Jacksonbelle Tuesday Challenge

It's a countdown to Christmas around here and I don't know about you, but I'm WAY behind!! So what's a good solution? MAKE MORE CARDS! Hey! Makes sense to me!

This week's Jacksonbelle challenge was to make a holiday card. Easy peasy!! I also used today's colours from SCS's color challenge to help me out with some ideas!

I loved this stamp when I first got it. It was one of my first stamp sets and still one of my fav's. I don't think I'll ever give it up... Anyway.. I used Copic markers to colour it and I did some really dramatic shading for "DRAMA". For the "Curry" colours I used a custom Y20, Y21, YR23, YR25.. For some of the deepest shades of curry I added a hint of brown (E25) and blended it out with the curry colours..

I used Basic Grey patterned papers and a button with some ribbon from May Arts.

Simply Silver Mini-cards!

I played along with the Limited Supplies Challenge at SCS last night and I actually made 14 of these mini-cards. I have just given them out to all of the secretaries, vice-principals and the principal of my school with a couple left over for other gifts and what-not over the coming week.

These cards are going back to my roots: versamark, embossing powder, and stamps! Simple! On some of the cards I used a silver foil pen to add a fancy silver outline! I think they turned out pretty nice!

Moxie Fab Challenge: All Creatures Great & Small

I bought this stamp because of my son. He loves anything with kitties. He calls our cat "his brother" despite our cat not having a particularly friendly disposition. I will say, though, that every night our kitty climbs up the ladder to my son's loft bed and cuddles with him right by his face. They wake up every morning intertwined and it's truely a touching sight!

I combined a couple of challenges, the Moxie Fab challenge, and this week's CPS sketch. The sketch has a few more layers than I usually like to do, but I wanted to colour this image and GET THE CARD DONE! So why not use a great sketch? Here's the card:

The red twill is actually recycled gift packaging. My mom gave me a bunch of holiday face cloths and they were bundled together with the twill. SCORE! The bottom paper is last years (or even 2 years ago) Cloud 9 Christmas, and the other two layers (brown and golden) are Basic Grey, also a few years old... The kitty is coloured with Copic markers and I used a little Liquid Applique on the Santa Hat! The stamp is from Penny Black!

If you're here, that means you read blogs. MAN am I ever addicted to reading blogs! I have about 50 subscriptions in my Google reader and I read all of my blogs down to 0 every day. I love the inspiration! These are some mini-cards inspired by Jenyfur. Check hers out HERE.

The partridge image is an Amuse stamp from last year coloured with Copics. Yes, I'm still

on a yellow kick, but only because I have so many yellow supplies this year! The ribbon

is PTI, and the patterned paper (scalloped circle) is Basic Grey, as are the buttons. The curly

tree is a stamp from Hero Arts?? Some old red buttons are the decoration..

This is my Elzybells stamp that has been cold and lonely for a year. Man, is she cute!

I coloured her with Copics, adorned her with Liquid Applique, and cut it out with

long rectangle nestabilities. I am going to package these with two in a pack
to sell at the flower shop.
The snowflake stamps are random Amuse stamps stamped in white!

MORE Christmas cards?? Are you freaking kidding me??

This has, by FAR, been the busiest year for Christmas card making in the 4 years I've been doing it. I have had my big company order come and go, I've had a 12 days of Christmas event and blog hop with Jacksonbelle, I've made and sold 30+ cards to my community choir, AND have had to keep the stock plentiful and fresh at the flower shop I consign at. It's been difficult keeping up and luckily I have had the chance to sit down and make some cards this past week. Here are some designs I've been playing around with:

"Christmas" and the Damask design were cut out with the Silhouette. I doused the damask in glitter and it really sparkles in real life:

I made a bunch of these cards with various papers on the bottom. LOVE this image!! (Hero Arts)

I'll share a few more tomorrow. I still have a LOT of work to do before Christmas, that's for sure!

Jacksonbelle Tuesday Challenge: a Sketch!

It's my dear son's birthday on Wednesday, but we're having the party tomorrow and he absolutely LOVES a Kim Hughes stamp of mine, so I HAD to use it on his birthday card. It's going to be a pretty lean birthday and Christmas this year, so I hope this card and the couple things that we bought for him will bring him joy.

Here's the card I made with this week's sketch, and Dawn's color challenge:

So I used a piece of unlikely birthday paper, and that's the blue piece which is actually from the MME Christmas collection! The rusty coloured paper is also from MME but it's from the Bloom and Grow collection. Here's a close-up of the "Cuteasaurous" on which I used a technique called "Nasty Rag."

