<p>- Seeds or nuts &#8211; 1 tablespoon (sesame, pumpkin, sunflower)</p>
<p>- Soaked almonds, flax seeds, or Brazil nuts)</p>
<h3>Choices of Liquid – about ½ &#8211; 1 cup</h3>
<p>- Apple juice/ Orange juice/ Yogurt/ Tofu (blend into liquid first with 4-5 tablespoons of water)</p>

<p>The researchers thought that increased heart disease risk from eating meats might be caused by a chemical that is produced by bacteria in your gut from digesting red meat. This almost unknown chemical is then converted by your liver into another chemical called TMAO that then travels through your blood, increasing your risk of heart disease.</p>
<p>Follow-up studies showed that vegans and vegetarians have far less TMAO in their blood than meat eaters.</p>

Chances are you haven’t even heard of some of these “flu busters” because they’re so inexpensive that there’s no budget for ads on TV.</p>
<p><b>“Nip it in the bud”:</b> one of the best natural medicines for any infectious illness is also one of the best-kept secrets of your health food store. If you haven’t heard of it, don’t feel bad. Most holistic health care professionals haven’t either. Yet this is the big favorite among my clients because it keeps them and their kids from getting sick all winter.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tomcorsonknowles.com/blog/flu-fighters-fend-off-flu-with-fast-acting-natural-medicines/flu/" rel="attachment wp-att-4182"><img class="size-full wp-image-4182 alignleft" alt="Flu Prevention" src="http://www.tomcorsonknowles.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/flu.jpg" width="275" height="183" /></a></p>
<p>We call it “nip it in the bud,” but that’s just the nickname. The real name is <b>Ferrum phos</b>., and it’s the best natural medicine to take when you’re right on the verge of getting sick. You can tell when your kids are under the weather — they are whiny or cranky, bored and listless, uninterested in their favorite food or video game. They might have a glazed look in their eyes or a warm forehead, but other than that, not much in the way of symptoms. How about you? You know when you feel rundown, you’re not getting enough sleep, maybe you’re getting that scratchy feeling in the back of your throat and you just know something is hatching.</p>
<p>Try Ferrum phos. and you’ll be amazed. Dissolve a couple of pellets in your mouth as one dose; it’s safe to take two or three doses a day. Your kids will love this medicine (and yes, the FDA rates it as an over-the-counter medicine) because the pellets taste like little sugar candies.* Almost always you or your child will be back to healthy energy the next day.</p>
<p>Occasionally Ferrum phos. speeds up the development of the cold or flu so that it comes on quicker, goes away much faster, and never has really strong symptoms. If that happens, you’ll need to take the best-matching remedy for your new set of symptoms. We’ll get to that, but first let’s talk about the most powerful flu-preventing medicines.</p>
<p>“<b>Oscillo</b>” is our nickname for <b>Oscillococcinum</b>, the best-selling flu medicine in France and widely available in the US in pharmacies as well as health food stores, easily recognizable in its bright orange box. It’s a great remedy for the flu, but guess what? It’s an even better preventive remedy. The box contains several small tubes, each with a lot of tiny pellets. The directions say to take a whole tube at once, but for prevention you only need a couple of pellets at a time. Take it once a week for four weeks in the beginning of the flu season; once a month for the rest of the flu season; and once a day (max 7 days in a row) if you are being directly sneezed on by someone who has the flu.</p>
<p>Once the flu is underway, “Oscillo” will work best if it matches the symptoms of your flu: the typical fever, tiredness and malaise plus muscle aches and pains. It’s not so much of a head-cold type flu or nausea-diarrhea type flu.</p>
<p><b>Influenzinum</b> is another, similar remedy which in my experience works even better than Oscillo, both for prevention and for treatment once the flu is underway. It’s not usually found in stores, so you might want to grab some Oscillo while you’re searching for Influenzinum online. I would get both a 9c and a 30c potency (strength) if you can, and use the 9c following the above protocol for prevention, then the 30c if you actually get the flu. A typical schedule for treatment would be two pellets four times a day while the symptoms are really bad, then twice a day once you start to get better, and stop taking it when you’re well. (This is quite different from antibiotics which have to be taken until they’re done even if you feel better.)</p>
