Yesterday afternoon proved crucial for the Yankees as they managed to save a losing game by getting two runs on the board in the eighth inning to claw back to 5-5. Jorge Posada then had a walk off single in the twelve to help the Yankees win two of the first four against the Canadian club. Both Halliday and Wang did not do too bad but it turned out that it was a fight between the bullpens. With that win and the Red Sox's loss on Saturday, the Yankees closed to within one game of the Division east leaders and will be gunning for yet another win today. The bombers are 9-1 in their last 10games and that could only bode good signs for them especially with the All Star break coming up.

Richmond was initially expected to start for Toronto today but he finally admitted to his manager that he was carrying a sore injury. The inexperienced Cecil will start in this game and Cecil has surrendered 18 hits over his past 10 2/3 innings for a .400 opponents' batting average.He was bombed for eight runs in six innings earlier in the year at Boston and with fly balls going out of the ball park freely, it wont be easy for him today. Chamberlain has been mediocre at best for the Yankees but what I do not like about him is that he only lasts five innings each time out but I think the main difference in this game will be that the Yankees hitters are hitting much better compared to the Toronto batters.

Chicago Cubs vs Milwaukee Brewers

Last time I went for Chicago Cubs, it was also Lily who started the game but he had to endure a rough outing. Tonight again, Lily will be on the mound after a season worst of two successive losses. Since he returned from injury, he has been very inconsistent but one thing though, is that he pitches very well at Wrigleys ball park. He is 4-1 this year at home and will be looking to out duel his opponent today, Mike Burns. Generally, Cubs have had a very disappointing season up to date unlike in 2008 whereby they cruised through the entire season. Surprisingly though, the team that leads their division is the team that they are facing in this series.

Cubs are 23-14 at home and whenever they are at home, they seem to grind out wins. Walk off wins are just all too common at Wrigleys ball park and I really think that they will avenge their loss last night. For the Brewers, they will have to depend on Burns, who have only started in three games this season. His game to innings ratio is a factor for the Brewers and hence, I will back the Cubs to even up the series here by winning this one.

Mettalurg vs Volgar Gazprom

This game is pretty much a game of two very poor teams in the Russian division1. The home side are dead last in the Russian division 1 with only 15 points from 17games. Their record of 4-3-10 is the worst in the league and moreover, they are six games without a win already. The only positive thing for them is that if they collect all three points today, they can climb out of the bottom 3. The Russian division 1 is a very close league with teams after sixth place merely separated by points only.

As for Volgar, they sit in sixteen place and are also precariously near the drop zone but the odd win here and there have been sufficient for them to avoid going further down. Volgar gained four points from their last two games which is certainly what they had hoped for and they will be more than happy with recent improvements. Metallurg will hope to attack Volgar early in the game as the visitors have already lost 5 of their 8 away matches. With both teams defensively unsound, go for the over bet here as it is only a rarity that goals do happen in this league.

Washington Nationals vs Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves have been very good since their double header series against the Red Sox and the Yankees. They have shown the rest of the majors why they cannot be written off as a bad team with some tidy pitching from their starters and even the bullpen staff are doing their work. Currently, the Braves are on a five match unbeaten streak and against the Washington Nationals, they will hope to pile more misery on them before the All star break. It seems like the Braves batters are becoming more patient in their hitting and results are paying off for them.

Washington have dropped eight of their last ten matches and nothing has changed much from a team who is struggling in all fronts. No improvement in their form have seen them occupying the last place among all divisions. Yesterday though, the Nationals suffered a tough 9-8 loss to the Braves and for today, they will face one of the Braves better pitchers, Hanson. Hanson is 4-0 in 2009 and more importantly, has not give up a single run in his last seventeen and a third innings. Expect the Braves to continue with their momentum and pick up a win here.

San Francisco Giants vs Houston Astros

The Giants were terrific last night, brushing aside the Astros 13-0 in emphatic fashion. Nobody expected that result as the Astros had previously won five in succession and given the fact that Sadowski was on the mound in his early career, a rout was totally not though of. Today though, the Giants are in a commanding position especially with Tim Lincecum behind the mound. The right hander ace two hit the Cardinals the last time out. Tim is 8-2 in 2009 with a very low 2.37 era.

