Forbes.com contributor Louis Bedigian makes the case that Google is a more likely purchaser of Twitter than Apple, should Twitter ever come up for sale.

With recent high dollar acquisitions of Instagram by Facebook and OMGPOP by Zynga, more acquisitions seem in the cards. Bedigian explores analysts’ opinions of Apple purchasing Twitter, but then offers an opinion on why that is not likely:

Apple prefers to acquire smaller, lesser-known entities, such as the team behind Final Cut. When is the last time Apple spent $10 billion on an acquisition? When is the last time the firm spent $5 billion on, well, anything? Spending isn’t the Apple way unless it is certain to add to the company’s bottom line, hence the reason why Apple spends so much on advertising.

Google, on the other hand, is more than happy to spend $10+ billion on an acquisition. In fact, that’s just what it did with Motorola (NYSE: MMI), a company that many argue is a dying beast that offered Google nothing but a series of patents. (Patents that, ironically, may allow Google to extract revenue from Microsoft.)

Bedigian points out that Google makes its money not from direct consumer sales like Apple, but from analytics, making Twitter a much more lucrative purchase, should Twitter ever want to sell.

In a BGR article, Zach Epstein highlights the success of the launch of the iPhone 4S, then the biggest device launch to date for Apple.

The iPhone 4S was a refresh of the previous iPhone 4, adding more memory options, the ability to connect to HSPA+ (“4G”) Networks, more memory, and an improved processor.

Rumors abound about the iPhone 5, suggesting a June Launch,, or the device being constructed from “Liquid Metal.”

“The iPhone 5 launch is likely to be one of the most important smartphone product cycles we’ve seen to date,” [Goldman Sachs analyst Bill] Shope wrote in a note to investors on Wednesday. Shope raised his price target on shares of Apple stock to $750 from $700, and said earlier concerns over the possibility that carriers might dial back iPhone subsidies are off base.

In a blog post, Wil Shipley, creator of Delicious Library, lays out a case for why the Apple Mac store needs to switch to a paid upgrade model.

In a blog post, Wil Shipley, creator of Delicious Library, lays out a case for why the Apple Mac Store needs to switch to a paid upgrade model. Shipley proposes a solution to Apple:

The Mac App Store should allow developers to submit, with our applications, a list of our other applications from which the user can upgrade, along with a separate price we’d charge people who already own those applications.

So, for instance, as a developer I could say to the Mac App Store, “When someone buys ‘Delicious Library ∞’ who has bought ‘Delicious Library 2,’ it should cost them them $15. Leave our version ‘2’ page up but don’t allow any new sales of it, and mark it as obsolete.” (In this way existing version “2” customers can still be updated (for free) with bug fixes even if they don’t upgrade to “∞.”)
