Great ideas, Bridget! I try to be cautious about posting too many things, because students often tune out if I overload them. I use a bookmarking site -- https://pinboard.in/ -- that allows me to publish links according to the tag I gave them. So for some classes, I tag items with the course number, and then only those bookmarks appear on the blog. I put these in either the sidebar or the footer, depending on the course.

For example, see the footer here: http://mmc4341.wordpress.com/ The first three columns are automatically updated whenever I tag a new bookmark.

Premiere made more sense than FCP since about 2005 and couldn't be touched since CS4 in 2008. Why would you torture students with that mess by Apple?

As far as curriculum (in very general terms), we jump start our students with some basic edits with prerecorded clips in the first year, then move on to photography (including a timelapse/stopmotion assignment), then to audio with some vox-pop and live radio show/podcast type stuff, then finally back to video with an interview, another vox-pop, a recipe/how it's made assignment and a news report. They finish the undergrad with a 10min documentary. I think this sets them up with the basic skills and a rudimentary understanding of what goes into producing video from a technical standpoint (not that much emphasis on the content as there perhaps should be. Keep in mind this is not a j-school program but media production in general and they presumably handle other aspects in courses I don't have anything to do with. And then there's typography, animation, DTP, web design/programming etc. to cover other media.

In masters we kick off with a live streamed, 3 camera studio production, continue with a 3-6 cam live event recording edited individually in post (they usually go for concerts in small venues), then followed by a short chroma key feature and a fiction short for the finish.

It's interesting to see how other schools do video but with sometimes vast differences in the overall approach I find it's usually not that easy to apply anything directly but just the general idea. I like the two assignments given by Lih but I'm not sure I could use them in any way. But I'll definitely think about it.
