Back in the Shop

I feels good to be back in the shop making things again! I shipped out some CCII’s last week and have a couple more going out tomorrow, thanks for your patience. My hand still has a ways to go before I’ll be able to play guitar or carve a neck. In the mean time I’ve been doing some pick guard inlay. Hit me up if you want your name or a design hand inlayed to dress your guitar up. I just finished this one for my friend Frank Tutwiler.

Josh recently outfitted his L7 with one of my archtop pickups. Here it is running through some pedals into a very cool Gibson BR-9. I love this arrangement. If anyone has a BR-9 they want to sell send me an email.

Hand Surgery Update

After talking about it for years I finally had Dupuytren’s surgery on my left hand Dec 16th. It’s been about four weeks. The pins in my pinky will come out in 2 weeks and then I can start physical therapy. The doctor was pleased the surgery results and thinks I’ll be playing guitar in no time. I’m jonesing to get back to work! My website store will remain open while my hand recovers. So if you’re looking to order a pickup or vibrato and you’re a hurry shoot me an email first to find out how long it’ll take. Pickups and aluminum parts are about 8 or so weeks out as of now.

Snakeheads

I have a few of these going at the moment in different configurations. This one is heading to Thunder Road Guitars in Portland. 7 lbs 11 ozs, chunky ‘V’ one piece maple neck, SV polepiece pickup in the neck position and a Curtis Novak bridge pickup. Wired with 2 volumes and a tone control. Check it out if you’re up that way.

Slipped Disc

Matt Codina and I got together last week and recorded Roy Lanham’s version of Slipped Disc. The twin line on the second B section is a bitch to play without a pinky, lol.

Gear; Matt is using his Roadmaster Deluxe and I’m using Smokey’s Special Deluxe straight into a ’56 Vibrolux and a Custom Shop ’57 tweed Deluxe. I used one mic into garage band. Matt played the rhythm track with my ’42 Epiphone Triumph. It came out pretty good I think.

I posted this demo on Youtube a few days ago. I got a handful of comments about the riff I play over the D7 the first time around and again at the end. I got it from something I heard Roy Lanham do. It makes a great exercise for the right and left hands. Here it is in both directions for those you interested.