As for the Astros, they know they will face a tough test yet again at AT and T Park which has seen its record improved to 25-12 after yesterdays victory there. Ortiz will represent the Houston Astros in this game, he has a 3-3 record and although he had decent starts recently, innings will be a factor. If the Astros do go behind early, the Astros manager will have to contemplate using pinch hitters and in this case, the Astros bullpen must carry the remaining responsibility. LA Angels vs Baltimore Orioles

The Angels continue their series against the Orioles as the latter claimed an unexpected victory at LA last night. Berken do not have any speciality to strike out pitchers and when he runs into jams, he fails to get out of trouble. Go for the Angels to revenge for their loss last night.

Cerezo Osaka vs Vegalta Sendai

Cerezo Osaka have continued to impress me week in week out such that you will always look out for their fixtures in each game day. Their free goal scoring adventure continues to outdo the rest of the league and I can darely say that no defence in the J2 can cope with their attacking threat. In the attacking department, they are a class above the rest and another 3 goal showing last week helped them to three more points in the league. The down side for them is that their defence have not find a solution for their game but it seems that their strikers have covered them.

Vegalta Sendai are third in the league with some stellar showings but the impression that they give me is that they are not that consistent of a team to last the whole season. Moreover, they have faield to keep clean sheets in their last five matches in the league and when Cerezo Osaka ups the tempo, they will not have any solution to that. This game pits the top home side against the ebst away side. Go for the goals section yet again as it will be another goal fest.

Hiroshima have done pretty well this season since their promotion from the second tier last year. Among the three promoted teams to the top tier, Hiroshima is rated the best and their league position does not lie. Hiroshima are seventh at the moment and a win today will propel them to number five. I do believe that Hiroshima's manager will be generally statisfied with his team's performance but given their good showing in the first half of the year. it seems that they can push on further. I expect a decent game tonight as both sides are open teams going forward.

Jubilo Iwata have crept out of the bottom before the Summer break with some very good showings but after the resumation of the J league, they have lost twice in two. Last time out, Iwata lost unexpectedly to second from bottom side Kashiwa Reysol 2-3 at home. The general feeling about Iwata is that they do tend to struggle away from home and have a record 1-2-4. Hiroshima look the more certain to be the winner in this game, if there is any, because they have dispatched teams within their capability this season. Three wins from their previous three home games have been crucial in their aid but nonetheless, I can never be comfortable with Hiroshima's lacklustre defence. Over should be the better option.

I expect the home team though to come out on tops after 90mins and maybe the away team might just nick a goal. The home odds are just too low at 1.30+ and it is smarter to go on the goals bet.

Huddersfield v Wakefield

Really important game in the battle for play off places and one which i expect to be very close. With Rovers losing in France the Giants would sneak into 3rd position with the win. A win for Wakefield and that would see them join the Giants on 22 points.

Its fair to say these are 2 sides most would probably not have expected to be doing so well but both managers, Brown in particular,deserve great credit.

The Giants are one of the best defensive sides in super league and that line speed is second to none. Most of their best performances have come on the road though. Im not totally sure why that is but there has been a number of times this season when punters and the bookies have expected them to easily deal with the so called smaller clubs at the Galpharm but its been a real struggle.

Maybe their style is suited to going away, maybe its the lack of support from the crowd. Whatever it is, Salford controlled the game here winning by 20, Castleford beat them the other week and should have won in the cup game too. The big 2 Saints and Leeds were easy winners here and Hull also took the points. 5 defeats at home for the Giants this season.

Wakefield have won 3 of the last 4. Maybe not wins over top sides but 6 points and some decent form and momentum going into this one. Looking at their squad its almost back to full strength and for once they do look pretty well off for forwards. Obviously thats going to be important as the Giants have a lot of power in their forward line and Wakey have to match that.

This game, in recent years, has been very tight with only 1 score between the sides.

Yes, only a few weeks back the Giants hammered Wakefield by 50 points on their manner. But the Wildcats had lost a number of their best players for that game and had some off field problems in the build up to that game. Brough, Drew and Ferguson will all be playing this time, different side altogether.

Oddly enough, i actually think that hammering will be to the Wildcats advantage and that we will see them fired up for revenge. Players can forget losing, no one forgets losing by half a century and i am sure its been the talk on the training field all week.

I expect a big match from Brad Drew, This will be the 1st time he faces his old side and ofcourse he was a very popular player with Giants fans. He will be desperate to show them what they are missing. All the Wakefield forwards will have to perform, for them to win this game but i believe they will and Moore should make the most carries.

I think this game will be so tight that possibly only a drop goal seperates the sides at time up.

The number of times that the Blue Jays have come up short this season have disappointed me already especially when I had high expectations on them in certain games. When they are cold, the Blue Jays are a woeful team, similarly to the game against the Cardinals when I had tipped them to win; eventually being thrashed by the Cardinals 10-0. The Blue Jays will stand a better chance when Halliday takes the mound tomorrow against Wang but for today's game, I do not think they will live up to expectations again. The Blue Jays are in a division whereby the other three top teams are just a class above the rest of the majors.

