Which Food Additives Make Children Behave Badly?

Research has shown that the food additives used in hundreds of children's foods and drinks can cause temper tantrums and disruptive behavior. A Government-funded study confirms what many parents have long suspected about the effect of chemicals put into sweets, biscuits and foods. Colorings in products such as Smarties, Jelly Tots and fizzy drinks could spark behavior changes in up to a quarter of toddlers.
New international analysis shows homoeopathy is safe and effective

Natural Health News — A new report has found strong evidence for the effectiveness and safety of homoeopathy.

The 300-page analysis of existing studies, produced by the Swiss Network for Health Technology Assessment (HTA), will officially be published in the UK on 30th November 2011. However, ahead of its release some of the content of the report has been made available.

The HTA report, exhaustively reviews the scientific literature in homoeopathy, summarising 22 quality trials, 20 of which show positive results for homoeopathy. Four of these showed strong evidence that homoeopathy, as a system of medicine, is efficacious.

It also finds strong supporting evidence for the homoeopathic treatment of allergies and upper-respiratory tract infections.
Spike in US autism rates linked to high-fructose corn syrup consumption
(NaturalNews) A new study published in the journal Clinical Epigenetics reveals that both the Standard American Diet (SAD) and various toxic environmental factors play a definitive and synergistic role in the development of autism. According to the study, high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), mercury in vaccines, and agricultural pesticides are among the many cofactors that contribute to the onset of autism spectrum disorders, all of which deserve more attention from health authorities than they are currently getting.

Renee Dufault from the Food Ingredient and Health Research Institute (FIHRI) and her colleagues examined how various foods and environmental factors affect the neurodevelopment of children, and particularly how these factors inhibit the body's ability to eliminate disease-causing toxins and heavy metals from the system. What the team discovered is that HFCS, for instance, which is a highly-processed chemical sweetener used in many processed foods and beverages, depletes the body of the natural mineral zinc. And zinc, of course, is responsible for cleansing the body of heavy metals like mercury, arsenic, and cadmium, as well as aluminum and other toxins that are known to disrupt proper brain development.
Dirty Secrets of The Food Processing Industry
We have always processed our food; this is an activity that is uniquely human. We chop, soak, cook and ferment our food - as well as grind and dry - these are all types of processing.

Traditional processing has two functions: to make food more digestible and to preserve it for use during times when food isn’t readily available. Nutritious, long-lasing processed foods including pemmican, hard sausage and old-fashioned meat puddings and haggis, as well as grain products, dairy products, pickles—everything from wine and spirits to lacto-fermented condiments. Farmers and artisans—bread makers, cheese makers, distillers, millers and so forth—processed the raw ingredients into delicious foods that retained their nutritional content over many months or even years, and kept the profits on the farm and in the farming communities where they belonged.

Unfortunately, in modern times, we have substituted local artisanal processing with factory and industrial processing, which actually diminishes the quality of the food, rather than making it more nutritious and digestible. Industrial processing depends upon sugar, white flour, processed and hydrogenated oils, synthetic food additives and vitamins, heat treatment and the extrusion of grains.

Dr. Maurice Hilleman made astounding revelations in an interview that was cut from The Health Century -- the admission that Merck drug company vaccines had been injecting dangerous viruses into people worldwide.

Bear in mind that Dr. Hilleman was the developer of Merck's vaccine program. He developed over three dozen vaccines, more than any other scientist in history. He was a member of the U.S. National Academy of Science, the Institute of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. He received a special lifetime achievement award from the World Health Organization. Hilleman was one of the early vaccine pioneers to warn about the possibility that simian viruses might contaminate vaccines.
The Quickest, Easiest Way to Help Detoxify Your Body
Unfortunately your body is under constant daily assault by toxic substances, a great many of which are hard or impossible to completely avoid.

The water you drink, the water you bathe in, and the water you run through your appliances. It is vitally important for you to secure a good, clean source of water, and this is easily done by installing one or more types of water filtration systems in your house.

