voice are all he needs to get across his art. Even proficient guitarists are in awe of his technique, and soul singers lie awake at night dreaming they could open up their mouths and find his voice at their disposal.

Tiny Team is extremely proud to be able to bring in yet another artist of this exemplary caliber to Savannah.

Opening the show will be local acoustic blues guitarist and singer Michael Maddox, a familiar face to many in the area, whose rare public performances are as impressive as they are infrequent. We’re honored to have him round out this great bill.

If you’d like to hear examples of John Hammond’s music, simply go to the top of this page and click over to our MySpace site, and there you’ll find 4 streaming tunes and some live video clips which should give you an idea of just how special this artist is.

Tickets for this 21+ show are extremely limited, and we predict it will sell out, so make sure to buy yours as early as possible to make sure you get in. They are $20 in advance and $23 at the door (if any remain), and may be charged securely from the Tickets page of this website beginning on Wednesday, November 1st. They will NOT be mailed to you. They will be held for you at Will Call the night of the show. Visit the TICKETS page and you’re halfway there.

Thanks SO much to everyone who showed their support for bringing larger-scale shows to town by showing up for last night’s Cracker gig at The Legion!

The concert was a complete sellout, and as those who were there can attest, the band played GREAT, and the room looked and sounded GREAT as well.

It was really nice to see such a diverse crowd of people enjoying a rock show. We had people from 21 to 65, hanging out, getting along and seeing a bad-ass band.

Props must be doled out to Connect Savannah Magazine for stepping up to the plate and co-sponsoring the show, Capital A Productions for doing a terrific job with the PA (that was easily the best that room has EVER sounded), Tadd Trueb at the New Design Front for some eye-catching poster, ad and ticket design, Kay-Wad for something I’m not at liberty to discuss, Bill Dawers and Christopher Miller at the Savannah Morning News for writing such kind articles about the gig (here, here, and here), plus Murmur Magazine for featuring the show in their June issue.

Special thanks also to Dave Reed at Movement Studio for cooking up this snazzy website you’re looking at right now, and walking us through the mechanics of keeping it updated. Learn more about this North Cacakalacky-based multi-tasker at www.davereed.org.

Extra-special thanks go to the Tiny Street Team (they know who they are) for donating their time and sweat to haul gear, move tables, post flyers, pass out handbills, and generally promote this event.

For what it’s worth, the band was very happy with the show, and said that the crowd response was the best they have received so far on the entire tour (including the 900 people at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta the night before!).

With a little luck, we’ll bring them back through again sometime, as well as their partners in crime, CVB.

American Legion Post #135 is a beautiful, historic venue, and we hope to present more shows of this scope there in the future. However, regardless of where the Tiny Team sets up camp, know that we are totally committed to regularly bringing Savannah what it deserves:

Big names, with top-notch sound, via grass-roots DIY promotion, in mid-sized venues at a fair price.

Please add us as a friend at our MySpace page (www.myspace.com/tinyteamconcerts), subscribe to the blog and our syndication feed, and keep tabs on new developments at this site so you’ll have advance notice of our upcoming shows.

If you wanna be part of the Street Team, drop us a line at either place, and we’ll get back to you.

Thanks again for all the kind words and support.

Hey all.

After way too long a hiatus, the Tiny Team is up and running again! Our mission? To provide Savannah’s music and comedy lovers with a steady stream of great concerts that would otherwise never come to town.

Our target audience are those of you out there who feel underserved by the current club and theatre scene in our beautiful little conundrum of a town. We’re looking to invigorate the folks who rarely take in live shows anymore because their lifestyle simply doesn’t jive with the crazy late hours and/or booking choices of the majority of downtown’s live entertainment venues.

If you enjoy high-quality, eclectic, live entertainment at a fair price that starts at a reasonable hour, then our shows are for you.

Despite the high-profile of our artists, Tiny Team’s productions will often take place in odd locations, out-of-the-way spots and secret hideaways that might be a little off the beaten path, but - trust us - will be well worth seeking out!

Why should neighboring cities like Charleston, Hilton Head and Jacksonville get all the good shows? Over the next few months we hope to provide some much needed balance between the small club gigs and large-scale concerts that are all we’ve had to choose from in this town for over a decade now.

However, we’re going to need your help and support in order to make this a reality.

Tell your friends about this site and our Myspace page, SUBSCRIBE TO OUR BLOG, and keep an eye out for our Bulletin Messages, so you’ll be the first to know about upcoming concerts before they’re announced to the general public. That way, you’ll have first crack at the limited number of advance tickets which are the lifeblood of an undertaking such as this.

We’re excited about bringing great artists to town, but the only way we can minimze the significant financial risk involved is to build a loyal following of music and comedy lovers who are willing to purchase tickets well in advance in order to make sure these shows actually take place!

Tickets to all of our events will be available for cash at a handful of cool businesses throughout town, and can also be charged securely online through Paypal, so out-of-towners can reserve seats as well.

We look forward to hearing your suggestions and feedback. Feel free to send us a message through our contact page. We’ll do our best to respond in a timely manner.

And thanks for being the sort of people who choose to support unusual entertainment in Savannah. It means a great deal to all of us.

~ The Tiny Team
