Recently Chris and I decided Cami is at an age to teach her about money. Nothing huge, just the importance of saving & sharing. Both kids “earn” things at the house. Right now, Noah gets stickers and earns prizes and Camille checks boxes and earns money.

So we took on the Project Spend, Save, Share.

Taking some old cans and lids from the garage, I cut three pieces of watercolor paper just the right height and width to fit around the jar. I then gave it to Cami and asked her to paint what she thought of with the words: spend, share & save.

I love Cami so much. Often times I think in my head what something should look like. For example, what she would relate to spend, save or share and then it is completely not that. Even after she explains it to me I’m often not sure I understand. However, I do understand one thing and that she thought of it all by herself and is excited about it!

We attached the dried pictures (using clear packing tape), she and Chris divided her money. We told her 70% for spending, 20% saving and 10% sharing. Of course, typical Cami put a lot more in Sharing. She’s using that money to buy a pillow with the Pillow Project in Congo. They are $7.00 and she’s over halfway there, I’m really proud of her. They divided it all up and we set it up high, and whenever she earns a bit of money for helping, she starts to calculate … seventy, twenty and ten percent.

In case you are wondering here are the supplies we used:
• measuring tape (to measure the size watercolor paper we needed)
• Watercolor paper
• watercolors
• sharpie makers (for labeling)
• spray paint (for the lids)
• 3 old cans with lids (ours were the same size, but they totally don’t have to be)
• clear mailing tape (really helps to secure the artwork well)

Today’s new action is called Kids Carnival. This is probably my favorite new action because of the warmth and brightness to skin tones. A few weeks ago Chris, the kiddos and I went with my sister to the Storybook Fair. It was a completely free fair the city hosted and so much fun! The kids loved it. I’m so grateful to have a sister that is always keeping her eye open for fun things to do with our kids.

Here is a couple Before and After’s so you can see the action at work.

Noah on his little train ride. He was so excited, Chris and I had to chase him down as he ran across and climbed onto the train.

After Kids Carnival is applied:

Both the kids spent a lot of their time at The Scrap Exchange. The Scrap Exchange used materials that would most likely be thrown away (old spools, scraps of fabric, random sticker labels, empty containers, etc) and set up a few tables for the kids to create whatever they wanted. Both our kids created some sort of teliscope that had all kinds of contraptions on it.

This weekend I got to take pictures of my friend Liz. Do you remember when I took pictures with her little Adam before? Well now she has two sweet babies and I loved taking their pictures. Here are a couple with Kids Carnival applied as well.

Since Chris has been home, he’s gotten me into a good routine of waking up early 4/5 times a week. He has a 5 a.m. crossfit class, and so we end up waking up together at 4:30. This has allowed me about 2 hours of time to myself before the kids awake. I feel fresh and awake, which really allows me to get good work done.

With rebranding, I wanted to keep all that I do “together”. It hasn’t been completely smooth… I think I’ve changed my instagram name about 5 times, but it is working. Website design is something that I had taken a break from, but now I’m back at it and what I’ve been offering clients are customized wordpress websites. Its a lot easier for me and for them to keep up to date. Its also nice in this digital age where people are checking everything out on their cell phones, to have that accessibility that flash will not provide.

I currently, just finished a website for Author, Elisabeth Corcoran. Customizing a wordpress template and importing her blogger posts, to keep everything unified and together as one site. She has a new book, coming out this fall and carried some of the themes from that into the style of her site.

Another site that I’ve been working on is KB Lueck Building Consultants. I started with them a little over a year ago creating their logo (seen on my sample page) and this website, but quite a bit simpler. Their business has been doing extremely well, and what I love is the ability to grow and expand it without having to redo the entire thing. So we’ve been re-working the photo, adding watermarks and new projects.

Finally, I have been inspired once again to get back to carving. My shop still has quite a bit in it and I’m planning on having several new prints and a summer collection by middle of this June! I’m very excited, but please go check out what I have. The print below is donating to the One Boston Fund, to help the families affected by the Boston Marathon.

Wednesday, I got an email that said our i-600 was approved! Squealing with excited I called Chris immediately. Now begins the three to six month investigation period. It could really go a lot faster than three, and that’s what we are praying for. However, the US Embassy has made it clear that it could be up to six and not to contact them until that six months is done. So here we sit again. We’ve been blessed to have so many people who love us in our lives. We received another generous gift from some very sweet friends of ours, I have another friend who threw a 31 party for me, and my sister’s mother in law linked us up at the college where she works that gives grants for adoptions. With all the hurt that has been going on in the world recently, we’ve been blessed to see the good, the love and care that people share. And all this love can definitely make a paper-pregnant couple pretty emotional…in a good way!

More BIG news that I realized I never posted here is that Lainey is officially a Wallace. Her CONA (certificate of no appeal), was up the very end of March and she is now ours, we are a family of 5! Can’t wait for this family of five to be united all together.

So as I’ve mentioned, I’m re-branding. This is no simple task, but best to do it now and I’m pretty excited about it. When we moved back here in Summer of 2011, I for the most part stopped taking and doing web/graphic design jobs. I grew a little weary of designing graphically for others, especially if I didn’t connect with the work. Even more than that, being on the computer and working out technical issues to make something look just right got a tiring. I still kept on a few clients, that I’ve just grown a friendship with over time. I’m known in that realm as Erin Wallace Photography & Design.