When you give your body water that is filled with toxins leached from plastic, or filled with by-products from chlorination, or with volatile organic compounds, or water that is contaminated by pesticides or hormones, you are asking your body to work twice as hard at detoxification, because it must first detoxify the water you are drinking, before that water can be used to fuel your organs of detoxification!

Clearly, the most efficient way help your body both avoid and eliminate toxins is to provide your body with the cleanest, purest water you can find. And that may be more of a challenge than you think.
(NaturalNews) A new study put forth by the universities of Navarra and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Spain have found that diets rich in trans-fats -- like the kind found in most fast food meals -- increase the risk of depression by 50 percent. Even in Europe, where trans-fat consumption is far lower than in the U.S., depression rates are considerably higher among trans-fat-consuming populations.
(NaturalNews) Lately there has been a mainstream media (MSM) barrage reporting the vaccinations to autism link is now proven to be false. Even a not so MSM media site recently featured the article "Who Started the Vaccine Autism Hoax?"

Disinformation is created out of intentional lies. That`s Big Pharma`s shtick. Then the MSM journalists take Big Pharma`s press releases and regurgitate them to meet their deadlines. Misinformation is their shtick. Fortunately, there are pockets of reality that expose these press release items as bogus.

Full of sugar, sodium or fat, but short on fiber: Study finds cereals, snacks and meals for kids are not what they appear to be.

The Oakland-based Prevention Institute has just released its new research report: Claiming Health: Front-of-Package Labeling of Children’s Food. The report summarizes the Institute’s investigation of whether kids’ foods with “better-for-you” front-of-package labels meet dietary recommendations and nutrition standards.

Bottom line: they don’t.

Researchers bought 58 kids’ food products made by companies who have promised to meet certain nutritional criteria.
Homeopathic treatment for ear infections is superior to antibiotic treatment and placebo
(NaturalNews) A recent meta-analysis of studies published in JAMA looking at the use of antibiotics for ear infections vs. the watch and wait approach (no treatment) found that the treatment group improved slightly, but the improvements were offset by side effects such as rash and diarrhea. This meta-analysis is scientific proof that no treatment at all is better than antibiotic treatment for ear infections. Superior to no treatment at all is homeopathic treatment. Homeopathy is natural, never has side effects, and is completely safe. Scientific studies have proven that homeopathic treatment is superior to both antibiotic treatment and no treatment at all. Ear infections can be easily treated at home using homeopathic remedies, found in most health stores and natural pharmacies.

The statistics and data keeps coming in. Research implicates the use of chemicals for risk and incidence of disease.
Dumping neurotoxins on plants to inhibit, kill or resist insects and fungus will accumulate in the bodies of those who eat the plants. No amount of washing will clean the residue inside those plants. Over generations of plants sprayed with these chemicals, we will find permanent changes that may be unhealthy and damaging to both the plant and the animals who eat these plants.
Some food additives are worse than others. Food Matters suggests these as the top ones to avoid:

1. Artificial Sweeteners

Aspartame, also known as Nutrasweet and Equal, is believed to be carcinogenic and accounts for more reports of adverse reactions than all other foods and food additives combined. The artificial sweetener Acesulfame-K has been linked to kidney tumors. All artificial sweeteners are bad news.

2. High Fructose Corn Syrup

High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) increases your LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels and contributes to the development of diabetes.
Educated families increasingly refusing vaccinations
(NaturalNews) Educated Americans with private insurance plans are becoming increasingly less prone to vaccinate their children, according to this year's annual State of Health Care Quality report released by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The report states that there was a four percentage point drop in vaccination rates among middle- and upper-class families between 2008 and 2009.

Sarah Thomas, vice president of public policy and communication at NCQA, is quoted as saying to HealthDay "We didn't really explore the reasons [for the trend], but one leading hypothesis is that parents have decided not to get their children vaccinated because of concerns about the potential for side effects and even autism."