<p>Results? In my own practice, in the midst of a flu epidemic in Boston, out of several hundred people who used this protocol, I’ve only heard of three children actually getting the flu, and in each case they were better in one or two days unlike other kids in their class who were out sick for a week or more.</p>
<p><b>Gelsemium</b> is another fast-acting natural medicine which works well for any viral illness because it helps with the typical viral symptoms of extreme exhaustion (you feel like a truck ran over you), fuzzy-foggy-headedness, and malaise (you just plain feel awful all over). When you need Gelsemium, you’re so tired you don’t want to get out of bed all day, and if you do you can hardly open your eyes. Your eyelids look like they are at half mast! You may also feel dizzy when you try to get up, so you want to go right back to bed. You may be surprised at how quickly your energy comes back when you use Gelsemium.</p>
<p><b>Arsenicum</b> is another natural medicine for colds, flu and other infectious illnesses. When people need Arsenicum, they are just as exhausted as folks needing Gelsemium. We call it “prostration out of proportion,” as in, why would someone have to stay in bed for five days when they just have a cold? Most people would be up and around, even if they’re sneezing and sniffling, but not someone who needs Arsenicum or Gelsemium.</p>
<p>Here’s how you can tell the difference between the two: someone who needs Arsenicum is tired but restless, so they go to bed but keep getting up again; also they are anxious and fretful, likely to imagine worst-case scenarios about lengthy illnesses, losing their job due to too many sick days, leading to foreclosure on their house . . . you get the idea. Someone who needs Gelsemium is too fuzzy-brained to think! Also Arsenicum is the best natural medicine for the first stage of a head cold when the nose is dripping like a faucet, so, if that’s you, try Arsenicum even if other symptoms may not match.</p>
<p>There are many other natural medicines like these in the homeopathic section of your health food store. Make friends with them one by one. Each one is good for many different ailments. Don’t be afraid of the long Latin names. Most of them have nicknames and once you try them, they will be your friends for life!</p>
<p>Among the many wonderful supplements to take alongside these medicines, I’ll just mention my favorite: elderberry syrup. <b>Elderberry</b> is a natural antiviral, so effective that a research study in Israel showed that it is as effective as Tamiflu against the flu. It’s also a great cough syrup, and kids love the taste (a fruity-berry taste). It’s often in a base of honey, and honey has its own antimicrobial action. I like the Maine Medicinals brand, which has especially effective forms of elderberry, and also the Apitherapy brand which puts elderberry in a base of raw honey.</p>
<p><b>Directions for buying and using homeopathic medicines:</b> You will most likely find them in a health food store or online in a 30c potency (strength), which is the best potency for most people. (If you are hypersensitive, look for a milder 6c or 12c potency). Dissolve a couple of pellets in your mouth as one dose. (The label may say you need five, but actually the frequency is much more important than the number of pellets you take at one time.) In general you take it four times a day when the symptoms are really, really bad; watch for them to get better; as healing gets underway, slow down to twice a day; and when you’ve really turned the corner, stop taking it and let the existing doses keep working.</p>
<p><b>If it doesn’t work: </b>30c might not be strong enough for you (you will learn this by experience). Try making it stronger by dissolving two pellets in a half cup of water, stir really really well, and sip gradually, swishing like mouthwash before swallowing. Or it might not be the best-matching remedy. While you’re just getting started with homeopathics, you can also try a good combination remedy like Alpha CF for colds and flu.</p>