The technique is simple. Colour the area of the image you want to "nastify" and ONLY that section. Grab a rag with a lot of texture (I used a very old bath towel) and spray some colourless blender solution on it. Dab your image with the rag and you will get the "Nasty Rag" effect. Cool eh?

Welcome to day 12 of the Jacksonbelle 12 Days of Christmas! Today we have a super fun blog hop for all of you. Here are a couple of cards I made JUST FOR YOU!!

The patterned paper is Cosmo Cricket paper pack. I cut out "December" and the star with my Silhouette and added some pizazz by inking the edges with brown ink and
adding some "shine" with a white gel pen.

Now this card was a total mistake. Do you see the details in the star? Those were actually
mis-cuts (or should I say, NON cuts) from my Silhouette machine. I didn't have
the paper setting right and I did a whole sheet of snowflakes that didn't cut all the
way through. So what was I gonna do? Throw it away? No way!! I cut stars out of
that sheet of mis-cuts and when I inked it up a little the details popped right out. Happy mistake!! (PS.. This is a CPS Sketch.. isn't it great?!?!)

I used that paper from Making Memories I've been addicted to again, and a button or two from Basic Grey.

On the 11th day of Christmas Tobi made for thee....

11 crystals sparkling...

I counted and there are actually 11 crystals! haha....I used

some Zva crystals from this set, and just cut

up the line to use the individual crystals to accent the tree.

I made this box for the 12 days of Christmas celebration at the Jacksonbelle Embellishments blog. 12 days of wonderful projects, cards, ornaments etc...I used my favourite paper of the season (Making Memories) as the base, and some White Papertrey Ink cardstock for the coordinating tag.

I made a 2-5-7-10 box... Kinda.. I changed the dimensions a little to make

a wider front and skinnier sides. My scores are at 2.5, 4, 6.5, 8, 9 (the last score gives you a lip to glue)..

And the final product: Isn't the lighting SO cool??? It was a fluke, but I love it!

Additional info:

I used the Scor-pal for all of my scoring, and Zip-Dry adhesive for all of the gluing! I sponged

around the tag with the Nestabilities die on the tag to create the white ring.

It's a Crazy Christmas around here, but I still have time for a Jacksonbelle challenge!

I imagine everyone is extremely busy this time of year, but if you're wondering where I've been, well.. I call this "Christmas Concert Season" because in the last 8 days I've had 8 concerts/dress rehearsals (That's right, every single day! Sometimes two!!), and from year-to-year it's at least this busy. Things are winding down with my school concert tomorrow night and after that.....Sweet freedom.

I have also had a Christmas Card order to fill, and the company pays me really well, so I like to do a good job. Here are the cards:

Their company colours are, you guessed it, yellow and black, so I was *thrilled* to find this Making Memories paper that is not only festive and yellow, but it's FLOCKED! Love it! For the main image I re-created their logo in photoshop, printed it out, cut it out with Nestabilities, airbrused it with a Y26 Copic Marker, stamped snowflakes with a glue pad and covered those with glitter.. PHEW! Like I said, I like to go BEYOND the call of duty for this company. I used Papertrey Ink ribbon and an Amuse stamp for the snowflakes. I am really happy with how it turned out!!!

Today is the beginning of the Jacksonbelle Embellishments 12 Days of Christmas celebration!

I thought about a couple things when designing this card. 1) I wanted to use my Silhouette because I just bought a BUNCH of new shapes over the weekend 2) I wanted to use up some scrap paper I had laying around and 3) I didn't want to colour anything!! So this is what I made:

I used some May Arts Grosgrain Ribbon, My Mind's Eye paper, SU! cardstock, and some kraft paper. The snowflakes are an old amuse stamp..

Countdown to Christmas

I finally did it. I made an advent calendar. I saw the calendars at my LSS (Melissa Frances) and I said to myself, "This is the year you're going to do this for Phoenix (my son)" and I did! I used all My Mind's Eye products (paper and chipboard shapes) to decorate, and used the number stickers included in the kit. It took me two hours from beginning to end, so it was a relatively "quick" project to pull off..

Using a folded and stamped piece of PTI paper I created a back-drop for some of the larger die-cut shapes. I used flower-soft in Polar White on the ground.

And here's the finished calendar:

Now I have to go shopping for goodies to stuff inside! I think Phoenix is going to really enjoy this for years to come!

