It has been awhile since we released a flower set from Torico, so this month, we have a GORGEOUS one from her! I can only imagine the elegant cards you all will make with this gorgeous set.

Stampendous and STAEDTLER Final Blog Hop

It’s now the final week of a colorful blog collaboration with the folks at STAEDTLER, the place where fine German craftsmanship meets gorgeous artistry. You’re familiar already with tons of STAEDTLER products, their Mars Eraser is legendary, and Fimo Clay is classic. We have been huge fans of their products for years, and their Karat Aquarelle pencils are Fran’s absolute favorite colored pencil.

For today’s STAEDTLER card I used some green Soft Pastel Chalks on watercolour paper:

I don’t know what made me try it but I thought the pastels would blend with water and thankfully it worked out!!

Once all of the colours blended together I let it dry and then treated it like patterned paper.

I used two great new stamp sets called Air Scapes and Hot Air Trio.

I had the crazy idea to colour the balloons in sepia tones to keep the card monochromatic. It’s fun shading with just one colour family – it give you the freedom to think about the light and shadow. (I used a combo of Copics and pastel chalk pencils)

I decided to colour up Poppy. I love the cheeky/edgy style of the “Spice Girls,”

Isn’t this image too fun? I love her hair and the outfit… It’s all so hipster (a style I definitely do NOT embody) and I think she looks super cute paired with these Crate Paper patterns..

I did a little bit of fancy shading with my chalk pencil to make her look a little 3D. Gosh, I love doing that! LOL..

Melyssa is back from a short break with a new set for us, and we were so excited about it, we had to show it off day one of our peeks!! She is getting us ready for summer with her signature style, and I’m just not sure if it can get ANY cuter than this!! With three adorable character images, and lots of accessories and sentiments, she will have you using this set for everything from party decorations to greeting cards!

As always, Melyssa’s images are so fun to colour! I love the open spaces that are good for either paper piecing (like I did on the shirt) or colouring with Copics.

As a fun little addition, I added some bubbles out of the top of the snorkel with some glossy accents.

Stampendous Partners with STAEDTLER!

Hi there! I have an exciting week of posts and to start off with a bang the Stampendous! team has been treated to a partnership with STAEDTLER products! There will be opportunities for you to win some huge prizes (and I hope you do!) and for you to see some cool new stamps just released by Stampendous!

I decided to pull out two gorgeous new sets called Air Scapes and Soaring Sentiments and I coloured in the balloons with STAEDTLER ergosoft aquarell watercolor pencils. (I got the 12 pack) If you are new to colouring and not sure about the whole “Copic thing” then getting your feet wet with watercolor pencils (did you catch the pun??!!) is a non-scary way to start! You just colour the area you want coloured then wet it with a water pen.

I left the colours really pale because I wanted them to match the patterned papers but you can get quite intense with them as well. I love the look of watercolour mediums though. It’s a soft and pretty effect! (You may also notice a little glitter here and there – I used Crystal Sparkly Embossing Powder.)

All this week we’ve been looking at classic TSG sets and I can’t believe that Oh Snap! is old enough to be considered “vintage”! I forgot how much I love this set!

Here’s my card. I kinda lub it.

I just taught a class tonight using these papers (Crate Paper) and they are totally awesome. I love it when something as simple as a patterned paper can inspire you!

Anyway, I coloured up this vintage camera with Copics to match the tones in the paper. I also found some wood veneer elements to add a little pizzazz!!

This is a 4x6 canvas. I had a fun time creating the background (acrylic paints, gesso, and some doodling with a white Sharpie) and then I stamped on top with Archival Ink. I then coloured in the rose with various acrylic inks!

Chalkboard Technique With Stampenous Stamps

Hi there! I'm here with a quick tutorial at the Stampendous! Blog on the ever-so-popular

“Chalkboard Technique!”

