I really do….

I have made a tonne of Valentine’s Day cards in the past couple of days so I can stock up my rack at the flower shop and this is one of my fav’s. I don’t know what it is, but I think layering different-shaped nesties on top of each other is such a cool look. That little cupid is a Tim Holtz die cut (a movers and shapers die) and I cut it out of some Best Creations glitter paper. It’s not as sparkly as using loose glitter, but a heck of a lot quicker and cleaner!!

I used a few old supplies from my “Valentines” box… I mean, how many times do we save our products with good intentions to use them again but never do?? I have some great new Valentine’s Day stuff, but I have a lot of older stuff like these Basic Grey papers and Penny Black stamp..

I just finished designing a class for Clipper Street Scrapbook Co. and I’m really proud of the results. I aimed to design an all-stamping technique class that would reacquaint my students with those old tried-true techniques like:

And aren’t those papers gorgeous?? It’s the “Nantucket” line from Pink Paislee that I’ve been using lately. I’m kind of obsessed, lol.. If you live in the area I would love to see you there!!

I Miss Your Mug

Hi there! It’s a beautiful Monday morning here in Vancouver and I’m off to a great start this week with a bright and sunny CAS card. I combined two challenges: this week’s TSG challenge: Negative Die Cut, and today’s CAS challenge at Splitcoast: Hearts.

I used a Spellbinders die (Classic Hearts) to cut out the shapes then I placed a piece of white cardstock behind the pink and stamped through the openings. I popped the entire pink layer up (I love this look..) and added some stickles to the mug.. I have a lot of fancy mugs and wanted to replicate that.

Coffee?

I’ve admitted my addiction to everything hot in a mug before (coffee, tea, hot chocolate.. anything!) so using sets like this thrill me to no end! I played along with today’s featured stamper challenge and chose to “case” this card. I didn’t do the embossing on the base and I didn’t add the twine - I just wanted to keep the background really clean.

I stamped the mug onto some Pink Paislee “Nantucket” paper and cut it out, and I stamped the hearts with two different distress inks – wild honey and rusty hinge. The lightest heart was achieved by “generation stamping”, which means I first stamped the heart in wild honey on some scratch paper, then I stamped it again without inking it. The residual ink will look a shade or two lighter.. cool, huh?

A really quick post tonight… I’ve been relatively “stoned” from sinus medicine all day and I actually felt alert tonight after it wore off.. hahaha.. Why not make a card for a SCS challenge? I thought.. So I did..

I have all of these really funky Pink Paislee papers and Ephemera and I thought it would be cool to have that pretty label as the focal point for my card. I cut out the border with a gorgeous Memory Box die and placed it on either side of the centre panel.. Cool eh? The sentiment is from a Technique Tuesday se called Love, Ali. Here’s my inspiration for the card:

I would love to have this piece for my house.. It’s totally my style. I love it! You can find the challenge info HERE.

Here’s my take on the sketch.. I changed the shape of the image because… *gasp* I don’t have any oval Nestabilities… I know. Take pity on me and send some my way, hahaha.. But really.. I found I rarely used my oval punches and it just wasn’t a shape I turned to, but I’m looking at it a little closer now.

I used a couple of images from a set called “Scootin’ By” from There She Goes. This set is so fun to colour with Copics. It’s kinda like playing with a Barbie: what colour will her outfit be today?? All the papers are from My Mind’s Eye: Lost and Found Two and the colours are absolutely delish!

The "Brand New"Technique Tuesday Blog Hop

Welcome to the "Brand New" Technique Tuesday blog hop.
Technique Tuesday’s Stamping Techs are blog hopping again, and we are delighted this month to share with you some cool projects made with some of the new stamps Technique Tuesday is debuting this week at the CHA trade show in California.
I had a lot of fun putting this card together and playing with a brand-spanking new set!

Beautiful yellow daffodils. I love it when they show up in early spring and I couldn’t resist pulling out all of my unused yellow inks, paper, glitter pens… Not so much a fan of the yellow, but for this flower, how could I not??? This is a set called “Daily Daffodils” and besides the striking image there are 5 sentiments.

Specifics about the project:

I first stamped the image with a light yellow ink, then I used the “Rock ‘n Roll” technique around the edges of the stamp with a shade of dark yellow.
after the image dried I highlighted the original artwork with Copic Spica pens in gold and clear to give it some glam
The basic grey papers used originally had the red and black inking around the perimeter of the paper (6x6 pad) so when I cut out the pieces I replicated the inking with Ranger Distress Inks.

iSpy Sketches

Hi everyone! It's official. The iSpy Sketches blog is up and running and we are ready to introduce the Special Agents (AKA the design team) to the world! Kim Teasdale (ummm yah, the Kim Teasdale, master colourer extraordinaire) is the brains behind this endeavour and you are in for some fun!

The basis of this challenge will be “spying” a card in any online gallery or blog to be featured on the iSpy

Love, love, love how this turned out.. I used what I thought was a winter-themed nestibilities die, but it turned out that the set (ironwork accents) was just a fancy-dancy all-year set… YAY!

Too Late…

I actually got my butt in gear and made a bunch of cards for the latest Paper Crafts call BUT I didn’t get a few of them uploaded in time… OOPS! So this is my version of one of the go-to sketches. I used a classic Nestabilities die to cut the hearts out then popped up the white paper on top of the striped patterned paper. The sentiment is from a pack of die cuts from the new Basic Grey line called Kissing Booth. It all seemed to just…. come together. That’s the beauty of a sketch!

TSG138–Paper Piecing

I just got this set in the mail and had to use it for this week’s challenge. It’s called Let’s Get Together and it’s all about the coffee! I am a coffee and tea junkie and so are most of the people I know, so this set is meant to be in my life. hahaha. A little paper piecing on the “sleeve” of the coffee cup and it’s done. How easy is that?!?!

