I had no idea what a great artist Greg Weaver was. His Works depicting Cows were awesome. Mrs C has had me driving out through Topton every weekend, because there is an expectant cow sequestered at one end of a barn, and she wants to get a picture of the calve as soon as it is born. Greg Weaver's cows made me think of that sad, soon to be a mama Cow, who looks so sad and uncomfortable with her expansive girth. Weaver's work captures something that you see in the face of the mama co, that doesn't readily transfer from real life to canvas, but he did it.

I was fortunate to speak with a few other bloggers, who had their own works on display, adding to the chemistry of the experience. There were photographs, paper mache', sculptures, hell the exhibit ran the gamut of different experiences. What a great thing to have in the Queen City. Because even if they win, they need Tampa Bay to lose to the Raiders, and the Bears to lose to the Packers.

Losing to Dallas is the only way that we can get Jeff Lurie to rationalize firing Andy Reid. It's the only way this franchise moves forward. How many years of mediocrity do you want to endure? The Eagles need new leadership. It's a damn shame that an outstanding young defense is not complimented by a consistent offense.
The fullback is a converted Defensive Lineman. The Quarterback, after 10 years, wasn't sure of Overtime rules. L.J. "Palinized" to describe what is happening to Caroline Kennedy as she makes the political rounds in New York State to try and drum up support for her possible appointment to Hillary Clinton's Senate Seat.

Pundits feel that Caroline Kennedy is being cocooned much in the same way Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was by her handlers early in the Presidential campaign.
What did Caroline expect, a coronation? The American electorate, even in liberal leaning New York state aren't in the mood to just let anybody represent them in the United States Senate.
She has to show the people something.

As for being "palinized", it's an appropriate term as any. Her Handlers have circled the wagons, and I think that defeats the purpose. Let the people of New York hear what she has to say, and where she stands. If they don't like it, so be it. That's the way it is supposed to work. Pretty smooth, following the old delivery truck around, then swooping in after it drives away.

That's where some people think Electro shock therapy should be authorized. What would Jesus Do?

What would Jesus write on his blog? Would Jesus judge others as harshly as some bloggers do? I ask myself that sometimes when I'm writing posts. Sometimes I shrug it off, and sometimes I bury the post. It depends on what I see when I look at my motivations.

What makes this the most wonderful, yet sometimes most painful time of the year, is that we take the time to be introspective and assess what we have accomplished in the year about to end. The Good makes it wonderful, realizing the bad, not so much. The last ten days are like a final exam for the year, and we grade ourselves. I give myself a C+/B-. I took many steps forward in personal growth, but at the cost of many mistakes.

So how do you think you did?

This Years Political Pariah

Time Magazine has their person of the Year. Even though I have a younger half brother and sister, I was the youngest of all the kids they formally adopted. I called Jim and Sally Mom and Dad, because that is what they were to me, and several hundred other Children in the Columbus Ohio area between 1947 and 1985.

Sally Casey kept a list of all the kids she had through our house in Foster care, she kept it in an old family bible, along with pictures of most of the kids.
I could go on for hours writing about all the things she did for children in our neighborhood, but this being Christmas, I want to write about what Christmas was to her.
Christmas was making sure that every child that came to our house got a gift for Christmas.
She had a stash of gifts under the bed in the master bedroom, blue wrapping for a boy, green for a girl. On Christmas morning, after church, she made sure everybody staying in our house was covered. We took whatever was left over to St. Vincent's orphanage on Columbus' East Side, for their kids. She always seemed to have enough for everybody, and then some.
My Dad would put on a Santa suit, and pass them out. Jim Casey was barely 5'7" tall, and 140 pounds, but he would put on the Santa suit and give those kids their gifts.
I used to think my Mom was an honorary Nun, the friendships she had with all of them, who reminded me all the time how lucky I was to have her as a Mom (Of Course, she never took a belt to the nuns backsides like she did mine, so they had a different perspective.)