<p>*In fact they are made from a sucrose/lactose blend. If the tiny amount of sugar or lactose in the pellets is a problem, dissolve a pellet in a half cup of water. If even that is too much, dab the water on your lips or inside of the wrist or temples, where the skin is thin, or even pour it into bath water.</p>

<p>Having a short, disrupted sleep may affect our physical performance, emotional and social abilities. It may also affect the quality of our work that is why if you have a lack of sleep, you will have a low-quality work and may affect your performance.  That is why, good sleep is very important and in this article, I will help you to achieve a good and uninterrupted sleep.</p>

<li>Make a sleep routine. Having a night routine would give your body a “go” signal that you are now ready to go to school. Like simple routines such as turning off the lights, turning on a good and relaxing music, performing yoga and meditation and washing your face. You should also make a schedule of your sleeping time. For example, if you set your sleeping schedule from 930-11PM, make sure that you already sleep by that time.</li>
</ul>

<li>Prepare a clean, wrinkled free and relaxing comforter. In this way, you will make your bed very conducive for sleeping.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Try to hide your clock under the bed because you will be disturbed by the light. And if ever you will wake up in the middle of the night, you will not be aware what time is it and you will not be conscious.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Change your pillow once in a while. If your pillows are overused, make sure that you change it once in a while because your pillow also deserve a break.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Choose the right pillow for you. Choose a pillow that you are very comfortable with. Make sure that it should support your neck and shoulders so that you will not suffer from neck or shoulder pain the day after.</li>
<li>Switch to a more heavier and thick curtains. In this way, street lights will not disrupt your sleep.</li>
<li>Clean your bedroom and choose a soothing color like light or olive green or any color that makes you happy. It is really important that you will be the one to clean your bedroom so that you will know where to find your things and you will really feel that it is your room.</li>
<li>Soak your feet in a warm water or wear socks when sleeping. Studies show that if you felt the warmth inside your body you will achieve optimal level of sleep.</li>
</ul>

<li>Don’t let your pets sleep in your room as much as possible. We do love our pets and we want to sleep with them. However, we should train them also to sleep at their place and for your sleep also not to be interrupted.</li>
</ul>

<li>Try to sleep alone. We really do love to sleep with our partner or spouse but sometimes we really cannot avoid them to snore, to kick us off and could lead to the disruption  of our sleep.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Eat nuts before going to bed. Studies have shown than nuts contain a sleep-enhancing amino acid, tryptophan.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Avoid juice before bedtime. Drink a glass of water or milk instead. Studies have shown that drinking juice before going to bed may delay your sleep most probably because of the high sugar content.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Use relaxing oil such as eucalyptus. Relaxing oil may help you induce sleep and its relaxing scent may give you a good night&#8217;s sleep.</li>

<p>Stress can be a very dreadful and a difficult situation that is why it should be given enough attention as soon as possible so that it would not lead to a more serious and chronic situation as what I have discussed in my previous article.</p>
<p>In this article, I will give you some points on how to handle stress so that it will not fall into a more serious condition.</p>

<li>The number one rule in avoiding stress is to have enough rest and sleep. Our body also needs to charge after a long day at work.  Our body cannot function very well if we are exhausted and tired. We really need to recharge and one way is to have adequate sleep. It would usually range from 6-8 hours so that it would be enough for our body to get ready for the next day.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>One important tip also in avoiding stress is by taking breaks. If you are overwhelmed with bulks of work, you have all the right to take breaks. You can breathe some fresh hair for an hour, have some coffee, or enjoy your vacation on your leave. In this way, you will be unwind and ready for the next challenge.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Manage your time efficiently so that you will not cram and may not rush things at the last minute. One technique in avoiding stress at work is by managing time very well, prioritize what to do first and what to do last so that you will have an order in your work.</li>
</ul>
<p>You can also make a personal planner for you to follow in a day. Make also a habit to assess yourself at the end of the day so      that you will know the things you have accomplished and what are not.</p>
<ul>
<li>Have a regular exercise like walking, running, jogging, bicycling and even going to the gym. In this way, you can let your stress out through a healthy way. You cannot just avoid stress but you can be healthy at the same time.</li>
</ul>
<p>Exercise should not be strenuous, it should be something you have to look forward everyday.</p>
<ul>
<li>Eat healthy and choose foods that are best for your health. If you are physically and emotionally stressed, make sure that you compensate it with healthy foods so that there will still be enough nutrients and vitamins that are very important in our body.</li>
</ul>
<p>I know you have noticed people who are very stressed. Their skin looks dull and dry, their hair looks frizzy, their eyes have eye bags. Mainly because they do not attend to their needs even though they are stressed. You should pamper yourself most especially when you are stressed because it is the thing that your body needs the most. Go to the spa, rejuvenate your skin, and have some facial treatment. I really believe that your body also needs pampering once in a while.</p>

<p>Having a good, healthy and white skin is very important. It is one of the asset we can be proud of. But, we really have to remember that one of the dirtiest part of our body is also the mouth because foods passed through there and bacteria accumulate over time if we do not have a regular oral hygiene.</p>
<p>There are a lot of serious effects if you will not take care of your teeth. It will cause you to have dental problems such as cavities and gum problems which will lead to bad breath and bad odor. This is so disappointing right? So, don’t ever take your dental health for granted.</p>
<p>In this article, I will share with you some simple tips on how to maintain your dental health:</p>