Many experts insist that vaccines are one of the greatest public health achievements in the world, but numerous studies point not only to their ineffectiveness, but also to the harm they cause to both children and adults (http://vactruth.com/). Of course, there are other studies out there that insist vaccines are safe and effective, but most, if not all, of these studies are funded by the very drug companies producing the vaccines (http://www.naturalnews.com/030025_v...)
Why does your child have a mystery tummy ache? From fructose!
(NaturalNews) Here's a common scenario: a young child or even a teenager complains of a tummy ache. But he or she has no fever or few other symptoms. So the doctor says there's nothing wrong with the youngster, other than maybe a little gas. So the little kid or adolescent is suspected of faking a stomach problem to stay out of school.

However, a new study just unveiled at the American College of Gastroenterology's (ACG) 75th Annual Scientific meeting held recently in San Antonio, Texas, may have a simple explanation for all those mysterious tummy aches many children swear they have. The culprit? Intolerance to fructose.
Gluten free diet to loose weight

Would you like to loose weight? The gluten free diet is becoming a very popular way to loose weight in Hollywood.

The high protein diet and low carbohydrate diet have been two of the most successful diets to loose weight since some years ago. But it seems that it's not necessary to eliminate all kinds of carbohydrates or grains from your diet, just avoiding the ones with gluten is enough.

I'm not celiac but I'm following a gluten-free and diary-free diet for 2 years, and I have lost 8 kilos. My daughters, that have the same diet because one of them have celiac disease, haven't loose a single gramme, they have grown as normal for their age.

But not only it's good for loosing weight, it's also good for health. In our family, we are nearly never sick now. Before gluten-free diet I often suffered of back aches, digestive problems, itches, eyes infections, etc, and I got a rhinopharyngite at least every 2 months. Since I have a gluten-free diet, I have never had any more of these diseases. My only remaining problem is my dust and pollen hay fever allergy.

In this article at GlutenFreeSociety.com you will find out why the gluten free diet is recommended when loosing weight.
Do you put dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent made of silicone, in your chicken dishes? How about tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), a chemical preservative so deadly that just five grams can kill you?

These are just two of the ingredients in a McDonalds Chicken McNugget. Only 50 percent of a McNugget is actually chicken. The other 50 percent includes corn derivatives, sugars, leavening agents and completely synthetic ingredients.
New home study: Harmful chemicals in our floors, walls

We all know that children's toys should be checked for toxic chemicals, and many studies have done so, prompting removal of harmful chemicals and recalls of harmful products. Now a new study from the Ecology Center is focusing on home improvement products like flooring and wallpaper.

What chemicals are we exposing our families to in our homes?

The report found:

- 5% of all flooring samples had detectable levels of lead. Products with the highest percent of lead included vinyl sheet flooring and vinyl tile flooring.

- Two-thirds of PVC flooring tiles contained organotin stabilizers. Some forms of organotins are endocrine disruptors and other forms can impact the developing brain and are toxic to the immune system.

- 96% of the wallpapers sampled contained polyvinyl chloride (PVC) coatings. PVC has chemical additives including phthalates, lead and cadmium, all of which are harmful to children even at low levels.

- Over 50% of PVC wallpaper samples contained one or more hazardous chemicals of concern including lead, cadmium, chromium, tin and antimony.

- Nearly one in five wallpaper samples contained detectable levels of cadmium. All wallpaper with cadmium was vinyl coated.

New Study Finds this Fat Useful to Improve ADHD

A clinical study in children with ADHD showed that they significant improved both their clinical scores and identified EEG patterns when their diets were supplemented with krill oil for a period of 13 weeks.

The EEG patterns of the study participants were compared to a database of more than 400 children with an established ADHD diagnosis, providing ample comparative data. Dr. Hogne Wik said, “This is an important observation identifying positive effects on the central nervous system (CNS) after supplementation of krill oil in humans. For the first time objective EEG-measurements -- before and after a 90 day intervention period with krill oil—have confirmed observed improvements in a clinical CNS condition.”

