Just some casual bits (nonsense?) that popped into my mind during one insignificant hour.

Insane Clown Posse, Sarah Jones, Jahcoozi, Antibalas and Eric Burdon all make strong points wrapped in wonderful vibes. DJ Spooky, on the other hand, while creating a phenomenal remix record with his Adbusters release, only sports a shallow message. The connecting line here is the the same line that goes between the vibes and the lyrics of these tracks. Not really sure it fits the definition of a ‘line’.

This is the highlight of the beginning of my summer in July. The play list consists of a list of artists I have just discovered from the Dour! Just to get an idea of the atmosphere, which is pretty groovy!

Dour Festival

I happened to stumble upon Abbey Road Studio last Sunday while I was taking my weekend stroll around the neighborhood. It puzzled me when I saw people taking pictures of these horrible graffiti but oh now i know why. I never realized that the studio is just 10 minutes away from my house! I have unintentionally and accidentally made my way to Abbey Road all these years. As I walked across the zebra stripes, I thought how many people or artists have been inspired by The Beatles. Therefore, that was how this show came about.

The emergence of the technology and the music genre gives an applause to Leon Scott de Martinville (first recorded sound outlines onto cylinders coated with carbon), the famous Thomas A.Edison ( phonograph), Thaddeus Cahill (Telharmonium), Lee Deforest (Audion) and others.
This was led into a break through in classical music. They began to experiment with this new fascinating existence that expanded their horizons. Leon Theremin made his Etherphone, Luigi Russolo held his first ‘art of noise’ concert based on the Futurist Manifesto. Capturing the ‘real world’ sounds was possible by then; hence, the emergence of electroacoustics music or music concrete. Pierre Schaeffer began to manipulate sounds around him through recordings.
People would go beyond the bounds of what was once defined as music with technology. Nevertheless classical music can never be forgotten. Therefore, it still leaves an influence in the new music genres.

In 1971 Gavin Bryars joined Alan Power to work on a film about the people living around the area of Elephant and Castle and Waterloo Stations in London. In the course of being filmed, some people broke into drunken song – sometimes bits of opera, sometimes sentimental ballads – and one, who in fact did not drink, sang a religious song “Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet”.
Listening to the hymn later Bryars noticed that it was in perfect pitch and formed an effective loop. While working on the tape, Bryars left his studio for a few hours, leaving the door open. Coming back he noticed that the normally lively room was unnaturally subdued. People were moving slowly and some were sitting alone, quietly weeping. He was puzzled until he realized the tape was still playing, and it was the tramp’s singing that overcame the people. Bryars continued to work on the piece, and looked for the tramp to show him the final piece, but by that time the tramp had died.
The movie that the recording was made for was never released. This is a soundtrack for that movie.

This is an extended version of the Mirah special. It’s a special edit made for the radio, adding an extra 20 minutes to the original set, and revealing more of the wonderful Mirah.
Same as the original version, this too is mainly concerned with interleaving the new mixes from Joyride with the originals. Unlike the first one, this adds a few more insights, including live covers and a few more of the wonderful takes Mirah has on life and music. This version was prepared for 106FM and was featured there in a Mirah special a short while ago.

The evolution of ideas is, like the evolution of man, a peculiar thing. This set, starting at one point with a clear idea, and going to another place, makes you wonder at what point did our evolution start, and what was the idea behind it. At the end, of course, just like here the idea doesn’t really matter, it’s all about the music.

In this Indie party you won’t be jumping up and down, screaming along the guitars. In this Indie party, you won’t chew on the same songs over and over again, turning them into a horrible lolly pop. In this Indie party you will House music, and it’s will be more Indie then any guitar you ever heard. This party will be broken, it will be shattered by styles, fractured by beats and it will hammer deep into you. However, this Indie party will be united by one, it will be united by Mirah. This entire party, that will shot you to the dance floor, is all about Mirah and her music. Indie never sounded more kicking, and Mirah never made dance so much, although she did made me feel oh so much already.
This set is a mix of Mirah’s work, but it revolves mainly around the brilliant remixes album she just released titled Joyride. Unlike other remixes albums this one proved to be a masterpiece not only by reflecting other masterpieces, but on its own right, a brilliant and surprising collection of ways for you to get carried away by, to hear Mirah in ways you never dreamed about.