Toronto are 17-20 on the road and with the recent improvement of the Yankees offence, I will be going with the home team tonight. Burnett has pitched excellently of late as he awaits his suspension ruling in weeks to come. He limited the Mets to one earned run over strong innings last time out and I just think he will out duel the opposition pitcher, Tallet who has a 5-5 record.

Consadale Sapporo vs Mito Hollyhock

Consadale Sapporo finds themselves in a very awkward position right now as they are planted to the middle of the j2 and it does seem that they will spend at least one more season in the same league. After a abysmal start, Sapporo have pulled themselves up from the relegation zone and although they have not collected as many wins as they want, they can also say that they have steadied the ship.In the last ten games, Sapporo's record of 2-6-2 is rather disappointing though given the fact that they could have climbed further up the standings.

As for Mito Hollyhock, their defensive woes continued against Cerezo Osaka last week; conceding 3 goals in 90mins. Under the last ten games column, Mito has a 3-3-4 record and it is quite inconsistent for their liking. In 24 games only, Mito has conceded forty goals in all their matches and I really do think that given that both teams are not that menacing at the moment, a draw seems a result. Anyway, Sapporo is the draw specialist in the division and with four draws in their last five home games, a draw seems to be on the cards.

The Astros have slowly crawled their way back into the mix after winning six of their last eight games to set up an intriguing series with the Giants who shared a series split at St Louis recently.The Giants won the first two games at the Cardinals but a fightback by their opponents saw them both win two games a piece. Even not gaining any games on the series at St Louis, the Giants are still in a decent position in the division and at the moment, it still looks rosy for them.

The astros are a very hard team to guess because they really do disappoint you at times such as the Blue Jays, Indians, Athletics etc. When they are bad, they really are bad. Early indications in the game will be more than enough for a neutral party to call the outcome of the game. Sadowski got off a winning start for the Giants and the young rookie certainly lived up to his hype by pitching six solid shut out innings against Milwaukee. As for the Astros, Paulino 2-4 will take the mound, coming off a very impressive outing against Detroit, whereby he allowed only one earned run over seven complete innings to earn his first win in weeks. Go for the Giants here as I really do anticipate the Astros to run into early trouble.

It will be a close game pitting two very young sides against each other but the Giants should just nick it by a couple of runs.

The Japanese league is one of the toughest league to predict the results and if one is very inexperienced in this area, they should try to avoid the complications from their games. Leeds can move to within 2 points of Saints with the win and i believe they can do it by more than a couple of scores.

We seen a super performance by the Rhinos on their last away trip in London as Quins were hammered. Maybe they were not at their best last week against Bradford.It was a very close game. But it is a derby game, and the Bulls were always going to be right up for that. 3 wins in a row means Leeds have a bit of momentum and the pitches are perfect this time of year for their free flowing rugby.

Hull are a terrible run, 1 win from the last 6, and they were lucky to get that in a very close match with newly promoted Salford. Saints won here easily and Leeds hammered them when the sides met just over a month ago at Headingly.

On paper, its not a bad looking squad Hull have and to be fair a decent start to the season means the black and whites are very much in the running for the play offs. But its a side on the slide, still missing players through injury. Only 2 trys scored last week at Warrington, thats the 3rd time in 4 games Hull have only managed 2 trys or less. Theres a real lack of confidence with ball and hand and to be honest a lack of speed.

12 points is a big start i admit. But although it should be a tight start to the game i think Leeds will cover it in the second half. I like the fact Saints lost on Friday as this will have given the Leeds boys a huge lift knowing that gap could be down to just 2 points.

Hulls ex Leeds forward Jamie Thackrey launched an amazing attack on Brian McLennan this week. The Rhinos manager decided not to bite and instead leave his players do the talking on the park on Saturday.

Keith Senior should have a big game for Leeds. He plays his 500th game for the Rhinos and should line up against the Horne brothers. Hull have had big problems all year defending that right hand edge and there is no one better at busting the line or adding the finishing touches to a flowing move than the Rhinos centre. Im also expecting a big game from Scot Donald. Hes not quite been at his best since his return from injury but thats normal after a while out. I think this is the kind of game where we will see him back on top form as Hull are not the quickest side in super league.

Catalans Dragons v Hull KR

Perfect conditions for a high scoring game and 2 sides who have played some tough games recently. I expect this one to really open up in the 2nd half.

