Changes in the structure of JEE From 2018

The Committee of Eminent Persons (CEP) constituted by the IIT Council under the Chairmanship of Prof Ashok Misra has submitted its report to the Government of India on 5 November, 2015. The Committee made the following recommendations:

Changes in the structure of JEE From 2018

A National Testing Service will be set up to conduct an Aptitude Test, for testing scientific aptitude and innovative thinking ability. The computer based aptitude test may be conducted 2 or more times in a year. Based on the performance, about 4 lakh candidates shall be short-listed for taking the JEE.
The JEE itself will be on the lines of the current JEE (Advanced) and designed to test the knowledge in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. From this, ranks will be issued to 40,000+ students who can seek admission in IITs and NITs based on a common counselling.

For 2016 and 2017

For 2016 and 2017, the practice of two tier JEE exam will be continued. The top 2,00,000 students from JEE (Main) will be allowed to appear in JEE (Advanced).
More than 40,000 ranks will be issued in JEE (Advanced).
Joint counselling for IITs and NITs will be continued.
Board marks will not to be counted for giving rankings this year for NITs, CFTIs, etc.
The Government has decided to place the recommendations of the Report in the public domain for widespread consultation with the stakeholders.

JEE Main 2016 Result – Procedure to Check

CBSE has made the process very simple to
check JEE Main Result. To check JEE Main
Result, candidates just need to follow the steps below:

Log on to CBSE results or CBSE official
website.

Click on the link which Says JEE Main Result

There you will find a box to fill the application number and password

Click the Submit button, the score of JEE Main will be displayed on the screen.

Note: It is better to take a hard E-Copy of the
displayed JEE Main 2016 result. No JEE Main score Card will be dispatched to the
candidates and they are advised to download it, when available.

JEE Main 2016 Result – Details

Score and merit of the JEE Main 2016 will be announced separately, with the duration of almost a month. It will happen in such a
manner because the merit/rank of JEE is
evaluated by giving 60% weightage to JEE
(Main) score and 40% to class 12th/equivalent scores. The score of JEE is announced in the
month of April, whereas, the score of School
Boards is usually released in the month of May-June. Hence, CBSE needs time to normaluze.

JEE Main All India Rank.

JEE Main 2016 All India Rank (AIR)

The JEE Main Result 2016 and All India Rank will be published by CBSE. The scores will be declared in last week of April. The AIR declaration will be done after compiling JEE Main scores and board results.

In case of a tie, i.e. when two or more
candidates obtain equal marks (by giving 60% weightage to performance in JEE (Main) and 40% weightage to normalised marks in Class 12th or equivalent qualifying examination), inter-se merit of such candidates shall be decided in the following order:

Rank list for admission to B.E/B.Tech(in
institutions other than IITs)

Resolution by marks obtained in Mathematics in JEE (Main). Candidate obtaining higher marks will be given better rank.

Resolution by marks obtained in Physics in the JEE (Main). Candidate obtaining higher
marks will be given better rank.

Resolution by total normalised qualifying exam marks. Candidate obtaining higher normalised marks will be given better rank.

Resolution by finding the ratio of positive
marks and negative marks. Candidate having higher absolute value of the ratio will be given better rank.

If the resolution is not possible after this
criterion, candidates will be given the same
rank.
Rank list for admission to B.Arch/B.Planning
(in institutions other than IITs)

Resolution by marks obtained in Aptitude Test in Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) in JEE
(Main) – 2016. Candidate obtaining higher
marks will be given better rank.
Resolution by marks obtained in Drawing Test in Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) in JEE
(Main) – 2016. Candidate obtaining higher
marks will be given better rank.
Resolution by total normalised qualifying exam marks. Candidates obtaining higher normalised marks will be given better rank.
Resolution by finding the ratio of positive
marks and negative marks. Candidate having higher absolute value of the ratio will be given better rank.

If the resolution is not possible after this
criterion, candidates will be given the same
rank.

All participating institutes that do not use the centralised Seat Allocation Process will prepare their own ranking based on the performance in JEE (Main) and other criteria as decided by them.

On the basis of score in JEE Main 2016 and
normalized score in class 12th or equivalent
qualifying exam (60% & 40% weightage
respectively), separate rank lists will be
prepared for admission to B.E./B. Tech. and B. Arch/ B. Planning (in institutions other than IITs). This will be declared tentatively in first week of July.