It’s inspired by the beautiful chalkboard art we now see all over the media, print, and of course Pinterest. (You have also seen me do this A LOT in the past few months!) What you may not know is that you don’t need stamps that are specifically made for the chalkboard look, and you may not know that it’s super easy!!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Supplies: black cardstock, VersaMark pad, Detail White Embossing Powder, white pigment or hybrid ink, and a stamp. Today I’m using Cling King Teapot and Cling Kettle On. (Not shown: white Sharpie)

1. Step one – stamp teapot with VersaMark and cover with embossing powder. Heat until shiny. Once the embossing powder has cooled doodle a white frame around the teapot with a white Sharpie.

2. Using your finger, smudge some white ink around the image to give the black cardstock that “chalky” look.

3. Cut out the chalkboard you’ve created.

4. Find some fabulous coordinating papers and create a card!

That was easy, right? I just LOVE this chalkboard trend and every time I play around with a new image I wonder if it would look good done with this technique – and this teapot (and sentiment) look fab!

May Studio AE Blog Hop

I had great fun playing along with this month's Technique Tuesday Studio AE stamp set called Heartfelt by Ali Edwards – so much fun I made two cards!!

I thought a bright and fun background would be the perfect accompaniment to this sweet sentiment!

The hearts were cut out with my Silhouette and I doodled around them with a white gel pen then popped the whole layer up on the kraft. Then I doodled inside the hearts with black pen. That was fun!!

For my second card, more silhouette cuts and more pink!

I thought this sentiment would look great in brown (not as stark as the black elements in the last card anyway…) and I really like how it plays off the kraft cardstock. I also added some brown shading with a pastel chalk pencil around the heart.

Deconstructed Sketch #100–Week 2

We are givinng DS100 the royal treatment with another week’s worth of cards and inspiration! I hope you can join us!!

For today’s card I HAD to make a Mother’s Day card. I kinda…. FORGOT Mother’s Day was this weekend and the flower shop at which I supply my cards has NONE.. So I got to work!

I went funky and graphic with this Mom card, right? It’s for the cool Mom in your life! I will share the rest of my Mother’s Day cards in a couple days, but I definitely had help from my Silhouette this year. I cut out a bunch of heart shapes and “mom” sentiments and got creating. The heart in the box is a Silhouette shape and the papers are My Mind’s Eye. The final touch was the “mom” sentiment (from SRM’s Express Yourself Mother’s Day) mounted on black cardstock.

Stampendous Elements

Our newest Fran•táge images for Spring 2013 are our wonderful new Elements images and you can check out the buzz on the Stampendous blog. These are terrific collages of various images on one theme. I like using them on my mixed media projects so today I’m sharing a recent art journal page where I used a few of the stamps in the background:

This journal page is in my Dyan Reaveley art journal. I’ve adhere some patterned papers down and painted on top using various acrylic paints and a stencil.

Then…. I stamped.

For a lot of mixed media artists getting the whole impression of a stamp isn’t the point – it’s all about texture. I stamped the Cling Phone Elements on the seam… Who cares?! It looks awesome!

I also used Cling Sewing Elements and only managed to get a bit of the image on there… Again, oh well! I think all of these bits and pieces come together to make a coherent piece in the end…

Other stamps used: Cling Jumbo Calla Lily and Life is Art. I also mixed some Royal Blue Glass Glitter with a little heavy gel medium and scraped it along the top right corner. It adds a nice glittery touch!

Hello From Happyville

Today the Technique Tuesday Stamp Techs are featuring Teri’s line of stamps called Happyville! They are cute sets that can mix and match because they feature the same happy font and trendy illustration style.

I made this card using stamps from Happyville – Home. The background paper (Amy Tangerine YES, PLEASE) made this scene come together really easily!! I stamped a few houses in a light grey ink, then the focal house in dark grey. Then I stamped the main house again on some white cardstock and cut it out.

Do you ever feel silly giving your 10+ layer cards that weigh a hundred pounds to a stranger that probably doesn’t even know cardmaking exists? This card is the perfect solution. No muss, no fuss.. Clean lines and a simple message!

Jumbo Peruvian Lily

Stampendous is rolling out the new release stamps and our new April Catalog is chock full of gorgeous flowers for you to use for any occasion! Birthday? – Flowers are great! Get Well? – Of course you’ll send flowers. Mom? – Yup! Flowers are her fave! Anniversary? – Of course!