Catalans got a vital win at Cas last week which means theres every chance of them still getting to those play offs. Its been an odd season with some shocking performances but a bit like Wigan, the French side are in good form at the right time and will fancy their chances against anyone.

In recent weeks, at home, we have seen the Dragons score 5 trys against super leagues top 2 sides and best defences. They beat Leeds, the Dragons deserved to beat Saints too.

Not the best side in defence though Catalans, id guess theres been more trys scored out wide against them than other super league side. There is also the discipline problem, crazy high shots which result in the opposition starting sets deep inside the Dragons half.

Hull kr are going through a bit of sticky patch at the moment losing 3 of the last 4. Theres no need for Morgan to panic, his side still sit 3rd which is an excellent return given how new the Rovers are to super league. But a win is a badly needed to stop the slide.

They look pretty poor in defence to me. Which is odd as a month ago it was almost stone wall. Any time the opposition get near the red zone they are coming up with trys. Both Quins, who scored 40 points, and Wigan who hit 36, simply worked the ball to either edge and walked in for the score. They are also hanging back at the play the ball, not a good idea with the power Catalans have in their side.

Despite their problems the Rovers have managed 68 points in the last 2 games and played some very nice football. Dobson is a class act and his kicking game will be important. Id expect Peter Fox to have a big game, hes on fine trying scoring form at the moment.

I think this one will really open in the last 30 mins or so as both sets of forwards tire in the heat. It is a fixture which has a history of being quite high scoring and Rovers did run out 44-10 winners back in April. Catalans will be hoping for revenge.

Bosc, Mogg, Cooke and Dobson, should all find space and get plenty of ball to make this one an open and high scoring affair.

After a series of sluggish outing, CC Sabathia have responded well in his last two starts to combined with a total of only six hits and two earned runs allowed to lower his era even further. Last time out against the Mets, he was in cruise control of the game, striking out eight batters in seven solid innings. As for the Seattle Mariners, they have found playing at the new Yankee stadium something very difficult as their pitcher have continued giving up homers to some of their big players over the first two games of the series. Vargas starts for the Mariners here and he owns a 3-3 record and even in his last start, he gave up way too many long balls and that can really hurt in a hitters park today.

In recent weeks, vargas have struggled against the hard hitting Dodgers team and also against the in form Rockies team. At best, he is just a mediocre pitcher who lasts a standard five inning and I really do fear that the Mariners will get swept by the streaking Yankees who have won seven on the trot. Alex Rodriguez too have responded well after being dropped from the line-up for two days in Florida and the form he is going through now, all Yankees fans would want him to play more. Go for the Yankees to win this one sided battle.

Two teams are engaged in friendly matches as they prepare for their domestic league seasons to start off in a couple of months. This match will be played in Koge as they continue their tune up to the competitive matches in future. Both teams should know each other very well as Koge and Nords are teams from Denmark and they have played against each other before too. I would like to point out another fact that teams in Denmark are weak defensively over attacks and that is why it is common to witness high scoring games involving them. NY Yankees vs Seattle Mariners

The Yankees have won six straight matches going into tonight's game and they will be looking confident when Andy Petite returns to the mound after the horrific outing at Atlanta five days ago. The right hander pitcher followed up by a decent start to allow a total of seven hits and three earned runs over three innings which was one of his worst performance of the season. However, I do believe that he will recover and post yet another quality and moreover his era is respectable. In Petite's last two losses, he has rebounded with solid wins and it could be a case again today.

The Mariners are also pretty good right now but I do not think they will be good enough to last the whole nine innings especially with the shaky bull pen that they have. The Mariners do tend to concede late devastating runs and even if the Yankees fall behind in the game, the number of times they have overturned deficits in key situations in 2009 is more than any other team. Petite will just have to prevent Ichiro Suzuki from reaching the bases but even if he does not, Petite has a very high success rate of pick off this year and I do not think the Seattle club will outscore the home team in tonight's second game of the series.

Before that he was the manager of Thespa Kusatsu. A former Japanese international, Tezuka is an experienced figure in japanaese football.
The only big loss for Roasso Kumamoto in the transfermarket this year is forward Takahashi ,who have moved to Avispa. A revelation last season with all his goals, he was the by far best player for Roasso. Uruno, a fringe-player from Kofu, is the only replacement brought in,so they look weaker than before up front. In midfield veterans Fujita and Ishii makes nice additions, and will without a doubt be important members of the team this year.For me odds for Okayama is too high here and home win in this match is very probable.