JEE Main 2016 Rank Card indicating All India Rank, State Rank and Category Rank with total marks and marks in each paper will be available after the declaration of Result of JEE Main 2016. Only
the All India Rank (AIR) is used for admissions to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs/SFIs/Others, while other ranks are for information purposes.

JEE Main 2016 Score

JEE Main 2016 is of total 360 marks and each section (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) carries 120 marks. The total number of questions is 90 divided equally in each subject.
There is negative marking of 1 mark for an
incorrect response. No marks will be given for un-attempted questions. The score of JEE Main is determined by following the process below:

Allocate 4 marks for a correct answer.
Deduct ¼ marks for an incorrect answer.
Through this method, the overall and the
sectional marks of the candidates will be
evaluated. The in the JEE Main 2016 result ,
these scores will be reflected.

JEE Main 2016 Result Previous Year Trends
Last year, the CBSE and State Board had a
conflict of interest due to which the issuanceof the result was delayed. Sooner or later itwas released and Sankalp Gaur immerged as the topped, by scoring 345 marks out of the total of 360. The JEE Main cutoff for previous year was as below:

JEE Main Result – Upcoming Trends
In the recently released notice, MHRD has
announced that from next year onwards the
normalization of class 12th marks will not be
considered for the evaluation of the JEE Main
results. Currently Class XII scores are given
40% weightage in JEE (Main). Admission to the
IITs will continue to be on the basis of the
performance of students in JEE (Advanced).
Class XII scores will not have any weightage.
Yet, the qualifying exam marks will remain
important eligibility criteria and candidates will
have to secure either more than 75% marks or must secure a position among top 20%
percentile students. It has also decided to
increase the fees at the Indian Institutes of
Technology (IITs) from Rs.90,000 a year to
Rs.2 lakh a year Engineering candidates vying for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for premier engineering institutes from 2017 onwards will be required to score 75 percent marks in their
Class 12 board examinations. The States of Gujarat, Nagaland, Madhya
Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system.

Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) - 2016 application form online.

Prepare for exam in one week

If you are preparing for IIT JEE, The first thing one must do is attempt/try solving as many previous year papers as you can get a hold of. QUESTIONS IN THESE PAPERS ARE OFTEN REPEATED (if not the exact same question, then similar questions can definitely come). Why loose marks in questions which have already appeared in earlier tests?

A few questions in these papers are formula based. So make sure you remember all PCM formulae and have thorough knowledge of how and when to apply which.

These tests are primarily speed tests. The hardly test your mental ability or conceptual understanding. These tests how quickly you can answer simple, straight forward questions. So if you are naturally slow in solving problems, you are in for trouble. Remember that people, who top these tests, finish the entire test. People who are just able to make it, attempt at least 80% of the test. But knowing this, if you now try to hurry up and try to attempt all questions (without making sure if the choice you entered was correct or not), then you might loose marks in negative marking. So try to be fast; give lots of model tests at home; see your score for yourself at the end of the test; observe your improvement.

Candidates who are desirous of opting for the B. Arch. program available at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee (as one of the choices while filling-in their choices during joint seat allotment) must appear in AAT.

Candidates must register online at the JEE (Advanced) 2016 online portal for AAT.

AAT will be conducted only at the seven Zonal IITs.

The test will consist of one paper of three hours duration.

The question paper for the aptitude test will be available only in English language.

No separate admit card will be issued for AAT. The original admit card of JEE (Advanced) 2016 should be produced in the AAT examination hall.

Candidates should bring their own drawing and colouring aids.

The Joint Implementation Committee of JEE (Advanced) 2016 will decide the cut-off marks for passing AAT.

Results of AAT will be declared on the JEE (Advanced) 2016 online portal.

Candidates securing marks above the cut-off will be declared PASS in the test. There is no separate ranking in the AAT. There is no separate cut-off for students of any category.

Allotment of seat will be solely based on the category-wise All India Rank in the JEE (Advanced) 2016.

I have taken admission into one of the NITs in 2015. Am I eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2016?

Yes. Candidates who have taken admissions in NITs in 2015 are also eligible for appearing in JEE (Advanced) 2016, if they satisfy all other eligibility criteria given here.

I have accepted seat through JoSAA 2015. Am I eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2016?

If you have accepted seat in IITs/ISM then you areNOT eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2016. However, if you have accepted a seat in NITs/IIITs/Other GFTIs through JoSAA 2015 then you are eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2016.

I have taken admission in one of the IITs/ISM for preparatory course. Am I eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2016?

Yes. You are eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2016 subject to fulfilling other eligible criteria.

Writing Paper-1 and Paper-2 in JEE (Advanced) 2016 compulsory?