Exercise builds smarter brains in youngsters
Want to raise healthy and smart children? Then don't allow them to be couch potatoes. Exercise, it turns out, does more than benefit the body and overall health -- physical fitness builds smarter brains in youngsters, too.

That's the news from a study just published in the journal Brain Research. Scientists used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure the relative size of specific structures in the brains of 49 children, all of whom were 9 or 10 years old. The research team discovered that the hippocampus (part of the brain inside the temporal lobe that plays an important part in memory and learning) tended to be significantly larger in the kids who were physically fit. What's more, the fit children performed better on a memory test than youngsters the same age who were out of shape.
“Swapping genes between organisms can produce unknown toxic effects and allergies that are most likely to affect children.” --Vyvyan Howard, expert in infant toxico-pathology at Liverpool University Hospital, United Kingdom.

The UK Royal Society said that genetic modification “could lead to unpredicted harmful changes in the nutritional state of foods” and recommended that potential health effects of GM foods be rigorously researched before being fed to pregnant or breast-feeding women and babies.”

Epidemiologist Eric Brunner said that “small changes to the nutritional content might have effects on infant bowel function.”
National survey identifies higher risk of food allergies among children, males, non-Hispanic blacks and people with asthma Food allergies are more common among people with asthma and may contribute to asthma attacks, according to one of the most comprehensive surveys of food allergies ever undertaken. Andrew H. Liu and his colleagues also report that food allergies are more prevalent among children, males and non-Hispanic blacks.
"Our study suggests that food allergies may be an important factor, and even an under-recognized trigger for severe asthma exacerbations," said Dr. Liu. "People with a food allergy and asthma should closely monitor both conditions and be aware that they might be related."
Breastfeeding May Cut Infection Risk for Babies

Exclusively breastfed babies have fewer and less severe infections as infants regardless of the standard of health care or vaccinations they receive, according to a new study. But partially breastfed babies may not enjoy these protective effects.

"Exclusive breastfeeding helps protect infants against common infections and lessens the frequency and severity of infectious episodes not only in developing countries but also in communities with adequate vaccination coverage and healthcare standards," writes researcher Fani Ladomenou, of the University of Crete in Heraklion, Greece, in the Archives of Disease in Childhood.

Although several studies have shown breastfeeding reduces the risk of a number of common childhood infections, researchers say it has not been clear whether other factors, such as standard of health care or immunization, play a role.
Celiac Disease Can Develop at Any Age

New research shows that you can develop celiac disease at any age -- even if you previously tested negative for this autoimmune intestinal disorder.

During the past 30 years, there has been a fivefold increase in the prevalence of celiac disease, and a lot of these cases occurred in elderly people, according to a study published in the Annals of Medicine.

"This has been such an unexpected result," says study researcher Alessio Fasano, MD, director of the University of Maryland's School of Medicine Center for Celiac Research and their Mucosal Biology Research Center in Baltimore. "Our impression was always that this disease began in childhood, and went under the radar screen and surfaced later on with symptoms."
Be careful or you might catch obesity, suggests new study
(NaturalNews) A new report published in the journal Pediatrics has many common sense folks scratching their heads in confusion. Childhood obesity has become a major problem with more than 17 percent of American children now overweight, and most people realize that poor diet and lack of exercise are to blame. But a new study has somehow linked a flu-related antibody to being overweight, suggesting that it may be possible to actually "catch" obesity from an obese person.

According to the report, children who have been exposed to "adenovirus 36" (AD36), a common cause of respiratory and eye infections in humans, are apparently more likely to be fat than children who have never been exposed. Researchers came to this conclusion by sampling 124 children, in which 22 percent of those who were overweight had antibodies from AD36 in their bodies as opposed to only seven percent among those who were of a normal weight. From this, they concluded that the antibody must play some role in causing obesity.

