Are you interested in intellectual property? If you want to find out more about what intellectual property is, or what intellectual property lawyers do, you should come out to the Technology and Intellectual Property (TIP) Group’s Welcome Lunch. We will explain the events that we run during the year, including the Osler Speaker Series, our yearly TIP Conference, and firm tours. We will also let you know about various opportunities for you to get involved in the club.

The 2011 Technology and Intellectual Property Group Conference Starts Tomorrow!!!

Each lunch hour from Tomorrow to Thursday, a stellar line-up of speakers will debate and discuss copyright modernization in Canada.

Dates/Times:
Monday – Wednesday: 12:30 – 2:00 pm in FLC
Thursday: 12:30 – 2:00 pm in BLH

Lunch will be provided on each day!

On Monday, Margaret Wilkinson of the University of Western Ontario and Roanie Levy of Access Copyright will discuss Copyright in the Educational and Academic Setting

Tuesday’s session is entitled Putting the Issue on Table: The Work of Practitioners and Industry Associations in Bill C-32, and will be presented by Brian Isaac and Daniel Faya of Smart & Biggar

Wednesday will be all about Technological Protection Measures and Digital Rights Management, and will feature Catherin Lovrics of Bereskin & Parr and Barry Sookman of McCarthy Tetrault

Finally, Thursday’s session will feature a special lecture from Dr. Michael Geist, the Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-commerce Law at the University of Ottawa.

The 2011 Technology and Intellectual Property Group Conference is just two weeks away!!!

Each lunch hour from February 28th to March 3rd (the week right after reading week), a stellar line-up of speakers will debate and discuss copyright modernization in Canada:

Join the Conference Planning Committee!

We need your help to plan the Annual TIP Group IP Conference. If you are interested in building your resume, demonstrating your interest in IP law, taking a leadership role, contacting law firms for speakers and funding, getting involved with TIP, have creative ideas, etc., then join the Conference Planning Committee! The conference typically takes place in March but some of the work needs to get done before the end of this year. Please email Rachel at rachel.weiner@utoronto.ca expressing your interest and attend the first meeting of the committee on Monday September 27th at 12:30pm in MCR.

You will get the opportunity to meet this year’s Exec, learn more about intellectual
property, hear what the TIP group is about, and find out how you can get involved with the exciting events planned for this year.

Our panel will consist of students who have had IP work experience at a boutique, a full-service firm, as a research assistant or as part of an internship, as well as in other cities.