Yes, it is compulsory. If a candidate is absent in one of the papers, then the candidate will be considered as absent in the examination.

Can I get question paper in Hindi language?

Yes. JEE (Advanced) 2016 offers question papers in two languages: English and Hindi. Candidates have to choose the language option during the JEE (Advanced) 2016 registration.

Can I get question papers in English as well as in Hindi?

Candidates will get only one question paper - either English question paper or Hindi question paper but not both.

Will the question paper be bilingual (both in Hindi and English)?

No. Candidate will get the question papers in only one language (English or Hindi).

If I am absent in one of the papers, will my result be declared?

You will be considered absent in the examination and the result will not be prepared. It is compulsory to appear in both the papers for result preparation.

Are PIO and OCI card holders eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2016?

Yes. All foreign nationals including PIO and OCI card holders are eligible. Please refer to the relevant section of Information Brochure for more information.

I am a defense service personnel. Can my child get a seat under DS category?

Not all defense service personnels' children are eligible for DS category seats. DS category seats are earmarked for children of defence / paramilitary personnel killed or permanently disabled in action during war or peacetime operations.

During examination can I modify my answers bubbled on ORS?

No. Since the bubbling on ORS is done using only black ball point pen, candidates cannot modify the answers once bubbled

Score and Result for JEE (Main) - 2016

I. The score of Paper-I of JEE (Main) – 2016 for all candidates will be declared by 27th April 2016. This
score shall comprise the actual marks obtained in Paper-I of JEE (Main) – 2016 along with the status
of those who qualify for appearing in JEE (Advanced) – 2016 provided and subject to other
conditions of eligibility being met.

II. separately, on the basis of score in JEE (Main)-2016 and normalised score in Class 12th or equivalent
qualifying exam (60% & 40% weightage respectively), separate rank lists will be prepared for
admission to B.E./B. Tech. and B. Arch/ B. Planning (in institutions other than IITs). This will be declared
on or before 30th of June 2016. JEE (Main)-2016 Rank Card indicating All India Rank, State Rank and
Category Rank with total marks and marks in each paper will be available on JEE (Main) website
after the declaration of result.

III. Only the All India Rank (AIR) is used for admissions through Central Seat Allocation Board to
NITs/IIITs/CFTIs/SFIs/Others, while other ranks are for information purposes.

IV. No score/rank card will be dispatched to the candidates and the candidates are advised to
download their score/rank cards from the JEE (Main) website http://jeemain.nic.in only.

V. In case of a tie, i.e. when two or more candidates obtain equal marks (by giving 60% weightage to
performance in JEE (Main) and 40% weightage to normalised marks in Class 12th or equivalent
qualifying examination), inter-se merit of such candidates shall be decided in the following order:
Rank list for admission to B.E/B.Tech(in institutions other than IITs)
· Resolution by marks obtained in Mathematics in JEE (Main) – 2016. Candidate obtaining higher
marks will be given better rank.
· Resolution by marks obtained in Physics in the JEE (Main) – 2016. Candidate obtaining higher
marks will be given better rank.
· Resolution by total normalised qualifying exam marks. Candidate obtaining higher normalised
marks will be given better rank.
· Resolution by finding the ratio of positive marks and negative marks. Candidate having higher
absolute value of the ratio will be given better rank.
· If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank.
Rank list for admission to B.Arch/B.Planning(in institutions other than IITs)
· Resolution by marks obtained in Aptitude Test in Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) in JEE (Main) –
2016. Candidate obtaining higher marks will be given better rank.
· Resolution by marks obtained in Drawing Test in Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) in JEE (Main) –
2016. Candidate obtaining higher marks will be given better rank.
· Resolution by total normalised qualifying exam marks. Candidates obtaining higher normalised
marks will be given better rank.
· Resolution by finding the ratio of positive marks and negative marks. Candidate having higher
absolute value of the ratio will be given better rank.
· If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank.

VI. The answer keys and images of response sheets (OMR sheets) of Pen & Paper Based examination
and Computer based examination will be displayed on the website www.jeemain.nic.in during 18-22
April 2016. The candidates, who are not satisfied with the captured response, may challenge by
filling online application form and paying a sum of Rs.1000/- per question The challenge of answer
keys will also be accepted online only through the link available on the website www.jeemain.nic.in
up to 5.00 PM on 22/04/2016 on payment of Rs.1000/- per question. The fee can be paid by
credit/debit card or e-challan. The fee once paid is non-refundable. The JAB’s/CBSE’s decision on
the challenges shall be final and no further communication will be entertained.