Hmmm... What's my favourite product at the Jacksonbelle store? That's the challenge today! Create a project with my favourite product which is..........I would have to say...............there's too many products to choose....... okay, I pick Basic Grey!! I had some papers from last year's Christmas collection laying around and because I need to make way for NEW Christmas product I used that. I made 3 cards, and here they are:

Look, ma! No stamping! I used stickers in the paper pack as well as some ribbon, and some Prima "glitter spray." (the shiny leaf on the last card)...

Featured Stamper Challenge at SCS

I had a lot of fun creating this card. I don't usually RIP my heavily-guarded Papertrey Ink paper, but for this background I think it was necessary.
I "cased" this card that was created using encaustic painting so I had to find a way to replicate the colours of the background. I stamped "rain" onto the blue that's barely visible in the photo, and I also sponged ink in the same blue colour and cream to create texture in the sky.
The tree and ground have glossy accents on them for the wet and rainy look.

The tree is a die-cut shape from Silhouette. It was originally printed on Kiwi Kiss cardstock, but I sponged most of the green away with brown ink. Now the green is just peeking through here and there...

Jacksonbelle Tuesday Challenge

This week's challenge was to pick a dress from this cute collection
of girl's dresses. I wasn't a dress-wearing girl, but pieces like these make
me have a few regrets. *sniff, sniff*

This is the dress I chose. I saw layers of ruffles on a card RIGHT away so I got to work.

Each layer of ruffles were folded, sanded, glued, embossed with UTEE, then adhered

to a piece of cardstock with brads because they were SO THICK!
I also embossed the image!

Supplies: Stampavie image, Pink Paislee paper (brown), American Crafts
ribbon, Bazzill paper, PTI Paper.

Just my humble opinion...

This is a comparison of two inks that are great to USE WITH COPIC MARKERS! I have been using Nick Bantock ink in Lamp Black (by Ranger) for a LONG time. It was the ink I first used with Copics.. Then everyone said, "Try Palette!! It's the best!!!" and it wasn't... So I went back to Nick. Then everyone said "Try Memento! It's definately the best!!!" So I did.. And it's not! I'm sorry... Here's why:

"My ink" is just darker. A true black. And trust me, I stamped the same way and both

pads are juicy!

I think the results are pretty clear! Give this ink a try and let me know what you think!!

November VSN!

Everytime there's a VSN (Virtual Stamp Night) I try to fit in a few challenges and as per usual I fit in 4. So here are the cards:

These cards (and 6 more of the same) were made with a Unity set I won at SCS

from World Card-making day. Isn't it so perfect? I paired the stamps

with some American Crafts papers I've had hanging around for a while and

viola!

Cracked glass technique. Love it. 3 layers of UTEE (Ultra thick embossing enamel) heated

then allowed to cool. BREAK! (My favourite part) Stamps and all cardstock

is Papertrey Ink.

Very interesting Christmas papers by Pink Paislee.. When I first saw them I was like,
REALLY? Christmas? But when the project is done the papers make the card feel warm
and cozy.. The stamp is a Bella (duh) and the sentiment is Papertrey.

This last card was made again with Pink Paislee papers and a new-to-me stamp by Stampavie.
I grabbed the wrong paper so it was kind of finicky to colour, but it turned out
nice and warm like I wanted it to! Love those Copic markers... Here's a close-up
of the image:

Jacksonbelle Challenge: Holiday Gifts!

The challenge for this week was to make a holiday gift item, so because I have about 20+ coffee bags (and I actually love using them for gifts) I thought I would get a head start on my Christmas stash..

I stamped on the coffee bag with Vintage Cream ink (Papertrey) and an old Stampendous snowflake. I stamped the adorable Stampavie penguin in Memento ink on Papertrey white paper and coloured with Copics. A couple dabs of flower soft here and there completed the image. (sentiment is Papertrey ink). I cut out the circles with the Creative Memories cutting system and scraped the edge of the red circle.

Wait 'til you see my funny version of this guy tomorrow. I kinda FORGOT what penguins look like (they're not really native to my area, hahaha) and I kinda well...... You'll see. hahaha.. anyway. Take a look at the rest of the team's gifty creations:

Just Because!

Do you ever make cards "just because?" I need to do it more because 1) I have a bunch of deadlines coming up and I need more cards, 2) it's nice to make something just for the heck of it and 3) there's no pressure to make it GREAT! It is what it is.....

I used all the same supplies as yesterday's card, just with a different stamp set. I used a really cutesy Unity Stamp set and paper-pieced the cupcake tops! All paper is Papertrey Ink, as well as the Polka Dot Basics stamp set. "Thanks" is a Kaiser rubon, and ribbon is American Crafts.