Such reasoning, of course, is absolutely ridiculous because every medical professional knows that correlation does not imply causation, especially when it takes an extreme stretch of the imagination to make a connection, particularly one between a virus and obesity. But this fact did not stop the team from suggesting that obesity may be caused by a virus.

A new study is the first to provide a comprehensive characterization of the effects of disinfection by-products (DBPs) in an indoor pool environment. It found that swimming in indoor chlorinated pools may induce DNA damage that can lead to cancer.

DBPs form from reactions between disinfectants and organic matter. Previous studies have found an association between DBPs in drinking water and bladder cancer. The new study looked at close to 50 healthy adults after they swam for 40 minutes in the chlorinated pool. The researchers found increases in two genotoxicity biomarkers associated with cancer risk.

(NaturalNews) Toddlers who watch television are significantly more likely to have poor health and poor educational performance by age 10, according to a study conducted by researchers from the University of Montreal and published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.

At the age of 10, children who had watched more TV as youngsters were significantly more likely to be rated by their teachers as having lower levels of classroom engagement and poorer performance in math. They were also less likely to be active and more likely to drink more soft drinks and have a higher body mass index.
Despite what you may have hears, the evidence of a connection between mercury exposure and autism keeps growing.

Last month, two scientists published a fascinating review paper. They investigated what the published evidence linking autism and mercury really said. They found and reviewed more than 150 articles.

Are Flame Retardants Putting Our Health at Risk?

Chemical flame retardants have made their way into a very long list of mundane everyday household objects. This was no doubt originally intended to help save lives, which it has done. Unfortunately a string of studies published over the past few decades have shown that flame retardants may also be putting our health at risk in other ways.

There has been growing concern about the long term side-effects of Polybrominated diphenyl ethers, or PBDEs, in particular. PBDEs are a family of closely related chemicals that have been a popular form of flame retardant since the late 1970s. They are commonly found in a number of everyday consumer products ranging from computers and home theater components, to clothing, and even the stuffing in your mattress.

Whenever your PC or home stereo heats up due to normal use, its plastic casing releases a small amount of PBDE into the air. Like many toxins, exposure to PDBEs doesn’t normally trigger an acute response from the body, but it can have a serious cumulative effect. As concentrations build up in the body, there is an increased risk of permanent nervous and reproductive system damage.

A lab hired by the United Commercial Fishermen's Association analyzed coastal fishing waters. The results indicate that the U.S. government's claim that Gulf of Mexico seafood is safe to eat may be premature.

The lab found dispersant in a sample taken near Biloxi, Missouri, almost a month after BP said it had stopped using the toxic chemical to break up crude oil from the Gulf spill.

New Research: Soy Formula Affects Reproductive Development in Mice

by Dr. Edward Group

You might already know that I’m not a big fan of certain non-fermented soy products. The results of a newly published study on the effects of soy formula on the reproductive systems of mice only underscores how bad they can be for the body.

In this particular study, newborn mice were fed soy formula mixed with a plant derived isoflavone called genistein. Isoflavones occur naturally in a number of legumes, including soy beans. And while many types of isoflavones are rich in antioxidants and other healthful compounds, genistein specifically, has been connected to a wide range of serious health concerns such as cancer and, as this article points out, reproductive abnormalities.

A new study was done to see if the placebo effect is greater in homeopathy than conventional medicines. Researchers went through literature to match homeopathy trials to conventional trials. These trials matched classical homeopathy trials. In classical homeopathy trials, each remedy is individualized for each person and condition.

Some matches had to be excluded for the data because insufficient amount of data. Other matches were excluded because there was not a sufficient match on the conventional side to compare against. Similar criteria was evaluated for each trial. 25 trials were evaluated. 13 trials showed the placebo effect in homeopathy to be more than conventional medicines. 12 trials showed the placebo effect in conventional medicines to be greater than homeopathy. The researchers found that the placebo effect in homeopathy is no greater than in conventional medicines.