I started carving prints and making shirts and I really do enjoy it. I love the feeling of creating with my hands. I’m known with this as Dandelion Dream. I think almost every handmade shop owner and crafter will tell you that you definitely go through seasons. Of inspiration and creation. Sometimes the inspiration or drive isn’t there. For me, Chris has been gone a lot the past two years with schools, in and outs, deployment and underways. I believe my kids really need me, and that trumped me pursuing this fully. Recently I’ve missed it, I’ve been re-inspired with a couple new ideas and I want to create. I’ll be sharing those this next week! That being said, if you ever see something handmade (at a craft fair or on etsy) and you think “I’ll get that later”, remember that this is a handmade shop, not mass produced. You never know if they’ll be open later, or selling that product. I’ve made that mistake before, gone back to the shop but three months later and they had decided to take a break (with a new baby). So my best advice, if you want it, get it now before its gone.

I started blogging about 3 or so years ago as Tiny Twist Creative. I really wanted a space to just talk about art & design and incorporating that with my kids. My blogging space has really grown and I’ve met some amazing people through it, learned so much about how I want to educate and mother my kids, I’ve been able to share and “meet” other adoptive families, write with a neat group of conscience purposeful mamas, and contribute to some really neat online magazines.

So, three different names but all just me. I actually have two different sets of business cards (dandelion dream & erin wallace). Recently, I’ve taken several new graphic design jobs, aside from my current clients. With the pending adoption, it is just smart. I’ve actually really enjoyed them and I’m not doing as much html/flash work but a lot of customized wordpress sites, providing several abilities that flash would not. I’ve been doing branding and print design. Keeping with my photography roots, I also now share photoshop actions here on the blog. I’m also continuing on in my handmade shop. There are a couple new designs in mind, and I also have quite a bit of stock. I’m hoping to relaunch. I will not be doing customized orders, I will simply sell what I have. You can always ask, but unless I have something blank in stock it just can’t happen. I do have a huge sale going on right now in my shop. I’m trying to clear out my winter inventory. For fair trade and organic cotton, there are some great deals! As for blogging, I will continue to blog away. I enjoy keeping record of our life and my creative endeavors, I enjoy the people I’ve met through the blogging world, so that will definitely not stop. A while back I started a series on watercolors, and I’m planning on picking that back up, and incorporating it within my design and handmade shop. So, they are all sort of blending together and with that I wanted to create one name that everything could fall under. That’s how Tiny Dreamer Creative was born. There is even more behind it, but this post is long and I hear rustling of my littles waking in the house, so I’ll save it for a later update.
In the meantime please go like my brand new facebook page, and check out my etsy sale!

This week’s action is called Rosy Faire. I’ve started a new thing this time of putting this action within a folder so that you can adjust the opacity of the action. I realized this past week, one of my favorite actions to use for outdoors is Butterfly Bright. It really really can make your picture pop, and yet sometime its a little overkill. If it was in a folder (which I’ll make sure to do that to my previous ones), I could just lower the opacity a bit. So this week, I’ve done that with Rosy Faire. I think your going to like this little action.

All that to say, is last weekend we got away, and it was lovely! Here are some before and after photos using this action:

Noah my outdoor explorer: Before.

And After.

Camille just loved meeting the horses. Here is the before shot:

——–
A little side note. I am re-branding. I simply have to many names out there (dandelion dream, tiny twist creative, erin wallace photography & design). I’ve decided to keep it all under one roof to my new name: Tiny Dreamer Creative. I’ll write a longer post, that will include a giveaway. But for now, please hop over and like my brand new facebook page! I’m excited about these changes.

Spoiled, I tell you! Its only been about a month and I received more pictures of sweet Lainey. A few this time and in a couple she had big tears in her eyes. Chris and I are smitten, and the teary eyes… man he’s going to be in trouble with this cutie.

Now as far as where we are at in the process:
Last week we submitted our I-600. Which is the Petition to Classify Orphan as Immediate Relative with USCIS (US Citizen and Immigration Service). We already submitted our I-600A, about a year and a half ago. The I-600A was the approval with our home study, birth certificates, marriage license, fingerprints, etc. that we actually could adopt internationally. With what I submitted last week it included the I-600 approval, and their list of requirements including her birth certificate, act of adoption, abandonment story etc.

We got it all in the mail and what an amazing feeling it is to finally be that much closer, a HUGE step towards completing this adoption. Now we wait for i-600 approval. Once that is granted, the 3-6 month wait for the U.S. Embassy to investigate begins. We are praying it is less. We are ready to have this little one home with us, every picture she gets bigger and cuter! Little Lainey, if you only knew how much we already love you!

Here are a few more pictures from our spring break, using the new action Pop Simple. Its a really light action to brighten, sharpen and give your photo a subtle pop.

Noah has recently really gotten into the old school little people, the peg people style. I mentioned it to my friend, and she gave me this old school plane for Noah. I gave it to him while he was healing and he really enjoyed it.
Here is a before picture:

And after Pop Simple is applied.

He loved it so much that he asked Cami to paint a picture of it. The moment she did he gasped and ran to the couch, as he looked at the picture exclaimed “I love it, Cami, I love the picture.” It was such a sweet moment.

While we were thankful to have the week off from school for Noah to recover, I also knew that I needed to be intentional with Sweet Cami whose week was spent mostly at the house instead of playdates and extra time at the pool while we were allowing her little brother to recover. Its so fun with my little Cam because we both love doing artwork together. We spent many hours at the table together working on little projects (some which I hope to share)! Lots of drawing and watercoloring just the two of us, made for two happy girls, and a wonderFULL spring break.

Here’s a before shot that Chris snapped of us:

And after:

This action is such a slight action that brings a little pop and color, I love it!