Today I'm sharing a mixed media card made with a bunch of different paints featuring Jumbo Peruvian Lily. I've mentioned this before, but the jumbo stamps now come with masks, so I thought I would use it in this project.

Here's what I came up with:

I started out by painting on watercolour paper with watered-down acrylic paints. It's just a "wash" of colour and you can see the horizontal strokes from my large brush.

Once dried, I taped down the mask with washi tape.

I added white paint with a dabber and made sure I either dabbed the paint on, or dragged it from the mask ON TO the paper. This will help to prevent bleeding underneath the mask.

After a few layers of white I removed the mask.

Once the white paint was dried I then stamped onto the paper with black Archival Ink. I didn't mind that it didn't line up perfectly because I'm going to add some shading and the white will help me achieve that.

After the white was dry I painted on top of it with acrylic paints.

I also added some shading with my charcoal pencils - it's a nice effect!

Ummm…. So I designed a stamp set!

I have been waiting for this day for a long time: together with my great friend Jessica I designed a stamp set inspired by the chalkboard craze that’s happening in the design world. I had the wild idea that I would learn an illustrator program on the fly and put together some sentiments with lots of beautiful fonts and layers and… Oh my gosh! How crazy was I, but Jessica was so helpful and supportive and together we’ve released this set that I’m so very proud of.

As soon as I got the sample set in my hand I got to work and made a whole bunch of cards. The four large sentiments were my contribution to the stamp set!

Jessica had the vision to design the cute chalkboard frame and some other fun embellishments I know you’ll love!

I hope you love it as much as I do, and I already have some more sets in the works! I’ve found a new passion!!

We're Off To See The Wizard

Weeeeeee’re off to see the Wizard!!! Yes, we are! Our new Oz inspired stamps are just so much fun we couldn’t resist focusing on them first from our April 2013 catalog! Plus our very own Lisa Hindsley drew some of the most darling characters, so it gives us a chance to brag on her. AND it highlights our Digital Downloads since they’re new as well and include two sets of phrases just for our Oz images! So join us as we ease on down that Yellow Brick Road this week…

I brought this stamp to a crop because I knew I wanted to colour it and I knew I had a bunch of time to get it done – little did I know I would take 3 HOURS to colour it!! Sometimes I take things a little too far but once I start something I can’t stop…

The basic colouring of this took a long time (colouring all aspects of each image with minimum three colours) but in addition to that I added shading with my Pastel Chalk pencil to amp up the contrast. PHEW!

Sketch Guidelines:

Are you ready for Deconstructed Sketch 99? I hope you like it! Here’s the scoop on what you need to do:
1. Use the sketch up top to make a project, any kind you like using any image you like. Use the sketch to inspire your own creativity. Feel free to substitute shapes for what you have available and mount tags and circles to a card base if you’d prefer.
2. Post it somewhere on the internet (your blog, SCS, Flickr, etc). Use keyword DS99 if you post to an online gallery likeSplitcoaststampers.

April Greenhouse

April’s Greenhouse Society stamp set ships today and we are featuring another round of creations!

Today I decided to use the chalkboard technique to feature the pretty tulips. Here it is:

I had some beautiful My Mind’s Eye scraps in my bin and I thought they would look good with the black chalkboard… It’s an interesting look, that’s for sure!

( I do the chalkboard look by stamping in Versamark and embossing with white embossing powder… I then rub white ink on the paper with my fingers… pretty easy!)

Dream In Color and Ginger Blog Hop

Day two of this month's blog hop challenges with There She Goes Stamps, and we have two new sets for you to love!! Both were so fun to colour and I’m excited to show you the results!!

Our first set from Megan Suarez this month is the gorgeous new Dream in Color. We love the gorgeous style of this flower, and we think you will, too.

This big, beautiful flower can be used on cards, with mixed media, on tags!!!

Stamp set number two!! The newest addition to Megan’s Spice Girls line is the GORGEOUS new Ginger set.

Isn’t she pretty?? I paired her with some soft My Mind’s Eye papers and that gorgeous ribbon that looks a lot like denim! (The layout is this week’s TSG sketch challenge… Check it out!)