According to research, school children who consume foods purchased in vending machines are more likely to develop poor diet quality – and that may be associated with being overweight, obese or at risk for chronic health problems such as diabetes and coronary artery disease.

The study also looked at foods sold in school stores, snack bars and other related sales that compete with USDA lunch program offerings and found that these pose the same health and diet risks in school-aged children.

"The foods that children are exposed to early on in life influence the pattern for their eating habits as adults," says lead study author Madhuri Kakarala.
Evidence-based vaccinations: A scientific look at the missing science behind flu season vaccines
(NaturalNews)Conventional medicine, they say, is really "Evidence-Based Medicine" (EBM). That is, everything promoted by conventional medicine is supposed to be based on "rigorous scientific scrutiny." It's all supposed to be statistically validated and proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it works as advertised. And in the case of flu vaccines, they are advertised as providing some sort of absolute protection against influenza. "Don't miss work this flu season. Get a flu shot!" The idea, of course, is that getting a flu shot offers 100% protection from the flu. If you get a shot, they say, you won't miss work from sickness.

This implication is wildly inaccurate. In fact, it's just flat-out false. As you'll see below, it's false advertising wrapped around junk science.

You see, there was never an independent, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study proving either the safety or effectiveness of the H1N1 swine flu vaccines that were heavily pushed last year (and are in fact in this year's flu shot cocktail). No such study has ever been done. As a result, there is no rigorous scientific basis from which to sell such vaccines in the first place.

The three ice cream continue to use milk from cows injected with rBGH, a hormone that's been banned in Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Australia and all 27 nations of the European Union. Meanwhile, Haagen Dazs and Breyers have the audacity to call their ice cream "All Natural."

(NaturalNews) "Endocrine disrupting" chemicals that mimic or interfere with the body's natural sex hormones are partially responsible for early puberty in girls, according to a study conducted by researchers from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.

"Research has shown that early pubertal development in girls can have adverse social and medical effects, including cancer and diabetes later in life," researcher Mary Wolff said. "Our research shows a connection between chemicals that girls are exposed to on a daily basis and either delayed or early development."
Strawberries grown from seeds injected with DNA from arctic flounder fish to make them frost resistant. Seeds pumped with suicide genes that yield an infertile harvest so corporations can profit from a patent placed on the plant’s genetic code. Rice injected with traits that make it more nutritious so those in parts of the world where vitamin deficiencies are often fatal have a dependable source of vitamins. Wheat injected with bacteria that renders its grain resistant to pesticides and insecticides. Cows injected with artificial sex hormones so they produce more milk.

It’s the existence of these genetically modified organisms (GMOs)—some on the market, some not—that make Sarah Rogan, mother of three, visibly shaken and uneasy at the mere thought of her children eating fast food or school lunch, whether it’s green beans or pizza.
Prayer can help bring healing, say researchers
(NaturalNews) Researchers from Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington recently conducted a study on the effects of praying directly with someone for healing. According to Candy Gunther Brown, an associate professor in the Department of Religious Studies at IU and author of the study, "proximal intercessory prayer", as she calls it, can actually help to bring about healing.

Published in the Southern Medical Journal, the study is part of a larger research project investigating the power of spiritual healing practices to heal disease. For this particular study, Brown and her team investigated two charismatic Christian groups known for their healing prayer activities, one from Africa and one from South America.

The team measured the hearing and vision capabilities of impaired people both before and after they received proximal intercessory prayer, and discovered a "statistically significant" improvement in many of them after they had received prayer.
In response to reports that the ingredients may pose health risks, McDonald's China claims that additives in its chicken McNuggets are "harmless". They said that the use of tertiary butylhydroquinone meets Chinese food safety standards. However, "the chemical is toxic to some extent," according to Liu Qingchun, a nutritionist at the General Hospital of Armed Police Forces. Alarming new scientific evidence shows that artificial colors found in thousands of foods may pose a risk of cancer, hyperactivity and allergic reactions.