<li>Spend time in brushing your teeth</li>

<p>I know that we are all in  a hurry to go to work but sometimes we have to surrender even a small time in brushing our teeth. The dentist would recommend to brush teeth in a minimum of 2 minutes. In this span of time, you would be able to brush the whole parts of your teeth, gums and your tongue. If you are too tired and lazy to brush your teeth, you could also use an electric toothbrush. This toothbrush will do the job for you. In children’s cases, they are more interested in it and same with adults.</p>

<li>Use of Green tea</li>
</ul>
<p>Aside from its anti-oxidant properties, green tea also used found by researchers that is extremely essential for the whitening of the teeth. This tea has a natural fluoride in it too that will help make our teeth strong.  You also have heard that coffee and tea could make a discoloration of our teeth, yes it is true but you also have an alternative by taking green tea capsule. This is very affordable, can save much of your time and it has a lot of benefits to your health.</p>

<li>Don’t smoke as much as possible</li>
</ul>
<p>Smoking cigarettes and tobacco can make your teeth turn to yellow. It is not good to look at and it is not good for your health as well. Smoking tobacco or cigarette will cause you no good so it&#8217;s better to quit. But if it is impossible for you to quit, try to taper it down day by day. And you will be amazed one day that you were not smoking already.</p>
<p>Maintaining a good dental hygiene is not just about looking good and looking presentable. Yes, It is one if the factor. But the main reason is that you are taking care of your whole body and that includes your dental health.</p>

Actually anxiety may occur together with depression and it may disrupt your everyday activities and schedule, mood and even your relationship with others.</li>
<li><i>Stress may lead to cardiovascular and heart diseases. </i>Stress may lead to heart attacks and heart diseases most especially when you cannot handle it very well.</li>
<li><i>Stress may be linked to chronic diseases such as diabetes. </i>Physical and mental stress can increase our sugar level and long term diabetes may lead to blindness, kidney diseases and liver problems.<i>      </i></li>
<li><i>Hair loss and dandruff. </i>The hair loss is not primarily the result of genetics but it is one of the effects of stress in our body.</li>
<li><i>Obesity. </i>If we are stressed, we tend to binge eating so that we could cope up with our tired body. So, usually stress people are usually overweight and obese.</li>
<li><i>It will make you look old. </i>Being stressed may affect your skin and the way you look that is why if you are always a stress, you tend to look older than your age and it is not a good outcome. <p>I have families, friends and loved ones who undergone depression and according to them, it is not a very good situation. It is like that you really want to be good but your mind and emotions cannot handle it. In this article, I’ am giving simple tips on how you can overcome depression. These may be simple but I hope that these will help you a lot. You can also share it to your families, friends and loved ones. Surely, these will be a great help.</p>
<p>1. Explore the sun and enjoy the sunshine</p>
<p>Researchers showed that a decrease in exposure to sunlight have a greater tendency for depression since lack of exposure to sun can lead to secretion of melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that is responsible for lethargic condition and it can lead us to our lowest mood.</p>
<p>That is mainly why there is an increase rate of depression most especially during winter season. There is also an increase rate of suicide during this season because they are just there indoor. So, to avoid depression, enjoy the sun as much as possible because it is healthy for you.</p>
<p>2. Be busy and inspired at all times.</p>
<p>It is very helpful that you get yourself busy and inspired so that you will not focus on your problems and worries. In this way, you can avoid depression.</p>
<p>Do the things also that you love and like. If you find this too expensive, enjoy the simple things instead. Simple things such as inviting your friends over your house and have a slumber party, stroll in the park, or bring your families to the beach during the weekend. You don’t need to pay a great amount of cash to be happy.</p>
<p>3. Have a break.</p>
<p>Even how busy we are, we really have to need a quick break like listening to a relaxing music, having a soothing bath or go to a spa. I know you deserve to treat yourself. If having fun means shopping and buying clothes, go on and enjoy.</p>
<p>4. Eat healthy foods and exercise regularly</p>
<p>Eating the right foods and staying fit may decrease the incidence of depression. Just avoid foods very high in sugar and caffeine because they are stimulants. They will give you temporary alertness and energy but after a few hours, they will give you anxiety and exhaustion.</p>
<p>Alcohol is also a depressant that is why it is a very wrong notion to drink if you have problems because it will just worsen the situation.</p>
<p>Having a regular exercise is a stress buster. It will allow your body to produce happy hormones such as endorphins.</p>
<p>5. Have a social life</p>
<p>Having a social life is very important. Make sure that once a week you have to meet your friends and hang out. Life must be in a balance. You cannot live if it purely work alone.</p>