So Sally Casey would have been 92 today, and every time I hear that song with that verse bout kids from "2 to 92" I will think of her, and her Christmas attitude. I don't agree with him, but I like and respect him. Personally, I attend an Episcopal Church with a woman Priest, that is open to all, regardless of sexual orientation.
Now why do I think Rick Warren is a good choice? Because it is another example of our newly elected President practicing inclusion. Barack Obama understands that he is President of all Americans, including those whose philosophies are different than his.

Can you imagine the uproar if President elect Barack Obama had asked the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, or even Jesse Jackson? What if he had asked an openly gay member of the clergy?
Barack Obama understands the futility of trying to make everyone happy, so he went with a choice that mirrored his philosophy. A philosophy of respecting those we disagree with, and including them in the conversation.

This is a stark contrast to the early years of the Bush Presidency, where Republicans excluded Democrats from policy whenever they could. "Our way or the Highway", could easily have been their operating slogan.

Pastor Warren is a little too narrow minded in his interpretation of Christian principles for my taste, but he has a track record of open mindedness, and inclusion that rivals Barack Obama.
How many Evangelical Ministers would have welcomed Barack Obama to their church with open arms for a sit down? Yet Warren did that, and Barack Obama accepted, feeling comfortable that he would get a fair shake.

That says volumes about Pastor Warren's heart. He may be a man of strong conviction, but he is not one who believes he has a right to condemn others. He does not approve the rights of Gays to marry (BTW, I Do) but he isn't out calling for them to be exterminated either, like certain other more extreme religious sects do. In some eyes, that's not saying a lot, but we have to put things in perspective.

One of my biggest problems with those decrying the selection of Pastor Warren to give the invocation is their own bias. How do you think the rest of America would feel if an openly Gay Minister had been Chosen? A large chunk of the population would have felt insulted.
A new President, facing monumental problems of historic proportions, doesn't need to alienate a large part of the population. I think those protesting the selection of Pastor Warren are being as narrow minded, if not more, than they accuse Pastor Warren of being.

Rick Warren is as much an Everyman to the Christian Right as Barack Obama is an Everyman to the Democratic Progressive movement. That they will be joined together in a moment of prayer on Inauguration day in Washington D.C. bodes well for our nation. We should all join them in prayer, regardless of our personal beliefs. Our Country needs it.

Holiday Break!

Sunday Night I wrote quite a few opinionated posts. A test to see if I can resist personally responding to the vicious hate directed at me, with equal hate.

Here is my answer:

I wish all of them, even those who would mock my religious faith, a very Merry Christmas.

I believe that God Calls us to do things, not only great things, but little things. Little things like tossing your spare change into the Salvation Army Kettle, Buying a toy for the Marines Toy drive, or giving a tree to a family in need.
God even calls us to do these things knowing our sins, sometimes calling us as we commit them, giving us an opportunity to atone. All of us are sinners, but God calls upon the saint that exists in each of us. It is there, whether we hear that call or not, and sometimes all of us, myself included, choose not to hear it. I am just as much a sinner as anyone else. I have no pretensions of sainthood.

We are only victims if we choose to be, and I choose not to be.

I have much to be thankful for this year, because I have regained my health, Physically, emotionally, and spiritually. By the way, for those who are confused, I did not have my stomach stapled, it was a gastric bypass, there's a big difference and I thank God for the skill he imbued the surgeon with.
Spiritually, I came to realize the negative path I was taking in blogging, there's still some growth to be had, but I veered away from the focus of using blogging to injure those I disagree with. It's a fine line, but I don't wish to be caught up in a meaningless competition of who can shovel the most dirt on their blog.
Opinion is one thing, taking and exhibiting joy in disparaging others is another. The latter is far more prevalent than it should be. I use parody to point out the absurdity of it all. That's my mechanism, and that's the way it is. Agree or disagree, fine, but I would tell critics to look in the mirror before they start squawking.

God didn't show me the path to wellness so I could hurt people. God gave me this path to allow me to be a better person. Yes, I still lampoon public figures that I see as hypocrites, get over it. It's my choice, and I'm willing to answer for it, and I'm sure I will, but to a much higher authority than those who would judge me in life.