VII. All participating institutes that do not use the centralised Seat Allocation Process will prepare their
own ranking based on the performance in JEE (Main)-2016 and other criteria as decided by them.

Number of Attempts

The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).

CANDIDATES SEEKING ADMISSION TO THE INSTITUTIONS IN THE STATES OF GUJARAT MADHYA PRADESH
NAGALAND AND ODISHA, WHICH WERE EARLIER ADMITTING BASED ON THEIR STATE LEVEL EXAMINATION, ARE
ALSO ADVISED TO VERIFY THEIR ELIGIBILITY AS PER CRITERIA LAID DOWN BY THESE STATE GOVERMENTS.

No. of Attempts and Age limit for the states of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha:
Since the states of Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system from 2014. The
age limit, for admission to institutions in these states which were earlier admitting candidates based on their
state level examinations, will be as per their past practice only. The number of attempts in such cases will
also remain same as per their past practice. This will however be obviously not applicable for admission to
IITs/NITs/IIITs/CFTIs.

JEE Mains 2016: Provisions for Persons with Disabilities

· The candidates with disability should fill in the type and percentages of disability correctly in the online
application form for JEE (Main) 2016.

· Only the candidates, who have 40% or more disability, will be provided Scribe/ Reader on the request of
the candidate.

· The candidate will have the discretion of opting his/her own scribe/reader or may submit the request to
the centre superintendent for the same.

· The centre superintendent will identify the scribe/ reader. In case a request is received from the
candidate, he/she would be allowed to meet the scribe a day before the examination to verify the
suitability of the scribe.

· One hour compensatory (extra) time will also be allowed to the candidates with 40% or more disability
irrespective of the fact that the candidate(s) is/are availing the facility of scribe/reader.

JEE Mains: PERCENTILE AND NORMALIZATION OF MARKS OF CLASS 12TH

1. The percentage of marks and percentile are totally different entities hence the candidates should not confuse with both the above terms.
2. Percentage is a number out of 100.
3. Percentile Score of a candidate in a Board or JEE (Main) will reflect how many Candidates have
scored below that candidate in his/her Board or JEE (Main) Examination.

A Percentile score is the value below which a certain percent of observations fall. For example, the
40th Percentile is the value or score below which 40 Percent of the observations may be found.

The Percentile of a Candidate will be calculated as
100 X Number of candidates in the ‘group’ with aggregate marks less than the candidate
Total number of the candidates in the ’group’
Example: Suppose in a particular Board:
No of Candidates Registered =13918 and
No of Candidates Appeared = 13711
a. A Candidate who has scored 50% marks in the Board and 2218 candidates have scored below
him; his Percentile score will be calculated as follows
Percentile score for 50% marks in the Board = 2218 x 100/13711 = 16.18
b. A Candidate who has scored 60% marks in the Board and 6865 candidates have scored below
him; his Percentile score will be calculated as follows
Percentile score for 60% marks in the Board = 6865 x 100 /13711 = 50.07

c. A Candidate who has scored 90% marks in the Board and 13615 candidates have scored below
him; his Percentile score will be calculated as follows
Percentile score for 90% marks in the Board =13615 x 100/13711 = 99.30

With these examples, it is clear that percentage of marks obtained by a candidate (50%, 60% or
90%) is different from the percentile score (16.18, 50.07 or 99.30).
4. The normalized Qualifying examination marks will be based on the position of the candidate in the
Board (i.e. his/her percentile score). The percentile score a candidate gets in his/her board will
mainly contribute to his/her normalized marks.
5. The candidates, willing to appear in the improvement examination to improve the qualifying
examination marks, will have to appear in all the five subjects for improvement.
6. For JEE (Advanced) 2016: Please visit JEE (Advanced) website jeeadv.iitg.ac.in for JEE (Advanced)
2016 criteria.
7. The weightage of normalized qualifying examination marks is only for deciding ranking of JEE (Main)
which will be used for admission to all Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs)/ NITs/IIITs but
excluding IITs.
8. The five subjects will be taken into account for calculation of percentile and normalization of
qualifying examination marks for paper 1(B.E./B. Tech.) and paper 2 (B. Arch./B. Planning)of JEE
(Main) which are:
1- Language,
2- Physics,
3- Mathematics,
4- Any one of (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject),
5- Any other subject.
Note: If a candidate has appeared in six subjects in the qualifying examination, the subject (fifth
or sixth) with better marks will be considered.
