Would it help if you had a fish to throw around with your coworkers?

I like my job, most days. It’s not what I envisioned I would be doing for a career, but it pays well enough to cover my needs and some of my wants, it’s stable and it’s something I’m good at.

Still, there are days where I leave absolutely livid, vowing never to come back or “tonight’s the night I dust off my resume and find a new job”. But it’s never quite that easy, and deciding I’m going to “like it better” isn’t going to make anything any different.

I don’t like my job. There are days I hate it. It makes me cry. I’ve been trying to get a new job for three years. But this economy sucks, and so has everyone else in my actual field (note, my current job is not in my field. But I needed a job). It sucks out my soul. But apparently, all I need to do is DECIDE to like it. Oh! Well, that makes it all better then.

This is along the lines of the stupid management FISH! Philosophy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FISH!_philosophy) whereas you can make your own job not suck by doing fun things. It’s supposed to play on the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle because they have soooo much fun throwing fish around. Managers love it because it basically says – Your job sucks, so make the best of it. Oh, and we don’t give a shit. Here’s a toy fish now fuck off.”

Great post, Tom. I’d say we’re very similar..feels like something I could have wrote about myself. Being an introvert has its good and bad, but I think more good than bad because introverts are highly retrospective, therefore very good with being able to understand and relate with people on a more personal level.

I like the idea of writing something up about myself. It’ll be interesting to see what I come up with.

I ended up getting a PS3 over the weekend. Best Buy had a deal going on a bundle package, so I was able to get three games and an extra controller almost free.

I’m still figuring out how exactly to get it functioning as a proper media center for external media files — I’ve installed PS3MediaServer but need to get it a little user-friendlier.

Thanks for the recommendations! Both are very slick machines, but the Aspire Revo’s lack of an integrated optical drive kills it for me.
I’m looking to replace my existing blu-ray player, not just add another device to the stack.
I’ll have to do some further digging on that Zotac machine; some of the reviews said it had trouble handling HD video but others noted there have been patches since then.

We also have an Acer Aspire Revo. Ours runs Windows 7. We just use a regular blu-ray player.