Jacksonbelle Tuesday Challenge: It's a sketch!

I dug into some Papertrey ink paper for this one. Why do I guard it like it's gold? It's actually very inexpensive paper, even with the exchange, so why do I hoard it? I don't know.. But I pulled out 3 random colours and went to work. Now.... My bad on the sketch. I didn't add a "star" element, so I hope you J-belles aren't mad! It just seemed full enough when I was done with everything. Please play along, and if you do, link it to the Jacksonbelle blog, and tag your creation with the keyword: JBE078. Here's my card using an Inkadinkado set that's on clearance baby! (It's all 40% off!)

I used a small image and stamped it in multiple colours (Berry Sorbet, Vintage Cream, Landscape, and Auqa Mist, all Papertrey Ink) on the white, then again on some scrap so I could punch the buggies out! I adhered the punched-out parts with dimensional squares and added the trails with Copic Spica pens!

The polka-dot background was stamped with Polka Dot basics (PTI) in Vintage Cream ink. Take a little time to check out the rest of the girl's creations, and have an awesome day!!

Hallowe'en at the Crawford's

Here are some favourite moments from the last two days in preperation for my second favourite holiday (after Christmas, ofcourse!).

Right now I can hear firecrackers being set off by teenagers at the elementary school across the street as two humungous bowls of Phoenix's candy sit in front of me on the counter...staring.. taunting.... must look away....

At left is one part of my neighbour's Haunted House extravaganza!! It's very cool to live right beside a local Hallowe'en destination. It helped all of us get in the mood!

Phoenix made these sucker-fronts (we stuck them to Sour Suckers..) from My Mind's Eye

chipboard and patterned paper. They turned out better than I'd hoped.

Here's a close-up of one:

After carving the pumpkin we always save the seeds and bake them up with some

olive oil and seasoning salt. Yummy!!

This was our entrance way this year. I was pretty happy with it, again, considering

I was too sick to buy anything new this year!!

I have a lotta scraps on my table. It's starting to be a pile, really, so it was time for me to root through them and make some cards! I placed with my Slice to create the words and the labels. I used the Falala cartridge for all of the Slice cuts. Here's card #1:

I had a piece of kraft CS stamped with the woodgrain stamp (Hero Arts) and white ink. I know woodgrain and kraft aren't your traditional Christmas colours, but I thought it would funky! The paper in the background was embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and I rubbed white ink over the raised spots.

Here's another scrap of the woodgrain that I cut out with a label shape. Joy was inked around the edges. Ribbon is from Papertrey Ink and it's delicious!!

Card #3:

This is my favourite. I used the reverse of the cut-out and saved the pieces from the word to fill in the gap. How much easier can you get design-wise, but I'm just loving this one!!

Dare: Use a non-traditional paper/background stamp/stamp to create some holiday cards! You might be pleasantly surprised!

Jacksonbelle Tuesday Challenge

There's nothing like stamping to get rid of the post-sickness funk. H1N1 seems to be a lingering bug, and although I'm not contagious anymore and am back at work. I still feel tired and not quite myself. It was nice, though, to have some purpose this evening when I set out to do this week's Jacksonbelle Challenge:

it's called1-2-3

1- stamp

2- embellishments

3- layers (maximum)

I used a new Kraftin' Kimmie stamp. Her name is Francesca and she's very quirky! So she was the 1 stamp, my 2 embellishments were the black ribbon (barely visible on top of the patterned paper), and the little gem in the corner, and lastly the card is 3 layers! I added some stickles to the strawberries and the sprinkles on the cupckake too! (i hope that's not an embellishment.. haha)

One layer cards please me to no end!

Krystie Lee has been making some really cute one layer cards with a rectangle stamp as the "background" and I've been loving the look. I don't have a rectangle stamp (WHY DON'T I HAVE A RECTANGLE STAMP????????) so I used post-its to block off an area to sponge my colour into.. I love how it turned out.

I used some old Buckaroo Blue paper from SU! and a new-to-me set called Pocket Silhouettes (also SU!). The sentiment is Whipper Snapper and the butterfly (my favourite part) is Amy Butler.

I have H1N1 (or just plain SWINE as we call it around here) and it's not fun, but it's not the worst I've felt either. I was afraid I'd die or something, and to my pleasant surprise it feels like the flu!! (it's not pleasant but you know what I mean....) But hopefully I will have some energy to craft tomorrow as I've been forced to take some time off from school. (I miss you guys!!!!)

So keep safe! Wash your hands! And don't jinx yourself by saying "I won't get swine!"