The research, conducted by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), calls for common food colors to be banned. CSPI said the colors were contaminated with known carcinogens and shown to cause cancer in rats.

Are You Slowly Killing Your Family with Hidden Dioxane in Your Laundry Detergent?

When most people think of pollution, they think of the outdoors -- garbage-choked streams or industrial waste. But you probably spend a large portion of your time indoors -- as much as 80 to 90 percent of your life. You work, study, eat, drink and sleep in enclosed environments where air circulation may be restricted.

The typical American home contains 3-10 GALLONS of toxic materials -- everything from glass and bathroom cleaners to garden pesticides and fertilizers.

Health effects of ingredients in common household products include:

Respiratory problems

Eye irritation

Cancer

Disruption of the endocrine system

As a result of cleaners and other toxic household products, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that the air inside the typical home is 2-5 times more polluted than the air immediately outside -- and in extreme cases, 100 times more contaminated.
More than 85 percent of children's drinks contain so much lead they may exceed federal limits for young children.

Both organic and conventional juices were included in the lead-tainted products. Of 146 products, 125 were contaminated with enough lead in a single serving to require a warning label under California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act.

More and more girls are reaching puberty before the age of 10. The phenomenon could be linked to obesity or exposure to chemicals in the food chain. It is putting girls at greater long-term risk of breast cancer.

A study has revealed that breast development now typically starts at an average age of 9 years and 10 months -- an entire year earlier than what a similar study found in 1991.

Children in households with set bedtimes and children who get adequate sleep score higher on a range of developmental assessments.

Results indicate that a regular bedtime was the sleep habit which was the most consistent predictor of positive developmental outcomes at the age of 4. Children whose parents reported having rules about what time their child goes to bed had higher scores for receptive and expressive language, phonological awareness, literacy and early math abilities.

One week of supplementation with Lactobacillus reuteri Protectis may reduce crying time in infants with colic by 74 per cent, compared with less than 40 per cent in the placebo group, says a new study.
After three weeks of supplementation 84 per cent of infants receiving L. reuteri Protectis no longer had colic, compared with only 43 placebo group, according to results presented today at the Annual Meeting of ESPGHAN in Istanbul.

Milk may be more heart healthy if it comes from dairy cows grazed on grass instead of on feedlots.

Cows on a diet of fresh grass produce milk with five times as much of an unsaturated fat called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which animal studies have suggested can protect your heart and aid in weight loss.

Now, according to Reuters:

“[Researchers] found, in a study of 4,000 people, that people with the highest concentrations of CLAs -- the top fifth among all participants -- had a 36 percent lower risk of heart attack compared to those with the lowest concentrations.”

Acute attacks of hay fever often respond to homeopathic remedies. Allergies are usually deep-seated problems, and are often best addressed with a constitutional remedy and the guidance of an experienced practitioner. On this article you will find useful homeopathic remedies for hay fever. For example,

Allium cepa: Indications for this remedy include watery eyes and a clear nasal discharge that irritates the upper lip, along with sneezing and a tickling cough. The person usually is thirsty, and feels worse indoors and when rooms are warm, and better in fresh air.

Read about other remedies: Arsenicum album, Euphrasia, Ferrum phosphoricum, Gelsemium, Natrum muriaticum, Nux vomica, Sabadilla and Wyethia.
No Silver Lining about BPA in Cans

Today, a report was released revealing new information about the amount of bisphenol-A (BPA) in our food products. Researchers collected 50 food and beverage containers from several states and Ontario, Canada. The cans contained a wide variety of products, and were sent to a laboratory to be tested for BPA levels.

BPA is the ubiquitous chemical that is in hard plastics, can liners, register receipts and baby products and is known to cause health effects including impaired brain and reproductive development in unborn babies, miscarriage in pregnant women, diabetes, obesity and cancer.
