Wake up call: "KUTX Live at the Four Seasons"

KUTX 98.9, The Austin Music Experience, and Four Seasons Hotel Austin invite music fans to “KUTX Live at the Four Seasons,” which connects music fans to some of the SXSW Music Festival’s most anticipated artists.

Produced by KUTX 98.9, the four early-morning music broadcasts will feature 25-minute sets. Performances will be broadcast live on KUTX 98.9.

The event is open to the public on a first-come, first served basis; no SXSW badges or wristbands required. Admission is $10 per day, which includes a breakfast taco, granola bar and unlimited coffee. All proceeds benefit the Seton Shivers Cancer Center.

Zilker Park Kite Festival 2013

March 3, 2013 is your day to fly a kite in Austin, Texas, at the nation's oldest kite festival!

The Annual Zilker Kite Festival is one of Austin’s best-known events. Held on the first Sunday of March, it is the kick-off to the hundreds of springtime activities in Austin. Everyone is welcome to attend, including pets. There is no admission to attend or to participate in the contest.

Most folks come out to see the spectacular sight of hundreds of kites in the sky and to enjoy a spring day in the park.

36th Annual O. Henry Pun-Off World Championship

Welcome to the annual competition of the best and worst puns with two core events: "Punslingers” and “Punniest of Show”?

The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department will host the O. Henry Pun-Off World Championships in Brush Square Park, behind the O. Henry Museum, at 409 East 5th Street.

The 36th Annual Championships will feature music by the Greatest American Heroes and food trucks from the Peached Tortilla and Mmmpanadas.

The event is free and open to the public.

2013 Statesman Capitol 10,000

The Statesman Cap 10K is an annual Austin tradition. Approximately 25,000 participants will complete the 6.2 mile race.

The start line is at Barton Springs Road and South Congress Avenue near the Austin American-Statesman. The race finishes on West Riverside Drive along Lady Bird Lake on Auditorium Shores.

Start time: Sunday, April 7, 2013. 8:00 a.m.

Packet pickup will be April 5th and 6th at the Health & Fitness Expo at the Austin Convention Center.

The 12th Annual Lonestar Rod & Kustom Round Up

The 12th Annual Lonestar Round Up features custom cars, hot rods and live music at  Travis County Expo Center in Austin, Texas.

For more fun, stroll along South Congress Ave.   on Friday and Saturday for the "unofficial" display of vehicles parked along the Avenue. Enjoy the live music at the Continental Club or Jo's Coffee.

The main event is at the Expo Center Friday and Saturday, April 5th and 6th, 2013.

The Capital of Texas Triathlon Memorial Day Weekend

The CapTexTri begins with a swim in Lady Bird Lake with the spectacular backdrop of the downtown Austin skyline. Bursting out of T1, bikes cross the 1st Street bridge and head north past the Texas Capitol and up to the University of Texas, then returning through the heart of Downtown Austin on Congress Avenue and heading west along Cesar Chavez Blvd and Lady Bird Lake to Austin High School and then back to the 1st Street bridge. Olympic distance competitors complete four laps, Sprint distance is 2 laps, and the First Tri is one and done. Back to T2 and then out on the run which follows the south side of Lady Bird Lake then crosses the Ann Richards Bridge famous for the largest urban bat colony in the U.S. and the millions of bats that take to the skies from its superstructure at dusk. Olympic distance athletes complete 2 laps of the run course and everyone finishes on Auditorium Shores to a jammin’ Finish and Post-Race Festival.

O. Henry Museum Pun-off Championships

The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department will host the Pun-Off World Championships, Saturday, May 19, 2012 in Brush Square Park, behind the O. Henry Museum, 409 East 5th Street. This year’s theme will be O. Henry’s 150th birthday. Enjoy a day of wild and zany wordplay competition. There will be food, live music, a used book sale and live auction. Proceeds from the used book sale and live auction benefit the Friends of the O. Henry and Susanna Dickinson Museums. Bleacher seating is limited, so bring your folding and lawn chairs. Four Dancers Perform Solo Variations of "I Think Not"

I Think Not is a solo dance that was choreographed by Deborah Hay for the 2011 Solo Performance Commissioning Project. Four of the 20 dancer/choreographers who attended the project in Findhorn, Scotland, last summer, will perform their solo adaptations of I Think Not.
Three performance dates at two locations:
February 15 and 16 at 7 and 9 pm @ Mercury Hall, 615 Cardinal Lane, Austin

Saturday February 18 at 7 and 9 pm. @ South Austin Studio (1700 Ashby), Austin

Tickets: sliding scale $20-$10

Deborah Hay has conducted the Solo Performance Commissioning Project in Findhorn, Scotland, since 2004. Dancers attend from all over the world. Eleven countries were represented in 2011. Ms. Hay will introduce these performances and speak a little about this project.