Details: All papers are My Mind’s Eye “Alphabet Soup.” All die cuts are Spellbinders.

My Favorite Things - Get Sketchy

I decided to have fun and play along with this week’s My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club Sketch. I don’t know if I’ve ever played along with a MFT sketch, but it was a good push to dust off my stamps and make a pretty card! lol..

Isn’t that just the cutest stamp? I don’t know how long I’ve had it, but I know that it was brand-spanking new.

It feels good to use products that have been sitting around unused. I think as crafters/addicts/shoppers/hoarders we all aim to use what we have and curb the spending, but it doesn’t always work out like that, does it? I’m not going to make a resolution or anything, but I am going to AIM to use my stash more. It’s crazy with CHA just around the corner, but I’ll try to look away. just look away… hehehehe..

Playing with Colour…

I decided to play along with the colour challenge from Splitcoast today, it was a good one:

Basic Grey, Island Indigo, and Lucky Limeade. Nice combo, eh?

Here’s my tag:

This is a tag with a number of products on it, but I’ll try and fill you in as best I can..

I stamped the “ink blot” looking image (PTI’s Damask Designs) with Denim Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist… Yes, you can stamp with it. Dry with heat tool.
I painted most of the tag with olive coloured “Glimmer Glam” and let it dry.
Then I misted the whole tag with Turquoise Glimmer Mist and the glam acted as a resist, so only a bit of the turquoise sunk into the paper.
I then stuck some black ribbon down and adhered the sentiment stamped in grey on top. (Sentiment is from Kids are Cool from Technique Tuesday)
I adhere the rosette (Pink Paislee) on top.

This is a close-up of the resist section. I loved how it turned out.. It’s always fun to try new techniques.

A Year In Review - 2011

Hi there! It's become a little bit of a tradition for many bloggers to do a "year in review" on or around New Years, and it's become one of my favourite posts to put together. I have had a wonderful year of cardmaking, designing for: SRM Stickers, Whimsie Doodles, and currently: There She Goes, Technique Tuesday and Mint Motif. I have also gained quite a few new readers (YOU!) and I am so happy that so many wonderful, supportive people have joined me on my crafting journey.

But without further ado, here are my favourite cards from 2011: one from each month.

And yes, the last three fav’s were TAGS and not cards, and that’s something that I will remember this year for: my new love of tags, Tim Holtz stuff, and distressed/altered items. LOVE it.

Little Moments Blog Hop Challenge

And… Because I got such a warm response from my first Copic video I filmed most of the colouring of this image. My iPhone was a little full so I wasn’t quite able to capture the whole thing, but really you just missed out on me drawing the floor and colouring in the background.

Hello!

Welcome to the All Things Love Technique Tuesday blog hop.

Technique Tuesday’s Stamping Techs are blog hopping again, and we are sharing love-themed projects this month.

I have to admit to being a little bit sad to put the Christmas stamps away, but in making this card I was reminded that I have so many great “Love” stamps! And really, we only have a month and a half to prepare for Valentine’s Day!!

The sentiment is from a lovely set called Love Always Wins by Ali Edwards and this is a great example of not needing to use the whole stamp when stamping a sentiment.. I added a little color to the sentiment by stamping a heart from the same set in a very pale pink as to not detract from the words..

The green medallion-looking die cut is a Memory Box die, just in case you’re wondering..

Merry Christmas!

It’s bittersweet, isn’t it?

We wait all year for this day (at least, I do!) and it comes.

Then as quickly as it comes, it goes.

Just like our wedding day or the birth of our children (I'm exaggerating slightly, but you kwim) the day is a whirlwind of activity and you wonder why and how the hours flew by so quickly.

I hope that your Christmas day brings peace and happiness, and that time stands still long enough for you to cherish the precious moments with your loved ones.

Notes about the card:

I usually reserve this kind of technique for a tag, but it’s fun to do with a card too!
I misted my craft mat with various glimmer mists and smooshed the cardstock into the puddle
I dried the cardstock with a heat tool then I flat-ironed it flat.
Then I stamped various sentiments (Technique Tuesday Believe by Ali Edwards) in Brilliance black ink and set aside to dry
Once the ink was dry I distressed the edges with brown ink
I wrapped a little piece of silver cord around the main panel and stuck it to the card front

A beautiful little felt snowflake added a little femininity to the card and I was done!

Oh My Goodness!!

This is an exciting day for me! I got an iPhone last week and I’ve been downloading apps and playing games, taking cool pictures, but I kinda totally forgot that I can take videos with it. DUH!!

This is my grand debut of a Copic video (yes I know Copic videos are SO 2 years ago, but I don’t care!) and I hope you like it.. I did the kind of video where I do no talking but show you the colours that I’m working with and I’ve sped it up… I hope you like the format because I really do…

Distressing Organization

I was distressed about how to store my Tim Holtz distress inks and stains until today. Tim recently came out with a couple of storage solutions, one being the “Cargo Case.”

(FYI, we still have a couple in stock at Clipper Street for $47.99 if you still want one… You could also get it on sale today for 40% off too!) Anyway.. I broke down and bought one today. I was hesitating buying it because I like to have my stuff visible – so I use it – which would mean if I bought this I would be looking at finding enough space on my desk to have it open all the time…

Here’s what I’ve settled on for the time being. This is what I’ve filled it with:

So right now it has the place of honour right next to my craft mat and we’ll see how it goes. I don’t have an issue with re-organizing my space every few weeks if it doesn’t work for me. Right now I’m really into the distress ink thing but that may change in a little while… Who knows!