I'm not perfect. I don't pretend to be. And should some choose to mock me further, so be it, because their words of disdain will say volumes more about themselves than it will about me.

It is Christmas Time, and there are so many more important things to do besides sit at a computer all hours of the night thinking up ways to "get back" at people we think have offended us. I'd rather focus on the meaningful things I can do tomorrow out in the light of day, for those that God might be calling me to aid. Damn, my cell phone is ringing! I better answer that!

Goodnight, and God Bless!

It's the Apocalypse! Is this what they meant in describing that "Absence makes the heart grow fonder?" Ol' Mary Jane is one scaring looking lady. That's one woman who didn't need makeup on Halloween, if you know what I mean, and I think you do. But on to our song!

How about "Hell's Bell's?

In a new twist, Church Lady is filing an appeal, claiming that her defense counsel was incompetent and ineffective!

Lets see, her Dad disappeared a few years back, and she's been collecting his Social Security.
No body, no Crime, right?

But The AUTHORITIES found the murder weapon for the crime she has been convicted of in a lake near her home. Plus they had a wee bit of physical evidence that she did it. Jury found her Guilty. She's 60 + years old, and judge sentenced her to life without parole. I just hope she doesn't take a shine to her Pastor in prison!

So "Hell's Bells" it is! Go Church Lady! Nice Wig! But don't try smuggling any guns into prison under it! I had other possibilities for this week's song, but
"Mistress for Christmas" and "She's got the Jack" aren't quite appropriate. Which gets me to wondering....

Where in the Hell does this guy find these women? Don't they see the news? Or is there some dating website for suspected murderers and the people who would like to date them?

I've got several suggestions for a name. How about "Guilty of Love" or "Matchmaker for the Misunderstood"? Oh wait how about this one :

"Til Death do you Part Matchmakers!" You will find love, and end up in heaven, we guarantee it, or your money back!

And if that isn't bad enough, following the reality show trend, where couples work out their issues while competing, can you not see some guy over at a major network (I'm betting Fox or ABC, myself) doing a bachelor or bachelorette show from a state prison?

You know it's got to be coming. You named your son Adolf Hitler?

I was willing to cut these folks some slack, until I saw them on every one of the local television stations. All perceptions aside, let us discuss, "what's in a name?"

My first name is Christopher. When I was a wee lad, I was counseled by my Father not to fight, or I would feel his belt on my backside. But you can only take "Chrissy the Sissy!" so many times, before you bloody someones face. Sister Petra, the Principal at St. Thomas the Apostle Elementary (AKA our Lady of Corporal Punishment) used her board freely on my backside, but I didn't care, and I didn't even cry. When my dad asked me why, I told him what happened, and braced for it. The whipping wasn't as bad as I thought, and when I thought about it later in life, I realized his heart wasn't in it.

My last name is Casey. I loved playing Baseball as a kid, but with a last name of "Casey" I don't think I ever played an organized game without some smart ass saying something derogatory, referencing "Casey at the bat."
I learned to deal with it. It was really inconsequential.

But there's a big difference between my life experience and the damnation that an innocent little three year old boy is going to have to deal with in his life because of the ignorance exhibited by his parents. Adolf Hitler is one of the most infamous names in History, and these two wacky parents liked the name, and gave it to their son, so he could be different? What happens when he hits puberty, they going to have him wear the namesake mustache?
These dingbat parents are already putting him in the spotlight by making a ruckus over his Birthday Cake. His middle name, "Hitler" doesn't need to be on his Birthday Cake. I can think of two notable Americans named Adolf (or Adolph), late Kentucky Basketball Coach and legend Adolph Rupp, and Colorado Beer brewer Adolph Coors.

These two dingbats are stigmatizing their child to further their own twisted agenda, and that's a damn shame, that the child and his two siblings will be raised in this environment. What kind of people would do this to their own kids? Bad parenting. Period.
